- One of the most gorgeous songs ever. It is NOT, however, Florida State's alma mater (which is unfortunate). This is a bad recording, but I work with what I have :)
Here's the lyrics:
Here's a hymn to the Garnet and the Gold,
ringing to the sky.
Here's a song for the men and women bold.
Sing with heads held high.
Striving ere to seek to know,
Fight for victory.
Alma Mater, this our song to you.
Echoes, F.S.U.
First time I heard it was on hold with the registrars office. My son is an alum. This was the best hold music I’ve ever heard!
as a Gator, I have to admit this is the only other alma mater I like listening to. There, I said it!
FSU has been my dream school since forever and I got accepted 🥺 I can’t wait to sing this
Almost cried at graduation when this was played. Boy do I love FSU. Class of 2010.
All you have to do is stick around after the game. Marching Chiefs sings it every time.
Charlie Carter gave us a great gift with this arrangement.
this will be my last year at FSU and in Chiefs. it's always been an emotional song for me but now it truly brings me to tears every time.
It's been 37 years since I was an FSU student and I, too, get a lump in my throat -- and my eyes start to water. I wish this was the Alma Mater!
Class of 2012 here. I cry like a baby.
My son is a 2016 Marching Chief and I swell with pride when I watch the band perform this! MCATDT!!
I love you FSU. When I here this I feel so much pride and I tear up!
They always sing it at graduation.. it is pure MAGIC when the entire audience and graduates are all singing as one..
Nole forever!! Nothing better than being in the Doak after a win and hearing this song. Go Noles!!
When the Chiefs play this at the Prism concert, I cry ...and I didn't even go to FSU!
Tears me up every time I hear it. Every time. Can't hear it enough.
I'm not a Chief at FSU but I am a music major and this song does give me chillbumps!!! Go Chiefs!! :D
Thirty years later and it still gives me goosebumps.
Me, tooooo!
I am not a chief. I first heard this song before I even stepped foot to FSU and even sang along when they played it at convocation. It's about to be my third year now and this song just keeps me in perspective. It's great to look back on how much pride and expectations this song gave me of FSU.
My first year here and I already cry when I listen to it.
I agree that it's unfortunate this is not the alma mater. I've never cared much for the alma mater, which sounds pretty generic to me. This song is great.
This hymn is amazing indeed. Thank you Charlie Carter!
Agreed. The hymn is awesome!
This is my favorite FSU song. I live in Kentucky now. I will always ,over my Noles
Amen to that. If EVER a song deserved to be a college alma mater this is absoLUTEly it, period.....
Absolutely 100% concur. One of my best memories of collegians with Krehbiel, rest his soul, & Victor Klimash!
I sang this and High O'er the Towering Pines when I was in Women's Glee at FSU. This is definitely the superior song.
I love FSU with all of my heart.
FSU 45 - Miami 17
Great night to be a Seminole!
I know I've constantly rambled about how they Hymn should be sung by the entire stadium the same way UT sings the Eyes of Texas, but I can't stress it enough. C'mon people! It needs to happen!
Or like ohio states Alma mater
The most moving college song ever heard. "Here Come the Irish" might be more powerful vocally, but this one has a subtlety that outmatches the ND theme.
Most years they actually don't put the hymn on the CD. It takes a lot of time to get the band to actually sound good enough to record - it is 4 part harmony after all!
Cannot hear it without a longing for my days at FSU.
this my jam!
As a Navy Fan This is a Beautiful Song Even Though It's Not The Alma Mater For Florida State Which Sucks!
For those pointing out that it's a shame this ISN'T the Alma-Mater I will point out the Alma-Mater is still better than most schools's Alma-Mater, Especially the Charlie Carter Arrangment of it. While it's not as pretty as the hymn, the hymn doesn't have to be the Alma Mater. FSU has the best songs imho bar none.
awesome! be prepared for some wonderful years ahead of you :)
and if you can, you should join the marching chiefs. absolutely the greatest experience of my life.
FSU the land of garnet and gold. May your noble deeds continue to touch all posterity.
I graduated in 1964 and still think of my 4 years at FSU as 4 of the best years in my life!
Not a choir. This song is sung by the Marching Chiefs at the end of every game. That being said, you could try to band office to get a CD. This song is normally included.
beautiful song, greatly under used. never hear it.
@miaminole2010 you already know greatest feeling ever
Charlie Ward's alma mater.
MCATDT!
4 people are gators BOO
@CEat10 LOLOL me too
Not sure if trolling...or unaware that UT can also stand for the University of Texas.
