    I really think you need to repitch the impeller. That motor is past peak torque, if you can drop it 500-800 RPM it’ll be much happier on the top end

      I'm no expert, but does cavitation happen in an impeller too? I assume that at some point as you say, the impeller becomes the limiting factor.

      Going to say it likely needs a bigger intake and jet assembly. That engine isn't even being taxed, you could use it to make a bigger boat type then it might get some work.

      Their 1st mistake was choosing a pushrod engine. There is no need for the torque.
      They should have went with a Hyabusa V8 or even a rotary engine.
      They’re just wasting money trying to make the wrong engine do something it can’t.

      A turbo quietens exhaust noise massively in all engine applications. Straight piped turbo anything is quieter than straight piped non turbo with same engine, due to the turbine reducing the noise output. This is why non turbo and supercharged engines with high flow or minimal exhaust are so LOUD!

He had the engine built at Steve Morris Engines. I don’t know if it’s still over there or not, I been busy and haven’t watch that channel in a few months. This JetSki is insane, I can’t imagine wanting more

    • @danielwitham1791
      @danielwitham1791 2 місяці тому

      The engine went in and came straight back out again. They need more mods to the body for it to be easily removed to work on. Otherwise it's going to be a shit show trying to wrench on anything.
      So Steve finally got his parts all done and the engine was going in, but in the green monster hemi fashion. She was straight back on a stand and now awaiting modifications to the body of the ski for easier working on the motor.
      I only know this because I happened to watch a very recent SM engines video drop. It's like that things cursed. Hopefully only the engineering and once that's all sorted she just flies with torque of a million rhinos and barely even revving.

    Dude, Summit Racing sells ring grinders for like $35! Just like others have said, I’d take advantage of the torque of the LS, and change the impeller to a very high pitch. It can definitely turn it, and you wouldn’t need to twist it up near as high of RPM. I will say, by far, the baddest sounding ski I have ever heard!

    • @kevin9c1
      @kevin9c1 2 місяці тому

      You'd want to pitch the impeller to let the engine sit at the peak HP RPM right at top speed. If this has a stock cam, they are already past the peak HP RPM....but with a cam and head work these can peak in the high 6000s or even higher. The pushrod/torque part doesn't really matter if you are chasing top speed.

    I think you will see a fair bit of gain by changing the air filter to something with highr flowrate, and move it so the drive isn't blocking the air running to it.
    Why not try running double flex hoses up on the shoulders of the driver to get the best possible air inlet :)

    After studying this video, I have a suggestion that will perhaps increase the speed at the same time you utilize the pressure in the water jet, reduce the diameter of the jet nozzle by 20% it will give higher pressure out of the nozzle more speed, the V8 has the power for that.

    Might be time to look at the hull on that ski, and see if the factory left any hooks in it. You have plenty of power. I would start looking into the hull and pump for your speed. If it's running too wet, it might be time to look into making the first droop snoot for a yamaha pump. Look at what the river racing jetboats, and drag racing jetboats are doing. Yes, you don't have a mixed flow pump, but many of the same principles can be applied.

    You’re going great! Only through consistent testing will improvements be achieved and a couple of things are obvious…… it runs well, reliable and now can be benchmarked for performance improvements. Although it may seem slow to you compared to your other high performance skis, but the acceleration is staggering. Can you also consider increasing the pitch of the impeller as well. If it can accelerate quickly, you have a lot of torque in reserve. If you can increase the thrust and only loose a little acceleration the result would be a higher speed. Just thinking the limits you are hitting is not the engine gearbox package.

    1:40 - Is that wise? Using a wet sump in a vehicle that is going to experience high g-loading, both from cornering and the impacts of coming off waves and jumping?
    Is that the air intake above the two exhaust outlets? If so, that's a pretty small surface area to pull enough air through for a turbo V8. There's also a possibility that because of the way the air will end up with a dead spot directly behind your back, that the inlet might be sucking some hot exhaust back in to the engine.

      Wet sump should be ok, just about all the forces should be directed downwards...
      Yes, the air intake might be a bit of a concern, I agree. Not sure its a large problem in reality though, but its got potential to rob a bit of power, thats for sure.

    Your maxed out on Hull speed... Make it longer. You don't have to change your deposition or transom. You can have a slice running right down the middle and the hull extensions basically being tapered, C-shaped, skies that the jetski can plain on.
    Read a little bit about naval engineering and hull speed and you'll understand my description.

    What size fuel tank is on this thing ? That’s my question to know how long will the ride time be. Assuming my old seadoo rotax 90hp would guzzle all 10 gallons in 1.5hrs. Very cool build though. It’s not the destination sometimes but the journey getting g there. I love it for all intent & purposes. It’s a one off. Enough said.

      So you had data you can draw the conclusion you did from, I mean.
      Because I sure havent seen a single one that would fit the bill. Do you mind enlightening me, because as it stands, and considering my own experience with boats, PWC and the physics behind them, I am still very doubtful of your claim, as it would pertain to this vehicle.

      @@GoldenCroc I've never seen a PWC swapped to a surface drive. I have seen shift in design over the last few years to surface drive from pump drive on the larger vessels. I don't have any data but just from what I've watched pump drive systems must be matched to the HP of the engine. You can change out the impeller to move a bigger volume of water per turn but I think your gonna hit inlet size resections long before all the HP is usable for higher top speed runs. I'm just an spectator who watches you videos. I didn't do my homework and just offer my thoughts.

      @@gonesilent2814 You seem serious and sincere enough with your post (in comparison to some people that have their mind made up and just want to be right), so I will make a serious answer:
      To start from the beginning, jet pumps are indeed terrible for efficincy of propulsive force, and especially for smaller vehicles. Even under-boat shaft mounted props are better. Outdrives and outboard mounted props are better again, and surface mounted props are best. So far your thinking is quite right.
      But now, scroll up and take a look at my first reply to you again, it only mentions the drivability and how that would affect the top speed one could reach. #the crux is what you yourself write "larger (much heavier than this) vessels" (often sporting two surface drives, with counter rotating props, negating twinsting torque)
      Surface drives and surfacing props in general can and will induce a lot of twisting torque into the hull. Enough to literally be able to flip a smaller vessel over on its side under some cicrumstances. A PWC is very much in that "small vessel category".
      Secondly, a PWC is very top heavy compared to a boat. That makes it even easier for it to flip over and/or inducing oscillations known as "chine walk", Bot of which make it very hard if not impossible and certainly extremely dangerous to go fast. I would say for this hull I estimate that speed to be already at no more than 50-60 mph in a PWC hull like this, with conventional surfacing prop mounting.
      A Jet drive induces very little torque, almost inconsequential. At least, when seen from the prespective that it also "sucks" the PWC down towards the water at the same time, giving it more stability.
      WIth their short hull length and top heaviness, most PWCs would likely struggle mightily to break (as said above) 50-60 mph running anything but a jet drive system, not because of lack of power, but because the lack of stability would make them very hard, if not impossible to ride any faster.
      So to quote myself from the first reply again: "Even in a straight line, it might very well be slower because of that."
