Wow, two men meeting, both at their wits end for different reasons. Richard walking into that roadway with the full understanding that he was either gonna save a man's life or lose his own trying, yet he pressed forward and stood firm. The weight of his compassion and love for his fellow man halted a fire truck in it's tracks, made a crazed man realize his mistakes and surrender peacefully. Much respect Marine o7
he still has the true marine mentality! putting his own life in harms way to save others. that is why he, and so many of us go into the military, he went to serve this country and still is, in that life, one goes into battle knowing that they may not come back, but they go anyway, knowing that ever so much may be at stake, knowing at the time that thier full mortality may be at stake, not at all worried that the life they save may be thier own, in that moment, they feel more alive than at any other time in thier entire life, knowing that it may all be gone in an instant, is he then a hero? the average person would say yes, the military trained mentality says no, and he truly feels that no, he is not, he is indifferent to that feeling, he did not want to see others possibly get hurt, he protected them with his own life, he knew full well what the cost would be, but did it anyway, the man driving the fire truck had decent morals and respect for life, so he did not run richard down, so richard saved the drivers, and others lives, and spared the common taxpayers the cost of paying for new fire apparatus. he deserves thanks, but much more than that, as a fellow veteran deserves NOT TO BE IN THE STREET! one goes in the service, hears no man left behind, richard selflessly stood by that motto and did NOT let the driver be left behind, point being, he felt he was doing his own civil service by doing what he did, no man left behind, but yet the country we served leaves so MANY of us behind, AND DOES NOT CARE ONE BIT, if it were not for good parents, i would have still been there, i'm 100% now, but this is NOT ABOUT ME GIVE HIM A HOME ! Only a Marine would be bad ass enough to step up and calm down a young man in a very bad situation. No job teaches you that. No money teaches you that. Kind of heartbreaking, the dead stare the driver had in his eyes. In that moment, in his mind, he had nothing left to lose. But he didn’t have the heart to hurt a stranger, and the stranger knew that. We could learn something from this.
I completely agree!!! You can see the hurt and defeat in that young man’s eyes. Ppl have to understand depression can make you do crazy things. Simply because they feel they have nothing to live for. @Pat-Anno It is quite easy: 1) per monetized resource spent, cost. Fire truck: $ 1/4 - 6 mln. Average American: $1 to few mln. 2) Value: Firetruck: at least as its cost (must cover expenses through service lifespan by saving more resources than self-cost). Homeless elderly man: likely a negative value / social burden. Has been once discarded by "society" as bringing more trouble than good / "underperformer" / etc. "Money is a fiction" but energy and materials are not. A dude with absolutely nothing on is willing to stand in front of a giant fire truck and here’s a whole squadron of dudes armed to the teeth with body armor and multiple weapons and dogs and everyone’s scared.
The man that stood in front of the firetruck is very humble, he has a good heart. 🙏🏾 He shouldn't be living on the streets, I pray he gets some help.
Much respect Marine o7
he still has the true marine mentality! putting his own life in harms way to save others.
that is why he, and so many of us go into the military, he went to serve this country and still is,
in that life, one goes into battle knowing that they may not come back, but they go anyway, knowing that ever so much may be at stake, knowing at the time that thier full mortality may be at stake, not at all worried that the life they save may be thier own, in that moment, they feel more alive than at any other time in thier entire life, knowing that it may all be gone in an instant,
is he then a hero? the average person would say yes, the military trained mentality says no, and he truly feels that no, he is not, he is indifferent to that feeling,
he did not want to see others possibly get hurt, he protected them with his own life, he knew full well what the cost would be, but did it anyway, the man driving the fire truck had decent morals and respect for life, so he did not run richard down, so richard saved the drivers, and others lives, and spared the common taxpayers the cost of paying for new fire apparatus.
he deserves thanks, but much more than that, as a fellow veteran deserves NOT TO BE IN THE STREET! one goes in the service, hears no man left behind, richard selflessly stood by that motto and did NOT let the driver be left behind, point being, he felt he was doing his own civil service by doing what he did, no man left behind,
but yet the country we served leaves so MANY of us behind,
AND DOES NOT CARE ONE BIT,
if it were not for good parents, i would have still been there, i'm 100% now, but this is NOT ABOUT ME
GIVE HIM A HOME ! GET HIM OFF THE STREET!
It really shows bravery and courageousness could come from anywhere at any point in time

Well said. 😀
Worthless police department
Only a Marine would be bad ass enough to step up and calm down a young man in a very bad situation. No job teaches you that. No money teaches you that. That is taught through serving country and others fully hearted. Imagine all the Vets on the streets. Very hard to become a civilian after seeing and serving in places like hell on earth. All respect.
Its taught by serving your country?
@@israelg1214 since most other Americans (well, most people for that matter) are too weak to stand up for anybody besides themselves, yes I would say service to the country teaches you that. somebody could be getting beat up on the street and 99 out of 100 people will walk by with their head held high.
@@israelg1214 I'm not a big fan of that Qanon bs, but their motto encompasses what this man did. Where we go [as] one, we go all. You can only learn that in the Armed Forces of the United States 🇺🇸. Kind of heartbreaking, the dead stare the driver had in his eyes. In that moment, in his mind, he had nothing left to lose. But he didn’t have the heart to hurt a stranger, and the stranger knew that. We could learn something from this.
Yes we could
I completely agree!!! You can see the hurt and defeat in that young man’s eyes. Ppl have to understand depression can make you do crazy things. Simply because they feel they have nothing to live for. I normally don’t feel bad for ppl, as in criminals. But this young man needs help. I hope the judge can realize that too… so heartbreaking.
Couldn't agree more. That driver was in a bad place! Incredible to think the driver had enough of himself present to not want to hurt anyone. Makes me think he's a genuinely good guy who's mental state took a turn for the worse. I really hope he gets help. It's FIREFIGHTER!!!
This Homeless man deserve something what he did is so heroic, saving a life and he is also a veteran. Please, the city of garden grove should do something for him.
If he was a smart thief, he would run the fire trucks lights and siren to make people get out of the way
Probably didn’t know how to activate them
He looks homeless, he was just looking for 3 hots and a cot.
Have you ever seen how much there is on the dash of one of those trucks?? Just driving is enough to do.
I’m amazed he found the parking brake. They only have R-N-D and two arrows up and down for the shifter.
Pretty cool
We love you Richard. What a kind soul.
This guy deserves a medal, home, job. I nerver saw that before, what a great man.
This is something he should get rewarded for! He's a true hero, either way Richard great job!
