  • How To Install Subframe Connectors on 1974-1981 Camaro and Firebirds
Doug from Global West shows you how to install kit 902 subframes on 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981 Camaro/Firebird applications. Subframe connectors tie the factory frame and the uni-body together increasing the rigidity of the chassis. It is an excellent upgrade if you are improving your suspension for more spirited driving. Global West subframes are made out of 1020 DOM 125 wall material. This material is also used for roll cages.

Yeah, these cars tend to have a fine collection of rot after all those years.

The rear frame rail is stronger to weld on then the front of leaf springs

So do only the rear body mounts get replaced, should others and radiator support be replaced with solid as well? Or can they be poly?

GW recommends replacing the other body mounts with solid mounts. They have a kit part number for doing so. But no, you do not have swap out your other poly mounts when installing their connectors. I am not going to do so. You'll give up some rigidity, but I doubt I'll be giving up anything with my driving style. Heck, the primary reason for installation is just to do it and have them. Actually use them? Like tracking the car or being a get away driver? Not happening with me.

You can put your rear end on jack stands and the front onto wooden blocks or roll on ramps.

My 77 formula is all stock and drives like a dream and certainly don't require this .
If I wanted a great handling car, id not have purchased a classic American muscle car.
