What is being mostly left out here is the fact that the Redeemer is a LOT more maneuverable than it was before. I personally like it a lot more post-patch, even with the reduced gun/shield sizes, because now it feels like i actually stand a chance against smaller ships, unlike before - which actually fits the intended role a lot better. The Starlancer TAC doesn't even seem to be remotely similar, either, because the turrets don't seem to even be able to shoot at the same target at the same time, so really it is only similar if you're fighting 3 targets at the same time, cause they cannot converge
in theory it fits the intended role better, however in reality you're never going to use it for pvp just like with every multicrew ship and for pve this change is a clear nerf and a significant one at that
@@Stormyy6310I spent a significant amount of time using the redeemer for pvp prior to master modes. It was absolutely devastating for pvp combat over jump town and brios. I really miss that.
They nerfed this and they nerfed the Corsair. Redeemer should have kept the guns at the very least, its a gunship. The Corsair should have kept the pilot controlled s5's and dumped the wing s4 to the co-pilot or got rid of them, not like the co-pilot isn't busy with remote turret...
Bro I will never understand White Knights defending CIG. IF you sold the concept as size 5s... well keep the size 5's.. If you want to nerf a little just make a new type of size 5 .. like a bespoke one.. and make with a little less dps. EVERYONE knows they nerfed to sell new ships.. there is NOTHING to do with '' balance ''
Don't get ships for artifical numbers in some config file that are changed in a whim - get them for their role (which hasn't changed for the redeemer at all after the nerf). At the end of the day ALL ships have to be in line and balanced anyway
I've seen some whispers on Spectrum that they're actually planning to drop Redeemer shields to 2x S2 for 3.24.3 and reduce shield facings to back and front only, instead fo the quadrant. Now this may still be incorrect, cos JCrewe was very ambiguous with his post, but if that goes to pass... I am at a loss
These types of changes completely removed any thought i had about spending another dime on this game. I already had reservations about it, because of CIG's track record. This was the last straw. CIG just wants your money, and will continue to do bait&switch. Every, single, time. Just take a break from game till SQ42. Until then, they still havent delivered a game with 700M+ $ budget.
I love my redeemer, and even though I haven't tested it yet, I was such a small ship for having those huge shields and guns. With master modes it needed to be more maneuverable. So it makes sense to me, else we have a small ship flying like a large one. so it's fitting better now in a role of anti-fighter.
I actually prefer the Redeemer now than before. Previously, due to its small size (compared to other ships of comparable offense and defense), it was hilariously overpowered, hence why CIG had to make it move like a massive ship five times its size. In my mind, it created this dissonant disconnect. A ship just a bit larger than a Vanguard turned like a Caterpillar. Now, it's brought more in line with what it *should* be: a super heavy fighter/gunboat. A very compact platform for as many guns as possible that moves like a super heavy fighter should. And has firepower and shielding like a super heavy fighter should. She is way more balanced now and I'm happy for her. I might just pick it up now. Alas, the same cannot be said for another ship that also got a ton of nerfs, but got absolutely nothing in return: the 400i.
They are still trying to balance a game in Alpha and it's purely because we are actively all playing it and funding the project that they make these balance passes now. In all honesty just play with the ships you enjoy and stop worrying about the meta, it's going to flip flop a million times, as it already has several times. Just fly what you like and get good with it's strengths and weaknesses. Make videos about it, but also remember it's just gonna shift again when armor, ballistic/energy/other weapon types, flight model changes, and engineering all come online later in development. Before I get "ReeeEeeEEE'd" into oblivion, I'll throw out there that I'm a corsair daily flyer and I had the inferno from day one. See you all out there!
Unfortunately, the redimer is a garbage ship - an unsuccessful freak of the show: "The Next Great Ship" 2014. He should not have been born at all, he did not appear because American patriots voted for the Yankee-British team of developers of this ship, instead of voting for a team of competitors from eastern Europe, who had an awesome ship - objectively better than a redimer. This idiotic design of scissor engines is one of the few dumb decisions made by the authors of this ship. And in general, this show "The Next Great Ship" buried a lot of successful ideas and ships. Few people remember that there was a Paladin ship on this show, which became the progenitor of the current Drake Corsair ship because it was as asymmetrical as corsair... This scissor-ship should not have appeared in this game!
They didn't nerf it, they just changed its role so its more nimble so it's better against faster ships, instead of better on big ships. Make no sense to have a small ship strong as a hammerhead.
Maybe says something about the hammer heads balance. Both are pure military fighting ships. They should be OP at their one thing. It's a fking joke that corsair, 600i or conny are ever even close to these two ships at combat anything. Why would anyone make a specialist combat craft that is still comparable multirole ships which off WAY more utility for little to no trade in combat capacity.

well in 3.24.3 test server, the shield config is indeed front/back. But the number of shield generators was not reduced to my knowledge.

as of the most recent .3 patchnotes they also dropped the shields even further to two s2s.... on 11/5
