You could probably move the fans from the outside of the chassis to the inside and somewhat fix that airflow starvation problem, but those crappy sparse circular perforations are useless anyway. Why didn't they just punch out honeycomb? It's not like they're total case n00bs. They should know way better than this.
Me too. I've dabbled with ITX builds for a long time at first. The small cases I've started out with were too cramped to build anything powerful in, and the cases in the "post-Prodigy" era have grown really fat, in which case ITX as a form factor was kind of pointless. I'm in the same boat as you, I only use a single GPU and don't need the extra space. On top of that I like the option to have a nice looking case standing on my desk, what's the point of having RGB and tempered glass side panels if you hide the case under your desk? For me, mATX is the ideal size, it can house all the hardware a gamer might need, but it's still relatively compact and not too overpowering on the desk.
"The small cases I've started out with were too cramped to build anything powerful in" then you're building in the wrong cases using the wrong hardware.
mridc dont know what you mean. i have an atx build in a mid tower (fractal r5) on my desk without a problem. and its not a big desk to say at least. i even have enough room for a normal mousepad (1000mm x 500mm. yes thats normal imo. i literally use like 70cm width of it for mouse). the desk measures 75cm x 155cm
So the Q300L is cheaper, has better airflow, has nice magnetic filter, is smaller (which is important in mATX builds), doesn't have plastic parts falling of and looks a lot better in my opinion. Also Cpu cooler is a MasterAir G100M
no i got the case and it has good airflow the problem is that cooler master put the front fans in pushing the air out mode so he gets negative air going in his system and he didn't figure it out that why he said it worst than the cheaper version I got the case and I flipped the two front fans once i get the case, everything good I'm not saying his bad but cooler master shouldn't put them pushing air toward filter but its whatever its not a big deal tho

79th first... With the 300p why not mount the fans on the inside of the case instead of the front of the case? How much of a difference is there in airflow and aesthetics?
with slimmer fans they would be able to pull in air from the bottom gap. A lot of cases don't have a mesh in front of the fans. The Fractal Design Define cases has always had grilles on the side for pulling in air when you close the front door. This isn't an issue usually except here Cooler Master used too thick fans so there isn't enough gap between the front acrylic and the fans. And I don't like mATX because I rather go with mini-ITX instead otherwise I just go with ATX. Only certain pre-builts from HP, Dell have decent sized mATX cases and OEM boards to go with it.
I own a q300l, love it. I highly suggest you move the q300p's front rgb fans to the inside of the front panel, this is how you have to mount fans on the q300l. You won't see the rgb as well, but it should increase airflow significantly. If you're gonna get rgb fans and buy a case, the q300p is better, The q300l is better if you're gonna get cheaper fans or already have some to add to it.
Thanks for an honest review. Looking thru the many comments, I saw 0 comments about the benefits of using small modular and/or SFX power supplies, which make building & cable routing much easier and neater. SFX cables will usually reach in an MATX case but a mounting adapter is needed.

IMO Matx systems make sense if you are like me and only use a video card and a sound card for the PCI slots. Why have a bigger board if you aren't going to fill slots? I would rather that they eliminate one of the M.2 slots and use the space for more things like fan headers, etc.
What? Give up storage expansion for fan headers? How is that a good idea? Especially when add-on fan hubs and controllers exist. You can't add more storage interface without adding a PCI card, which costs more than a fan controller/hub and takes up another slot.
If you are running a server I can see the point but most folks don't even use all the sata ports on the mobo these days and the M.2 ports are really getting popular now(ordered a 960 Evo last week myself).
Yeah I agree. I have had my atx build for about 2.5 yrs now and have only used one pcie slot for the graphics card. Wanted to go atx because of upgradability, but have never needed the extra expansion.
You can move the front fans to the case interior which will lower temps as it will actually draw some air from the acrylic faceplate. As when the fans plate mounted outside, the fans actually cutoff the airflow.

You can reduce the amount of static that builds up on the acrylic panels. For commercial use there are products like Staticide, but for a quick and dirty solution you can just rub a dryer sheet on it.

Also if this company want something new and innovative they can make some design competition ...have fun and keep be a PC LOVER

i'd love to use mATX, it seems like the perfect size. more compact than ATX with its abundance of PCIe slots that probably most people never get to use, but bigger than the challengingly tiny mITX. unfortunately, most boards are low end to midrange with very little choice for higher end stuff. there's an extremely expensive X399 board from AsRock and a good Z370 offer from EVGA, but those aside? nothing fancy out there, even though mATX should be physically big enough to fit everything you might need or want
So, I understand the front panel design is still not optimal, but Im 99% sure the intended fan location is INSIDE the case at the front, not between the case and the front panel. This gives much more clearance for air flow, even though it still is being choked by the 1 inlet at the bottom.
I think the removable rubber handles on the Q300P are so that you can make the case as small as a Q300L if need be It makes sense, people have mATX systems for either portability (in which you'd leave the handles on) or size (in which you wouldn't) this also explains the rubber feet on the side of the case of the case as well (to stop it from slipping in transit)
I have the Q300L, with 240mm AIO installed, kinda funky, I have also emailed Cooler Master and they should be putting up attachments and addons here soon on their store. Whole reason I got the Q300L was so I could sit it on the shelf under my xbox and share the same space with it.
Matx is very interesting. You can put double SLI in it. Most people buy ATX and only use one pcie slot... This makes me cringe. If only motherboard manufacturers would take time to developpe high end matx one... But if they do so I assume many enthousiasts would leave ATX market. The best matx case is the Fractal Design Define Mini C !
XAQ MoonChild Sure, but when you look at AMD chipset, X370 or X470 there are no high end matx. Intel gots more attention from manufacturers, even if every ryzen are unlocked and would deeply benefit good overclocking boards
Last I read mATX is dying. Seemed like a great thing to me also. I built ITX this time; hope I have no need to slot something else in. Seems you can get most anything external now so that should ease my worries some.
jake legg Yeah, it may be the case, we will see that this year with X470, B450 and Intel's new line up. I want to build a high end Ryzen 2xxx build, if there is no X470 matx I may switch to ITX but as you said, I'm a bit stressed about being limited on extension slots...
I've been using the q300l for a month now, and not only does it look better than the more expensive version, it also performs better. I just wished they added a PSU shroud!
I just built my roommate a new rig in a Q300L today and it's SUPER easy to build in.. Tons of cable manage room behind the mobo tray. I picked it based on price first and looks second. The hex graphic on the magnetic dust filters was a cool touch to add a little implied value to the inexpensive case. I would never build myself a non-TG case but he doesn't care so this case was perfect for the situation. I would like to see a more premium version of this case with a PSU shroud, TG amd rubber grommets.
Bit old reply, but you would lose the option if moving the IO panel to the bottom of the case if it had PSU shroud, right? As in there wouldn't be room for it
'this board is 100 dollars but usually matx hardware is more expensive.' please do some research before you do these, i like your videos but the amount of misinformation in them is getting insane.
Honestly all I'd want from the Q300L is inverting the motherboard layout, making both side panels solid, adding maybe an option to have a couple of drives next to the PSU & then it'll be the perfect case IMO
Still happy with my Silverstone FT-03 - perfect mATX and nothing on the market as an alternative for me. Would like to see manufacturers go that way again. Great honest vid as always,
Don't blame the hardware because YOU didn't do your homework. Obviously you have to research physical compatibility more when dealing with more compact builds.
Hey Dmitry ,why don't you just mount the fans on the inside of the Q300P's perforated front like the fans on the Q300L ? That way you create a bit more room for air to flow . I know the illuminated fans would't look as pretty but who cares ... The choice between a throttling hotbox or a decent/average system can't be that hard , especially because it also lacks a rear exhaust
I got the Q300L a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely loved building in this case. It's compact enough to provide a bit of a challenge but overall I felt totally satisfied building in it, transferring parts from an InWin 805 (some new parts required, of course). I just want to add my own thoughts to yours as I feel a case like this could go under the radar. PROs The case is beautifully small and airflow is excellent, I replaced the stock fan with some corsair ones and put in a front mounted Kraken 240 AIO. Loved the mesh design, instructions were easy and there is PLENTY of cable room in the back. CONs The small price difference between mATX and ATX parts and the features provided did leave me scratching my head thinking why am I paying slightly under for what seems a lot less. Some ITX motherboards have more features than top of the range mATX boards, come on. Also, if you want to have an AIO in the front like I did make sure you have a hell of a lot of patience because it's bloody tricky. It feels like you need three hands to hold everything in place. I ended up mounting the radiator to the case and having all my fans inside as exhaust because there was not room for me to fit a top mounted fan due to the pipes from the AIO and the 8 pin power cables occuplying the area. The front AIO panel is a bit tricky to place as well, make sure the cables reach the slots on your motherboard - I ended up buying a usb extender because the cable was too short (they are long, but just a heads up). A few issues, but I love the end result. IMO it's definitely one of the best mATX cases out there and I hope more companies go down this route for people like me who want a compact build but don't want all the features or the size of ATX.
Agreed, he chooses that ridiculously wide cooler and then complains about the cpu fan clearance, then says that because he doesn't like the case that he's going to avoid mATX? What?
Yop, most people don’t need full atx, only 3-4% use sli, some use capture cards or other stuff, but hardly anyone utilizes all pci slots on a atx, matx still has plenty...
I have the Q300L and it's great! So small and portable. It fits an EVGA hybrid 980, as well as a Corsair H105 surprisingly. None of my fans are mounted outside.
I bought the 300L at launch date because I couldn't fit my radiator and graphics card in my InWin301. I must say I was happy with it considering the price ! The big downside as you told is the removable PCIe covers.. so 2005 there.. Other than that, great airflow, I actually love how it looks with those mesh. Cheap case with rights priorities. It is not that hard to build in it, there is a nice gap in the back of the motherboard. Pretty happy with it so far! But, honestly, can we talk about the PSU bracket ? Never saw a case in my entire life with a gap betwen the PSU and the case itself, felt really weird to install and had to took some time to figure it out. Otherwise, your review sums up my thoughts about these, great video !
I wish more companies made ultra compact matx cases. Jonsbo makes some, but they don't have any distributors in North America, so you end up paying a TON for shipping
I actually bought Q300L about a week ago and i have to say, that this case is *amazing*. I love the HDD mounting system and cable managment is pretty good also, included fajn is pretty quiet and dust filters, oh god how much i love them. Love that case, it does look cool, functionalities are cool, overally its cool, and really good bang for the buck ;)
Personally I built an mATX out of a Corsair Carbide Air 240, and I lay it on the side so that the motherboard lays flat. Don't have to ever worry about GPU sag, maintenance and upgrades are easy because I go in from the top, not trying to balance things by accessing from the side. On top of that, it looks great, is lightweight for moving, fits everything I need inside of it and more.. and doubles as extra bench space if I have it on top of my desk :)
hey Dimitry nice review. nice CPU Cooler but i want to know what model is the cooler? thank you, you are one of the few that actually makes case reviews
mATX are some of my favorite systems to build, because they are compact and still have 2x PCIe slots - the perfect amount for an i7 or i5 based PC. Fractal has the right idea, but I wish that more mATX cases were built with 280mm radiator capacity in mind.
Hey, Dimitri. Excellent video, I really loved it. Do you mind telling me what CPU cooler that is? I can't find any info on it, but it looks pretty awesome. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I have the q300L. After stress testing my ryzen 2700x for 30 minutes there is a difference of 10 degrees on the CPU temp with the front panel removed. So it does make a big difference. I’m thinking of drilling a pattern on the front panel.
Put the handles from the Q300P on the Q300L and viola awesome case!! and yes they fit just take off the panel with the cooler master logo on the front and same with the back piece all handles will fit
Why not mount the fans on the inside of the case so they aren't so close to the acrylic front panel? Seems like they would fit giving you about an inch more of room for airflow
Maybe on the other one with the front acrylic, you just need to mount the fans on the inside of the case? Sure won't look as nice but it'll at least get airflow.
I would pay quite a bit of monies for a tempered glass version of Q300L. The basic design is really beautiful. Just don't want to deal with scratches, etc. of acrylic panels.
I like the Q300L, it's small enough to be practical and can house a good amount of hardware. It's made for mainstream users, nothing too drastic with a low price. I want to buy one, modify it heavily (because it's cheap and looks good, nice airflow I think?) and stuff it with hardware.
Love this case, though i have lost 2 plastic filters as i move my case to different places daily. The airflow is horrific though and the stock fans are very noisy spot on
You might try putting the front fans on the inside of the chase? I find my self looking for a chase that is smaller, with handles to be easy to move around.
Been waiting for the Q300L for awhile now, I love the mesh design but hopefully the airflow isnt restricted by the panel itself with just the circles everywhere
"Cooler Master"
>Suffocates the entire system with front panel
*YOU HAD ONE JOB*
they must mean looking cooler, not running cooler haha
At least the cheapest of the two had the right idea.
they should downgrade there title, its obvious they are not masters in cooling lol

You could probably move the fans from the outside of the chassis to the inside and somewhat fix that airflow starvation problem, but those crappy sparse circular perforations are useless anyway. Why didn't they just punch out honeycomb? It's not like they're total case n00bs. They should know way better than this.
I think the cheaper one is better. there are a lot of other options for 70 dollars vs the more expensive one
Agreed!
-D.
And the other options seem better too... but I love the smol one too, I even think about using it meself.
Yeah like the inwin 301 matx with a tool-less tg side panel , and a psu shroud for 70$. Which i use in my main rig.
Agreed. Something about the smaller cheaper case that once you complete it you will be really proud of how it turned out. If.
I like the silloute of the more expensive case, they should release an optional mesh front.
The 300L makes much more sense than the 300P, from both a practical and aesthetic standpoint
mATX is my favorite.
-I only run one GPU
-I’ll have an extra slot for “X”
-Cable management is still great
Me too. I've dabbled with ITX builds for a long time at first. The small cases I've started out with were too cramped to build anything powerful in, and the cases in the "post-Prodigy" era have grown really fat, in which case ITX as a form factor was kind of pointless.

The Q300L is a better look, in my opinion.
yup
yh i hate that rgb one it looks like pure garbage
Yup wish they included at least one handle for it and a psu shroud. It could've been great.
Grime for 70 USD there are better options
I agree. I almost wanna buy it, but the throw away pci slot covers are a deal breaker for me.
So the Q300L is cheaper, has better airflow, has nice magnetic filter, is smaller (which is important in mATX builds), doesn't have plastic parts falling of and looks a lot better in my opinion.

They are technically the same size, aren't they? It's the handles that make the Q300P look bigger

I'm not saying his bad but cooler master shouldn't put them pushing air toward filter but its whatever its not a big deal tho

Personally, I like micro atx cases he best
I think the removable rubber handles on the Q300P are so that you can make the case as small as a Q300L if need be
It makes sense, people have mATX systems for either portability (in which you'd leave the handles on) or size (in which you wouldn't) this also explains the rubber feet on the side of the case of the case as well (to stop it from slipping in transit)
I peel after i build because you may be handling the case a lot while setting up. Having a microfiber towel handy also helps.
What is the CPU cooler??????
No answers Still?.. Its THE "UFO" masterair g100m..
@@vindratheband Woah, thanks mate
you're the same as the guardian peter Quill of the galaxy
The Q300P's best feature is the sturdy handle for chucking it into the trash.
I want to build a high end Ryzen 2xxx build, if there is no X470 matx I may switch to ITX but as you said, I'm a bit stressed about being limited on extension slots...
спасибо за крутое видео!
Эдуард Закоян yes, me too

Don`t worry bro i`ll translate: thank you for a cool video.

I like the Q300L. It's functional. Love the price as well. The Q300L is a much better case.
I've been using the q300l for a month now, and not only does it look better than the more expensive version, it also performs better. I just wished they added a PSU shroud!
Thanks european Chris Pratt.

As in there wouldn't be room for it
You really know what you're doing with these reviews. Excellent work, as usual.
Matx is actually really popular here in the Philippines, budget boards amirite
+Yvell Same here in India
Screw this case TBH, meron naman Tecware Nexus M TG. Sure it has less airflow, but has TG, more fans preinstalled, a PSU shroud, and more.
Yvell you guys have the tecware nexus M and it looks so good, so unfair to us in the US
cresta _ but it has no rubber grommets? gromets? Idk
Superb Falcon yeaaah :D rocking a tecware case myself, kaso older model.
'this board is 100 dollars but usually matx hardware is more expensive.' please do some research before you do these, i like your videos but the amount of misinformation in them is getting insane.
It's an Intel board, so of course it was going to be more expensive.
h110m? h310M?
Nick Gregory Sorry but he said mATX in general witch is probably the cheapest on both sides.. Smh
Honestly all I'd want from the Q300L is inverting the motherboard layout, making both side panels solid, adding maybe an option to have a couple of drives next to the PSU & then it'll be the perfect case IMO
You guys have the best vids in the world, great review.

im loving cm's new designs on their cases
especially that q300L
Still happy with my Silverstone FT-03 - perfect mATX and nothing on the market as an alternative for me. Would like to see manufacturers go that way again. Great honest vid as always,
Don't blame the hardware because YOU didn't do your homework. Obviously you have to research physical compatibility more when dealing with more compact builds.
I hate that matx is more expensive than ATX with less features. I'll stick with atx
Chris Probs because it's hard to cramp in all features in a small board.
Dude mAtx I'd cheaper in most cases...
Daniel Souza yeah if they have less features
PROs
The case is beautifully small and airflow is excellent, I replaced the stock fan with some corsair ones and put in a front mounted Kraken 240 AIO. Loved the mesh design, instructions were easy and there is PLENTY of cable room in the back.
CONs
The small price difference between mATX and ATX parts and the features provided did leave me scratching my head thinking why am I paying slightly under for what seems a lot less.
Holy sh.t that whine about matx...
You chose the wrong cooler.
For all looking for nice matx builds, done right check out AV Techy.
What is the cooler on the motherboard?

There is also a mATX version of the MeshifyC. Another great mATX case is the Evolv mATX. These are more high-end cases but they are great.
I like the use of the dust filter panels on the cheaper case. It has a lot of potential for customization
i bought the q300l case because of you dimitri... loving it...
I wish more companies made ultra compact matx cases. Jonsbo makes some, but they don't have any distributors in North America, so you end up paying a TON for shipping
Good job on the channel Hardwarecanucks! I remember watching your videos when you had less than 100k subs. damnnn
If there is one thing that would do a lot it would be expanding the width enough to fit a giant high profile air cooler.
The thing that drew me to mATX was cube cases. Remember when those were cool? A game rig in a 1x1x1 ft box.
The plastic front panel is to direct airflow from the bottom and create a pressure gradient that goes up and out. Not a design flaw at all.
I'd love to see more small form factor content in the future, maybe a build inside the Loque Ghost S1, the Dancase C4 or the Cerberus X?
hey Dimitry nice review. nice CPU Cooler but i want to know what model is the cooler? thank you, you are one of the few that actually makes case reviews
The perforation on the Q300L can be improved by make it dense so more air will flow .. IMO
mATX are some of my favorite systems to build, because they are compact and still have 2x PCIe slots - the perfect amount for an i7 or i5 based PC. Fractal has the right idea, but I wish that more mATX cases were built with 280mm radiator capacity in mind.
I just got my Q300L a few days ago and I liked building in it. I mostly agree with you but they should've included a 4-pin fan instead of a 3-pin one.
Hey, Dimitri.
Excellent video, I really loved it. Do you mind telling me what CPU cooler that is? I can't find any info on it, but it looks pretty awesome. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
You can add the fans inside the Panel and give Ample space for air behind the front acrylic panel.. Just a suggestion I m not sure if it works..
I have the q300L. After stress testing my ryzen 2700x for 30 minutes there is a difference of 10 degrees on the CPU temp with the front panel removed. So it does make a big difference. I’m thinking of drilling a pattern on the front panel.
You are spot on! I hope CM listen to your suggestions cause I'd really like a portable build in the Q300P.
Put the handles from the Q300P on the Q300L and viola awesome case!! and yes they fit just take off the panel with the cooler master logo on the front and same with the back piece all handles will fit
I really like my mATX system. It's in a Fractal Design Node 804. There's something about the cube style mATX cases that I find really appealing.
I like mAtx builds, your still outputting huge performance with a nice little minimalist case
Ha i was actually just looking at these on newegg for an upcoming build for my friends GF. appreciate the in depth view! Keep up the good stuff!
Why not mount the fans on the inside of the case so they aren't so close to the acrylic front panel? Seems like they would fit giving you about an inch more of room for airflow
My favorite part was the ending,.. creating a shopping list for Cooler Master. All true.
I want to buy one, modify it heavily (because it's cheap and looks good, nice airflow I think?) and stuff it with hardware.
i would love to see a build with the X299E-ITX/AC motherboard. Haven't seen any mini Itx build using x299 on youtube.
