when you dont realize your mind isnt racing a million miles an hour until something pulls you out of the slipstream, and suddenly you dont know how your legs were carrying you so well, and everyone else is still floating down the river and you're walking with the flow on the bottom, focusing on everything but the point of letting yourself go

I used to watch you on TT but I'm weaning off the socials so I'm glad to see you even if you don't know me! I've just allowed myself to get over my internal block about wanting to write a novel but seemingly only writing these half written (really good scenes or partial stories). So I decided to stop being a dick to myself and just started a blog for me to just use the writing muscle again on a regular basis. Now my plans are to use all this art that I consistently bookmark and use it as a prompt for some of the creative writing on my blog. This has made me feel less caged and less disappointed in myself. Letting this guilt and shame go has now allowed this beautiful wellspring of creativity spilling out of me. Anyway, dunno why I wanted to share that but here ya are 🫶🏾

are you a mbti ISFP by any chance? I completely relate to not being in a creative/writing mood except for right after and before sleep. Btw, I recommend using a thermos to drink coffee out of and it stays hot for a while. I like the feel of mugs but it gets cold too fast in the winter. I’ll pour hot water into the thermos first to heat it up, pour that out, then pour the hot coffee into it.

@ I was in a writing group and we would take turns reading our work out loud to each other and get feedback. Helped me grow so much but I get it’s nerve wracking. I suggest the books save the cat and creating character arcs to everyone.
I’m so sorry, because this is so off topic from the discussion but so much about this video gives me frog and toad vibes. Maybe it’s because I’ve recently been going back to childhood illustrations and books that I enjoyed when I was younger and it’s been occupying my mind already. But also I mean this as a compliment because frog and toad have a very comforting essence at least to me and most people I know. Idk what the point of this frog and toad comment is I think I’ve lost the plot 🪷 🫖

Came across this on my UA-cam recommendations. I'm hardly 10mins into this and I'm already in awe of how raw this is, it's refreshing to see someone just "talk" you know? especially on a platform as this where everything's shown to be so 'perfect'.... the angles, the hair, the backdrop, their outfit, etc and it just ends up lacking soul. However, this is far from that.

The style of your video production is so refreshing compared to what I’m used to seeing on UA-cam-and honestly, anywhere else. It’s raw, slow, and unedited, which I absolutely adore. Your videos have so much personality, something I feel is missing in a lot of media nowadays. I really appreciate that! :)
The way you described falling out of love with something you’re creating as being akin to a summer fling was such a good comparison. I consider myself to be a creative and motivated person in general, but I don’t like to think about how many days, weeks, or even months that I will let art projects just sit there. It really is like you said - a fling of sorts. For some reason, even if I love the piece I’m creating, there are just certain ones that I enjoy working on one minute and the next I just decide that I’ll never finish it. It’s like a drastic creative mood swing. Something that I’ve been learning lately is that not everything needs or benefits from a deadline. Sometimes the best creations require some marinating - just because you’re not working on something doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not “working” on it. Sometimes you have to mentally work on a project before you can actualize it. This year in particular I have finally finished a few creative projects, that I lost interest or motivation in months ago (longer in some cases). Finishing those projects was even more of a high than what I usually feel when I finish a project that goes quickly or smoothly. It’s like reconnecting with an old fling. Sometimes these things do work out in the end. All that being said, if you don’t have to assign a deadline to something creative, then don’t. Good things take time and I know your book will be great🤙🏻
i feel like tis very touch and go. i loooove to let things marinate. but if i never put an end date. then those things will just become long forgotten on the back burner.
@ you’re right. I guess for me, if I know I’m going to finish something eventually (or at least I want to), I’d just rather come back to it when I feel the passion return. Definitely not a blanket statement though. In a non-perfect world, sometimes I guess we just have to power through😂 Hope your writing is going well!

Distriction is good, it means you are on the right track. Don't lose yourself though. Recognize the distraction as fearful procrastination and self sabotage. Write through it all. Take this advice from someone who is always distracted❤

@trevcimenski I've read this series several times (nerd, I know) it's more geared towards men, but it's one of my very favorites!
I really like the concept of "non finito" and I think it really applies to the 'leaving parts of a character a mystery' discussion. "Non finito" is a term mostly used in visual arts and it basically is the concept of intentionally leaving an art piece unfinished as a form of expression. Sometimes characters need to be "non finito" to be appealing. I hope I make sense

I’m in secondary school doing my a levels in English literature, history and geography and would love to write after school and to be a writer - really interesting hearing a writer speak about his experiences and processes. It makes me excited to explore the ideas I have for future stories!

I totally get you with the whole "how do people work on two projects at the same time?" I've heard this as advice whenever you're stuck in a book, but it just doesn't feel right for me. It's always good to try out new things. But I think a large percentage of the time, we already know how that's going to turn out. It reminds me of the time I tried to write out of order. Nope. It just wasn't for me, either. I find really interesting to hear about writers who write by hand. I'm currently trying to do more writing that way, but it feels weird haha But I've heard that the brain processes information differently when you write by hand vs the computer, but I think it's a very worthwhile method, even if it takes longer. Anyways, good luck with your book! It was really interesting to hear about your process and methods. I just came across your channel via the algorithm and I can't wait to see more from you.
