Having to be careful In this sense, I like what you said Justin thus can create a very legalistic mindset also thinking we do or could do anything to earn favor or righteousness of any kind Gentlemen, I fellow brothers would you See any difference at all ,, with a woman wearing make up vs having tattoos for a male or female
Makeup just like tattoos should be guided by principles of modest, intent, context, and respect. Timothy 2:9-10 advises women to be modest in their living. When a woman puts on make up is it to the glory of God? Is it to dress for her Lord? Is it show reverence? Or to lure men and women? We all must be careful. We must be alert and aware of all our thoughts and actions.
A better question than why not do something like get a tattoo is why do it? As Justin said what is the motivation. The word of God discerns the thoughts and motivations the heart. If a person is honest the motivation to get a tattoo is to fit in with the wordily culture. We are called to be a separated, nonconformed people, not to have a friendship with the world. I disagree with you Joe when you say that if a person has no conviction against something then it is ok to do it. That opens the door for a lot of worldliness as well as sinful behavior. Isn't it possible to have tattoos removed? I think that would be money well spent for any Christian who has tattoos.
