I’m now wandering how many GSD owners use the word “tee tee” across the world 😄 I know we do thanks to German Shepherd Man!

Your channel is so helpful. My new GSD puppy will be coming home in about 6-7 weeks. I haven’t raised a puppy in 30+ years (since my last son was a little boy). Looking forward to the adventure. Thanks for all your tips!

German Shepherd Man Official Channel yes I am now rescuing a 5 month old GSD puppy that was abused in bad shape and zeke seems to be very fond of him I know you advise against having 2 male GSD at same time but thanks to you I feel I have the confidence to take them both off together maybe since they’re similar in age and both puppies it won’t be a problem as long as I remain pack leader and ABT!

Hey GSM, I have a follow up question to this video. So during this timeframe of crate training, is the dog out of the crate only to go to the bathroom, play, and eat? Or is it ok to have her around sleeping next to me for an hour or two, maybe wander a little bit under supervision? With my girl she’s had accidents when wandering while I was there but not exactly paying close attention at that exact moment. She doesn’t have any accidents when she’s sleeping next to me on the couch say if I’m watching a show. So in short, should she be in the crate basically all day for this short time frame to get her trained or is what I’m currently doing ok, just maybe some more close supervision needed when she’s up? I know you say to take human emotions out of it but I can’t help but feel that having her in a crate 20 hours a day is inhumane but maybe I’m wrong. Some clarification would be nice. Thank you. And sorry for the essay lol.

I know you keep mentioning to play play play! - until they’re tired. I’ve been told to keep the playing to the minimum like 15 minutes total the entire day for a 8 week old. Because it can cause them hip dysplasia, specifically for west show line German Shepherd. What’s your thoughts on that Mr. GSM?

Lots of opinions out there...I have had great success playing the puppy until they are tired. If I don't do it, they will play play play on their own (sometimes destructively) until they get tired. Jus sayin...GSM

Just beware of over crating and not getting the dog out in to the outside World. I am seeing a very damaged GSD scared of the outside which was crated all the time. She is terrified . Barks at everything and she's under a positive only trainer : ( The owners stroke her when she barks, That will only make the dog worse. So sad to know she'll never have a fulfilled life. If I got hold of her she'd be fine in a few months. Soooo frustrating. Thanks to all at GSM in GSD Land : )

We picked up our GSD puppy on Sunday and he loves his crate! We follow your guidance but sometimes rather than crate him we let him lay in the shade o/s or under our legs? This doesn’t deter him from walking into his crate to sleep at night or if the kids are being overly noisy?! Are we going to cause a problem by not crating him every time? He’s a gorgeous little boy who’s doing everything we’ve asked of him in the short time we’ve had him!

Depends on how old he is and how long you’ve been training him to go to his . I followed his puppy training system my GSD is 7 months old now he can be relaxing with us in our living room and outside but he knows as soon as I say “kennel “ it’s time for him to go to his “safe spot” or his “home” . making the crate his own comfort zone is crucial in puppy stages of a GSD it takes a while for them to get it but if you stay consistent the outcome is amazing

J Man . He’s just over 8 weeks and loves his crate with no whimpering or crying. We’ve just started on the command for ‘kennel’ plus hand gesture so it’s very early days. He’s just started to show restraint when food is presented to him in just 1 day, which is just amazing! I don’t think we’d be where we are now if it weren’t for GSM!

How often do you take an 8wk old puppy out of the crate for a day? 3 times, 4 times?

  • @jettiemax

Would it be a bad idea to have a kennel that is used during the daytime for crate training in a high traffic area and a different one that is used in the bedroom for nighttime? My son has been sleeping on the couch (she is his dog) so that he can be near when his puppy needs to be let out (which is about 1:00 am and anytime between 6:00 and 7:00 am.) He misses his bed. Would having the puppy sleep in a different crate at night confuse the puppy too much?
