1:35 BRO, I literally JUST finished submitting my essay comparing Akechi in Persona 5 Royal’s Third Semester to Dorian in “The Picture of Dorian Gray” for the last year of MY high school English course, MINUTES before clicking on this video in my subscription feed. What are the odds??
I'm actually a little mixed on Royal's new content. the Third Semester is really good, but I feel like the themes start to conflict with what P5 Vanilla wanted to talk about. honestly, the Third Semester is such in interesting topic that I'm surprised that they didn't save it to use for Persona 6.
@@MythicMachina it never conflicted with what P5 wanted to talk about, escapism and revolution never go hand in hand. In order to be vigilant in your struggle for change you must be in tune with the real world, ignoring reality never got humanity far (the dark ages was basically everyone immersing themselves into their favorite fantasy book collection and killing anyone that said it sucked).
I think one reason I found that p5 hit home the whole idea of "you can't do everything" harder than the rest is because of how it handles Joker. In persona 4 and persona 3 especially, even though the message is still present, the protagonists have so much control and talent it felt to me like more of a power fantasy than a situation to relate to at any level. In persona 3 and 4, the protagonist is frequently put in a position where they are supposed to seem better than the rest of the team. With Joker, he felt like more of a natural part of it. He wasn't credited for solving every problem in the social links, and he didn't singlehandedly lead the thieves to victory against the final battle of Royal. Joker CAN'T do everything. He can't solve all the problems, he doesn't master everything immediately, and he can't stop the villain by himself. It's a humbling kind of relatability that brings a lot to the experience for me
The most important thing we learnt about this video is that Yakko is a Makoto man, but besides the joke I think this is one the best videos I've seen on Persona 5 Royal, everytime I hear the music I instantly get a rush of emotions remembering everything I did and saw in both my playthroughs that it makes me feel nostalgic about something that I played a little less than a year ago. What a coincidence! I finished the game yesterday and basically had the same experience as you even down to the room pacing during boss fights. Great video.
Loved your “Awakening” segment. It looked a bit silly, but there was self-irony to it, and the effects looked really solid. Plus, it’s nice to see someone invested in a game enough to make these sorts of fun little sequences. I’m also glad to know I’m not the only one who was touched so deeply by P5R, and especially it’s Third Semester - it really made me take my life more seriously. I can also relate to that part about guides worsening the experience - I remember my P4G playthrough not being as fun as it could’ve been because I read up on bosses ahead of time. And the “channeling a story you recently finished experiencing everywhere in your artistic exploits” thing too.
You seriously took your time making this video and it certainly shows. This is definitely your best video. The editing, the theme, the fucking essay itself. It reminded me of what i felt playing Persona 5 R and how amazing it was. Thank your for doing this
I never knew that a UA-cam video saying take your time based on a game that makes you take your time and have that time management make me realize on what I gotta do to properly achieve what I want. Thank you :)
Persona 5 has changed my life and this video hit hard. In a good way. In one week, I’m going in to get a diagnosis I’ve been seeking my whole life, all because I related to one persona character a little too much.
its funny what you said about how art can affect someone in their life if it hits in the right place at the right time, because I watched this video when it came out and didn't finish it cause my attention span goes crazy in a bad way. As I was listening to it just now the line you said at 20:50-21:00 it hit different cause I am at a crossroad in my life fr fr and I don't get to see people I was used to seeing almost everyday. Cause im trying to carve out my own path. I am very thankful that you made this video cause boy are my parents angy. I wish you lots of growth and success :)
You know, what you said at the beginning of the video really hit me. How you said that you had an insane amount of love for Persona but then it all just disappeared out of nowhere. Well I’ve been feeling that myself lately, but I’m also fighting it off. It’s like my love for the series is attempting to leave me, but I just can let go of it. Personally, I don’t want it to leave me as Persona has just done so much for me. It’s given me motivation, dreams, friends, and experiences which I would never have had in my own life. It’s inspired me to live a life that can make me as happy as how P5R made me. So I won’t stop fighting it. I’ll keep at it!
I've already spent 130 hours with Royal (haven't played any persona game before) and I still watched this vid. Every point you made is spot-on. The music, characters, gameplay, narrative are unmatched. And to think I only purchased this game last year just to wait for Ghost of Tsushima and Cyberpunk, little did I know that this would trump all of the games I played in 2020. FF7R comes close too. I feel so fortunate that these games were released to help us get through the pandemic.
I'm just finishing up my playthrough of Royal and I'm revisiting again just like you, and I have to agree, I've been paying attention to the smaller details and I've fallen in love with the game all over again. It's awesome to see someone just as passionate as me about video games and how impactful they can be in our lives, keep up the great videos!
P5 Royal is a game that will be in my heart for the rest of my life. It’s art style and motion design blew me away, and the story made me teary eyed. A game that showed me to “take the world”
I had never played any persona games before, but I heard about them and thought I'd enjoy it so I bought a PS4 just so I could play persona. I finally tried Persona 5 Royal in February and I'm still playing it now. I've been in therapy for a few years and doing trauma therapy too. I've had panic attacks and anxiety, and fear of being around lots of people. Futaba's story felt so similar to me, especially because I was her age when my anxiety problems started. It's really amazing how this video game can feel so personally moving to so many people. It's not exactly the most deep or profound game but seeing these characters overcome their personal struggles to find themselves and their own inner strengths, gives me a lot of inner strength and motivation too. Of course it's also a freaking fun game too! I think it's so cool you made an lit comparison between persona and other works of fiction and I'd honestly love to hear what you compared it with!! Loved the video as always!
Yakko, I just want to say thank you, your review got me to try p5 in 2017 and I bounced off in kamoshidas palace, but in 2020 with nothing to do and just losing a long relationship, I came back to actually play it through and it saved me, I met new friends through it, and it was my favourite game at the time, then when I got royal at Christmas and played it through January on hard this time I cried multiple times and genuinely think it is my 100 per cent favourite story ever with some of my favourite characters in a story ever. I would have never met a ton of friends, never got through lock down and might not even be here without your videos leading me to persona originally, even if dropped it then. Thank you so much Yakko. Also, Glad, you mentioned the achievements, I'm like 2 away from a platinum on royal and I'm hoping to get it done on NG+ and the achievement changes felt perfect for what p5 is
just had the pleasure of finally playing through this game last month and you’ve really made me appreciate it all the more now. but now I wanna put in another 100 hours so I’ll never forgive you
Yo that's so crazy, my first persona game was persona Q2! Nice to know I'm not the only one who's starter point was that weird little series Also Our Light absolutely makes me cry every time, to the point I can't listen to it in public for fear of tearing up
Damn. You’ve almost convinced me to get back into the game. I played the original in a very busy time of my life and almost resented it for how long it took to complete. Looking back on it with this new insight could really change it for me.
Amazing. That's all I can say for this video. The Persona series (especially 4) were, truly, a way to escape reality for me. It took me years to realize that the beautiful social experiences they lived were not that far away from reality and I could get something similar. I didn't get a harem of cute girls or cognitive powers, but I was able to make my very first best friend and do social activities I had only seen in games and movies. This video has to be my top 3 for favorite vids on this platform, thank you so much for being passionate about Persona and videogames in general.
This video is art, dude, seriously great job. The editing is phenomenal. I absolutely love how passionate you are when discussing games like this. Couldn't agree more with all of your points about how meaningful artforms can be to people, and no one should ever be torn down for having their life changed by art. Keep on keepin' on my dude.
Really fantastic video. As a small content creator myself, your content always manages to inspire me. It's very clear how much time and thought goes into everything in your videos-from the scripts to the transitions to the editing in general-really superb stuff. So, keep up the amazing work!

this video really reflects my experience between playing the original 5 and royal! you really summed it all up perfectly on how i feel about it and just how refreshing i felt playing it. tho i played it faster cause of my current condition it was still a refreshing take on an already amazing game
I found about you not so long ago, but oh boy will I be here for a while, Some of the best moments of my life have been playing video games, and in some of the worst ones video video games made me keep going, they are very important to me and watching your videos makes me feel at home or something like that, your love for video games is something I don't find very often anywhere else, so please, keep doing what you do, coming here from time to time sort of helps to Deming me of who I truly am in some aspects when I get lost in myself or just to reassure what I want to do with my life, seeing people like you motivates me to an extent I cannot put into words, thank you.
your point about experiencing persona 5 without a guide resonated with me a lot, i thought about using a guide for p4g when it released on steam but i decided that i just wanted like A More Real Experience i guess it made me enjoy the game a lot more

You seriously took your time making this video and it certainly shows. This is definitely your best video. The editing, the theme, the fucking essay itself. It reminded me of what i felt playing Persona 5 R and how amazing it was. Thank your for doing this
my god, how i've missed your persona themed edits. this is your best one yet yaggo
I never knew that a UA-cam video saying take your time based on a game that makes you take your time and have that time management make me realize on what I gotta do to properly achieve what I want. Thank you :)
recently replayed p5r after first playing it at the start of this year, and it was just as good as the first time. 200+ hours and I’d play it again
"Finishing a 2-Hour Story can be more satisfying than one that's ten time as long", is way too ducking true
Man, you're making me want to play Persona 5 for a fourth time..
I finished Persona 5 for the first time today, and yes... this is gonna be one of these kind of nights.
You deserve much more love Yakko, this video truly took my time, like the game as well.
Both ended up in my favorites
That was officially one of the best openings I've ever seen on UA-cam. Bravo, sir. Bravo
When Yakko said "video games are pretty dang cool," I felt that.
Also, Glad, you mentioned the achievements, I'm like 2 away from a platinum on royal and I'm hoping to get it done on NG+ and the achievement changes felt perfect for what p5 is
just had the pleasure of finally playing through this game last month and you’ve really made me appreciate it all the more now. but now I wanna put in another 100 hours so I’ll never forgive you
I love the editing on this video, the interrogation with Sae, the awakening, it's incredible how much effort you put on this
Yo that's so crazy, my first persona game was persona Q2! Nice to know I'm not the only one who's starter point was that weird little series
Also Our Light absolutely makes me cry every time, to the point I can't listen to it in public for fear of tearing up
Watching this video was... oddly wholesome (?) like I feel all warm and peaceful inside. What a nice feeling to fall asleep to, thanks Yakko!
Yakko really does have that energy. it's nice seeing a UA-cam channel be so positive with it's videos and messages
i am a simple, i see persona 5 i L I K E.
When the loading screen says "take your time", its NOT lying
When Yakko uploads a straight banger: 6:01
Damn. You’ve almost convinced me to get back into the game. I played the original in a very busy time of my life and almost resented it for how long it took to complete. Looking back on it with this new insight could really change it for me.
That awakening gave me a lot of Scott Pilgrim vibes, I love it
genuinely enjoyed this video so so much!!! so glad you showed up on my recommended :>
10:35 I didn't know the game had cutscenes for when you fail to complete a deadline, and now I wish I still didn't!
This video has to be my top 3 for favorite vids on this platform, thank you so much for being passionate about Persona and videogames in general.
yakko just release the essay as a sub goal, that’ll get people to subscribe
Marvelous job as always
Man, I knew you never did things by half-measures, but this whole video is something else. Bravo.
I’ve been the same way with P5 Strikers/Scramble, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to finally play it :)
I love how the music playing during the part about imperfection is the ideal and the real
This more cinematic than any movie ever.
Really fantastic video. As a small content creator myself, your content always manages to inspire me. It's very clear how much time and thought goes into everything in your videos-from the scripts to the transitions to the editing in general-really superb stuff. So, keep up the amazing work!
In a world of pure stress your video gave me a moment of peace
Thank you so much, genuinely from the bottom of my heart for making a hilarious and entertaining video that made me smile so much, royal probably is my favorite game of all time and in just a few days one of my best friends will play royal for the first time since he can finally borrow my PS4 and at first I was going to give him tons of tips but you saying persona 5 is best experienced blind/imperfectly hit me so hard and the only thing I think I'll help him with now is just a couple of battle tips, thank you for making such an awesome video and putting into words just how much this game means for you, I hope this video reaches a ton of people and so many more people can give this game a shot and really take their time with it.
this video really reflects my experience between playing the original 5 and royal! you really summed it all up perfectly on how i feel about it and just how refreshing i felt playing it. tho i played it faster cause of my current condition it was still a refreshing take on an already amazing game
Fantastic work, man.. I'm speechless
that editing gave me goosebumps HOLY SHI-
The editing is legendary
I found about you not so long ago, but oh boy will I be here for a while, Some of the best moments of my life have been playing video games, and in some of the worst ones video video games made me keep going, they are very important to me and watching your videos makes me feel at home or something like that, your love for video games is something I don't find very often anywhere else, so please, keep doing what you do, coming here from time to time sort of helps to Deming me of who I truly am in some aspects when I get lost in myself or just to reassure what I want to do with my life, seeing people like you motivates me to an extent I cannot put into words, thank you.
The editing is amazing!
This was made with such love and care, and it turned out so well! Good job yaggo!
Super good editing on this video, great script too.
8:53 wait, you can FISH??!?!?! guess i gotta give this game another playthrough. good review. very very entertaining
your point about experiencing persona 5 without a guide resonated with me a lot, i thought about using a guide for p4g when it released on steam but i decided that i just wanted like A More Real Experience i guess it made me enjoy the game a lot more
The more I watched yakko's videos, they always seem to get better.
This is the first video I've seen of yours and the editing is just incredible??? Sir, you didn't have to go this hard--
Hey yakko, you may not even see this comment but this video is a complete masterpiece, and it just helped me remember why you're one of my favorite creators ever. You deserve way more recognition than you have and I hope to be here with you to see you getting it. Absolute god-tier video my guy, and as always, take your time with them and you won't ever disappoint. (By the way, the overall message of this video was what I really needed to hear right now as I just entered college and I can't thank you enough for it. Thank you so much.)
Great writing; Royal made me fall in love with persona all over again and you pointed out alot of the reasons why. Good stuff!
Great video. I found this game 2 years ago, and it’s taken up considerable space in my psyche since. Every time I would see that “take your time” in the loading screen, I too, would remind myself to enjoy the ride. I’ll never be able to play the game again for the first time. But I’ll be damned if I didn’t appreciate every piece of my first play-through
I love how much hard work you put into this one. it looks great. no wonder it took forever to upload.
I just have one thing to say, thank you, you have helped me through some hard times and continue to make great content. This video is one of my favourite videos of yours, so continue doing what you enjoy 😊
dude?? this video is IT where are the VIEWS this is some of your coolest editing, pacing, and theming you’ve ever done, and that’s saying something! good shit, homie!!
i can express how much i love your content, and how much what you said on the game touch me, I do really love Persona 5 royal, and the game and it's final arc help me to understand something for the better, thanks for this video
