When he set up the briefcase punchline, I thought for a quick second: "Ooh, was that too dark for Conan back then?" Conan's response: "Well, you need something to carry it in..." 😂
Disagree... Check out Shane gillis, or actually anything else, watch paint dry or grass grow, or cat videos, or dogs fucking, anything else but this lame ass shit
This was a lovely blast from the late-night past, thanks for this video! That first clip right after the show started is so bizarre to watch now, given what both these guys became. Look how small that set looks compared to now! There were a number of comedy cauldrons in the early-to-mid 90s that were considered, at the time, to be alternative, strange, and deeply "quirky" in their work. Yet set the stage for the comedy boon in the last 5-10 years *everywhere* on TV. The writer's room for early Conan was one of them.
You can see the evolution of Louis.. He had hair, energetic- to getting married, balding and losing interest in life. To getting divorce and becoming a legend, one of the greats.
If your goal was to have a family and a house and a white picket fence, you've been sold a pipe dream that serves nothing but the feminine imperative. The few who are able to break their backs to serve their feminine overlords quickly discover that there's nothing positive in it for them. Whether it takes divorce rape, false abuse accusations, or losing custody of their children, men learn that the dream wasn't theirs.
Losing interest in life? Dude, you need to realize that his jokes are jokes, do not take them to be facts. You seriously think he hates being a parent also? I just can't understand how people seem to have such a big problem with this. He probably loves life, all his money and his kids.
The price for commitment is too high for men, the rewards are too low. Especially when people expect us to be some sort of Disney prince for an ex-slut.
I don't think I've ever witnessed Louie be unentertaining for 5 seconds straight. He's never had 5 uninteresting seconds of talking in his entire career, it's crazy.
@@TheBrawlmastahhow is reading the silliest book in history not funny? Own slaves, kill women, murder every first born of a nation...it's comedy fodder. Maybe you're not familiar with it.
I saw these when they first broadcasted! good memories, thanks for putting these here. also, these are some of the early, great Conan days. I miss those.
Oh man...my mind is BLOWN watching him at such a young age! The voice is there and some of the style is there but he's not the same comedian. Something clearly changed as the video went on.
I think it's clearly having children, as his comedy went to a new level after his kids were born. (certainly not after marriage) He tapped into a comedy that hadn't really been talked about. Rather than "having kids are great, but it's hard" to "It totally sucks having kids and they're jerks". Saying the funny things that we all thought, but could never say.
Dade, I think the delivery was there, but the strong funny and - most importantly - relatable takes were not. Louis admits himself he was trying too hard to be an alternative angry take comic before 2004, and this video shows it better than anything I've seen. When he took his alternative style and delivery, put angst and some brilliant relatable modern observations about living in America in the beginning of the 21st century, then he became great. That's also why his alternative style now began to work. He would take hilarious, everyday stuff, and then make a huge U-turn in his routine - sometimes within the joke let alone the bit. Without his old shock style put in, Louis is still a very good observational comic, but not considered one of the best of his generation as he is now. And again, this video shows why that is perfectly. The U-turns made people stop and think, but also allowed Louis to easily flow from topic to topic, because he could then take you anywhere.
Hey, Thanks, I love these two together, I'm always excited when they do a new interview together, they are my favorite comedians. It's nice to have a compilation of all of them.
His June 2007 appearance was way funnier knowing John Krazinksi with his clean cut image was next to him trying to keep it together. Meanwhile CK’s talking about constantly imagining his life without his kids and saying the best moment of his life was putting opiates in his ass 😂
Louie discovered the social media scam all the way back in 2001 with his 'bad jokes' thing. People get angry and then read another one and leave comments and you get a 'spike' in activity - now that's the whole game! Great job!
Amazing compilation. It's very interesting to see him evolve. As he seems to get less excited about life, he becomes much more talented at his craft. I'd love to eavesdrop on him and late Robin Williams having a beer together. Let the good stuff come out.
Louie is the proof that it is never too late to get good on a profession. His improvement is amazing. He mastered the stand up comedy and became a pretty good director with the louie series.
I remember seeing Louie on Conan in the late 90s and thinking “this guy is going to be huge!” Finally, he gained a modicum of the respect he deserved with the “Louie” show and a few years later gets “cancelled” in more ways than just his show. Regardless of what some may think of him, you have to admit he’s hilarious.
