You are a savior. I just adopted a DDR GSD.
Wolf whined like CRAZY. For sometimes 30 minutes straight.
After a week and a half of sticking to this crate method, she doesn’t whine, and only have had two accidents inside!

GSM your technique saved my sanity and worked on my 12 week old German shepherd pup in just 3 days!! I was literally going insane! Cleaning up pee constantly taking him out constantly plus having my kids homeschooling and my terrible 2's toddler during quarintine I really thought I was gonna lose it. So I wanted to thank you deeply from the depths of my soup!! Tou saved me!

We will be getting our first GSD puppy in the next couple of months and wanted to be prepared. I’ve seen other advice very similar to this, and it’s always mentioned that the key is consistency. Same door, no delays, have anything you need available at that particular door. I’ve taken notes throughout this video, and it will be the first thing we do when we bring our puppy home!

Great vid, and this works for 99% of dogs. Worked for every dog we've crate trained in the past. We have unfortunately ended up with the exception to the rule. Right now she's our "nothing works" puppy. She's determined she's just going to go in the house no matter how many hours she's left in the crate or how long she's put outside.

Dogs/pups don't hold a grudge and by giving into crying then the pup learns that crying gets what it wants. I love the way you use pine shavings . It gives a clear scent to the pup of where to go. When picking up the pup don't put pressure on the bladder as they will dribble as the bladder is full. Only thing I don't do is play with pups at toilet time. I pop on a lead/leash and everything is kept calm and quiet so no adrenaline is released. I put pup straight back to bed after toileting and by keeping things low key the pup simply goes back to sleep. Food puts pressure on the bowel and bladder so I take pups out straight after feeding. This applies to adult dogs to. Bottom line (excuse the pun ) , do what is working for you. It takes 2 days with the pups I have had. Great video. Thanks to all at GSM Land : )

When my gsp was first home at 8 weeks, I kept him in the crate and I used it to initiate potty training . After about four days, I moved to just having him in the crate at night and kept him on a leash in the house during the day. I would just follow him around and when I noticed the potty behaviours, I would take him out. This hasn't been foolproof, and I realize now that I should have kept him in the crate all the time (after potty, playtime and training). So, my qustion is now that he is 12 weeks old, and definitely not housetrained, should I go back to starting at square one? Really appreciate your iinput, thank you.

I am only on night TWO with my 8 1/2 week old and he has already been going into his crate on his own and not barking for more than 5-10 minutes when he is put in the crate for rest… he barked for 40 minutes-1 hour the first night for reference, this is so helpful! Thank you so much!

So glad I found your channel. Quick question...at what point do you allow the to roam freely and no longer keep them in the crate on a routine schedule?

Hey, I got a little confused. So do we put them in the cage after the puppy played and is tired or after they roamed around
For a bit? Thanks again GSM!

Hi there, I am trying to get a schedule for this. I feel like my puppy plays for about 30 minutes and then they are back in the crate. Is that too much time in the crate during the day?

The different consonants help later so the dog can differentiate between the words and you can train them to go potty on command. At least that’s how I did with my dog. I’m not sure if that’s also his reasoning. Matthew Holloway

Awesome video! I have a couple questions, do I leave water in their crate? If not when do I give them water?. Also how long should I keep them staying in the crate until I let the roam around freely? And when do I allow time to train them (such as sit, stay, come etc)? Should I do that during play time?

My pups been an absolute champ. If you just take them outside to where you want them to go to the toilet EVERY TIME as soon as they wake up then they'll get the jist. Let them finish before applauding them otherwise you might interrupt them and they stop and finish once they get inside. Took a couple weeks for my pup to get the hang of it but he goes to the back door now every time he wants to go to the toilet. He just sits are the door, looks at me and/or spoke a bit until we open the door for him. We leave the water bowl outside too which saves us a bit of trouble coz he often pees after drinking

And for how long you leave them in the crate. Start it off with small time periods. Personally I don't put my pup in the crate except for when I feed him meals and when he sleeps but we are always monitoring his actions and have toys laid around the house so he doesn't chew on furniture (and it's worked, he never chews on the couch or our shoes). I train him every couple hours and he's constantly wearing himself out with toys. The first few weeks are full on and you'll need to sacrifice a lot of your own time but it's worth it.
We recently attached a rope to our back door and we're teaching him to open the door himself to let himself out (he knows how to push the door open when he is outside to let himself in). They are a super smart breed and pick things up pretty quickly

Hello GSD man, hope you are doing great!I recently got a 2 month old GSD puppy and i have kept him for 2 days now in my relatively big house. He has a doggy house but it's super big and made for when he grows up.When i don't suprervise him he stays and sleeps on my balcony which is medium size,i take him every now and then when i wake up and before bed to go potty outside but he never seems to go potty outside and just potties on the balcony instead.Since i don't have a crate and keep him only on my balcony how do i control him?Do i just leave him alone and let him sleep and when he wakes up to take him potty and reward him when he does on the right spot? Thanks in advance GSD Man.

Is it ok to move the crate? I live by myself in a home. I’m picking my 7 wk old pup today. Would it be ok to have the pup in the crate in the living room and then move it to my room at night where I sleep?
Just want to say thanks GSM... I was very nervous about getting a pup, but with your videos, I feel so much more calm and prepared.
