Norm deserved so much more notoriety. The fact that all the best comedians in the country loved him shows just how great he was. Norm is the only celebrity I’ve ever truly gotten sad for when they passed. He was the best.
I still and probably will never get enough of Norm. I know it's already been a bit but I know I'm not going to get over his passing. And this story will never get old.
I remember watching this as a teenager in the 90s. It was on at like 1am in Australia. I hard horrible insomnia after getting clean and Conan helped on those long nights. Anytime Norm was on it was something special, clear memories of watching this episode live, it was such a stand out.
As a Canadian who had to take French in school - 6 yrs, there were many stories we had to read in French. Marie-Claire & Jean Luc were common names in them. If only we had some of Norm's stories for these classes!!! 😂 Norm, you moved to the States, but you will always be one of ours, albeit, now in loving memory. 🥀♥
@@gorway6807 Me too!! 🤣 Whenever I hear Norm do the Fr. Cdn. accent, I always think of our former PM Jean Chrétien - carbon copy, to me. He had to have gotten it from him. 😉
I saw him at a club and he bombed (I didn't even like his set). But a real Norm fan can get over it - the material he used that night he eventually honed and made it hilarious on a podcast. But that's a risk you took with him and Gilbert Gottfried. They were fearless.
My mom served as a waitress at a comedy club in Toronto around the time Norm was still working in canada, and she said there were countless times where Norm would just be wandering on stage and ramble about some tangent the audience was barely following and waltz of like it was no big deal. The guy was in his own world in her own words, and bombing and throwing a crowd off completely to him seemed almost more satisfying than landing his jokes. The guy was truly one of a kind
"My friends are like, eh let's go. I'm like WHY DON'T YOU GUYS GO! (thumb) Where are you gonna go--y'know, why GO? Like we're in a bar drinkin, right? HEY! I'll just stay here, I'll make new friends..." (abridged)
I guess only Norm could get away with referencing two obscure British TV stars on such huge US chat shows 🤣 Rula Lenska and, on another clip somewhere, Morwenna Banks.
I’m French Canadian and I can tell you straight up his impressions of Jean-Luc and Mary Claire are perfect. And I’m willing to bet Conan doesn’t know where the Gaspe is 🇨🇦😂
Cheers 🍻 👏 Norm. You make the world a tolerable place. And much more fun. 🤡 We miss you but are grateful you were once here. Peace ✌️ ☮️ 🕊 Norm McDonald 😂
What a great time ❤ and then the band playing run through the jungle. WuuWee, I tell ya. Wish I cOuldve been there. Can’t even listen to creedence any more man.. they stole my car & the dang tape was in there man.
@mikewynne7131 nah but my point was that even at the time (1999) referencing her was an old and uncommon reference, he could've said a number of more recent famous red heads lol He was a foo wit it 😆 😎
@ - In his book there’s a part where a deranged town semi-homeless WW2 veteran tricks him into a tool shed and locks it. He doesn’t describe what happened in detail but he says he lost his memory for the next few years. He was asked about it on a couple radio interviews too.
My estimation of him has gone up even higher than it already was. Conan is joking that he's homophobic for the fact that he didn't want to be sexually assaulted, at the bequest of an MTV producer, who should have been sacked and heavy sued for offering money to someone in exchange for doing that to Norm, who he has purposefully backed into a corner to try and do that to him. Good on Norrn for thinking quickly and avoiding that situation without resorting to violence, which would have totally justified in my opinion.
The censorship on UA-cam is so bad. A central theme of Norm’s humour is subtle and not so subtle offence. The freedom to think is also the freedom to use a naughty word. America - grow up!
You’re not very smart, are you? (Since I think I’m correct: 1) it’s a joke, 2) the riddle purposely is incorrect, 3) it sounds right, but isn’t, 4) “brothers and sisters I have none…”)

electric chemistry these two
Norm is truly one of a kind. Nobody else can or ever will have that personality, that style of comedy. My favorite of all time.
Conan and Norm. 25 years later, still the best.

I wonder, if Conan is watching this every now and then with a sad smile.
I think he does with a happy smile
Fuck, man
This is probably his best appearance

Norm could make fun of so many things about pop culture with this type of story.
Hope Andy comes back
every time i see those couches i think about Tom Green
That sarcastic, "everythings fine" line from Norm seemed like a bit of foreshadowing. Followed by Conan's, "you're hiding something aren't you?"
Knowing what we know now about what happened to Norm as a child the story about being jumped on by the naked dancer on MTV takes on a much darker tone
