I love how "wrong" everything is . It just shows people that it doesn't matter within reason.
The enormous exhaust it has, it causes lag just because it has a lot of mass inside, but before the run begin, he initially load the engine, witch eliminate it all.
I guess you haven't seen these eBay built K series Motors then
@@carlosevfaj what? exhaust volume doesnt even matter, even length doesnt (look on stav-tech rear mounted hx55 merc he did) lag is just function of turbine a/r, compressor size, bsfc of fuel and heat comming form cylinders
@@exvils exactly
@@exvils figured that out back about 20 years ago on Mitsubishi 4G63T engines
Love this series, what a legend you are for doing this. Thank you!
I second that!
I’ll third it. Great information
I'M JUST A DUDE, PLAYING A DUDE, DISGUISED AS ANOTHER DUDE!
@@richardholdener1727 Well, as far as I’m concerned, you’ve written the best performance Honda books and it seems like you’re continuing that in video form. I truly appreciate it.
@@richardholdener1727 Please, compare fuel on your N/A setup. I think you could make 300hp+ N/A with methanol or nitromethane.
You’ll be impressed Richard when you pull these things apart, very well thought out design almost like a factory race motor without a dry sump.
you know Richard has written a book on the K series over 10 years ago right? haha
@@shanec86 Haha no I didn’t but should have known, the guys a legend!!!
I HEARD HE HAD A GHOST WRITER!
@@richardholdener1727 oh, but I read it hearing your voice 😆
@@richardholdener1727 what’s the best place to buy this book
This is why I love Honda motors. I have a K24A and I'm so pumped to get it running
It made 287hp NA with just the intake and cams? Damn...Thats nutty.
That is amazing that the stock ring gap didn’t butt together at 600hp.
Right!!
I think he's on E85. Alcohol has lower combustion temps and thus doesn't put as much heat into the rings.
This is not some badly designed US engine.
@@V8Lenny see Subaru ej25 lol. Stock ring gap is too tight factory.
@@Levibetz. Tight ring gap is normal, the SRT8’s come with it.
For stock everything spark plug down.. especially stock compression. Running a bit over 15 psi boost and holding plus making good power.... quite an impressive little engine.
That combo makes a crazy power to weight ratio
Thank you Richard , for all the testing .
This is exactly what I wanted to see! Thank you Richard!
I love this series these inline 4's put down some serious numbers
Awesome to see the smaller displacement stuff. I also run at Bonneville, and its fun to see different ideas.
Richard I love the videos and data you provide us. Can't wait for the next one
Keep posting content like this... Love to learn about motors💯
I’m loving this k24 series!
Great series. I’ve known for a long time not to sleep on a turbo Honda, especially from a roll. They can make some serious steam.
I am grateful for you doimg this. I love that you give such concrete real information. I would like to request you do a 20v vw 1.8t motor should be easy to find in a junk yard. I know youre swanped with other stuff thats much more popular but this is my request. Thanks youre the absolute best source of solid information on the internet for upgrades on motors
Sounds like a giant waste of time
FINALLY !!! I BEEN ASKING FOR MONTHS !!!!
MAYBE DO A MINI COOPER ENGINE NEXT
Your a champion richard great video
Thanks 👍
I love how flat the torque curve looks, for a track car is perfect.
Just as soon as possible pull that k24 oil pump out.
At the revs you are running (8100) you are dangerously close to grenading those balance shafts.
Install a k20 pump and you can twist that thing over 9k!
I am just about to start a k20 build. Not sure if I am going to run a k24 bottom end. With the set up I am planning I don't really need the added torque.
Gt35r turbo, pauter rods,je pistons, arp studs. Possibly sleeved but if not a block gaurd at the very least.
Factory head and cams...upgraded springs, locks, retainers and valves.
I expect around 700 crank hp.
Going in an rx8. I am sure it will grenade the trans.
@keithcannon3682 still need springs & retainers to rev that high don’t you on a stock k24a2??
Love this series!!
Keep it coming good work man
Love it! Keep it coming!
Happy to see you testing a K-series just before I buy mine. Now I'll know what I actually need to do to mine when I get it!
I agree! I’m on the same boat, this video just showed me what real power this Series holds and I’m in love!
Good job man I love it keep up the good work
Yes !!! VS 78/75 !!! So glad your putting a bug dog turbo on !
Awesome stuff! Ingenuity at its best.
I’m guessing the GT-45 will be a bit laggy but will really shine above 15 psi. Back tomorrow 😁
The big bang episode will be epic. 💪
If it ever happens. .
I'm amazed your reving that high with the balance shafts still in it.
Same!
Amazing. Lost for words.
Your channel is the best!!!
You're the best!
I JUST LOVE< LOVE THIS STUFF. i like all the wrong things rich does, then fixes them and there you go. right and wrong. {depending on your outlook}
Yes love the myth busting
Please do a rear mount turbo mythbusting!!
Manifold length boost lag needs to be tested!
Hi,
At the rpm that hp. Drops off the air flow is most likely maxed out on the head or you have valve float. also the profile of the cam lsa. Is most likely maxed as well where a larger lsa. may rev higher. 8200 is amazing for any 4 cycle engine is amazing.
You 1.4 turbo cruze engine may rev that high but it explode due to lack of oil supply. Be safe all.
Wow that’s impressive.i want to turbo my kswap honda civic eventually.i just finsihed the swap and as soon as im able to get the kpro ecu ,iam going to see what kindo of power i can make na
Wow!. Looks like my 450cc injectors for my k24z3 turbo might be more limiting than I thought.
Not racing, just driving it on the road.
Thanks so much.
How did you tune VTEC?
Great video series Rich! Going back a video or 2 I'd like to see if there is any difference with wrapped vs unwrapped headers, not only power but cylinder head temp, i.e. thermo reading near the ex ports, does wrapping make a difference, if so does it put extra strain on the cooling system. Can't wait for the head change session.
Idk if you ended up getting your answer or not but supposedly keeping the heat inside the manifold gives the exhaust gasses a higher velocity which spins the turbo quicker.
Great video!
this is amazing!
You should do a balance shaft delete and see if the power comes up just from saving on rotating mass.
Suck that we can prove what budget trans work for this cause we know the k24 with great tunning makes power. But what trans sub 700$ helps us
To me and to my knowledge K24A2 is an European market K-series, came in CL9/CM2 Honds Accords for example
My first k24 made 223hp 190t na im currently in the working on building another but all wheel drive
Knowledge and science is this
cant wait to see the vs7875! Im thinking of using one instead of dual gt3582s
That k24 would work great in my 4th gen. Camaro.
You could piss everyone off with that motor car combo
Or put it into a replica Shelby Cobra. Really piss everyone off lol
@@rotor13 or a c3 corvette and watch a literal mob show up outside your house

I've been watching this thing thru a few vids wearing a Bluetooth and it's interesting to hear the point that VTEC kicks in
YES-VTEC!!!
Mite not look the best but it works and thats what brings the gearheads out!! Realy enjoyed this video
You know what would be an interesting test? An engine with a "perfect" turbo kit vs one with stock manifolds and enough exhaust tubing to simulate a rear mount turbo kit. Just how bad is the rear mount? Obvs you'll want to do pressure and EGT measurements...
Thanks for changing the music.
600hp 😳 Nice 😎
Dig the content. i wonder how much of benefit running a k20 head has with the mix?
Can you do a big bang.....with nitro? Love these engines and thanks for sharing all this testing with us!!
MOST OF THOSE ARE!
I literally just bought one from a junkyard out a 05 tsx complete for $150 they sold it as a core because they didn't have a key to hear it run it was a rear-end collision car im still shocked i got it for $150 well they said $100 but I offered $150!
NICE SCORE
@@richardholdener1727 Thanks man olny problem my fried said he'll sell his mustang notchback so now I got to put the honda build on hold🤦🏿♂️
Turbo everything!
Noticed that non setting compound on your dyno table; that stuff is amazing when you really need it lol.
HYLO FOR THE WIN
There is the thought that really big ex tubing up to the turbo will reduce power and make it laggyer. I wounder about that idea sense the gases will have to come up to speed to get through the turbin no matter what ex size. One day mabey do a direct test with a huge plenum added to to hot side... love you vids and info
THNX-THE TURBINE (HOT) SIDE IS USUALLY THE RESTRICTION TO FLOW
400 hp in a light weight Honda. Good enough for me.
An I have driven a 6.2 satpack. Scary but fun when I know who to counter stear . it's get side wides a lot.
Richard you are a great plumber!! 😎
MARIO!
Ha, ha, ha, 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I have a civic hatchback with a k24a2 all stock an love it! it keeps up with my buds 07 Corvette lol over this winter I'm going turbo to make just 600hp an I'm keeping it all stock
Nice!!
“Just 600hp” lmfao yeah im “just” trying to push the absolute limits of my stock engine to near rod bending levels
@@knowbull5hit590 lol a stock k24a2 is reliable at 600hp. A friend going on 3 years on it an beating it all the time. Now I'm sure it could use a new tune.
@@twistedarrow3574 is it always running the same psi it takes to make 600hp? Ive seen these things run 600 for a while but you’ve gotta admit that is right on the ragged edge of breaking shit. I dont doubt they can take it but this guys saying it like “just 600hp” isnt pushing the fucking limits of those things to all hell
@@knowbull5hit590 it's a drag street car 600hp all day play or race 3 years no rebuild same block same head
I'm around 12 on my k24a. Was thinking of turning it up to 15 psi, Unfortunately at that level you have to worry about the transmission and whether it can handle it.
good job
Dear god please fire whoever welded that pipe for the wastegate 😂
I think its obvious from the turbo manifold that pretty welds are not top priority
Why? This is for testing purposes.
You should put the stock cams back in at some point
4:57 VTEC kicks in.. 😆
Time for a big bang on a ccta or cxcb Volkswagen
Hey, I live in Greece, and we don't get to have e85 fuel here, and we also don't get to have 300$ junkward ls. So I kinda want a k24a with a k20 performance vtec head. I'm planning to get to 600hp at the wheel, so I was thinking mathenol/ethenol. I also thought of autogas to help, sense it technical has more octanes than normal pump gas, but I haven't seen anyone use lpg. So my questions are: can I achieve 600 whp with meth/eth and is lpg a good option for octane
Wait ✋️ hold my Saki🍵. Did he say a K24 A2 on 7 psi,15 psi w/Skunk springs + cam kit + intake. Damn Nippons secret Mighty 🐁 Mouse keeps impressing me. I stumbled onto an 08 TSX w/ K24 A2 thinking it was a luxury civic gas saver ricer after CTS turtle 🐢 got totaled. The lil JDM is tough and I go everywhere in a flash. Though that combo is pricey if it got it to 400 hp econo-sleeper I would lose my marbles...
Would it be cheating if you put in a thicker head gasket when you do the ARP studs? Drop the comp a little.
@Richard Holdner with new oem or arp rod bolts you might just get 1000 hp for a couple pulls would do nice to do some king bearings too or at least new oem ones
STOP ALL THAT CRAZY TALK-STOCK BOTTOM END MEANS STOCK BOTTOM END-WITH RING GAP
@@richardholdener1727 yea but them rod bolts are now stretched and retorqued and won't hold up to what they would have brand new or before they were taken apart and retorqued 🤷. Still be interesting to see what it makes though. Most of these engines make a little over 600whp untouched and happy which is probably a little over 700hp at the crank. I bet it let's go at 760 to 780 crank hp with retorqued rod bolts. I know I'm busting ya balls on those rod bolts just always heard how reusing them in high performance builds isn't that prudent.
I believe you usually run a thermocouple for inlet temps .I'm wondering if you could show the before and after inlet temp comparison?
DID NOT HAVE THIS TIME
Still waiting on the EJ love Richard. Boost till she blows!
600 with no ring gap that sounds like it's pushing it but I guess one run at a time does not put near as much heat as on the street or track
Ring gapping stock JDM engines for more boost is not a common thing. The clearences are much more adequate for boost vs an LS chevy engine.
What cams are you using? I know you said skunk's but there are a few they offer.
honda nuff said.
Did you ever end up doing the big bang test on this motor? I still am really interested in seeing that!
not yet
Them k24s are no joke. Not my cup of tea, but definitely good motors
Even cast iron log exhaust manifolds can make a ton of power with boost. Big headers are nice and they do help but they're not absolutely nessisary. Look at all diesels running around making a bunch of power with some really terrible (much worse then this) exhaust manifolds.
Diesels have very efficient exhaust manifolds , others should learn from them.
@@V8Lenny
Efficient in terms of cost, longivity and reliability under harsh conditions, not so much in the performance airflow department.
@@177SCmaro even Mercedes F1 used log manifold before turbo rpm limit was added to rules. Fastest and strongest diesels on earth use log manifolds. Some tried fancy equal length manifokds years ago , now everyone is back to logs.
What oil filter are you running on that k24 it’s huge lol
I'd like to know if that intercooler was doing anything and perform a pull at the higher boost without it, and a pull with ice
Looks like he had Magic Shop Water hooked to it.
Yes can't wait to see it with the gt45 I think the turbo is holding it up. Oh shit not ring gap shame on you
These engine are too good.
they really are

TORCHES AND PITCHFORKS!
If your humble performance completely stock about 700hp......at the wheels with a 6266
Daanng I'm early. Making me want to do a k swap on an old British sports car. Whats the size comparison between this and an ls 🤔
K series is obviously not as wide, but it is a pretty tall motor.
@@MikeKraemer87 hmm cowl hood is often easier than squeezing in a v8 ill have to look up some dimensions. Rwd conversion probably not cheap though
Several MG guys swap in the 60 degree V6 out of a third-gen or early fourth-gen GM F-body. It's a happy middle ground between not as wide as a 90 degree V8 and not as tall as a K24. Also, they are cheap in the USA and have somewhat of an aftermarket. Plus, the later model front wheel drive cylinder heads are better flowing and aluminum.
@@wyattwunderlin4445 I just moved to uk otherwise I wouldn't dream of anything other than an ls. Have a 6.0l and a 5.3l back in the states and had a c5z. I'm real tempted to k swap a spitfire and do a BMW trans with some sort of rear end for drifting as they have crazy steering angle from factory
@@Coledini While the LS series is a good engine package, I still believe the chevy 60 degree engine is a better choice for a spitfire. A cast iron 5.3 (LM7) weighs about 520 Lbs, while a K24, according to Super Street weighs 405 Lbs. The factory 3.4, according to GM, weighs 364 Lbs with cast iron heads. With aluminum heads, the total weight drops to 340 lbs. The weight difference is something you would feel on the front end of a light car such as a spitfire or MGB.
What is the full turbo spec - eg 6260, 6262. What A/R turbine housing? Impressive so far
It looks like the A/R is .81
I DON'T KNOW FULL SPECS ON THE TURBO
turbo 4 banger :)
Looks like you're using E85?
That drop off at he top looks like valve control going away
Thanks einstein.
Considering its got decent valve springs I'd say it's far more likely its running out of turbine flow. Thats a small turbine for something that is able to make power to well over 8500rpm and is already making 600 much lower down
I'm thinking too much VTC angle up top. Looked like he said 30 degrees. Might try retarding some towards redline.
YES E85
WE TRIED LESS AND IT LOST POWER-IT FACT IT WANTED MORE THAN THE 25 DEGREE SPROCKET WOULD ALLOW
can we know more about the ignition timing
17 degrees under boost with e85
What is the ideal turbo for a k24? Id like to bwable to turn up to 700+hp but would like to beable to daily it at around 350-400ish hp... also wondering about what would be the right fuel setup
Just get two ebay turbos, with some good quality boost controllers and waste gates.
@@kensmechanicalaffair ebay isn't a size lol. My mr2 has a 3582 on it now and it's kinda too big takes a little too long to spool and makes way more power than I need usually
@@cyruslever586 I meant Gt45, so you make more than 700?
@@kensmechanicalaffair I make 450 on pump gas and its tuned to 750 on e85. Probably could get low 800s out of it. But right now I drive 99% of the time on pump gas and the 2200cc injectors are at like half a percent duty at idle. The ceramic ball bearing spools up ok but not fast. I honestly would prefer a smaller ball bearing turbo that has alot less lag that can run the same hp. 450hp in a 2200lb car makes me faster than just about everything. I'd like more usable instant power for cruising and twisties but with an option to fill with e85 and turn up to 750hp and do drag race mode. But in reality 750hp is way too much in this car for the street on street tires. Mostly I just want to know or say it can do it. I'm not really going to a prepped track or running slicks. And 450hp is bonkers fast
Richard if you're not aware check out the guys from PFI speed on UA-cam. Brent is a massive Honda guy
I'M FAMILIAR-BRENT DOES GOOD STUFF
I don’t know jack about Honda stuff but I’m really enjoying this series. Why go with a JDM version? I thought the K24 came in a slew of US vehicles?
CHEAPER TO FIND
The K24A3 is very popular in the Accord Euro in Japan, Australia and NZ (an Acura TSX is essentially the same car). Also, the Honda Odyssey in Japan usually have a K24 and not the J series V6 like they do in the USA. So there's thousands and thousands of good engines around. You can pick up a K24 for about US$500 here in NZ all day.
Did u do a ring gap on this also
MOON TUNE, BIG BANG K20!!!
What is the fuel system set up for this set up?
Why not make the exhaust plumbing longer so customers in the front of the shop can look onto the compressorwheel while Richard is testing in the dyno cell.....
Just kidding....hahaha
Holy shit those welds😂
they held
