I recently started to crochet a blanket for the first time and was looking for a simple border. I’m so glad I found this one, you explained it very nicely. Thank you so much !!
THANK YOU! Oh man, I am learning how to make my first blanket, and this is the first video I have watched that I can follow and dosent make me cry. ❤❤❤
@@WindingRoadCrochet I follow you on IG, but never thought about UA-cam. I picked up some cotton to use for dishcloths tonight using that stitch. I need to go through all of your videos now lol.
I started another border on my blanket, then I found this one. I took those stitches out (2 rows all the way around) and started this one. It's perfect and exactly the look I wanted on my basket weave blanket. Thank you!
Very good visuals, very concise explanations. This was exactly what I was looking for to give a nice finish to an afghan knit in squares and sewn together.
I am beginner, having crocheted only 3 baby blankets and was looking for a boarder of all that is simple and attractive. Your tutorial was nicely presented, easy to follow and want to thank you for introducing me to this new stitch. It did take a bit of practice to get the hang of the pulling of the 2nd to last yarn around and figured out the importance of swiveling the crochet hook while pulling, which helped increase accuracy and speed.... love how it looks, great boarder choice!
Thanks for this tutorial; I’m making a border on a throw blanket with this stitch and it is great - adds a nice, finished touch. The stitch was very easy to learn, and the width of the border is flexible - I’m making three rounds for my throw and am really pleased with how it is turning out.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I've been able to make blankets for decades but have never been able to figure out borders (esp corners). I'm going to try this on my current blanket WIP.
So clear and concise I’m excited to try this! Once I master the basic double half double crochet I’m gonna give this a try! This def makes going from knitting to crocheting so much easier for me!
I found this video yesterday while looking for a border for my buffalo plaid with a buck head afghan...this border was PERFECT! I put 2 rows on and it looks like it was part of the original pattern. You were correct, it's awkward at first, but after a few stitches it becomes easy. Thank you for this video. You have a new subscriber!!
Love this!!! You were so clear!!! Thank you so much for making it easy!!! Prefect timing too as I had just finished making a blanket for a very dear friend and was looking for a border... have a blessed day!!!
I am glad you like my work. I am really trying to make a video for every new pattern and I like to keep my patterns pretty simple. If something looks complex, check out the video anyway because I bet the pattern is easier than you think.
It took me a couple of rows to get use to the stitch pattern. Muscle memory want to do a double crochet, but after a couple rows, muscle memory is now complete for this stitch.
Thank you for sharing the herringbone double crochet stitch. It was very easy for me to follow the step action so thank you again because I am new to crocheting, but I think I got a little bit confused at the first corner with the herringbone double crochet and completing it with the slip stitch. At that point, I chain one and started the pattern from the very beginning. Did I do that, right?
This is beautiful but how can i keep the corner edges straight - i seem to get one more stitch each side each round. Should mt stitch count stay the same as my sc first row?
No you are adding extra stitches in the corner. Each corner should have 3 stitches so are increasing. You are increasing 8 stitches per row, so 2 stitches per side.
You have solved my problem. Obvious to most but being leftie Im always overthinking what rightie is doing. Regarding borders, you explain the corners so well but I didn’t understand the increasing. Now I will never let a border confuse me. I wonder why even the most basic tutorials don’t verbalise this stitch increase. So Basic not to be explained but I need every basic detail.
I am loving your borders. The only difficulty is choosing one for my C2C blanket. It’s a gift for my son and his partner so I don’t want anything too fussy or frilly.
You would need to work a (herringbone half double crochet, Chain 2, Herringbone Half double crochet) into each corner, and then repeat that every row working that stitch pattern into the CH2 space. The only thing is that makes working the very first corner harder, because your first stitch will not remain in the corner.
it would be a larger or smaller hook. You want the gauge to be the same as the granny square. So if the blanket had a gauge of 4 sts per inch you want the border to have a gauge or 4 sts per inch.
Can you work a herring bone stitch in the corner and 2 chains and then another herring bone stitch or 2 herring bone stitches chain 2 and 2 herring bone stitches? This is going to be a large border around a square.bear rectangle.
Hi! I actually can't crochet, but this looks very cute. I only knit. I was wondering if this works as a cardigan button band or sleeve cuff but with knit stitch edges?
I am afraid I do not knit at all. So I am not sure. I know you can crochet onto knitting and in that case you could use this stitch to finish a cuff. I hope my little bit of knitting knowledge helps.
ua-cam.com/video/MTAcxoPJJyc/v-deo.html If you did a herringbone half double crochet blanket then I would treat the edges of the blanket like they are single crochet (unless that becomes wavy).

Yes. When you work down the side of the rows you want to work 3 single crochet for every 2 rows. I have a video on how to single crochet around a project.
Beautiful border! I have just completed For the Love of Texture afghan and plan to use this border. I have a question about the single crochet initial border as in your video. Hi there. Greetings from the United Kingdom 🇬🇧. Do you have a tutorial for achieving straight edges?

I don't think so because the direction of the stitches will be different.
Thank you for replying so quickly. I’ll go ahead and use your border.

Would this work for a crocodile stitch blanket?
If you can work on row of single crochet around the edge first, it should work for any blanket.
How do You start making the boarder like atatch it?

Yes, furls odyssey hooks.

Would this work on chevrons that don’t have straight edges? The ends of my blanket are like zig zag shapes
Yes and no. You could use the stitch, but you will have to continue working your increases and decreases to make it zigzag with the blanket.
Can I apply this border to a ripple blanket pattern?
You can if it has straight edges. Otherwise you will have to continue increasing and decreasing to keep the ripple going.
Hi! I'd love to use this border on the afghan that I made, but one problem: it's a granny square afghan. How does this translate over for that?
First you would make a single crochet border around the edge of the blanket then you could use any border over that.
