A Carnivore's Return to Sprinting After Calf Injury in Under 7 Days!

  • So I said I was out of commission for sprinting for 7 days in the video, but after reviewing my notes I was only out for 6 days! 7 days was amazing enough for me because in the past when I have hurt a muscle or a tendon or anything it usually lingers for weeks before I am back to normal, sometimes even months. I thought this was going to be a similar experience, and I was really bothered by that during those six days, but to my amazement I woke up on this day with zero pain! As I write this description it has been two more days since the sprinting in this video, and I had another great day of sprinting today as I added 60m to my normal goal of 600m a day. I figure with the rest days added by only sprinting on Mon/Wed/Fri I should be able to push up to 1000m on sprint days over time. It is truly amazing how much better I feel after sprinting also. My mind is clearer, my attitude is better, and I can press into the tasks of my daily routine easier. Onward and upward!

My 30 year old son sprints two miles in 15 minutes a few times a week these days. When he started sprinting at a gym a few years ago, an older man came up to him and told him that he was impressed. He said that most people over 30 never sprint or do more than jog. He told my son to keep it up. I am so proud. My son is 5% body fat and eats low carb high protein. My example these past 5 years made a difference.Even an old mom trying to be healthy eating meat can be an example.

On my bike ride this morning, I decided to try sprinting at a local park. I'm 57 and haven't sprinted in 25 or 30 years. I found out, I can't sprint at all. Wow. I did 4 runs about 50 yards/meters. It was pretty sad and funny at the same time. I'll keep at it. Thanks for the inspiration.

I hear you!...I said to myself through my 30s and 40s that I would never let myself stop being able to run. Now in my mid 50s I'm surprised how my abilities have changed. Crazy but true 🥴...😅

Hi Dante, sorry to hear about your injury. Sean Omaha did say a person shouldn’t take off fast in the beginning of your sprint like you are doing, but to rather build up your speed slowly and then go all out once you are up to speed (for beginners like us for preventing injury) he did say most injuries happen on the fast take off, especially hamstrings.

Fun to see. I am in almost exactly the same place. I pulled my calf muscle two days ago. Couldn't walk without pain. Gone now when walking at least. Last year a damaged my Achilles tendon - much worse .Took 6 months and loads of daily rehab. Most important : we don't give up. We keep at it even with more caution. I do the skips . I do jogging 5 min pre sprint. I will take the dynamic stretch more seriously in future. Some of the skips contain dynamic stretch as I see it. At first I feared the calf muscle would beach me for months . Now I think a week will do. BUT I 'll be cautious come Sunday. Keep going ,mate.

    Awesome Dante, great job!
At 59 years old, I do MIIT for 20 seconds, which gets my heart rate in 160+ bps zone. Then when I go back down to 120 bps in about a minute. I spent for another 20 seconds and repeat the whole cycle.
I never measure distance. I just run as fast as I can for 20 seconds until I'm out of breath and I have to hunch over at the end. If I I can last longer than 20 seconds. I'm not running at MIIT rate. I keep running until I get six solid 20 seconds MIITs.
I also warm up with his slow jog for 1 mile before doing this.
I also start all of my sprints with a slow running start before I count 20 seconds, and then I do the reverse at the end. I do this to avoid injuries I'm almost 60 years old. This has worked really consistently well as I've been doing it now for eight months.
    You're doing great!

We are the same age. You are an inspiration. I just started 40 days ago (carnivore, not sprinting), unfortunately not sooner. At the moment I am SLOWLY starting to incorporate exercise (walking, push-ups). First big milestone for me will be 90 days of BBBE.

Wow Dante! You really look so good! I have watched every sprinting video, and not only did your form in sprinting improved you have a glow on your face. Your knees are defo coming up so much more. Tip, when you are in the "blocks" position, keep your head up and look a head, that will make your balance better goming up. Also in your squads, when you are deep in it, hold on to something first and then rock your hips open from one side to the other slowly. That help open your hips and help with hip mobility. I am sooooo happy for you and can never wait for more videos on you progress. Keep it going!!🎉

I'm glad to see you recovered from your injury quickly. I've started doing some ballet exercises (I dislike yoga) to help with flexibility and strength (there's great YT channels for them). I'm 63 years old and the last time I took ballet was 60 years ago LOL. I'm hoping the strength and flexibility will help when I start sprinting. I've been ketovore for 2 years and feel the best I've felt in my adult life. Thank you for your great videos, they keep us inspired and informed❤

Great going Dante, I am mixing up my sprinting with some sprint swims at the moment followed by a sauna. It's still pretty miserable outside here in the UK it hasn't stopped raining and sleeting now for months looking forward to some dryer weather. Currently, injury free that's the good thing about Carnivore is the recovery seems quick.

But sometimes I want better results quicker. Just need more P vitamin. Now on Lion Diet for the lent.

I’m using badminton to get myself back into exercise after a toe injury, at the gym near the end I tried some sprinting. Like you there is no burst of power off that sprint start yet. It will come I think. I’ve been watching sprinting exercise vids too! I’m 63yrs so don’t want to hurt myself either.😊

At 58 I cannot sprint every day, once a week I can do it pain and injury free. In the summer I work on my ranch and I work 6-8 hrs a day 4 days a week, ride mtn bike 1 day and church on Sunday. During the winter I snowbird down south that’s when I hit the gym 3 times a week, bike ride 2 and usually one of those gym days I either sprint or do a rowing machine for 30-45 second reps with a minute rest. I’m able to leave the ranch in the winter cuz I got a great neighbor, he runs the cattle on my property so my cattle (2) are with his all year. Gonna harvest the steer this summer and I’ll be off the US food supply!

Hi Danti, your videos are so inspirating hey, I've been watching you for some time. I am 59 years old and have been carnivore for quite some time now about one year. Enjoy watching your shows. I get a lot out of them. Love the sprinting. I may have to take that up. I don't know if I'll get quite as technical as you, but I think sprinting is something I could see me doing in the in the near future. Thanks for all that you do!

Another Great video Dante.I’ve slightly pulled my hamstring and calf while trying to sprint in the past. Your recovery timeline is excellent! I’m slowly getting back into it. For me, nothing compares to sprinting when doing high intensity. I just need to stay healthy…I’ve changed to running on grass and that seems to help. My injuries came while running on concrete. Keep up the great work. I’m in the fight with you!!!

I’m just trying to take my time increasing my speed. What’s been frustrating is that these pesky injuries come out of nowhere. I’ll admit that my warmups, and mobility after sprinting, are lacking.

Hope to progress to proper sprints when the weather improves,by which time my legs should be primed and good to go !!

Great stuff as always Dante, thank you!
I felt a slight muscle pull the other day whilst walking briskly to work! So you never know when you might get a tightness or strain, even with walking! Luckily just caused a flinch and no problems since two days on; but I think I'll do a few of these static stretches anyway, cannot hurt.
And can I just say, for those that aren't quite on the level to sprint or even jog short distances yet... a speed walk (or brisk or fast paced walk) for a short or long distance, depending on your fitness and other factors helps in the early stages. By mere walking alone I have toned legs and can now see curves between my outer thigh muscles on each leg and detailed muscles on my backs and sides of calves, whereas just last year I had quite chubby non-muscular legs.
I'll keep walking for now, but I am very interested in this sprinting and hope to factor it into my days in the near futue, so thank you so much again Dante, wondeful advice and journey!

I need to see myself in slow mo. I want to have my foot touch down directly under my hip / centre mass . If not I will break speed - makes sense. I could hear my son breaking speed and correcting this made him faster and more silent. I also see loads of sprint videos. At 62 you gotta take care. BUT we are doing it . We fight back literally running on MEAT.
Wish they would sell Carnivore Bars in Sweden/ Europe. Or produce them on license here.

Shorter strides will help you be on your toes. Your actually running instead of sprinting. Try to intentionally to do a tip toe walk into a sprint. But hey it's awesome how you have kept this up and continue to improve!!! Good for you.
But what do I know...im just a 65 yr. Old sprint gal.

Love sprinting but at this age i just can't get away with doing it on consecutive days. So, Im still working out the schedule that works for me, as I've onl;y been at it a couple of weeks. I do know that walking for around 20 minutes before and after the actual sprint and on the days betwen the sprints is very important for washing out the lactic acid build-up that sprinting incurs. One of the secrets Ive discovered is not to try to look down at my feet during the sprint.

Ita not about "getting used to exercising",its about improper rest.
If a person exercises and doesnt rest PROPERLY so that a person revolvers rather then becomes overworked which will make exercises a poison of degeneration rather then a way to build up a body
    Solutions:
1.Incline bed therapy, thats the BIG PART od recovery because flag beds are KILLING THE CIRCULATION and also flat beds are probably the MAIN CAUSE of heart desiese.
Flag bed Are literally putting the body in the consrant state of stagnation and stress and then body cant recover as well.
2.Using trampoline-exercise thats easy for the joins as well as moves the lymphatic system. Exelent for cell movement.
3.Taking cayan peppers-that can speed up the circulation and help as well.
4.Drinking urine-yes,thats the multivitamin/mineral boost. Urine Is the type of distilled water.
5.Making solar water-U can put the Glass of Water (like a 1 litre Glass bottle) on the sun, best would be to use Glass instead of plastic to close the bottle, and after 8 or more hours u can use that,Drink or use it like a shower for example.
6.Bone broth-Drinking bone broth maybe in addition to drinking water.
In terms of chichens,u Can try to play classic Music to chickens and using an Atmoshepric Antena (electroculture) then maybe chickens would make more eggs.
If u want u can check "Cultivate Elevate" chanell as well as Yanik Van Doorne (i Guess i typed that right). videos,
If u want u can contact Andrew K Fletcher on Facebook, for Incline bed Therapy. Its just putting 2 or more blocks below the bed From the upper side and thats it.
    God bless!

It looks to me that your sprint startup position is too long... Where your back foot is too far back, resulting in that leg is too straight. This means that leg has no power to take off. All power is from the other leg. If you were to shorten how far back the back foot is... Which would result in that leg being slightly bent. More power will come from that leg to push of with, resulting a more fluid power stroke from both legs. Also don't try to stand up to fast... It seemed that your power was more up than horizontal... What is the right push off angle is what feels best for you. Try different "launch" angles to figure what is best. Thanks for the videos.

Ive tried to sprint with to much effort and bad result , popped something in my calf that took a week to recover from . What has interested me is what they call Jamba run on a rebounder , a running technic on a rebounder to avoid tearing my calf muscles (ua-cam.com/video/vBPTxWHfMZY/v-deo.htmlsi=VYU5qF_wxgL65xVY )
