2 cups flour
2 cups currants/ raisins chopped smaller.
10 tbsp. butter or 1 stick and 2 tbsp.
2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence / vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
cold water to knead

I made these today, and oh my gosh were they ever delicious!! They came out nice & flaky just like yours, and like yours...the sound of the crunch was great. I was very pleased that they turned out this nice on my first try. An added bonus was that I used Splenda and you can't even taste the difference. You're an awesome instructor, thx again!!
Hi Natasha I made currence roll today since I am home and being Locke down because of the Coronavirus. I am so afraid to buy anything out side to eat. So I decided to make it today. Natasha i wanted to try to make currants roll for a while now but the recipes i saw was too overwhelming. When i saw your simplified version i got the motivation i needed indeed. So i tried this recipe and i was so proud of myself. Just to mention i use a stick of blue-bland margarine however, i found a lot of grease in the baking tray when the roll was completed can i cut back on the butter and put like 3/4 stick of butter. The Flakiness was sensational but i think i let it to bake to long at the bottom was crispy brown maybe next time i will monitor it better rather than presuming 45 mins. Thanks a million for your wonderful recipe.

So I tried this I followed all the directions but the butter started melting out of the dough. Even though I put it back in the freezer

I use store bought puff pastry when i want some quick currants roll.....not as good as from scratch of course, but still really good.
Hi Natasha can you use Tenderflake lard (crisco)
in currents roll instead of butter as this is very flaky.

hi Natasha Julie alexis here from Trinidad cunupia , I'm not a fan of currants rolls so I never tried making it but my dad love it ,but he is a brown sugar person could I use that instead and would it come out the same.
Julie Alexis sure you can use brown sugar it would be sweeter tho.

used exact measurements & the butter was always too much and made the dough greasy & etc. so i am going to try with less butter

HI I tried the recipe it did came out very flaky but the dough was very rubbery I was wondering did you forget to add the butter into the dough in this video? because I was looking at the rough top video and you did add the butter in the dough as well as the folding in method can you clear this up for me I am still wondering what went wrong with mine.
Colleen Garcia no o didn't forget this was a different method, I didn't have that problem with the dough. next time try putting about 3 tbsp in the flour before kneading and see if that helps.

No butter is needed

I'm wondering if Splenda could be used instead of sugar?
Yes but keep in mind splenda is very sweet in taste so you'll need to use less as opposed to the sugar. You can even leave out the sugar if the currants or raisens are the very sweet kind.

There is no written recipe. This video with the ingredients listed in the description box is all I have.
I tried both of them and it still happens your recipe comes out perfect except getting stiff when cool

You’re over kneading the dough. It happens when making roti also.

Why didn't you mix the butter in the flour one time? Would be much simpler.
🙄. It’s due to the technique with getting the layers and to be flaky.
@@nalinir5092 I made it already and I simply put the dough in the fridge,then roll out. It was flaky as ever.

I just tried this recipe and was very disappointed! The filling was great but the dough was hard!!! Something is missing from the flour mixture. I think it need some butter before kneading it! I follow the reciepe to a tea and I wasted all my ingredients!!! I will continue to make it with puff pastry!!
I am really sorry to hear that I'm heart broken. I didn't have this issue. Did you check out the older version to this recipe?
@@TriniCookingwithNatasha yes i did...but decided to go with this version since I had lots of baking to do... that's ok I quickly went n got puff pastry n currants...ao we had currants roll!
