Job well done, keep'er out of rough waters, I'm afraid she won't survive, however, I think it's pretty cool. Also a little advice from an engineer to help you out in the future. Add a 12lbs weight inside the front cavity of the speedboat and re-enforce the central structure with an internal keel and internal structural supports. Sorry about my rambling 😅, you did a good job.
Thank you very much for your feedback, I appreciate it as I continue to improve and learn. I will try to develop and do better, I hope you always follow and support me.
Based on my past experiences I totally agree with the internal supports, that hull though will not withstand hitting a log or much of anything. I'd put in foam so at least you won't have to go fishing for the boat.
I'm guessing the fueling wasn't up to snuff because there was never a point when throttle was wide open, you couldn't open the throttle past maybe 25% because it most likely leans out terribly bad, prolly be much faster if the fueling was right and had some way to measure A/F ratio and def a boost gauge too. With the pump outlet leaking like that too, could pick up alot more power and fun just refining it, the last 10% is always the hardest on any project. Still very cool, lets get a part 2 with the kinks worked out!
Yup, looks like it definitely needs more fuel. I'm thinking, though, it may develop too much velocity through the venturi which may result in over fueling. Time for a bigger carb and a tune either way. Or maybe, just maybe dual carbs. Whatever is easiest from what he has laying around. I bet he was just excited to get it in the water and drive around. I know I would have been. He sure seems up to the task of finishing and I hope to see how this develops.
I'd check what stresses the engine and drive train could take before optimizing the air flow, boost & fuel ratio to get maximum horsepower. If the engine explodes from the maximum combustion pressures and producing horsepower beyond design limits, it can create very dangerous shrapnel. I caught some shrapnel in my arm from an overstressed 6 hp engine as a teen - fortunately, it was a very minor injury, but enough to learn the lesson.
