Definitely the top best Ted talk regarding relationships I've EVER seen. I'M SO GLAD I HAD THIS recomended.. THIS IS WHAT REAL LOVE IS ALL ABOUT. The pain is unimaginable to imagine. My gosh.. for both of them. Applause, applause..
Im in tears. They came to my school when i was 16, i remember watching a documentary about them and being in awe of their unconditional love for each other. Just incredible people..... my role models.
Cliona, I am so sorry I am only seeing this now. I came to watch my talk back before speaking to 1,000 16 year olds tomorrow and your comment has helped with how I hold this responsibility. I hope that life almost ten years on is going well for you. Thank you for this and such a welcome to your school when we were still figuring things out. x
They are both equally articulate in relaying such a heart wrenching story of hope - such respect between them and a beautiful love.. wishing them everything good.
I just have to say.you to are the most beautiful couple ever, and so inspiring. I wish more people could share your courage and strength. My wife just passed away August 18th. but when she was by my side she made me feel invincible!!! .She battled stage 4 metastatic breast cancer almost 3 years guess what I'm saying IS there is something purely magical when a couple truly love each other.
@@andriipopovich6704 I haven't seen 50 Shades, but I have seen the Twilight series. I am older and expected it to be a pretty shallow YA soap that I wouldn't finish, but I was actually impressed at how good the story ended up being!
Great talk. Inspiring! This is true love. And the better side of humanity. Thank you for sharing your journey. I took care of my Husband when he got cancer. I was amazed by how many people abandon loved ones when hard times fall on us.

Really and truly beautiful, a powerful story of hope and love. Thank you for the courage you bring to the world, may everyone who needs to see this TED talk. From one realist optimist to another keep going! Much love, Fiona
This ted talk needs more recognition because the message they are conveying is everything the world needs right now: love, resilience and the real meaning of life
You only capitalise a noun if there's only one of that thing. Medical advances and sight are general concepts, and everybody's got a spinal cord. I'm with you in your optimism.
Beautiful and inspiring. I love science too. The Intelligence coupled with such passion and commitment is what will advance the Human Race and save the future for our heirs.
I have never met Mark Pollock, I have only watched on from afar over the years, his talks, his appearances on national television, and most recently himself and partner Simone Ted Talk, and without fail every time I listen to Mark he makes me as a person living with a disability feel, like a hindrance and a burden to society. Mark is adamant on finding a cure for paralysis, he is putting every ounce of his existence into finding a cure, and of course this is all his choice to do so, his trust fund raises millions of dollars per year and pumps it into finding a cure that might never be, furthermore it may not be available to people who are from different classes of upbringing, not everybody has access to millions of dollars. In his latest talk they use a quote from Christopher Reeves, who once stated, “he dreamed of a world with empty wheelchairs”, this I found ridiculously offensive and disrespectful, as if to use it as a parallel comment to Superman, to make a stronger case to the point. The tone of this talk insinuated that everybody is or should be looking for a ‘cure’ or even that he is here to the rescue, all of this is deeply hurtful to me and many other wheelchair users who use there wheelchairs as enablers, who use them to achieve life goals, ambition, and relationships. I personally have achieved a lot of things in my life, and I am very grateful to the wheelchair and would literally be lost without it, its gets me everywhere, it got me to travel the world, it got me to win trophies in Basketball, got me to represent my country in Powerlifting and Rugby, so when I hear people’s reactions to pieces like Marks, it gives them more ammunition for the “poor them” perception they already have for disabled people, it does nothing in our fight for equality in this country, simply put, it is the wrong message to put out, when this Ted Talk was published we had a who’s who of Irish socialites eulogising it as an inspirational story and look, maybe it is to some, none of them however are living with a disability and none of them fully understand how insulting their comments are to a cohort of people with physical disabilities. 60 million people in the world are paralysed, when people like Mark Pollock are giving a huge platform like he has, the message needs to be different, and the message needs to be that you are worth your life, you can achieve things, and it needs to be positive. “With enough of the right people having the will to make it happen, we will change the lives of the 60 million people”, is a quote from Marks website, how on earth does he know 60 million people want their life changed, I can only assume I am in that number and I can confirm I would change nothing in my life, I only dream of a world where people with all types of disability are treated equally and have the opportunity to realise their full potential as equal citizens whilst living with their disability.
To sum it up they took upon the interesting question face by us in everyday life I.e to be an optimist or a realist? Cuz it's difficult to hope for the best, on one hand, imagining the best outcome while seeing the worst standing by and not get disappointed. While to be a realist, to see the suffering as it is, the vulnerability and terror of life is too heavy of a burden to carry, and for what? If not hope? I think what they tried to mention is the balance between the two, looking at things as what they are and then taking a leap to make it less wore, more bearable. It's all about art of acceptance, whether its paralysing fear of death or impermanence of every second, and then moving with it, making it a bit better, to whatever extent we can.

Not excactly correct.. It's a citation by Viktor Frankl which has come from a bigger sentence of Niezsche that goes further than that.
