Thanks for the appreciation. Yes you need to update your OCI every time you renew your passport. Since you obtained it after the age of 50, there is no need for OCI reapplication. You only need to update it online.

Once we received confirmation email of OCI details with new passport updated. Do they email us some attachments pdf file which we need to carry while travelling to India.
No just the email. You can print that and also the application status page. That should be enough proof to carry. But if the status is updated they won't ask for it but good to carry them.

The checklist says duly signed application. Do you affix the physical photo on both the forms? Or on just 1 form? Or leave the photo in the packet since it is printed on the printed application?
I would suggest leave the photos in the packet.
For others, I affixed one photo and sent one with the application. For notary docus, you can simply sign it and that’s what I did.

Thank you for an informative video. I am going to India next week and I applied for new Canadian passport updation for my OCI and I got an email after submitting the application. But till now I have never received any conformation email from the consulate. I have checked the status and it shows that my information has been updated like you explained. I contacted VFS and even sent email to Vancouver office but nothing happened. Our local agent says that you take all these print outs and old Canadian passports when you travel to India. What do you think about it?
Thanks for the appreciation and support. I am in the same boat..I haven't received any email stating the changes are confirmed but the online status states that. I agree it's safe to take printout of all documents and old canadian passport as well.

Unfortunately its a long process. Try calling BLS for update or check Status on OCI website

Do i have to update (renew) my OCI after 1 year when i am 50 yrs or after 10 yrs (before my new passport is expired)? Thank you
As this is a border line case with your age so close to 50, I would suspect you would have to renew your OCI. To be on the safe side email BLS.

Yes it's only updated in the system. U will use current oci booklet with new passport. Only time a new oci booklet is issued is after age of 20 for kids and age 50 for adults.

It is being processed and will be updated soon." also what if we have to travel to India while it is still under process? Thanks
@ankushgupta25 It normally takes 6 to 8 weeks of processing time. You can travel to India while the application is still in process.

@sridharv3903 The first time you renew your passport after turning 50 you need to reapply. Everytime after that just update only.

How do you upload address proof ? I don’t see the option
For address change fill out another OCI update application and instead of selecting the passport update as reason select update of address. Also selct other in attaching the document for address proof. There is no specific bullet for it.
