    I'm not a writer but once I wrote a short story with pen and paper about a man walking at night arbitrarily, just seeping things in. While I was listening to stan getz and samba/jazz. It was the most relaxing things I've ever done in a while, almost felt like I was smoked at the end of it. I get with the sentiment of only being able to write short stories though, I feel like thats mainly contingent on constituting your reality with what you're doing continously, when you're not constantly checking your social media and stuff, but being obsessed with your craft, and being able to be obsessed with your craft. I'm a studying mathematician and how I do that is set up a timer and get to doing the task, every time cumulating a longer time. So maybe try just closing your door, warmly lit, pen and paper, with books around you and keep up a timer, so when you're tires, stop the timer and keep this up, every time adding more time to it. I use simple time tracker on android to keep track of this, what do you say?

    really resonating with how you're describing character developments and "leaving the canvas partially blank." lets the reader be more engaged with the world you're handing them, becomes more of a conversation between readers and writer.

      i have always loved the sentiment of "meeting them half way" in art as a creator and a viewer.

    I really like the concept of "non finito" and I think it really applies to the 'leaving parts of a character a mystery' discussion. "Non finito" is a term mostly used in visual arts and it basically is the concept of intentionally leaving an art piece unfinished as a form of expression. Sometimes characters need to be "non finito" to be appealing. I hope I make sense

      It's easy to get distracted by new ideas. Write them down and get back to them. But make sure to finish before moving onto something new. I'm always procrastinating with new ideas. Big time procrastinating now😅

    Came across this on my UA-cam recommendations. I'm hardly 10mins into this and I'm already in awe of how raw this is, it's refreshing to see someone just "talk" you know? especially on a platform as this where everything's shown to be so 'perfect'.... the angles, the hair, the backdrop, their outfit, etc and it just ends up lacking soul. However, this is far from that.

    Your video just popped up on my feed and how refreshing. I'm doing NaNoWriMo too - I find having a deadline commitment and a graph is wonderfully motivating it. I'm delving into literary fiction which is something different for me, and really my goal with the book I'm working on with it is to romanticise the mundane. Glad to hear about your process and I look forward to watching it unfold.

      it sounds like we have similer styles! have you ever participated in nanowrimo before?

    • @skyemallac6906
      @skyemallac6906 15 днів тому

      @@trevcimenski yep, I did nanowrimo in 2022 and kicked off the first draft of my first novel - which was an African fantasy. I found the community hard to connect with because, as you said, it's quite YA and romance-saturated, but I love a good deadline to kick me into gear. Curious as to how you feel about the platform/challenge etc? It always sounds like such a challenge but once you get into it I feel the min word count is very doable and gets me back into the habit of writing something substantial every day.

    I totally get you with the whole "how do people work on two projects at the same time?" I've heard this as advice whenever you're stuck in a book, but it just doesn't feel right for me. It's always good to try out new things. But I think a large percentage of the time, we already know how that's going to turn out. It reminds me of the time I tried to write out of order. Nope. It just wasn't for me, either.
    I find really interesting to hear about writers who write by hand. I'm currently trying to do more writing that way, but it feels weird haha But I've heard that the brain processes information differently when you write by hand vs the computer, but I think it's a very worthwhile method, even if it takes longer.
    Anyways, good luck with your book! It was really interesting to hear about your process and methods. I just came across your channel via the algorithm and I can't wait to see more from you.

    I've just finished the third draft of my novel, during which I had a new (totally different and completely unhinged) idea occur that I recognised immediately as a different story altogether. It made me realise that my current work was too rooted in the mundane and so I tweaked it towards magical realism and it helped me scratch that itch. The second idea very much sparked new enthusiasm about the current work and is also fueling me through the next draft so that I can sooner start on the next novel. But yes! New ideas are always tempting me into new territory and I must channel the wisdom to know when to fight and when to follow!!!

    • @trevcimenski
      @trevcimenski  15 днів тому

      i feel if i spend too long on a story i go through this process of completely rewriting it, but to the point of where i dont even recognise the original story anymore. I love this but also worry about it sometimes. im happy you are on your third draft! how do you feel about it? you seem excited.

    • @valentinacarrizo8456
      @valentinacarrizo8456 15 днів тому

      I think the rewriting is where the story actually happens even if it’s far off what it was originally. I can’t remember where the quote came from but it was something about ideas being in the ether for you to take at that particular moment because they are “ready”. If you don’t take it, it will travel to someone else who is ready for it, which is ok too. This has helped me let go of the “ownership” of ideas and simply let them be, pursue the ones that are right for me and let the others go.
      This is still so relevant for me going into the fourth draft as I am breaking the story down and rebuilding it again to emphasise certain things and underscore others, and letting go of whatever doesn’t serve it. It’s grunt work but I’m enjoying it so far (when I’m not hitting my head against the wall). I should also point out I have no idea what I’m doing but I figure there’s no right or wrong.

    having simultaneous creative ideas seems to be a natural occurence and i believe especially for multitalented people in diferent arts. just think of it, if you can generate a drawing and a poem at almost the same time, that makes it 2 simultaneous, parallel and different ideas but on a beginner level. i'm thinking that having multiple stories in mind and in work it's similar to you upgrading to a "next level of generating creative ideas" so to say. if the story wants to be writen, it will be even if you draft or even start a second one, because it doesn't let you quit and it just haunts your thoughts. i had that happen to me, started a second story and thought it was the death of the first one, and i resigned in "hey, at least i practiced" (just for context i have a similar style where i discover the story as i write, i don't know where it takes me, from here i can't know if it's finished or not, which is both fascinating and weird)... but then i kept returning in my thoughts to the first one, tried continuing it and the story keeps pouring.. so.. i guess now i have to alternate them as i feel called to do.. i believe you can too, or at least it appears that your soul wants that for you.. trust that you will create every piece of art that is yours to bring it this world, it's just a matter of patience, hard work, humbleness and letting go of trying to control the process, or at least this is my perspective on it :) i do believe the soul knows the way better than the ego, you just have to be willing to accept the adventure and see where it takes you..

    • @trevcimenski
      @trevcimenski  15 днів тому +2

      i cant tell if its my soul wanting to write a story or just my brain trying to distract me! i think its cool that you are navigating multiple projects. a part of me is definitely tempted to just keep journalling little snippets of this new story down somewhere. just to keep me company.

    • @andreeampatrasc
      @andreeampatrasc 15 днів тому +1

      @trevcimenski i trust that you'll figure out if it's just a distraction or something that bears fruit :) that "just to keep me company" has touched me, for i know very well that it can be quite a lonesome journey at times. but writing is a good companion that truly listens to us and through which we as writers can exist in our own little worlds. it is a beautiful thing to have at the stretch of the hand :)

    I used to watch you on TT but I'm weaning off the socials so I'm glad to see you even if you don't know me!
    I've just allowed myself to get over my internal block about wanting to write a novel but seemingly only writing these half written (really good scenes or partial stories). So I decided to stop being a dick to myself and just started a blog for me to just use the writing muscle again on a regular basis.
    Now my plans are to use all this art that I consistently bookmark and use it as a prompt for some of the creative writing on my blog. This has made me feel less caged and less disappointed in myself. Letting this guilt and shame go has now allowed this beautiful wellspring of creativity spilling out of me.
    Anyway, dunno why I wanted to share that but here ya are 🫶🏾
