I actually have had this game for a long time on the switch and didn’t really care for it, despite a few attempts to. Recently I booted it back up to give it another try and now I’m HOOKED. Idk what made the difference for me but this game is so good!

Being a sucker for Star Fox and basically any open world, exploration heavy, dogfighting in space - type game, I had to opt in for the $74.99 Digital deluxe version. So far, I'm loving it. And just so you guys know, I'm 29 years old and grew up with Star Fox 64. So if anyone who grew up in the same era as me, if you're asking if this game is for you - it is.
Good to know, I'm 30 and loved SF64. SFZero was OK, but like the UA-camr said, couldn't wrap my head around it because of controls, though I did end up beating it.
I mean don't go into this thinking it'll be Star Fox. It's not Star Fox, but if you enjoy open world exploration games this is a no brainer. The dogfighting in space is reminiscent of Starfox, but it's more similar to the Star Wars games (The Clone Wars for when you're on planets, and Starfighter when in space). It's fun if you don't go in looking for a Star Fox game, but rather an open world game with some elements of what made Star Fox, Star Fox (namely the space combat, but it's not on rails).
edited to add: also it's repetitive, but if you are a fan of most other Ubisoft open world games, you should already know this.

I feel like all of the other Nintendo game review channels have blown this game off a little like it is a kiddy joke. People seem to be scoffing at the toys and resent having to buy anything, so they say it's wisest to buy digital only, which I think defies the spirit of what the game is supposed to be. They haven't badmouthed it, but I feel like they don't really care much. I"m glad to see someone actually excited about how cool this game is. I bought it and I love it. I love the toys too - they aren't just a burdensome expense, they're part of the fun! If you buy this game with the starter pack, I recommend also buying AT LEAST one additional weapons pack so you can do some part swapping. You'll want more ships later too. As for pilots, yeah - I stick with Fox. But I do like many of the other characters. They're not as generic or lame as some people have made them seem.
I play digital only, I can still flip the part and weapomary which is still awoesome. Only the HD RUMBLE is not so good in handheld mode

It's good you can have fun with the toys but in my case I like options and the digital deluxe is the best cause personally I dont want to deal with the toys and have to pay more for weapons when I can just unlock them in the game. Also the deluxe gives you all the content which the starter pack does not
It's most likely because the toys are only compatible with the starlink game and doesn't give bonuses to other games like the amiibo does, which at least gives the amiibo more value. Also, compared to the amiibo, the average people were kinda meh about collecting ships than they were figures, so that decreases the value of the ships.
Yes because the "spirit of this game" is to get you to spend money. All these ships and weapons could have just been part of the game that you unlock by completing missions etc.
@@secondsein7749 except for Arwing, many people want it. The toys acted with nfc chips like amiibo but it was program to only appear in the game without giving items and all.
Sometimes I feel like playing Batman Arkham Knight batmobile too, you know the way the ship moved and about, haha

I was lucky enough to work on some of the promotional material for this game and I must say all the developers I met were extremely passionate, talented and all-round lovely people. They cared a lot and it shows in the final product, definitely one of the best games on the Switch.

While I’m personally not interested in Starlink: battle for atlas I’m really glad that Ubisoft is able to produce a version of a game that is on other, graphically superior consoles and still make the switch version the most appealing version to get .

Just so you know, in STARLINK you can have THREE loadouts, in which you can swap in gameplay in a matter of seconds. You just press Start, A, and right bumper and you're good. Swapping weapons seems a little cumbersome, so with this I have a super-fast speedy class (Fox), Tank class on one (with mainly fire weapons), and an agile gun-class that has ice weaponry. It gives me a chance to explore other characters, even though Fox's Ulti is probably the best.
And you can swap these classes so quickly, no loading times, even in the heat of battle. I find swapping classes much faster than swapping weapons most of the time. Just a tip!!
This is one of my favorite games ever, and it was such a surprise. I was too happy when I took the plunge, and I can completely relate to BeatEmUps. You start these side-missions trying to clear the planet, and it snowballs into hours of addicting gameplay, wanting to do more, and seeing the LITTLE progress you've made in the actual story mode.. There's just so much to do..
Thank you for such a positive review, I don't seem to hear many people falling head-over-heels for this game, when it's one of the greats. It's like a Planet Exploration Borderlands game!

Was originally not going to get this because of the toys and did not realize how much star fox was in it. Ended up getting digital version and glad I did. Game is great so far and star fox is added in very well. Love star fox. All the star fox games.... unpopular opinion star fox adventures is the best... Don't worry star fox 64 is second for me. But yeah starlink is good so far.
Even if you dont use the physical Arwing, you still have a sweet collectible model for display. Tbh one of the reasons i got this on clearance at walmart for 5$ was for the Arwing model. 😅

Ubi delivering the goods for the Switch again? I might need to get this game at some point. The "cheap" digital option is $106 Canadian, which makes me sad. I get that the only real competition is their own toy sales, but I doubt this game's budget necessitates a triple-A price tag.
That said, this is a genius play by Nintendo. They test the waters for cross-play with M + R. Then they release a first party exclusive game in disguise on multiple platforms.

One thing I like is that I can set the P2 to the Joycons and use that to put my figures/ships in the game and play with the pro controller on P1.
As someone who liked, but got tired of Skylanders, I think this game is a very nice progression of the TTL games.

Starlink is great - but you definitely have not been keeping up with No Man's Sky. That game is actually quite incredible now.

got it digitally on a half off sale (which put it at retail price for normal games i guess). It wasn't bad, played through it in a couple days when I had a lung infection. It has huge potential, the fighter parts in space plays great.
unfortunately, it has alot of glaring problems. All the outlaw bases up in space are cut-paste, same fight, same enemies, same type of turrets in the same spots for all dozen or so bases, with identical interiors with (i am pretty sure) identical placement of mines. even organic pickup placements are cut and paste for the most part. if you check, all the plants growing on the plains are always in pairs of 2, with identical distance from each other across all plants across all planets.
elements introduced on the first planet never comes back anywhere else, its introduced then disposed of, the progress is mainly grind-building after a little while.
if you look closer, even alot of the animals are reskinned copy-pastes between planets. come on
My starfox storyline bugged and became unplayable without starting a new game.
It was not a bad game, I did have fun with it, but it could have been so much more. It is sad to see that such a potentially great game with such great polish is also so lazily made in gameplay and world building, especially with the insane price Ubi demanded for it just to get to play it with all the weapons. Which, if you don't get, you can't even access large portions of the game and rewards.
Its 10/28 and i my woman just brought my Switch starlink starter pack today and im watching this review while its downloading to the Switch and i have to say this reveiw has me so excited. Thanks Wood for a great video and reveiw SO EXCITED !!!

Must add, it was definitely daunting at first, but have been truly enjoying the mechanics and learning it, since the game doesn't teach you, one must learn as you go.

FYI No Man’s Sky has been brought back from the dead. Hello Games could have taken the pre order money and ran, but they didn’t. They have continued to update the game and now after the release of the NEXT update, they have been doing W E E K L Y events for the community, and updates left and right. No Man’s Sky is no long the disappointment that it was at launch. And I hope you guys can get over that.
sadly no see its known by writers advertisers and movie producers called the first fifteen. that refers to how much time you have to grab someone's attention you have the first 15 minutes for movies to get people interested in said movie and in the case of books and video games comes out to 5 minutes so you have such a short window to grip peoples attention and if you cant you never will why? we are wired this way sadly they can make no mans sky the greatist game ever but first impressions are lasting. So to the populous it will always suck .It would take a lot of PR to make it great again but Ive heard nothing of advertising of no man's sky and new games like Star link the new AC and RDR2 will overshadow it.
Pepper I see your point. But it’s gone too far. Most of the people I see talking about how no mans sky sucks, haven’t ever played the game! The didn’t care to do the Research or even watch ONE video on the game.

It's sadly still grindy as can be. Don't get me wrong, the improvements to No Man's Sky are fantastic, but the grind wasn't addressed.
While I respect Hello Games for sticking to their guns and fixing their game, and I acknowledge the work they've put into making it a better game, the saying "You can't have a second chance at a first impression" exists for a reason.
How come I've not seen anyone make the "No Man's Skylanders" joke before? It seems so obvious.
As for the game, kinda funny how in this case, I have the complete opposite opinion. I found the story and characters super forgettable and unengaging. Since there isn't one main character, there isn't a strong narrative since it lacks focus.
Whilst I like the game and it's sorta mellow and relaxing, the lack of mission variety kinda kills it, and most of the challenge is pretty low to the extent the game is better if you crank it up to the hardest mode once you're familiar with it.

You don't need the microtransactions to end the game, it is a lot more difficult but it is also more fun

@@LovishIssar well, if you buy th game with the Arwing toy it comes with another starship and two more weapons, that makes 4 weapons and two starships and with that you can finish the entire game 100%,it will be more difficult since the AI kills you fast and the starships are the lifes of the game

Like Spyro... We still want the entire Spyro trilogy remake to be on the disc or multiple discs. But Activision is pushing digital only... So, Spyro 1 on the disc and download the rest. That's bull.
Unpopular Opinion: I actually like way more the Gamecube Starfox games (Adventures and Assault) Than all the others

Starfox Adventures was a really cool idea, but the combat and such was far too easy.. but overall I enjoyed myself back then so whatever.
Assault was.. amazing. And the multiplayer with my brothers was endless fun. Being able to jump between Arwing, Landmaster, and being a regular ol' character with some weapons made for some great fun. I hope we get a starfox where we can leave the ships when landing on the planets.. one day maybe. Who knows. I just need to stay a kid... I'm 30 now .. I got this

No mans sky is far better then it was on launch. While the combat depth is better for sure then no mans sky. No mans sky has also way more features
So no starlink does not do no mans sky better. Star citizen would be that game if it ever comes out. The entire point of no mans sky is exploration out of ship and land. Starlink focus is entirely ship combat. Not even trying to be the same thing

True that why i buy it and thats why i enjoy it, i buy a few ship set but always play whit starfox and is ship until i explose , than finish the quest go repair and start whit fox again, and the music when you call your friend for help. NO starfox definetlie not the same game

My kid found the xbox version of this Yesterday in the Clearance Isle. It's still incredible and I spent all night playing it. You're so stuff normally my favorite review, Partially because of the obscure Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack at the beginning that was Obviously put there just for me. Anyway loving the new satisfy grip
I got the Starter pack for 35€ new and I love it. Really great game imo.
