May be the pressure of a Gold Medal match, but they do not look like 4.0 finalist. In the first match the far court team also positioned themselves wrongly on the court when their score was 8 and also the referee did not see it
You have to take their age and the amount of time they've probably been playing that day into account too. 65+ 4.0 is going to look different than 19+ 4.0
Competitive match. Not a criticism, and it’s certainly not a necessity, but to reach a gold metal match with little to no spin from any players seems a rare feat. Congratulations to the winners.
With courts this narrow, what are they supposed to do if there's an atp opportunity on the side the judge is on? Seems like he could pretty easily get in the way of that
The most underused shot in pickleball, especially in the senior game, especially in mixed doubles, and especially in the wind and sun, is the third shot LOB. Even if it doesn't get over the receiver's head, it's a tough ball to put away. If the serving team both STAY BACK, follow it up with a back spin dink at the person who hit the overhead, and that person will miss it most of the time. By backing the receivers up, you give yourself a bigger target for the dink. it seemed like the winning team hardly ever hit a third shot drop...maybe it was too windy....in that case, hit some LOBS!
Yep. Lobs get a lot of bad press in the pickleball community but used at the right time against the right opponents and they're golden. Lob the tall guy back, then go to his feet on his backhand side.
You have to remember this match was probably played at the end of the day after a day of other matches. That being said, Denise did make some unforced errors in the first half of the first match but started to make some well placed shots in the second half of that match that helped to win that game.
GREAT Commentary....it really helps "the rest of us" newbies learn strategy~~~So thank you from Bozeman!
Glad you enjoy it!
I subscribed just because of the excellent commentary. Really opened my eyes to the strategy of the game.
Awesome. Glad you enjoy it!
0:55 LOL she's like me.. Smiles "OOPSIE DAISIEEEE!!" My kind of player I like to play with hahah

That ball glazed John and he knows it !! Lol

Medal not metal lol
@@richgraham4416 thx. I’ll inform auto-correct.
Great commentary 👍🏻
Great match! A 4.0 65+ is not same as a men’s open 4.0.
Because he played the middle so much, if they had gone to John’s backhand more they would have won the match.
If. If
There is no way these players are 4.0.
thanks you
3 lefties...don't see that too often!
True!

You just revealed yourself as....SATAN!

Very interesting strategy to lob the third shot. Against "true" 4.0s, that just doesn't work
Great close match.
Nice match!
Is there a 5.0 catagory for 65+ or were these guys the best players there?
The 5.0 level went up the 80+ age division. Here's the 5.0 75+/80+ gold medal match: ua-cam.com/video/OMNHe4xIDF8/v-deo.html
@@TeamHanlonPickleball Thanks for posting the older age groups so we can see what's out there.

Huge fot fault around 48:01 missed by the ref (the lady with the maroon skirt)
John is quite the poacher. OK, if you can get the shot.
cant stand poachers ! but excellent commentary…well done .
then get your ass up to the nvz
@51:59 😅
If this is a 4.0 match for 65 ,s then sorry I don't see it
The lady in the red skirt may not be 4.0 level, several unforced errors that should be easy shots
I was thinking the same thing!
I don't think any of them are 4.0 but...it's good to see players playing "up" instead of sandbagging like you see so very often.

Interesting hearing the subtle coaching from the audience … 🫤
