  • Chris Ravn, Jay Ferrara, and Alex Sorensen fought this 487 pound thresher shark for over 5 hours. They had spotted its tail about 300 yards from a Hamptons beach, and pitched it a live bunker.
I launched my drone from shore that morning to investigate the bunker schools. They were being terrorized by brown and spinner sharks. I got a surprise call from my friend Chris, who happened to be perusing the same schools. He called me up from the "SeaRavn" to say he saw a giant thresher tail a short while ago and that I should launch my drone. Alex was fighting what they thought was a brown shark at the time; Chris was busting his chops for taking so long to reel in this small shark. I flew around searching for the thresher, to no avail, until my battery died.
It might've been an hour later when Chris called again, exclaiming "Alex has been hooked up to the thresher shark this whole time!" I told him to keep in touch when they were going to land it, and I'd try to capture the critical moments from the sky.
Jay called me a few hours later and said "I think it's time." I flew out and filmed the end of the fight.
Once they had it lassoed, I saw them celebrate on my screen. A few seconds later, I heard their loud cheers on the beach. Chris calls me and goes "did you get that?!"
"I got the whole fu**in' thing man!!"
Congrats on an epic catch boys.

The shark was depressed and suicidal. The shark was intent on dying despite your best efforts to lose it.

Sad end to a beautiful animal which could live up to 50 years of age. For what, exactly? Impressive drone footage, regardless.

Threshers are great to eat. Taste very similar to Chilean seabass. Also, a fish that size rarely survives a fight that long

so many mistakes, 5 hours for a thresher?! not tying the fly gaff properly, waiting to lead the fish forward to gaff and tail rope. once roped the fish should have been dispatched with a shell in the head.

Nice drones footage but what’s waste of a magnificent fish. When will we learn to stop killing/ hunting for pleasure!!!

You eat thresher sharks what are you talking about. And who are you to judge what is a waste to another man? As long as the body is being used the full potential and it’s not just killed and thrown away which really never happens

@@lukec3070 we don’t need to hunt for pleasure. Maybe you should be on the other end of the line!!
