Susan was hurt when David didn't reciprocate her feelings. But it was for the best. Who knows what kind of suffering Susan would have had to endure with the alcohol/drug issues David had. Happily married to her hubby for over 30 years now, the early rejection turned out be a blessing for Susan.
I saw David in concert a little less than a year before he died and he was fantastic. He still had that charisma that he had as a teen idol. He was also an incredible musician. It may have been nice for David and Susan to have been a couple but it never would have lasted and the friendship would have been gone. I actually have more respect for David for wanting to be friends rather than to have him take advantage of Susan's feelings for him. To me that is a true gentleman.
That was nice of him. It really is funny how attraction works. I' m sure many guys would have given anything to have her affection, yet the guy she wants only sees her as a friend.
It's too bad he didn't feel the same way,but since he didn't there was no way it would've worked. She was a beautiful girl/woman that many of us always had a crush on her!❤
One of my all time favorite shows. You're Right the chemistry was amazing! I have all the seasons. I always feel better when I watch the show. Great, wholesome, funny, entertaining, simple but effective show. A time machine for me
David didnt wanna break Susans heartso he wanted to keep their friendship pure.I feel sad he turned to alcohol to ease his pain. The Partridge family was magic how all the characters fit! Im gratefull for Shirley Jones turning down being the Brady mom,cuz she was the key factor, any other actress would have blown it for the whole group. She had a rough marraige to deal with all the while keeping up our favorite mom role of all mom roles back in the day.
I have no idea what David was thinking. Susan was gorgeous. If it were simply a chemistry thing then that's one thing. But to insinuate that she wasn't pretty enough was absurd. He should have been so lucky. And he certainly shouldn't have said the quiet part out loud so to speak. At least he was regretful but regret doesn't buy a whole lot. Kudos to Susan for staying classy.
I think David thought that she was pretty...but, pretty like a sister. Totally agree that Susan has stayed classy throughout it all. Thank you for your support, James!
I don’t think she’s gorgeous. He simply saw her as a sister. In the friend zone. Of course she was hurt. That’s love. Shoukd he have lied about his feelings. No
"She lacked the slutty aspect of a female that I always found so attractive." David Cassidy regarding Susan Dey. Not sure where the brother sister thing fits in that comment and yeah he should have kept that to himself.
@@FunkyMonk4Life Thank you for saying the line we were all avoiding, but yes that's what he said /wrote, more than once, I believe. The last I heard, from a video here on UA-cam, Susan was living happily somewhere around Andes, NY and appearing on a local talk show to promote a music festival she helped organize. That's been about 6 years ago, though.
David Cassidy was caught up in a whirlwind of publicity and promotion. He couldn't find his own grounding, much less be able to offer himself to someone like Dey. David was blocked from doing more with his talent and was overcome by the teeny-bopper phenomenon. I think he paid for that the rest of his life. I saw him about a year before he died in a concert in Northern Virginia. He was delightful, and it was fun to see all those women of a "certain age" gathered there to see him--mostly accompanied by the men in their lives (as I was with my wife). We had a rollicking time with David that night. It was shortly after that when he got his last DUI and, soon after, he died.
I think she was in love with him, just watch the old shows and look at the photos you can see the way she looked at him. I always hoped they would have gotten together. I don't think she ever really got over him, and that's why she avoided the reunions.
Thank you for sharing the stuff about David Cassidy and the Partridge family the good and the bad all of it so thank you for sharing it if you have any more stuff in the future please do so
Dave, my first week at Warner Bros decades ago, I had my lunch break and wondered off to walk the homes/streets at the Warner Bros Ranch. One of the studios that was part of WB. As I walked through the streets I had this deja vu experience. I said, "this looks so familiar." I did see the "Friends" fountain, the Waltons dirt street/house.... I walked and eventually understood that I walked the street where "Bewitched and The Partridge Family" exteriors were still located after 30+ years( mid 1990's)! It was always so cool to have lunch outside The "Partridge Family" house sitting in my car, On the same spot the bus was parked and other cars.
So cool! Thanks so much for sharing, Jose! If you ever want to do a video with me about what is was like to work at Warner Brothers, just let me know. 🙂

@@jdsundstrom Sure! It would be a pleasure. I saw many of the famous through the years.on the main lot. Hundreds of TV shows came and went via the WB Television Network and syndication for the other domestic networks. Also for England, Germany, Australia etc....dm or email me.
Poor David~ I read his book too but now we know how affected by alcoholism he was. I'll always love him any way. His dad really screwed him up. ( I can relate😉)
she was absolutely stunning. i remember watching her in episodes when i was younger (im only 28 but i like older shows) and i kept thinking how gorgeous she was. she had that 90's supermodel face. im glad her life was a better one without him. it worked out for the best
My father and I met David Cassidy at a Tiki Bar one afternoon in Ft. Lauderdale back in the early 2000s, I knew the guy at the end of the bar looked very familiar so I asked the bar tender, she said that's David Cassidy, my goofy father said "who's David Cassady??" (he didn't watch much TV in the 70s). I asked the bar tender to give him another of whatever he was drinking. He came over and thanked me, I said thats the least I could do for someone I felt I grew up with in the 70s! He laughed, and my dad said I have no idea who you are.. Guess David is pretty insightful, as he asked my dad if he's ever been to Vegas and saw the EFX show, .my dad said yes, David said well that was me!! My dad then freaked out and bought him drinks the rest of the day! I get the feeling later in David's life that he probably didn't buy to many of his own drinks..
@@jdsundstrom I think Shirley did her best to tell the truth about Jack but in a way that was respectful to their sons, yet revealing enough that didnt make her sound like a bitter shrew to his defenders.
Very interesting video! I had a super crush on Susan when I was younger. Found out she and I were the same age! Never knew about her and David. Probably for the best that nothing came of it. Seems like she had a good life afterwards anyway. Thanks again for the video!
I didn't like his bio, and I wouldn't have bought it if there hadn't been an event where he was signing copies of it. He did reveal a lot more of what happened w/ Susan than he should have, and at least he realized that eventually.
David Cassidy quit in 1974 when he was on top, because he couldn't handle the pressure of being a international megastar. He spent the rest of his life trying to climb back up, , but was sadly unsuccessful.
I was listening to my favourite FM breakfast radio show in Sydney Australia "Jonesy and Amanda" Amanda like my self was a early teen in the early seventies, and paid a fitting emotional tribute to David after he passed away.
I was only 3 or 4 when the Partridge Family first aired so I didn't really watch them until the show was in re-runs. I think that the youngest Partridge Family member, little Tracy Partridge played by Suzanne Crough was around four years older than me in real life. Anyway as far back as I can remember I have always seen Susan Dey as the most beautiful actress in TV history. I can't think of anyone prettier or more attractive than her. I also remember watching L.A. Law back in the day just to see her. Luckily the show was amazing in it's own right, and I ended up watching the show because it was great not just to see Susan Dey. I understand that David Cassidy only saw her as a friend but it boggles the mind how he was able to look her in the eyes and not see the most beautiful woman in all of Hollywood. Her smile alone could melt my heart. Anyway enough about me gushing about Susan Dey, I am glad that she has had a very successful TV and movie career and is happily married to somebody who treats her right.
As a 9-13 year old watching the show, I wanted to be a lean, handsome, funny "teen" like Keith/David. I bought all the cassettes and loved the Partridge Family songs. I even got a lunchbox and the board game. Unfortunately, in '93, my friends and I chose to wait at the NYC stage door for David and Shaun's autographs, after a performanceof "Blood Brothers." I had brought the game box along, just in case. David made a big fuss over seeing such a unique item - then promptly signed black Sharpie over a black stripe on the game box... so his signature was hidden! I was so shocked (and hurt), that I couldn't listen to those songs for years. The game box came home and I never displayed it with my other nostalgia. I guess David broke my heart, too! I expected him to be Keith, the TV character. I've met many celebrities since that episode and most are polite and even remarkably accessible and kind. But sometimes it's better not meeting someone you idolized as a child.
I think it was a slippery slope for them especially working together. Every girl was in love with David at that time, including me. I don’t think he purposefully broke her heart, he just wasn’t into her that way. Can’t fault him for that.
I actually think David was doing the right thing by not leading her on. I do think, however, that he could have handled how he shared the details of their relationship in his book a bit better.
It was pretty much confirmed by cast and crew that they had a relationship behind the scenes. She doesn't speak out about it because she doesn't have to justify herself. The chemistry of the two of them is explosive. He looks at her a certain way and still did 20 years later. Doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to see the obvious.
I worked with Mel Burns Jr. when I worked on Batman and Robin and he did the makeup the entire run of the Partridge Family and told me the same thing David did. She would cry over his rejection. He Didn’t have any physical attraction to her.
David never lied to me.. He said she wS fine for other guys, but she didn’t turn him on sexually. Period. The crew knew that too. I’d rather keep all of my memories of our time together to myself now, thank you.
I loved the partridge family growing up I had no idea they were dating or they tried to date or whatever and David apperently just didn't feel the same way that Susan did. Imo Susan is such a beauty like her eyes and hair she's definitely underrated as far as 70s icons go. I also loved her alot and we had similar features cuz her hair is like mine long brown lol. Also I just subscribed I came from your three's company video how you and a friend of yours were discussing how three's company took a more serious turn with the episode Chrissy's date and I 100 percent totally agree and how coincidental I saw the episode litterally 20 minutes ago.
I was 10 years old in 1970 and fell over head over heels for David. I was going to marry him no doubt. After 1974. I lost track of David. In 2012, I bought a ticket to see my former crush in Vegas. David was high or drunk. Davy Jones had recently passed and David kept saying crazy things. He only sang a few songs. A few people walked out. It was heartbreaking to see him like that. When he died in 2017, I was heartbroken. As for Susan, she was beautiful and did a great job as Laurie. I wanted to be her so much. I agree that David should not have mentioned her. In the end he was alone but if he had a relationship, it wouldn't have lasted. He was so popular, relationships can't survive that. He will always be my first love. Glad Susan found success afterwards RIP David, hope u have found peace.
I guess it could be debated about what it be like for David if he and Susan took their friendship to the next level. On television, they were brother and sister, but they looked good together. In defense of David, I think he understood who he was and saw Susan as a good friend and he didn’t want to hurt her in any way. He was a teen idol and a lot goes with that title. In Susan’s defense, I think that she was very attracted to David because he wasn’t like other young men. To Susan, David was the “Total Package “ squared. Friend zoning, from my experience, isn’t the end of the world. It can be a blessing in disguise and a means of protection. Workplace romances do happen and sometimes it works. Other times, it doesn’t. I think David was very aware of that, as well.
I can understand (barely) Cassidy not wanting to get involved with a costar, but why did he have to drag Susan’s heart through the mud the way he did in that book? Was he hurting for money that badly? Sorry, but there’s no excuse for that.
Susan pursued him relentlessly despite David trying to avoid any romance between them. If you have to emotionally badger someone into being with you, it's not gonna work out. Who wants to sleep with someone they see as a sister figure? I don't see her as a victim. Sorry, not sorry.
Btw, there is an upload here on UA-cam of pictures of Cassidy and Dey together in their Partridge days set to the song “I Only Wanna Be With You” and they do make a cute couple.
@norton dumont I think I saw that one. There are several with that flirting meme. People older than me noticed it back then, but I wrote it off as being a production team-created gimmick. I had no idea it really reflected something real or that it would survive and be a subject of conversation now. You never know about the future. Edit : that last line sounded like something Ringo would say. 😂
I don't mind David not going for her but I think when he wrote the book he should have handled it differently, not just ignored it, but just been a little more kind.
David had many physical loving relationship.,He explained how he just didn’t feel it with her. Nobody made me laugh like he did. Both being huge baseball and hockey fans, when we were together, we never missed the “George Michael Sports Report” on Sunday nights. People have said hurtful things about me…but David pursued me and I cherish the relationship we had. The was a hotel in New York called the Regal Royal and when we stayed there he played the filthiest, funniest joke on pedestrians below the 12th floor. I will never forget laughing until my stomach hurt. Rest In Peace, dear Snickers.
In David's own words, he preferred women who looked and acted trashy. He loved Susan as a friend but was never attracted to her as a potential lover. She was genuine and the girl next door for him. Eventually Susan had her own problems with alcohol but she rehabbed and put herself in a better state of mind and physical health. She always had her head on straight. I'm sorry that David had so much trouble toward the end; he deserved better but not with Susan.
I had the biggest crush on Susan Dey, especially when she wore her micro mini skirts. Shame on Cassidy. He thought he was such hot stuff. Susan was & still is beautiful...inside & out.
Heartbreak is no picnic. And it's very rough depending on how much feelings were invested in their target of love, and only time (and another love interest) will make it fade and that's the most important element to come to pass when you're love sick .
Not taking sides Dave, but what's the old saying "The best revenge is a life well lived" Maybe I'm paraphrasing, but it seems like Susan went on to bigger&better things/success while David unfortunately had his substance abuse. So I say she dodged a bullet and seems to have stayed classy.
I sgree, they were probably only meant to be friends. It is a shame he wss not more tactful, and their friendship was destroyed due to his too candid narrative of his memior. I heard he was a "tell it like it is " person , but sometimes it pays to be discrete.
When I watch the The Partridge Family on Friday's nights on ABC TV I had a crush on Susan Day, but a very big crush on Shirley Jones . It always look like Susan Day like David Cassidy more than a brother on the show when I started to look at it on reruns by the way she just look at him on the show. Also when I was 9 years of age I did not know when the show was on the air I did not know that Shirley Jones step son was David Cassidy until I seen a show that used to come on ABC TV it was called This is your Life with Ralph Edwards . They came on the stage of the Partridge Family doing rehearsal as a surprise for Miss Shirley Jones. Boy oh boy did they surprise her and they had on their outfit singing I think I love you when Ralph Edwards came walking in on the sound stage. I did not know that Miss Jones had this long great career before the Partridge Family at that time. I miss that Show.
David was the one on the show with real talent. The only one that could play an instrument and sing (his step mom could sing too). He had throngs of wild young girls and women throwing themselves at him. He was on the cover of every teen magazine of the day. Susan was a high schooler. David preferred the loose kinky ones and thought Susan to be too wholesome for his tastes.
David Cassidy preferred kinky girls because he was kinky himself. Susan dey should consider herself lucky that she didn't get involved with him. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I actually enoyed this show better than the Fraidy....I'm sorry the Brady Bunch. The banter between Danny and the family manager, Rubien was gold and very funny. Any way, I really was very attracted to Susan at that time. I can't believe David called her plain. I think David was riding high and knew he could have a lot of attractive girls so it went to his head. I got to admit though his comedic timing was spot on. I didn't know if you knew this though, Dave, but Susan Dey, like Karen Carpenter, had an eating disorder while on the show. She to suffered from anorexie. Danny Bonaduce says he may have saved her life by a comment he made about how thin she was. I don't know if he actually did or not, people with eating disorders are very stubborn, but something sure snapped her out of it and she got help. I'm so glad that she did, because it was so sad what happen to one of the richest female voices ever, love it if you did a thing on The Carpenters some time. Anyway so glad you did this upload and thank you so much.
I remember reading an interview with her many years ago, in which she said that, when working on The Partridge Family, she was so concerned about staying slim that she was only eating carrots … and then her skin turned an orange color !
I loved the show through it's entire run, and the Wrecking Crew sound backing up David Cassidy and the 5th Dimension gave those 2 acts a soulful jazz-pop feel during the early '70s when much of pop music was slow folksy ballads. The third Partridge Family album, Sound Magazine, was the best, followed by Bulletin Board, their last. I welcome all fans to reply with their favorite albums and songs. 👇 I had no idea there was a romance playing out behind the scenes, though slightly older fans picked up on the on-camera flirting, which has become a meme of legend. I liked Susan, but wasn't quite crushing on her, so I would've loved it if they had gotten together! Oh heck yeah! Lastly, thumbs down as always to the genius executives who moved the show to Saturday night - our family night out - for the final season, sealing its cancellation. Leaving it on Friday night might have saved both The Partridge Family and Room 222, where my real first TV crush - Karen Valentine - hung out. But the idiots blew it !
They'd certainly looked like perfect couple as though they were made for each other. Sad to say the chemistry wasn't there and it's good that they didn't form a relationship. Perhaps it wouldn't have worked out. But Susan even though heartbroken managed to move on. If she didn't make appearances on reunion shows it was understandable. Emotionally that sort of thing was painful for her falling head over heels for David. Then being rejected by him because rejections are painful. According to the psychology channels here on Y-Tube. It states that a rejection will register in your mind as physical pain. But Susan was a bit successful because she appeared on some made for TV movies. As well as appearing on some TV Series. That didn't stop her from being successful.
David was young so was Susan but she was 3 years younger then David he was 20 and susan was 18 years old.it was a teen age crush with susan but as she aged she still had a crush on him and he never knew but was getting alot of attention from girls he never thought of susun that way.or even knew that he broke her heart.its sad how fame can turn you into thinking its great been a celebrity and it changes you.from having a nice personality to been a typical i can do and get whatever i want without thinking the damage you have done to girls or boys who believe their the one for that person of fame.but in the end those stars wake up and are not that teen star anymoere .No Offence.Rest in Peace David 🕊🦋🌹GodBless you 🙏AMEN 🙏🕊🕊
David was born in April 1950 and Susan in December 1952. The Partridge Family first aired in September 1970. David was 20 and Susan 3 months short of 18. When the show last aired in March 1974, David was nearly 24 and Susan was 22. Susan confessed her love for David after the wrap party for the series. So, not really a teenage crush. I believe David loved Susan, but was not willing to give up the huge number of girls he constantly "had", since a relationship with Susan would have required him to do so.
It simply was nonreciprocal. It happens to many people. David really thought of her as the sister he never had. It's a shame she never forgave him, at least that's my understanding of it. She wouldn't be bothered in joining the different reunions I've seen. Only leaves me to think she was bitter in the end. I'm sure I would be told I'm wrong but action speaks louder than words, I never watched her drama. I just don't watch dramas in general.

These two were crushed on Hard by the Youth of America. Every boy wanted to be David every girl wanted to be with David. Susan Dey was so pretty it hurt
Dave was getting his bread buttered so much so, he had to beat them off with a stick. Let that be a lesson, never have a relationship with a close co worker. Someone will get hurt then work will suck.
Well it worked out well for me. I met my wife at her work back in July 2008. We got married in March 2010. Now almost 12 years later and still going strong. So sometimes you can find love at places that most people would shun upon.
He was older an alcoholic, etc and people have split personalities ,violence comes not only physically but mentally, he will of been more experienced with being older, and they expect the same age experience, confidence from the younger partner, and even when the younger partner gains confidence, its a blow to older mans ego, relationship like these never or rarely work out,and physical and mental issues are involved with violence,, doesn't matter if your rich or poor famous beautiful etc
Feelings aside, I think it would've been a little weird if Susan Dey & David Cassidy, would've hooked up. They were very young then, and eventually would've broken up, and then things would've become rather awkward. But the time they saw each other again, it was way over; u know like me and my 2 exes ago!😀👍🏽 but like u, the real reason I watch the Patridge family, was Danny Bonaduce. We happen to b the same age tdy (61) tho he may b a smidge older....I still like him to this day. Dude was funny & wise beyond his yrs on the show. Dave Cassidy, had a very sad ending. Only semi-related, I stood next to Danny in one of those airport trains that take you from one terminal to another. It was Seattle if I remember correctly. Did I say anything to him? Nope. I wussed out.
Oh!!! My gosh!!! How lucky 💘 he was. I use to see the Partridge Family when I was a teenager in the 60s and I wished in those days I could have a girlfriend like Susan Dey. Believe me if I had had the opportunity to meet you and you had been my girlfriend I would had never broke your heart ❤️ , I'm sorry that happened, but in those days I was just a noneimportan piece of junk little young man.
Really…am I the only woman in the world who thinks Susan Dey is awful? The writers on TPF show gave her and Danny the most insulting lines to hurt the character of Keith. David should have refused to show up to the set until the writers and producers made the other actors give his character respect and gratitude. Keith was composing, practicing and performing while going to school full time, helping Shirley from keeping the family out of the gutter! David was so nice he agreed to play the role of the vain buffoon, being the sweet sensitive young man he was at 20, he went along with it. In later interviews he felt resentment and said even though he felt very grateful to get the role, he resented not getting the money and recognition he alone got for Screen Gems, who shamelessly took advantage of him. (Danny played an obnoxious twit, Susan played a skinny, harpy of a mean sister and Shirley just smiled in her supremely self-satisfied perfect way, letting them pick on him mercilessly. Also the two kids were useless. Ruben was the only one who supported Keith.) Not only did David play a fake composer, he was a real one, which should be noted that the show stole the songs he wrote while on TPF. He and Susan were work friends and she made an embarrassing mess of the friendship they had as colleagues by chasing him! What an awkward situation for David. I hated her on LA Law, such a stiff one note actress. And she hasn’t done much since. RIP David, talented composer, singer/performer, on stage in New York and London, most popular act in Las Vegas for years, good friend and great father to his son.
Susan Dey ACTED a part. I hope u understand this was a fictional show. There is no reason to hate Susan for simply saying her lines and doing what she was directed to do.; As for her crush on David,,, We still don't know Susand's side of the story because, as far as I know, she hasn't publically talked about it. David is at fault o for giving in to her pressure when he should have stood firm; .Im not letting t David off the hook because he has blame in all this too. Btw..I'm a fan of DC.
@@lilacicecream Susan Dey was an awful actress on TPF and on LA Law. IMO. I’m still free to be entitled to my opinion. On TPF they made David, as Keith, play the buffoon, even though Keith had ALL the skills to keep them out of the gutter. David was smart to recognize the writers doing this and was very gracious to play the foil, as was Larry Linville on MASH. I don’t care to know either Susan’s side of their private life, nor do I care to hear David’s side. I just want David and only David, not The Partridge Family, to recognized by his peers and inducted in the R&R Hall of Fame. @@brightangel133 This hatred of SD is ridiculous. What did SHE DO TO YOU? I ACTUALLY liked DC myself; I remember watching the PF on TV in real-time when it debuted. I had the lunch box. I had the records. I remember the magazine cover of Rolling Stones. I was there when all this went down; to this day, I enjoy watching David act and sing. But I like Susan also and think she is beautiful and a decent actress. She played Lurie well, even though I didn't really like the character. As for the weird thing that went on between them, even if David didn't like her romantically, it was wrong to cross over the line for one night. He could have stayed strong and said no. He also did not have to spill the beans in the book. Has Susan done that? No, we don't know her side of the story, do we? But let's hate on her because we LOVE David so much; I'm not unfair and biased like that. I don't idolize anyone. David Cassidy let stardom get to his head Susan and David would have been hot couple sad at the end of the Partridge Family his career start to die sad
Young love (or dare I say it ("Puppy Love") can be and often is all at once awesome, wonderful and awful, terrible. However, David Cassidy was the one that made the mistake in the end. He probably naively thought that his star would last longer than it did; so he would have more time to find that "Right One" while possibly "playing the field" in the process of the intervening time. Case in point of this suggestion is that bizarre quote referenced in the video about David Cassidy's perspective about Susan's physical attributes. Cassidy's comment makes no sense; especially given the time period, Susan was the personification of 1970s class, sophistication, and beauty. Sadly, the "Right One" was probably right there standing beside him for all those many years. 🙁😲 And the truth is that Susan Day's career had more longevity and complexity in it then David Cassidy's ever did. And yes it looked as if Ms. Day definitely wanted to be anywhere else except up on that stage with Mr. Cassidy in 1990.😔 Furthermore in closing nice use of that clip of Danny Bonaduce introducing the characters and their backstories. Solid entertaining presentation; it kept my viewership engaged through its entirety.🙂👍
If he didn't love her in that way, regardless of what happened in his life or her life or their respective careers afterwards, then it wasn't a mistake. You shouldn't date or marry someone you don't love. It's not fair to them or yourself. And considering where David's life went afterwards, it's probably good it didn't happen.
Like so many, I too had a crush on Susan when I was a pre-teen. She has such pretty eyes. I remember her in that sci-fi movie "Looker", which had a great them song. ua-cam.com/video/RvX1FvO6oJ0/v-deo.html
Susan was hurt when David didn't reciprocate her feelings. But it was for the best. Who knows what kind of suffering Susan would have had to endure with the alcohol/drug issues David had. Happily married to her hubby for over 30 years now, the early rejection turned out be a blessing for Susan.
Susan dey dodged a bullet with David Cassidy. She did okay without him.
I just watched THIS IS YOUR LIFE, boy I felt uncomfortable watching them flirt in front of his wife!

Yep. She's a beauty!
Only her nose is strange...
I love the additional perspective! Thanks so much for sharing, Mac.
That was nice of him. It really is funny how attraction works. I' m sure many guys would have given anything to have her affection, yet the guy she wants only sees her as a friend.
It's too bad he didn't feel the same way,but since he didn't there was no way it would've worked. She was a beautiful girl/woman that many of us always had a crush on her!❤
@@Mike583 You are right Robert. No way it would have worked. But it's great that she did not lack admiration from others. ☺

The only reason I watched The Partridge Family was to see Susan Dey. I loved her in L.A. Law!
One of my all time favorite shows. You're Right the chemistry was amazing! I have all the seasons. I always feel better when I watch the show. Great, wholesome, funny, entertaining, simple but effective show. A time machine for me
You always do a wonderful and thoughtful job with these memories.

If he didn’t love her, it was good that he told her the truth. That doesn’t make him a bad guy.
Susan dey was hurt because David Cassidy didn't feel the same way she felt about him.
Just watched " A Chance To Live " a 90 minute pilot from the late 70's starring David as an undercover officer at a high school. It was good.
That was the pilot for the one season wonder David Cassidy - Man Undercover.
I remember him as the villainous Mirror Master on the 80's TV series, "The Flash".

David was a jerk for writing that in his book. You just don't go there with a friend like that. It back fired...and I bet he wished he never said it.
David was in love with Meredith Baxter during the period of the show.
@@cheriberryman1278 Meredith Baxter broke his heart by marrying actor David birney.
I think she was in love with him, just watch the old shows and look at the photos you can see the way she looked at him. I always hoped they would have gotten together. I don't think she ever really got over him, and that's why she avoided the reunions.
I,am real proud of Susan dey

I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Veronica!

Poor David~ I read his book too but now we know how affected by alcoholism he was. I'll always love him any way. His dad really screwed him up. ( I can relate😉)
David's dad, Jack Cassidy was jealous of his popularity.

What an awesome experience! Thank you for sharing, GC.

Very interesting video! I had a super crush on Susan when I was younger. Found out she and I were the same age! Never knew about her and David. Probably for the best that nothing came of it. Seems like she had a good life afterwards anyway. Thanks again for the video!
Great video you're the best doing a DAVID CASSIDY comic book review on here probably Tuesday
Can't wait, Danny!
I hadn't realized that he quit in 1974. I thought he just took some time off.
Thanks for sharing pudaoking!
I saw his brother in Concert at the New haven Coliseum in CT, but i loved David also still do
Thanks for sharing!
@@jdsundstrom I agree with you about the book.
He was right about being honest, but should have been discrete in the book.
@@The5Leeses her memoir may contradict that. Watch this space.....
David never lied to me.. He said she wS fine for other guys, but she didn’t turn him on sexually. Period. The crew knew that too. I’d rather keep all of my memories of our time together to myself now, thank you.

Susan Dey was just too innocent for David at the time. Pure and simple. He was cute! That feathered hair!
That's exactly what David thought!
@Dave Sundstrom I didn’t know that but it just seemed obvious to me. Wasn’t he her first though? I believe he was.
I don't know the answer to that question, Cindee.
That’s what I had heard @Dave. Thanks!
In his book, he mentioned her bring involved with an older crewmember, when they were only friends.

Thanks for sharing your memories!
Excellent report, as usual. I loved Susan back in the dey! (misspell was intentional),
Glad you enjoyed it, Mike. Your comment made my dey! 🙂
David had a really good run as a silo artist after The Partridge Show.
Great comments (as usual). Thanks Gary!
I can understand (barely) Cassidy not wanting to get involved with a costar, but why did he have to drag Susan’s heart through the mud the way he did in that book? Was he hurting for money that badly? Sorry, but there’s no excuse for that.
David Cassidy was insensitive to Susan dey's feelings.
I fully agree 💯
Susan pursued him relentlessly despite David trying to avoid any romance between them. If you have to emotionally badger someone into being with you, it's not gonna work out. Who wants to sleep with someone they see as a sister figure? I don't see her as a victim. Sorry, not sorry.
Btw, there is an upload here on UA-cam of pictures of Cassidy and Dey together in their Partridge days set to the song “I Only Wanna Be With You” and they do make a cute couple.
Thanks for sharing, Norton!
Have you ever done a video on Mayberry RFD?..Getting the same nostalgic feeling when watching Family Affair..
I definitely need to do a video exclusively about Mayberry RFD. While not as good as "The Andy Griffith Show", it was still great TV.
"The Partridge Family" was a certifiable classic-Too bad David & Susan never ended up as a couple.
Even though he broke her heart, it seems to me that Susan was much better off because of it.
David Cassidy and Susan dey had a one night stand that was a total disaster.
Yep, David blew it. You don't let a beauty like that get away!
David Cassidy didn't deserve Susan dey because he was a jerk and would have broken her heart. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
What does looks have to do with anything ?! Good Lord, grow up !!!
I don't mind David not going for her but I think when he wrote the book he should have handled it differently, not just ignored it, but just been a little more kind.
Agreed, Todd. Maybe he could have shared what was going to be in the book ahead of time with her.
David Cassidy said that Susan dey wasn't slutty enough for him.
The only reason David Cassidy wrote about his relationship with Susan dey because he thought it would sell more books.
I think he added that to sell the book. He never should have aired their business... That was private and should have stayed there...
He should be in the rock and roll hall of fame now
Who hasn't had a broken heart ????
David had many physical loving relationship.,He explained how he just didn’t feel it with her. Nobody made me laugh like he did. Both being huge baseball and hockey fans, when we were together, we never missed the “George Michael Sports Report” on Sunday nights.
People have said hurtful things about me…but David pursued me and I cherish the relationship we had. The was a hotel in New York called the Regal Royal and when we stayed there he played the filthiest, funniest joke on pedestrians below the 12th floor. I will never forget laughing until my stomach hurt. Rest In Peace, dear Snickers.
Sorry meant Rhegal Royal and it’s no longer there
Those sound like pretty fabulous memories , I’m glad you were there to give the man laughter and acceptance
Thanks for sharing, Daisy!
Susan dey deserved better, too.
I had the biggest crush on Susan Dey, especially when she wore her micro mini skirts. Shame on Cassidy. He thought he was such hot stuff. Susan was & still is beautiful...inside & out.
She's a classy lady. No doubt about it.
Heartbreak is no picnic. And it's very rough depending on how much feelings were invested in their target of love, and only time (and another love interest) will make it fade and that's the most important element to come to pass when you're love sick .
For real! Heartbreak sucks. Time really is the best healer, and that certainly proved true with Susan.

Now I'm wondering how long I've been watching your channel.... Time isn't as easy for me to keep up with these days... Lol 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😅✌🏻☮️
I don't know about you....but, for me, time really flies.
She was cute on Partridge Family, but stunning on L. A. Law!
can't imagine how many girls he must of had after him to turn down a girl like Susan Dey...
Unfortunately I was born on the wrong end of the 70's to really appreciate this show :(
But...you had other great shows to appreciate! 🙂
Thanks for the comment, Bob!
David was a narcissistic punk
Did he call her plain? I think what he said was that she was too wholesome. It truly just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I remember reading an interview with her many years ago, in which she said that, when working on The Partridge Family, she was so concerned about staying slim that she was only eating carrots … and then her skin turned an orange color !
you should break out of the lines and do a show on the Bubble Gum Music of the early 70s!!!!!
That would be fun! Thanks for the suggestion. 🙂
Great idea!!
I had no idea there was a romance playing out behind the scenes, though slightly older fans picked up on the on-camera flirting, which has become a meme of legend.
Great stuff, Gera! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Well said, Joe!
When the show last aired in March 1974,
David was nearly 24 and Susan was 22.

Dave was getting his bread buttered so much so, he had to beat them off with a stick. Let that be a lesson, never have a relationship with a close co worker. Someone will get hurt then work will suck.
True fact!
Well it worked out well for me. I met my wife at her work back in July 2008. We got married in March 2010. Now almost 12 years later and still going strong. So sometimes you can find love at places that most people would shun upon.
Susan deserved better anyway in my o pinion, Dave!
And...I believe she got better. 🙂
😀
Dave Susan also went through problems with alcohol.
Susan was beautiful. David was crazy.
Without a doubt, she was (and is) a beauty. 🙂
It wouldn't have
What does either of their careers have to do with love. Dont mix the two. Love and rejection hurt. That’s life.
He wrote badly about her in his book. He should not have done that. How could he think that would be ok? He didn't care.
Now THAT broke My heart 💔. I liked him. Then the youngest of the Partridges, died. RIP David Cassidy & Susan Crough🕯🙏🏾🌻🕊
PS: I was taught, never poop where u eat😏😉😃
Only semi-related, I stood next to Danny in one of those airport trains that take you from one terminal to another. It was Seattle if I remember correctly. Did I say anything to him? Nope. I wussed out.
@@jdsundstrom ah, it's okay. I probably would've done the same thing. 😉
I'm 16,and sorry what did you say between 2:00 to 2:25 ?
If you are having a hard time making out what I'm saying, I'd suggest turning on the captions. Good luck!
Oh!!!
Yes he blew it but he is gone rip honey you are free sing.
Geez Dave I started this video thinking David Cassidy was still alive and earlier today I found out Ned Beatty died in June.....2 in one day.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, RB!
I have no idea why you’re so accusatory and condescending to me so I’d greatly appreciate this to be our last communication. Signed, the one with the PhD in Art History and Film
Btw.. if you can't handle any kind of pushback from your comments, then u may not be right to be in the comment section. Don't tell me what to do, please. Grow a thick skin, and permit others to have their opinion also. You are coming off as pushy and rude and someone who dislikes anyone disagreeing with them. I did not do u any wrong. except give u a brief response which is justified because u are in the comment section., But have a good night anyhow
Love sometimes is a many splendid thing but rarely easy. Perhaps with all of David’s baggage Susan was better off in the long run. 🤷🏻♀️
I would give anything to get with Keith Partridge!
Even now?? He might not look so good.
I was a fan of "The Partridge Family" but it was to see Shirley Jones not Susan Dey.
I totally get that as well, zoperxplex. Thanks for the comment...and for the support!
I hade such a crush on him
😎awesome
Thanks Mike!
@@jdsundstrom you should do a Irwin Allen tv show next 😊
I've got those shows on my radar. 🙂
I all ways thought they would have been together.
They could have been a power couple. She could have been the rudder he needed...
I would’ve loved to have been with her😮
Where's my Steve Rhoades vs. Jefferson D'Arcy poll?
Great suggestion. 🙂
@@jdsundstrom Thanks. To be honest, I don't know which way I'm gonna vote. I'm gonna have to think about it.
That's a tough one. I'd probably vote for Steve...but I've got a soft spot in my heart for anything that McGinley does. 🙂
Kelly any day!
@@jdsundstrom I think I'm leaning Jefferson. That time when the Bundy's got stranded in New Mexico and the locals charged 5 cents for a bottle of Coke but 5 dollars to use their bottle opener and Jefferson came prepared with his own bottle opener might put him over the top for me.
More on DC.
I know this is a little off topic but did you know Johnny Cash introduced the Partridge Family on the first episode.
I did not know that!
@@jdsundstrom yeah just saw the pilot episode for the first time.
Did you that Farrah fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd from Charlie's Angels appeared on the Partridge family?
You can't make yourself love someone who loves you in the romantic way!!!
Oh god, David Cassidy was soooooo Gorgeous. Oh god.
💋💋💋💋💋🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The most Gorgeous man ever.
David Cassidy let stardom get to his head Susan and David would have been hot couple sad at the end of the Partridge Family his career start to die sad
She was like millions of female
fans, unfortunately she got to see him everyday.
Susan loved him.
She was a "Cutie".....But David did okay for himself marrying 3 times included Kaye Lenz.
Kaye Lenz! Yep...not bad at all. 🙂
And the truth is that Susan Day's career had more longevity and complexity in it then David Cassidy's ever did. And yes it looked as if Ms. Day definitely wanted to be anywhere else except up on that stage with Mr. Cassidy in 1990.😔
Furthermore in closing nice use of that clip of Danny Bonaduce introducing the characters and their backstories.
Solid entertaining presentation; it kept my viewership engaged through its entirety.🙂👍
Great comments, John. As always, thank you for your support. 🙂
@@jdsundstrom the best tv show to me is the donna reed show 📼
If he didn't love her in that way, regardless of what happened in his life or her life or their respective careers afterwards, then it wasn't a mistake.
I loved "Looker" as well. Good stuff!

The real fox in that show was the mother.
