  • Why GT7 PSVR2 Users should NOT be Happy about PSVR2 PC Support - A Sim Racers Opinion - In this video I will give my opinion and thoughts about PSVR2 becoming PC compatible. I will be discussing this topic only as it pertains to sim racing and not other uses or games for VR. VR is the only way that I sim race on PS5 as well as PC and I think this move for PC compatibility is going to really hurt the console sim racing VR community.

I play high-end PC VR With a Pimax 8kx hardcore sim racing but I love GT7 with the PSVR2 It's very well done and it's a great Sim. I don't care what people say they're all Sims. Don't let PC nerds say otherwise they're all just Sim games.

GT7 is simcade, and I say that as a PS5 owner who plays GT7. It's nowhere near a full sim as the physics are not fully simulated. GT7 was made primarily for the Dual Sense controller, which is what the majority play GT7 with.

No. They're not all sims. It's not snobbery it's pure facts. They're all racing games. Gt7 is not a sim game. It's a very good game, that doesn't mean it qualifies for the title of sim. Let's call a spade an actual spade. Not all games have to be sim. In fact only a handful actually are.

    • @frankzappa2274

Haha They are all just really sim games. Look at I racing It has the most rudimentary physics engine and only really simulates torque at 60 HZ. If you want to get technical, ams2 probably has the most sophisticated physics (but no one wants to hear that lol). Maybe it's not the best Sim but even GT7 is a Sim whether you like it or not. at least it's actually fun as well.

Just like you I invested in PSVR2 for GT7 that’s really the only game that really took immersion to the next level. I just hope PD doesn’t abandon the VR community. What PD did with GT7 was incredible and the VR /GT community more of it.

To be 100% honest there really isn’t much to be done as an update the only update I can think of is a leaderboard. Maybe a way to adjust the seating position, other than that they did a great job. I would have assumed PD would have been at least reading forums or looking at people’s reviews on UA-cam or anywhere else to know what the players want. I think PD will not give up on VR because look at what there doing with sophy they really don’t need to spend so much money and time to create more challenging AI especially since GT is mostly played online against other players. I think they are wanting to give the best experience. At least that’s what I tell myself to feel better about GT games.😂

Well, I just bought a PS5 slim with GT7 and went back for the PSVR2 because I was impressed by GT7 on a flat screen, and I missed OLED from going from the OG Vive to the Vive Pro 2. Since the PSVR2 is basically the Vive Pro 2 done right and PC compatibility was coming I took the plunge.

      How you liking it?

    • @LogiForce86
      @LogiForce86 Місяць тому +4

@@thecasualracinggamer I am loving it at least on PS5. I keep catching myself running into great looking cars during a race and hanging back as a result.
Having the diamond pentile OLED display back (as the original Vive had one too) is a blessing, especially at this resolution. Not only for the obvious deep blacks during night driving and not having to stare into the grey fog that a backlight causes, but also for anti-aliasing. Here is why that is.
The alignment of the subpixels in a straight pattern as on a normal display, or like with the Vive Pro 2, is great for displaying straight horizontol and verticle lines without a trapezium effect. However if the line is drawn like a road or barrier along the track to the horizon, and thus isn't in line with the subpixel lay-out, than you suddenly get the trapezium or aliasing effect.
Any anti-aliasing technique tries to blur the lines the subpixels have to draw, and thus also blurs the image. However, with the diamond pentile subpixel lay-out the lines drawn for most 3D games fall more in line with the layout and thus cause for far less aliasing issues. Meaning that you can get away with not running any anti-aliasing or supersampling at all, and you have a sharper non-blurred picture.
The only downside of OLED is the Mura (or the RGB looking static) that you sometimes can see. However, it is for me a non issue and will only improve with higher resolution displays. Or by layering oled subpixels in such a way that they compliment each other to draw a more even colored picture in certain situations.
Apart from that the haptic feedback in the headset is a great bonus effect for thos impacts.
The headset button should be programmable to a headset position reset button in my opinion, even if it is as a double tap or long hold secondary option. Using the menu button on the controller to reset it also brings up the menu and thus pausing the game, when sometimes you simply want a quick adjust on the fly.
That said I am truly surprised by the tracking, as it is really good. Yet annoying that it resets each time a race starts and sometimes you just shifted your head and the seating position is off again. Hence the desperate need for that physical button.
The biggest gripe I have is on my own end to be honest. I got the Podium DD2 instead of the playstation compatible DD1. So now I am stuck with a controller as I am not willing to fork out another 1000 and have a 1500 euro paperweight since I only have room for one sim rig.
But the controller control has definitely improved since my last GT6 PS3 experience. Albeit that I only had the Sixaxis controllers without feedback with it. So the PS5 controller is definitely a big improvement in giving feedback and control, especially since the PS3 triggers were bent the wrong way around in my opinion.
Anyway, that is my quick review. 😉

Is there no third-party device you can get to maybe get your wheel to work with PS5? I know it's possible for some other wheels but not really sure what works and what doesn't.

Sony isn’t washing their hands. Lots of psvr2 users wanted PC support to to expand the available library and also open the door for indie developers to make games with PSVR2 in mind. VR is still a pretty niche subset. Expanding the usability of the headset is just a smart move. Think Sony games on PC, it doesn’t mean Sony is abandoning PS5.

Sony are absolutely washing their hands of PSVR2. No 1st party PSVR2 games announced at State of Play, only 3rd party ones that are both going to PCVR as well. I have a PS5 but I never bothered with PSVR2 because it's too expensive, I was waiting to see if the price dropped , which has resulted in me being able to see how well Sony have supported it.
Their support has been nothing short of abysmal, especially when you look at what Meta has done with Quest (Batman Arkham Shadow being a Quest 3 exclusive being a prime example).

I don't think developers who develop PCVR games will be any more inclined to develop VR games for PS5 with Sony releasing the headset on PC. This move by Sony isn't growing the PS5 PSVR2 user base, so why would developers be interested in going there? This move would be growing the PCVR user base.

Sorry messaging as I'm watching, apparently there is hardly any games on steam VR that will support the eye tracking, haptic feedback etc so the Devs would have to go back and add it all in I think, that's why they didn't bother.. that and the fact they will always make sure playstation is the best place to play PSVR2.. I think this is more for people like yourself who have a good enough pc and can get a bit extra... Maybe also people who have pc and ps5 and can now go out and get 1 headset too. They are putting a fair bit into titles in general but I hear what you are saying on the SIM side.. but to be honest there is only I racing and ACC that would come close to the mark.. the I racing will never be on console and the console version of ACC isn't the same as PC one either.. I don't think there is a big enough player base on ACC console version to warrant the work to go into that..

iRacing is one of the easier ones to get going due to its older graphics, but there are still a lot of settings to play with when you are trying to push your headset to the max. Then, with the headset, you can adjust the bitrate and the Hz. So there are a ton of combinations to play with, and it will be different for everyone's system.

There are more than a few other vr games that have very good immersion with VR headsets. No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous, several air combat games, music games like beat saber, they even have a game that the sole purpose is to cater to the PSVR2, Astro Bot. As far as Sony and the poor PSVR2 sales, well it cost as much for the psvr2 as it does for the console. One of the big draws to console is you can do it much cheaper than PC and games purchased for the console, you are almost 100% guaranteed that the software will work on the console. With the added cost of the PSVR2 and controllers, you are now into PC cost ranges.
PCs can become out of date really quickly. There are games today that are PC, but when those games came out, 5 to 10 years ago, no one had a machine that could run them on max settings. With PC, you are required to buy new equipment or a whole new pc at least 1 time in a 2 year stretch. Equipment that costs as much or more as a console. PS5 is already 4 years old and except maybe upgrading your storage ssd, there is no requirement for upgrade to play games released in 2024. PS4/4Pro lasted 7 years.
That aside, Sony is under pressure from the market to become more pc friendly. Expanding their market to include pc support is only natural. It's not on Sony to limit their device to console and restrict it's sales. It's also not on Sony to build support for PSVR2 into their games. They make the device, the dev studios have to figure out how to maximize. I can say this. The CEO of Polyphony Digital, AKA GT7 dev studio, has said that VR will remain a goal in GT7 and beyond. GT Sport, GT7's predecessor, had VR but only in solo play. GT7 added multiplay VR capability. I expect there will be more as we see GT7 updates and the release of the whispered GT8, which I understand will not be supported on PS4 at all. So we can expect other kinds of performance enhancements like 20 or 24 racers in a lobby.

you are very incorrect about having to update in 1 to 2 years. maybe 4 to 5 years, sure even then its mostly just the gpu that needs to upgraded. my 8 year old 4790k/1080ti build, still get used. i play alan wake 2 on it and cyberpunk while waiting for a psu for my 14900k/4090 build. and i played a lot of asseto in vr with the cv1 on it.
that doesnt mean the plug and play nature of ps5 and xsx is bad, i play my vr2 with gt7 all the time. and the screen on the vr2 looks better than my index, but not the graphic quality. issues do arise at times, but not all the time i havent change the settings on assetto in over 2 years.
the vr2 specific features not being on pc isnt a big deal imo, my index was 1100, i cant use hdr on it, it doesnt have eyetracking, and still look great i never had any complaints. now vr2 extra features on ps5 is cool, but why would any dev add some ps5 features to games not even on ps5. and only works on 1 headset.
now my q3 i dont like how it looks wired the compression hurts it. vr2 would beat it imo, it wont have that issue. and with a high end gpu, your just going to upscale and get a great exp.

For Sim Racing or any game that requires you to be sitting in VR, you can't beat a display port connection. This is exactly what put me off sim racing. 15 Years ago I bough a basic seat and rig with,T500RS, H- Pattern Shifter, pedals and a single buttkicker. Seting up all the PC sims with Simhub and everything was pretty complex and time consuming. Then I sat down to play Iracing and found it boring. I put everything in storage and didnt touch it again.
15 years later in late 2021. I simply plugged my old pedal and wheel into my PS4 fired up Gran Turismo Sport and it all just worked no mess no fuss. Ive since went on to build a very expensive rig & PC with 4 buttkickers and VR. But I give full credit to the simplicity of Playstation getting me back into Sim Racing.
Gran Turismo still has a special place in my heart. And since getting my Quest 3 I cant stop racing. Planning to get PSVR2 & a PS5 soon after I relocate.

the only reason to constantly change stuff is trying to play games at settings above what your pc can do. even the changing stuff by just pick low med high etc is simple and shouldnt take hours.
pc is not a guessing game, either a lil research with a bugdet in mind will get you exactly the exp you want or can afford.

They use same lens quest 3, but are a little bit better imo at half the cost and more, They lack games in store and support. Why they are cheap. Great for pcvr and wireless pcvr ganing. I'll buy a pico 5 when it comes out. While store a bit crap, i dont regret buying pico 4. Really good headset for pc. Unlike meta you dont need a pc to do shit. On quest you need side quest, on pico you can download fikes directly to the headset. Its a paradise for weird stuff like playing on my ps or xbox on it lol.
