They'd practice day and night. All week, for hours on end. People think they were sloppy and didn't care, but they played everyday, and you can see that.
@@magicstriker8819 They really were a tight, professional outfit, at least until it started to unravel at the end. Lots of drive to practice and get better. My favorite thing from the box set is the Scentless Apprentice demo where you can sort of hear the song come together.
The best is when you notice the 21 drum kit is set up exactly as it was in 91 and the video in 91 of him and current, the movements are identical. You felt the power, you felt Dave's emotion. Reason this guy is so great!
Body language at the end, slumped shoulders, no big Dave Grohl grin when he pushes his hair back after absolutely kicking arse says one thing....after all these years it still hurts. Respect Dave Grohl. We know you're hurting, we feel for you, we love ya man. 🤘🏻❤🥁
he started to vibes to the song and act similar to what he does in the 90s the longer he listen to Kurt's vocal (look at the difference in the intro from when Kurt's vocals in), he feels the spirit.
He could play fast if he wanted to, but he knows when not to. That's what makes him so great. Songs like Breed, Blew, Everlong, No One Knows, Song for the Dead all show that he is comfortable playing at high speeds
Age might be a factor for him playing slower but in the 90s and early 2000s he was a beast. They played SLTS waaay faster live, he shredded those drums almost every time.
Dave is the best, he's been through it all. I'm so sorry that now he feels pain again because of the loss of a person, a wonderful person like Dave never deserves sadness and suffering
Man never missed a beat. All these year later playing this song must have been an emotional roller coaster. I just hope Dave is doing well these days in spite of recent events.
Watching this really makes you appreciate Dave Grohl as performer and music artist. He literally was one of the top rock drummers in the 90s, if not of all time, but also an amazing Grammy award winning song writer playing Guitar and singer as well. I love it!
Dave is a fantastic drummer and always has been, but being fair i did have to change the speeds of his past drumming of the song because they varied so much. You're the first person to comment on this though, ha.
Wow that was nuts. For 1 I never ever thought he would revisit those days because it's still so raw for him but I gotta say I am majorly grateful. Just Amazing
Grohl was always such a truly amazing drummer, I was surprised--and pleased--when he formed Foo Fighters. This mas is an amazing musician, scholar and preserver of rock.
This is one of the greatest videos pertaining to Nirvana I have ever seen. When I first watched Grohl’s performance, a surreal conglomeration of nostalgia and sadnesss and joy washed over me as Kurt’s vocals came in. I has this sense that Dave was playing here on earth, and Kurt was singing along in heaven above. Shit, I’m getting teary eyed and goosebumps as I type this now thinking about it again. So seeing your wonderfully edited clips of Kurt that look as if Kurt’s ghost is singing along from beyond is just beautiful. It’s fucking beautiful man. Also, because they played this song so much in the Nirvana days, I cannot imagine the potent memories that swept over Grohl as he played. This just made my entire day. Thank you ❤️
Felt the same but couldn't have a expressed it better. And now with Taylor passing it just seems unbearable. Can't imagine Dave being able to relive moments with Taylor and not break. Time doesn't heal all wounds.
Dave you are an incredible person. My heart aches for you, I hope you can find peace in your heart soon and continue to do what you love. No matter what it is that helps you feel that peace we will all support you, you’ve given us so many years of joy in your music and I thank you for being someone who has made me so happy all of my days ❤️
i love this guy. he's the real deal. and this song. i mean i tried hard not to love it when i was a preteen but i was and am still hooked. lol and this video is a *_trifecta,_* like that joint in Pineapple Express. 💕
This is a work of art! Best drummer ever. He can't even see his drum kit due to the hair. Yeah, he's just that good. And he's spot on with the older version.

4:20. same man, same movement. Time can pass but he will never forget how it feels to play that. wow.
Even his hair moves in the exact same way. That's insane.
It's incredible. Like the song is primal in his very being.
Muscle memory 😆🤷🏼♂️
Comment shd be: same man, same movement, 30 years apart.
Awesome hey. Just think how many thousands of times Dave has played this song
I love how as soon as he sits behind a kit he’s back to the hiding behind his hair and kit guy that no one knew in nirvana
hi
This video was great. Well done sir! 30 years later and Dave is still an amazing drummer.
Thank you for the kind words
@@wannabefilmy Those are kind and true words, mate.
Mighty fine work!
He's even better now
Excelente, uau.
one of the best drummers in history
Exactly
Dave is an absolute metronome.
You can notice how that pause between the kicks/cymbal hits are so prominent at 4:20. So tight back then and even today!

his smile when he starts playing just shows that he’s reminiscing how it was like to play smells like teen spirit back then
when the words started playing, he covered his face with hair, I would cry ... he misses Kurt like all of us ..

You can tell he was thinking about kurt when he got up I know kurt would be proud of his friend
Nirvana will never sound dated.

he started to vibes to the song and act similar to what he does in the 90s the longer he listen to Kurt's vocal (look at the difference in the intro from when Kurt's vocals in), he feels the spirit.
He may not be the fastest... But that power and that loudness can match any metal drummer💪🔥Dave FUCKIN GROHL!!

He can still do the fast stuff - not a whole concert. In Foo shows, he usually takes the drums for one song and Taylor goads him into a drum solo.
go watch dave playing in them crooked vultures live at albert hall and then tell me he cant play fast
Yeah exactly he is older now that was over 30 years ago and he is adaptable of course and u never lose it
That was a-maz-ing!!!! Same intensity as when he was young. Yet a touch of the bittersweet at the end.

This video truly makes me happy :> in the first 2 mins but then emotional thinking about kurt :’( its a happy sad feeling
this was so good! the edit made it so much more emotional.
Amazing that he plays it at the exact same speed now as he did then. That is some consistency there which is often overlooked in great drummers.

When you do it so many times it kinda becomes second nature, don’t ya think?
I felt that. More than ever today.
You can see how the instant he hits that famous drum fill, he gets transported back to 1991
Goosebumps on 04:20..
When Dave young and then are one frame 🥺
This man is a beast behind that drums, his drums with prodigy in running with wolves is really added a power to their song
Dave is still rocking the drums he still got it NIRVANA FOREVER

Their music was a part of my early teens, I still feel terribly sad when I remember what ended up happening to Cobain.
man that's a FANTASTIC blend! This made my day, thank you!
i love the little smile at the beginning :D
he still plays it the exact same way, the exact same feel as if he was still nirvana prime dave grohl instead of foo fighter grohl. truly amazing
Must have been extremely emotional for him playing this again. It sucks that this year got worse for him also
