    Love love love mine! I’m middle aged with a ton of metal in my legs. I’ve been looking to move to some place that doesn’t snow because last year it was so hard on me. Could not find a snow removal company in CO for residential when I looked this year. I was bummed. I took the plunge in Sept, and bought this after watching several reviews to prepare. I couldn’t be happier. I’m the first one out, I even do a bit of my neighbors walk cuz I have battery power left and it’s so easy and quick. Instead of spending all afternoon (with several, breaks-resulting in a super sore body), I’m done in less than 0.5 hrs.

    Jeremy that was an excellent, comprehensive review. Thank you! You and your wife are a great couple! I just bought this snowblower a few days ago and I was very excited about it. I was disappointed in their assembly instructions - called for too much mind reading. I wish I had seen your little video on attaching the chute extension. That would have helped. This morning I had my first real chance. My driveway was easy-peasy, but that end of driveway stuff was a bear. AND - the county snowplow had done an extra good job of doing the street depositing.a MOUNTAIN of clumpy, compressed, icy snow on my sidewalk. I got through it but I was totally exhausted. I am almost 78 years old and I figured, well, I may drop dead of a heart attack, but at least my neighbors will find my body before it starts to rot! Also, when I watched you using the snowblower on your end of driveway stuff, you looked like you were having a hard time as well. I guess the tip of doing a little at a time, letting the snowblower bite into it is a good one. Also on really high parts, pivoting the snowblower up on its wheels to try. to get just the top part first may help. I see from your review I'm not missing something magical. Thanks again.

      Thank you for sharing your Toro Power Clear adventure! When it comes to that end of driveway pile my best tip is to start removing immediately after the snowplow piles it up there. As you discovered it doesn’t take very long for that “EOD” pile to start freezing. I was able to power through it in the video because it was night time so the snow didn’t have much of a chance to melt and freeze due to sunlight and also because I went right out there immediately after the snowplow had passed. By the time I finished my end of driveway mess and went to help my neighbour with theirs it had already started to freeze.

      Thanks my dude I hope you found it useful. Like all big tools there is always room for improvement but taken as it is the Toro Single Stage 60V Power Clear impressed the hell out of me. The only way that I work with sponsors is under the condition that I can present the pros AND cons about their product's shortcomings. And without blinking Toro told me to go ahead and be honest which speaks to how confident they were that I'd like this snowblower.

      Keep your gas snowblower for now. These eat batteries fast and they cost more than gas. The batteries just don't last long enough yet. Probably about 5 years until they will really be able to compete with gas.

    This is an excellent review. I purchased the Toro 60V last winter and I am thoroughly impressed with this little beast. Two tips: use a shovel to loosen and spread really high piles of snow and you will be able to clear anything without having to force it to bite off more than it can chew in one bite (it can handle about 12" at a time easily). If the chute freezes don't try and force it with the handle just grab the chute and twist it and you will find it will loosen up. This is the perfect little machine for most homeowners with a typical residential driveway. Highly recommended for a typical Canadian winter.

    Sorry I forgot to add in my other comment that my next door neighbor has an EGO snow blower that has gotten clogged with wet snow a few times when we were out about the same time, the Toro e21 has not clogged even once.
    BTW compared to the gas snow blowers this thing doesn't even get hot so it doesn't even have any melted snow on it. My garage is heated so I clean off the snow blower after use so I don't leave huge puddles of water , I use a round toilette brush I bought at the dollar store to just brush off the outside as well the toilette brush cleans out and snow left in the chute, takes one'll s minute or so to clean up

    The battery electric snow throwers are making me reconsider gas for commercial use but the charge times and price of the batteries are one of the issues I still have with getting one. Currently my lineup of equipment for snow removal consists of Garant snow pushers and a scoop (slay shovel), a Honda HS35 single stage, an older Toro 21 inch two stage repowered with a Honda GX160, Cub Cadet 3X 28" HD and an Echo PAS2620 with ProSno power shovel attachment and power broom.

    • @JeremyY
      @JeremyY  Рік тому

      I love my electric Toro but it is best for homeowners. For commercial operators it is very difficult to beat the “fill up and go” feature of gasoline snowblowers given how many houses you’ll be clearing snow at on a given day. Go with a gasoline Toro snowblower for your commercial needs.

    Good review, i bought one back in November. You are right on all accounts. When I first got it the direction chute was super stiff, so I sprayed some WD40 to help make it turn easier, it helped a little in that respect but the biggest advantage is that it doesn't freeze up or at least so far. If someone else has a better suggestion, let me know.
    I keep my battery inside coz Li battery can loose capacity when they get cold, i only bring it out just before I start blowing snow, once the snow blower is operating, the battery stays warm enough on it own even in minus 20 degree cold

    • @JeremyY
      @JeremyY  2 роки тому +1

      I did find the chute a bit stiff as well. I think it needs a slight break-in period. Because after going through that big storm plus another few snowfalls it seems to be loosening up a bit. I'll try that WD-40 idea.
      Good tip regarding bringing the battery indoors. Batteries are the most expensive part of tools nowadays so they are worth protecting.

      FYI, batteries love being stored in the cold, just not charged or discharged in the cold. If you bring in and charge/top-up the batteries the day before using, that'll be ideal. After using it, don't put it on charge right away, let it warm up and then charge it to like 80%. Before using it again top it up to 100%. Don't store it nearly completely charged or discharged. If you are going to not use the batteries for a long time, store it charged at 60%.
      This is all if you want to bother with all that of course, have it room temperature before using it and avoiding leaving it at 0 or 100% while stored are most helpful. Hope this helps!

      @@YouzTube99 the current and only guarantee on quality is the 3 year battery guarantee (pay for it on a credit card offering an Extended Warranty benefit on all purchases and up to +1 year additional year gets added). I personally do not see any reason why the FlexForce battery would stop working after 3 years especially if the battery is kept indoors during the coldest season and used (as in depleted through use and recharged) on a regular basis.
      It’s your choice between replacing the battery every so often or spending $$ on premium ethanol-free gasoline + seasonal oil changes + spark plugs.

  • @peacefrog0521

    I haven’t tried this, but I would try some WD-40, silicone spray or perhaps FluidFilm (baaaa 🐑) to help keep the chute from freezing and binding. WD-40 would make the most sense as it is intended to dispel water.
    Also (I have done this) spray any of these, or Pam cooking spray, into the inside of the chute, to keep snow from sticking to it and hopefully prevent clogging.

    Just went through heavy snow last week and ended up with a bad cold because I spent too much time outdoors shoveling the thick snow. Finally recovered from the cold yesterday and started looking for a new snowblower. I liked the EGO 56V single-stage snowblower, but I hesitated because it weighs 36kg. Went to another store and was impressed by how light the Toro 60V e21 snowblower is, so I bought one. I'll be using it later this week since snow is in the forecast. I'm just wondering if spraying the auger and chute with ceramic wax would reduce clogging.

      You’re so welcome and thank you for checking out my review. Toro offers a 3-year warranty on Flexforce Batteries + chargers. And if you put the purchase on a credit card that offers extended warranties that will get you up to one more additional year of coverage, so a 4-year warranty. As a general good ownership practice it’s a good idea to keep your lithium batteries in regular usage like in a lawnmower during the non-winter months. That will keep your batteries in good working shape for a long time.

    Hmm, I think I'll stick with my 120V 15A SnowJoe, at least until I get a gas powered 2 stage snow blower. I don't worry about exhaust fumes, smelling like gas and I actually like doing routine maintenance on my equipment. I also like the power that inherently comes with gas and steel as opposed to electric, plastic and rubber. I put skis on the Snowjoe because it's a single stage and I have a gravel driveway. No, I didn't buy it, it was a gift when I mentioned last year that at my age, shoveling snow with a grain scoop was getting really old. Having now had a taste of not shovelling though, I'm hooked and am ready to invest in a gas powered model.

    @Jeremy Ying thanks for the great review, and especially for the ideas on storing it when you have very limited storage space even in the garage. Yours is also the first video I’ve seen that shows it tipped and standing upright on the bucket. Just a few questions:
    1. There seems to be a sort of rattle that I’ve not heard in any of the other reviews. Was something loose on your sample?
    2. Your video is one of the few demonstrating snow height significantly higher than the 12” interior of the collection bucket. With this 16-17” snowstorm you mentioned clearing “most of my 50’ driveway plus walkways on a single charge.” Any idea approx how many square feet total you needed to clear? (I’m trying to get a better idea of the total snow volume you cleared in this demo.)
    3. Are you considering Toro’s rapid charger?
    4. Any thoughts about the plastic construction?
    5. How much does it weigh?

    • @WatsitTooyah
      @WatsitTooyah 2 роки тому +1

      I think that rattling is due to ice or compacted snow stuck in the auger. My 2 stage does the same thing. I can either shove the stick in there and try to break it up or just use it and it will eventually clear itself.

    • @JeremyY

      Thank you for watching the video and asking these questions:
      1. I heard same sound after I attacked that snowplow windrow at 04:03. So I had the local Toro dealer check it out yesterday as a precaution- my Toro electric snowblower was totally fine. That rattle you heard was likely caused by: a frozen chunk of snow stuck to the auger causing the one side to vibrate harder during operation OR a piece of mulch that they found jammed between the scraper blade and the body. In either case the snowblowers works fine and runs nice and quiet despite the dealer doing no service to it. They only suggested doing smaller passes when going at the windrows.
      2. I measured out my driveway: 8.5" feet wide x 83" feet long (longer than I guessed in the video)! So that's 705.50 ft².
      3. Are you considering Toro’s rapid charger?
      No, I do not see a need for it at this time. We seem to be getting by okay with the standard charger. I'll let you know if that changes.
      4. Any thoughts about the plastic construction?
      All metal construction would be nice but the trade off is that it would add quite a bit more weight to it. Plus I live in a salt province so it would also pose a rusting risk. The plastic build is so far decent and acceptable. I have hit a few sidewalk bumps and it hasn't cracked.
      5. How much does it weigh?
      Online retailers list it as: 55 pounds. Not "heavy" but you do need to lift with good technique because it's wide and therefore slightly awkward to carry. I am not a big person so carrying it should not be too big of a problem unless you have back issues.

      Hm that's interesting. Because I had an old 2 stage (8 HP) that struggled with frozen EOD. @ralphfraumeni6190 2 роки тому +1

      That's definitely true but I don't have room to store a 2 stage. Here on Long Island I use a 2 stroke Toro single stage and even with the driveway I'm finished well before the 2 stage machines in my neighborhood in 95% of the snow storms we get. I will say I am probably much sweatier after clearing the plowed street snow at the EOD than I would be with a 2 stage but I make up the time and sweat spent in those situations with the speed I get during a normal snowfall. Would love to have both!

      @@JeremyY Thanks Jeremy for the reply. I went to our authorized Toro dealer and he told me that his main complaint with the shovel is its single direction of throwing snow. Impossible to shift the snow to the side without fully turning the device in that direction. Personally, I found it quite heavy with the battery at the top of the handle. Design-wise, it would be better above the shovel so the majority of the weight is at the bottom. I was hoping my wife could use it when there wasn't much snow and would do it in transition of significant snowfalls. I think the shovel and its battery almost weigh the same as the single-stage snow thrower (44 lbs). I put some WD-40 Synthetic on the interior of the chute in preparation for the first snow. Also, the dealer told me that he's never had to use any mini-shovel to clear the chute as it doesn't clog. I will admit that Toro does make excellent single stage snow blowers and I have their older gas-powered 518 which is what I use as a backup machine. Your gas blower might have a way of making it easy to steer but it's only going to work if the wheels are not seized to the shaft. You'll also lose drive on one wheel. It's kind og crude but effective. Can be handy in the off-seasonua-cam.com/video/rn8aoa0VyCE/v-deo.htmlsi=kIp8eTYrbABx6vCo

It does allow for easier steering however the Ariens, like all 2 stage gasoline snowblowers, still has a lot of weight even if it’s self-propelled. Not so easy to maneuver into a small garage space once it is shut off. And using the trigger lock does have a learning curve which would scare off a lot of people who just want to push a snowblower and not worry about triggers.

      I heard same sound that you're talking and so did a few others in this comment section. So I had the local Toro dealer check it out yesterday as a precaution- my Toro electric snowblower was totally fine. That rattle you shuddering sound was likely caused by: a frozen chunk of snow stuck to the auger causing the one side to vibrate harder during operation OR a piece of mulch that they found jammed between the scraper blade and the body. In either case the snowblowers works fine and runs nice and quiet despite the dealer doing no service to it. They only suggested doing smaller passes when going at the windrows.

    Let me start by saying yes, I am a snow thrower/blower snob and this IS NOT a snow blower... technically. But you say Tom there's no difference, a thrower and blower are both the same. Whoa! Slow your roll my frosty friend there actually is a difference and the proof is literally in the wording "thrower" & "blower" So how can you differentiate between the two? That's a great question and thanks for asking. The quickest way is to see if the auger/blades are spinning very fast or much slower. If it's a thrower the blades will be spinning very rapidly, if it's a blower the blades will be spinning much slower. With the blade spinning so rapidly on the thrower the snow is literally thrown up and out of the shoot. With the blower the blades move much more slowly to pull the snow back to blower portion (an actual metal fan with fins of sort ) that's built into the machine and that fan "blows" the snow up and out. With all that being said I've always preferred a thrower as they are more versatile when it comes to wet slushy snow and typically will not clog as often as blowers have a tendency to do. Throwers are also not nearly as heavy as blowers and clean down to the bare pavement better. Now you have the added benefit of battery power. Much less noise and no gas/oil to worry about. Especially useful if you need to transport your thrower. No spilled fluids! I would love to own this 60v Toro but will be honest and say I was surprised at how expensive it was.

    The scraper blade issue with both the Toro's and the EGO's are the biggest problem, they're a joke. If you don't have a smooth driveway they catch every crack. It's a design flaw that could be resolved with skid shoes and/or a less aggressive scraper bar edge. Also the plastic is no where near durable enough, sure they claim 20 hours, which is a joke itself but you also may need to replace on the first day as some have had to do because they break when you catch a crack, and when you do catch a crack, it hurts the hands and wrists.
    I own the EGO, but I researched and TORO owners have the same complaints as EGO owners with respect to the scraper bars.

    • @JeremyY
      @JeremyY  Рік тому

      By far the most controversial item on Toro electric snowblowers is the scraper blade. But even gasoline snowblowers have shear pins, which break under similar circumstances. And I say this as someone whose driveway is bumpier than the moon's surface!
      A less aggressive scraper bar isn't a bad idea in theory- problem is if it was less aggressive it wouldn't clear snow down to the pavement. I have had gasoline snowblowers (two stage AND one stage) that don't have a scraper blade and as a result they leave a thin, compacted layer of hardened snow with each pass. Which then freezes overnight.
      The best thing to do is pick a snowblower solution that suits your lifestyle's preferred needs. For me personally it's the Toro 60V Power Clear.

      I just can't stop laughing.
      Guarantee you you're doing a workout when you're using your single stage snowblower. With the heavier snowblower that's a two-stage your heart rate is a lot less and it's doing the work for you!!
      I'm sorry but I think you just created a new type of dumb seriously!! No offense but that's the only way I can describe what you said. Your statement is 100% wrong, not scientifically correct in any way shape or form.

    4:24- this is why you still need a 2 stage snow blower. You shouldn't need to manually thrust the snowblower into plowed snow drifts.

      In a perfect world everyone would have a single stage like the 60V Power Clear AND a two stage sitting out back for the heavy stuff. But if I could only choose one I'd definitely go with a quality Single Stage and I say that as someone who has owned both. Most homeowners are more likely to deal with smaller to moderate snowfalls than they are the 16" dump that I got, which is super rare even for here in Ontario.

    • @mattb9664
      @mattb9664 2 роки тому +1

      I understand - I had a 120' driveway in the upper weather band of NJ (new england weather), and the town would leave it to the homeowners to clear the road snow upwards of 3' from the driveway as well. I'd cruise through the driveway and the bottom was always a chore with a 2-stage.
      Thankfully have moved a few towns over and have a very simple driveway and am able to clear it with just the Toro Power Shovel. I'll be helping out my neighbors with the 2 stage in some of these more severe storms with ice top-coats.

      The augers on gas single stage blowers touch the ground to help propel it forward. Battery blowers don't, presumably for battery conservation reasons. It makes the battery ones a lot more work to use in conditions like this.

      I have to help push my 30 year old 2 stage into what the plow leaves. I think I will get one of these as I have a 6 car driveway and we rarely get storms with more than 10 inches of snow.

      You could get a self-propelled snowblower, which most 2-stage snowblowers are. But then you'll have to learn the ins and outs of the self-propelled control mechanism and the weight of a large larger machine. It's a "Choose your battle" scenario.

      We’ll certainly see if longevity is an issue but I don’t think it will be. I’ve had other lithium-ion powered equipment from other brands go into a protective shut down mode (my EGO mower does that) when faced with a big load. But the Toro powers right through. I have faith in Toro haha

    The older ya get the more you need a self propelled with power to eat thru the end of driveways. We don’t want no heart attacks out there. My toro 828 in the lowest gear was the best investment i every made. Literally a life safer.

    • @JeremyY

      I hear you on that! But I also think it could be argued that a lighter, more maneuverable snowblower might suit older people, too. I use a two stage gasoline snowblower at our workshop and that thing handles like a Soviet tank.
