I'm almost 65 and have been fishing pretty much all my life. Without a doubt, this is the most intelligent bass fishing video I've ever seen on UA-cam!
I kinda lack that when it comes to various lures, Ive basically only caught bass with t rigs and lately idk if i suck, if theres super low bass population here in louisville, kentucky or theyve just seen everything t rig in there face and have been too pressured to bite
Ive heard that too and I’ve always noticed that if i ever stop spending my time the whole trip tying on new lures and different colors, i start catching fish on the lures that i throw the most persistently. I couldn’t catch on a wacky rig when i first started throwing it, cause i wouldn’t throw it for more than 10 minutes. Confidence and patience are siblings when it comes to fishing
It is so rare for an accomplished pro fisherman to care enough about his followers/audience to choose to tell the truth about lure selection instead of just talking about his sponsors products. Thank you, Tyler!
I’m slowly coming around to this mind set. It’s hard not to try all the cool lures in your box that you have spent a ton of money on. It’s also disheartening and enlightening at the same time when your most productive lure is pitching a .49 cent black and blue Berkley pit boss.
Great advice. Picked up fishing 4/5 years ago, after watching UA-cam ended up with a bunch of different lures. Fast forward to present, I’m selling boxes and bags of baits. Last year I had an outing fishing a swim jig. I had it “figured out” the right jig and trailer. Well I ran out the trailer and all I had in my bag were stick baits. Cut one down, started swimming the jig and kept on catching. Changed my whole approach. I only go with confidence baits now in 3 base colors.
Tyler, I have fished for forty years. i have read magazines and books about fishing. But I have learned more watching your videos than any other resource. Please keep the great videos coming. I know you have done this in the past; however, perhaps you can spend future videos discussing a specific type of lure and how to most effectively fish them. Also, as a collector of vintage fishing tackle, it would be interesting to hear about using lures that have been around for decades that still work. A friend of mine was recently fishing a lake in east-central Michigan and had good luck using Little Cleos and Johnson Silver Minnow Spoons; two lures that have been around for almost 100 years.
Agreed 100%!!!! While seeking out where the fish are hanging out, it's always a good practice to use what you are most confident with that will cover a fair amount of water. Once there, pretty much everything will work if applicable to the conditions (depth being the primary factor). I was out on the kayak today on the local river, and once I located the fish, I caught Smallies with every single bait I had tied (three different soft & slow variations, one soft paddle tail, and a Whopper Plopper 60). Any one of the baits would have worked all day long once I got fish-adjacent). Nice work, Tyler!
Its more about finding the areas with fish and then picking whatever bait you can effectively present in those areas. Throw something similar to what you think they are eating in a color that kinda makes sense based on water color etc and you should get em.
I'm really simplified my bait selection and color. Has made a ton of difference in efficiency. There's a reason why there is thousands of fishing lures. A soft plastic will catch fish. A hard bait that wiggles. Will catch fish.. fishing is simple
Sounds like you are a proponent of the k.i.s.s. method of fishing. This is a really awesome method of fishing or pretty much anything else in life. If you are going to be successful at fishing, you MUST be within a single cast length of the fish you are trying to catch. This is as true as true can get. Mastering the fundamentals is the key to achieving success. In anything. Great advice, Tyler. Thanks. 👍🇺🇸
This is so true, I caught myself when spring hit just basically trying too hard, way overthinking everything. It was frustrating when I realized it, lol, I reached down and tossed just an old school worm I learned on and first cast. “Keep it simple stupid”.
It’s hard not to buy all the up to date lures just to try out. But it always seems like I always end up going back to my confidence lures that I know will catch fish.
When you started the video I thought this youngster is talking out the side of his mouth. After listening further I thought this kids pretty sharp and knows what he’s talking about. Thanks
Just use a lure that u have confidence in.. I dont fish for bass (eu) but on pike i fish a lot of the same baits.. Mostly covering a lot of water.. its about finding the areas that contain fish.. the lure isnt that important. If i find a hot spot i might go back and throw another bait.. it isnt that deep.. I never keep more then 5 baits with me.
Ty what would ytou do if you didnt have confidence with any lure, Ive caught prolly 20 bass on other peoples poles, and like 2 on my own, and I have no idea what I was even using
I can’t believe how much money I spent on crank baits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, chatter baits, 12 different varieties of one hook style and all the rest of it, and I catch the vast majority of my fish on a wacky jig and a bag of plastic worms.
Hooked is hooked I’m not about wasting time wondering if they hit it good enough just pick your favorite bait and go you will catch more fish than trying to outsmart them all
Hey Tyler do you like the Spro Chad shad as well as your Storm Arashi glide? I know they have a little different action but I was just wondering what you think between the two.
Had a buddy that smoked camel cigarettes back when they gave you camel bucks for smoking their cigarettes. They sent him a lure that looked like the camel on the front of the pack.. HE Tore the bass up with it.
I know yall ohio people go crazy over bourbons at your state stores, also my dude ty, Id love to pair up wtih you and finnfishing, me and my dad run a small printshop in clarksville indiana, we do shirts for all types of businesses sports and even galen nursing all over the states! I aint trying to step on your partners toes don't know exactly how you all run this together but I guarantee I can beat prices and we ship aswell!!
Fish eat fish. Use a lure that looks like an easy to get fish and bingo.youll catch fish.dont fall for marketing hype. Day in and day outlive bait on a hook or jig outfishes most lures consistently. Why bother carrying most that other "just in case" gear when its rarely if ever used?.....

Amen brother
I fylly agree. Stunning video and so true...
Like Bill Dance always said “The number one lure in your tackle box is confidence”. Good stuff man!🤙

Really appreciate your honesty and the breakdown of the thought process - we can all learn from this. Thanks!

Great advice Tyler!! You’re 100% correct.

Great timing. My brother and I were just talking about this topic last night. Thanks and well said!
Agreed, have to be on fish to catch fish 🎣 with confidence in yourself

Exactly!! Just fish.

I think i needed to hear that today been getting skunked past few weeks so thanks man
Great thoughts, Tyler! 👌🙌
Man you be dropping some real gems!🎣💪🏽🎣💪🏽

While most people dream of a fishing trip where five-plus-pounders devour your bait two out of three casts, it would get boring after a while.
Honestly it would , the challenge is a big part of it , but sometimes it can be a little to challenging 😂
Excellent video! Thank you from a new subscriber
Keep it simple is what ur saying thank you Tyler
Agreed!
The most important thing is right place right time.
When you started the video I thought this youngster is talking out the side of his mouth. After listening further I thought this kids pretty sharp and knows what he’s talking about. Thanks
do expensive rods catch more bass?

I’m moving towards simplicity just not quite there yet. Thanks for reinforcing this concept. Like anything else KISS( keep it simple dummy).
I can’t believe how much money I spent on crank baits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, chatter baits, 12 different varieties of one hook style and all the rest of it, and I catch the vast majority of my fish on a wacky jig and a bag of plastic worms.
Same here 100%.

Tyler, is BFS fishing worth the money invested?
Hey Tyler do you like the Spro Chad shad as well as your Storm Arashi glide? I know they have a little different action but I was just wondering what you think between the two.
They are definitely different baits. I like both of them. Both are very inexpensive for what they can do
You can only improve upon feedback, not what you think works.
I love my bass hat
Yes sir, its more about location than your lure.
Shhhh don’t tell my wife that😂
True hahaha
Had a buddy that smoked camel cigarettes back when they gave you camel bucks for smoking their cigarettes. They sent him a lure that looked like the camel on the front of the pack.. HE Tore the bass up with it.
Lmao. I know. I saw a video on UA-cam that showed a kid put a dead, brown fallen leaf on a bare hook and caught a bass on first cast!
