Played this for my mum when she got home from the hospital after 5 months .She was so happy to be home ..she passed on the 18th january 2021 ..i was holding her hand .RIP mum ...love you ♡
My beloved Mum passed yesterday: 05 April 2023. She was 83 years old and suffered a fatal sub-arachnoid haemorrhage....I'm just home from the hospital, throughly distraught and bereft of my Mother....
Always has me in buckets this song as it brings memories of much happy and simpler times when life was slower and people had time for one another. It was given alot of airtime back then and I can still visualise my late parents singing along to it.
Hi there how are you doing today I'm Lucifer in shanklin isle of wight yeah the 70s the hair the clothes and the music where as the time gone let's go back in time and stay at that time
Hello Issy. I was a child of the 1970s and totally agree with you. We used to go out at 9am and be out all day with no worries. TV watch much better back then and folk were more frienflier. X
Takes me back to when I am 12 years old and my Mam used to sing this to my Dad who had been working away all week in the days of no mobile phones and we didn't have a house phone then. Both are no longer in this world and this song brings so many memories back of me enjoying the seventies,my Dad grafting away and lovely Saturday mornings catching up with a bacon sarnie and my Mam washing all my dads clothes . . great days.
I feel they were close in real life, they were holding hands a lot during the song, and every time she loooked at him, you could see the love in her eyes.
Often wondered how it got lost along the way. Great Christmas song and a great banner for people returning home and all kinds of reunions. Often wondered how they lasted so little. Their songs have a timeless message and sound.
I know what you mean and I don't know if it's because I was young with no worries enjoying life or being naive. My parents probably said same and realised how hard life was when older
This was played at my dear mums funeral 3 months ago today, I love u mum I didn't just lose my mum I lost my best friend, I miss you and love you so much xxx
Nikki, condolences to you. I will think of you next time I listen to this. I just shared it with my brother who is back home from working in a war zone. It's a beautiful song and means much to many xx
It is a beautiful and emotional song but sadly the world was still full of wars, famines and crime when it was released,we learn nothing from history, only that music was a lot better years ago.
The other week we finally decided to place my dogs ashes on my late grandad's grave where we also scattered my granny and uncle and when we got back in the car to drive home this is the song that was playing on the radio. My mum and I cried the whole way home, such a beautiful song
❤🙏🏻Thank you for posting this! 😢I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to find it. My dad was an entertainer/musician and was on the road traveling most of my childhood. My mom had this record and I always knew the words, but I was very young when it came out. As I grew older I realized what the words were saying and why she loved the song 🥹. She is 94 now and almost ready to go to her heavenly home, so I plan to play this at her funeral- it’s my Daddy’s turn to welcome her home and they will forever be together 🥲💗
My dear mum played this song when I come home from the slammer 5 long years ago, she has kept me out ever since. It was my first sentence, love you mum, forever and always ❤️
I sing this to all my military service brothers when they touchdown on home soil it brings tears to their eyes .I can't imagine what they done and saw just happy that they are home
Love this song. I heard it in 1978 when my sister brought a cassette tape of Peters & Lee from the UK. Loved it ever since. Brings back ton of memories. I am 57 now.
Some facts about Lennie and Dianne that some of you may not know: 1. Lennie Peters was blinded in one eye aged 5 during a car accident, and the other at 16 when a brick was thrown at him. 2. Peters was the uncle of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts. 3. The singing duo’s original name was Lennie Peters and Melody. 4. Their first performance was supporting Rolf Harris. 5. They were the first act after the Beatles to simultaneously chart a single and an LP at number one in England. 6. Peters’ daughter Lisa was murdered in a caravan park in 2005, while on holiday with her three young sons. 7. Peters died of bone cancer in 1992, at the age of 60. 8. He had links with East End gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray, who encouraged his career. Another brother, Charlie Kray, attended his funeral. 9. Peters appeared briefly as a crime boss in the 1984 film The Hit. 10. Dianne Lee married Wizzard bass player Rick Price, and they still tour together as a duo. 11. The duo’s best-known hit Welcome Home was used to advertise Walkers Crisps in 1995.
Those are really interesting little and not so little anecdotes . How do you know so much about them and do you have any links to any of them in particular the story of his daughter being murdered? They have certainly had more than their fair share of misfortune, the guy getting blinded in one eye and then another years later is almost unbelievable and just beyond bad luck
and the song was originally called Vivre by Lenny Kuhr , who won the 1969 Eurovision for France. The song was translated to English and the rest as they say is history
Takes me right back to the early '70's when I was a kid. Songs like this are very evocative but the effect is not just nostalgic. There really was a warmth there which has utterly vanished from this cynical, cold modern world and we suffer because of it. And you realise from a humble little pop song like this. You weep without knowing it.
Quite similar here my father would join in singing this every time it came on TV so the song always reminds me of him -:just Keep your fathers memory strong and he,ll always be with you .
Thanks for serving. I have a slightly different take on this song as it was released not long after I was blown sky high by an I.R.A. bomb, as a 4-yr-old, standing holding my mother's hand as we waited on my father coming out of the office on a Saturday lunchtime. They played their usual sick joke of telling the R.U.C. in a coded phone call that it was planted at the opposite end of the street, so they always got the highest casualties that way (as police hurried us towards the explosion). I live with C.P.T.S.D. & lost many friends & family members in civilian police & "special" forces units over the years. When my husband & I bought a house in Southern California, we opened our home to marines, "Top Gun" pilots & sailors who were homesick & loved being in a family atmosphere. They also got to break the rules for new recruits as we allowed them to use our phone for long calls home. We often had around 20 for dinner :-). The other thing they loved was volleyball & barbeques on the beaches. They called me "Mrs. B." & I was a LOT younger than most of them, loved them like family &, sadly some never came home after the Gulf War. God Bless & keep your head low (now I'm sliding into another '70's pop song :-) ).
Never ever get tired of hearing this wonderful lovely song.....48 years later !!!!... incredible but just shows you that some songs really can stand the test of time.....and what a lovely couple really suited each other.....anyway God bless and please remember to try and b kind to each other as good karma so important xx 😇🥰😎❤❤❤
Totally agree with you. I was 10 when this song came out and I believe we lived through the very BEST time for music. We had Pop, Glam Rock Rock Punk etc etc. I am just glad that I was a child in the 1970s.😀
Ahh the days when there was only one tv in the house, and we all use to sit around watching as a family. Although only 3 channels at the time, there was more quality on tv with just those 3 channels than the 100 we get now. The music had more meaning, and you could hear real instruments being played ( unlike the computerised crap today). Yes the 70's and 80's were memorable periods, where live was simple and happier with the little we had.
I was just going to say that! I reviewed all the UK #1 hits (1952-present), and this got 8/10 from me. There are some good songs now, but the scum in the toilet bowl is what usually gets to number one. (I was born in 1999. 2006 was the only good year this millennium (2000 was in the 20th century).) As for TV and films? I'm not sure, but definitely not as good as in the past.
Yomi Dahl, go back to those days then, just have one TV in your house and limit yourselves to three channels. Listen to 70s and 80s music, and have no internet connection. Bet you won't.

(I still have a Linn Sondek record player and listen to vinyl records). There were 4 or 5 TV channels, which was plenty. Life was simpler in the 70s. London (where I live) was less crowded, not multicultural. It was easier to afford a house, there was less traffic. Things were far less commercialized and less oriented toward spendy “luxury” experiences that regular people cannot afford. The 90's began, and life became digital....... P.S. I wish that the internet was never invented, it ruined society
I was only 7 years old when this was released, yet after all the time spent in Lockdown, it feels like only yesterday! As so many others have said, it reminds me of times when things were so much better, and the world was a better place to be. Consider this to be the PERFECT Song choice to see an end to all Covid restrictions within social life & the hospitality industry. The welcome home and return to normality, in the hope we can learn from our past and work towards a better, safer and more caring future.
Can’t stop playing this song I loved it when it was released love it even more now. Got 2 military sons based in Afghanistan and it’s been 11 years since I had them both home for Christmas and new year this year I’ve got my dream. Subject to Covid regulations they will be home to see their children to see their family. I’m the proudest mum in the world. Welcome home my very handsome gorgeous boys.xxx💙🥰🌈💙🥰🌈🎄💂💂♂️
I was a dj at a ( small )night club on south coast england when this song was a hit ,they were booked to be the main act one night .What a great loverly couple ,Sung their songs and had all the time in the world afterwards to have a drink and chat to me and " fans " couple of The Bee Gees and a few other famous people at the time were in the club as well to just be in audience and see them .Sat drinking and talking till very late , never forget it .Brilliant
Love this song and haven’t heard it for 20 years. My parents used to dance to it together on a Sunday, in-between preparing the roast, bless their souls ❤
I had completely forgotten this little gem.Have not heard it for years, still beautiful takes me back to my innocent youth when everything was so much nicer, especially the music. Thanks for a blast from the past.👍👍👍⚘
As a kid in the 70's, when the adults would sit around the table and party with the guitar, this was one of their fave songs, and it was my dads who passed away many years ago but still i can shed those tears when i listen to this song, thankyou for posting. great memories
I was just 10 years old when this song came out. I remember seeing Peters and Lee on Opportunity Knocks with Hughie Green. I loved this song then in 1973 and still love it today on 26th November 2023 some 50 tests later.
Put this on and didn't realise how emotional it would make me . Thinking of my dear old Nan who would sing this to me when I popped up on my way home from school , always happy to see me and do me some dinner . Miss you every day Lil xx
This also takes me back to when I was a kid growing up in the 70's...things just seemed so much simpler then. Loved being a kid back then RIP Lennie Peters
Beautiful song, i find it great to listen to these classic old songs but also feel a sadness when watching and knowing that these amazing people are either past on or forgotten. The lady singing in this here is so beautiful, i wonder what ever become of her and the gentleman. thanks
I love this song, the nostalgia, a simple song about a reunited love, and well sung by Peters and Lee, Lenny Peters had a wonderful bluesy voice, and Diane Lee complimented it beautifully, what a smasher Diane Lee was, Lenny Peters passed away and is missed.
Me too, I'm so glad I was s 70's child. Such happy carefree days. I remember going with my Mum to the record store to buy the 7 inch vinyl of this. In my town the last record /cd store closed its doors last year, such a shame!
if the record companies weren't so greedy, they could be still selling vinyl and cd's. they alwasy gave us bad value for money, i felt.# i mean, 5 or 6 songs on each side of an expensive LP. NO WONDER k-tel scooped top prize for giving us 10 or 12 tracks on each side. still, the cd's are better !!
I'm so alone, my love without you You're part of everything I do When you come back, and you're beside me These are the words I'll say to you Welcome home, welcome Come on in, and close the door You've been gone, too long Welcome, you're home once more I thought of all the things I'd say to you When you come back to me someday When you are here and we're together With all my heart you'll hear me say Welcome home, welcome Come on in, and close the door You've been gone, too long Welcome, you're home once more There are so many lonely people Why must they ever be apart I hope someday you'll be together Singing these words with all your heart Welcome home, welcome Come on in, and close the door You've been gone, too long Welcome, you're home once more (Welcome home)
I remember Peters and Lee from the 70s my Mum god rest her sole used to love them and this was one of her fav songs nice to here it again words are lovely brings back happy memories for me as a child .
Reminds of my Dad's parties at home. Listening to my uncle's and Dad's friends sing these songs was a childhood memory. As I grew older I started singing these songs at parties.
Fantastic British talent!! It was a simple song but this inspiring duo made it magic, each time they performed this they had the audience in the palm of their hands' My 18 year old daughter liked their performance as well. Great memories and thanks for the posting..and thank you Peters and Lee!!
This bring back such warm memories. I was 11 years old at the time. Songs like this one mean so much to a lot of people. What a shame that young people today only get to hear songs about ego and contempt for others. Fact: Lennie Peters was Uncle to Charlie Watts, the drummer in The Rolling Stones.
music transports you back in time. fantastic but then reality sets in and its hard to forget. then you wish you could go back.please someone invent a time machine!
So underated..Saw them in Margate in the 70s several times.Bought the house down each time. Music and recordings that are timeless. Dianne was and still is....GORGEOUS!!!!
I love this ! Forget this and that about the difference between music now and then, this is a wonderful track from the seventies - an imo its fab. RIP Lenny, love ya Lee ! x
loveit!!! thankyou for posting xx My brother emigrated to Australia when he was 19, I was 10 that was in 1976.Everytime he visits I play this still breaks my heart we have spent so many years apart x
We had a simple childhood not obsessed with technology and phone addicted . Playing in the parks with jumpers as goal posts for hours . The cinema was a real treat . It was idyllic in some ways but not perfect by any means .
I was only 3 months old when this song came out and then my auntie and uncle came around and sung this song to my mom and dad with me to have a look at me. That is what my mom told me, and I always love to hear this song too. It's so romantic.
Back in 1973 and as an 8 year old this was just something I just heard in the background on Opportunity Knocks and the radio but now I appreciate what a great song and performance this was.
This always reminds me of my mum,was one of her favourite records.even though she's not here today there is so much music from the 70s to keep you at the front of my mind. love you mum xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I was never alive to see my grandad but my mum and auntie and my dear nan assure me this was his favourite song so I always listen to it hoping he's watching down on me

So true Francis beautiful music
Peters and Lee were so underated , this is a classic . So evocative of much better times
agreed
This is the 1st time I've heard these lovely singers for many years . And what a pleasure to still listen to them both. Lovely

Used to sit and watch mom and dad whenever this was on TV, the look of love in their eyes brings tears to me now.

A fabulous song from the fantastic 70s ! Brilliant memories from lovely people x
What a great song by a brilliant and great Peter's anf lee.
One question are they still alive.
This song brings back happy memories of the 1970s
My Daddy loved this song i miss him so much!
As a kid in the 70's, when the adults would sit around the table and party with the guitar, this was one of their fave songs, and it was my dads who passed away many years ago but still i can shed those tears when i listen to this song, thankyou for posting. great memories
This song makes me cry in 1973, and it still does.
I was just 10 years old when this song came out. I remember seeing Peters and Lee on Opportunity Knocks with Hughie Green. I loved this song then in 1973 and still love it today on 26th November 2023 some 50 tests later.
I want to cry........it brings back memories when I was with my lovely mum and dad and being a kid was cool x
Can't beat these songs, I still listen to my yesteryears music and drift away to my glorious days of our lives.
Nostalgia! Thanku xx🤗♥️♥️ beautiful
Loved being a kid back then
RIP Lennie Peters
What a Classic..Absolute Beautiful voice...bring back the good old days!
Beautiful song, i find it great to listen to these classic old songs but also feel a sadness when watching and knowing that these amazing people are either past on or forgotten. The lady singing in this here is so beautiful, i wonder what ever become of her and the gentleman. thanks
Such memories......takes me back to times when these lyrics meant the world to me. They still do deep in my heart.
absolute classic from a time when things were better!
+postcardterry yes indeed!
+kate davenporty Thanks Kate ! Nostalgia is such a beautiful emotion when times are hard !
+postcardterry ain't it though! take care mate :)
+kate davenporty and you Kate !
+postcardterry thankyou :)
Dave Radstock
I live in Radstock Dave Radstock !
Wish I could go back to those day's.
Me too, I'm so glad I was s 70's child. Such happy carefree days. I remember going with my Mum to the record store to buy the 7 inch vinyl of this. In my town the last record /cd store closed its doors last year, such a shame!
if the record companies weren't so greedy, they could be still selling vinyl and cd's. they alwasy gave us bad value for money, i felt.#
i mean, 5 or 6 songs on each side of an expensive LP.
NO WONDER k-tel scooped top prize for giving us 10 or 12 tracks on each side. still, the cd's are better !!
me too
Me too....just good memories now .
Can I come too. I hate this wretched age it's boring and fake.
remember this song from my childhood when everything seemed easier
Ow to be young again
STFU
it's a lovely song I love it
How true, what a mad mad world now 😟
Everything was great then, wish I could go back to the 70s and not come forward to the present.
This was the song my sons father was playing when i came home from Hospital with our baby boy in my arms...beautiful memories ..❤
This was playing on the radio when my Mum returned home from hospital after giving birth to me. It's always held a special place in my heart.
My dear Mum loved this and used to sing it to us.
Miss you Mum..
What a fantastic song. This song brings tears to my eyes.
My mum returned home to Buckie, Scotland 1976 after years down in London. My Uncle, played it as she arrived. A memory always with me
What a lovely memory.
I remember it. Even well into the late 1970's, you could still hear it on the radio. They were a great duo.
Bad day at the office, then we played this put a smile on all our faces. including customers! Well done Peters and lee timeless claasic
2021and still a Classic and I play it on air a good few times a year.
My Dad ran a mobile disco in the 70s and always played this song..it makes me smile thinking of him. Wish I could welcome him home Love you dad RIP x
I'm so alone, my love without you
You're part of everything I do
When you come back, and you're beside me
These are the words I'll say to you
Welcome home, welcome
Come on in, and close the door
You've been gone, too long
Welcome, you're home once more
I thought of all the things I'd say to you
When you come back to me someday
When you are here and we're together
With all my heart you'll hear me say
Welcome home, welcome
Come on in, and close the door
You've been gone, too long
Welcome, you're home once more
There are so many lonely people
Why must they ever be apart
I hope someday you'll be together
Singing these words with all your heart
Welcome home, welcome
Come on in, and close the door
You've been gone, too long
Welcome, you're home once more
(Welcome home)
When I die and see my loved ones again in a better place, hope this is playing ❤
I remember Peters and Lee from the 70s my Mum god rest her sole used to love them and this was one of her fav songs nice to here it again words are lovely brings back happy memories for me as a child .
Great! this was what the 1970's was all about. It certainly gets my vote. Lovely.
Reminds of my Dad's parties at home. Listening to my uncle's and Dad's friends sing these songs was a childhood memory. As I grew older I started singing these songs at parties.
I was only 10 when this came out. Waves of nostalgia flowing through me right now :)
i was ten when this was broadcast on christmas day 1973, am seeing it in colour for the first time.
Fantastic British talent!! It was a simple song but this inspiring duo made it magic, each time they performed this they had the audience in the palm of their hands' My 18 year old daughter liked their performance as well. Great memories and thanks for the posting..and thank you Peters and Lee!!
Means a lot to me. played it when my husband came back from a 6 month trip with the Royal Navy.
I remember this at New Year’s parties when I was a kid, drunk Scottish people love to sing along to this sort of stuff
music transports you back in time. fantastic but then reality sets in and its hard to forget. then you wish you could go back.please someone invent a time machine!
these two just popped into my mind and I have not heard them for decades since I was a girl and I loved them
thanks for posting
So underated..Saw them in Margate in the 70s several times.Bought the house down each time.
Music and recordings that are timeless.
Dianne was and still is....GORGEOUS!!!!
Who enjoyed watching Kenneth and his friend Liam singing this in Neptune’s in Benidorm
I'm a Japanese. I like this song!! I am used to sing this!! This song makes me happy every time!!!
Thank you UA-cam for looking back at our memories. your the one 💙

Absolutely Beautiful song ❤️🇬🇧👍🏻
Just pure quality, simpler times, life is so precious.
A wonderful song by two really gifted singers. Thank goodness for the likes of Peters and Lee.
loveit!!! thankyou for posting xx My brother emigrated to Australia when he was 19, I was 10 that was in 1976.Everytime he visits I play this still breaks my heart we have spent so many years apart x
Pretty much the same situation for me!!
Timeless song....
Fabulous and timeless. Nice arrangement here. Sung with real feeling and a sentiment that echoes down the generations.
Back in 1973 and as an 8 year old this was just something I just heard in the background on Opportunity Knocks and the radio but now I appreciate what a great song and performance this was.
My late dad loved this song, used to sing it to us as kids in seventies, very emotional hearing it again.
