  • Taken at the 第20回城西五区剣道連盟対抗親善剣道大会 on 2012-Mar-20. The video is a good example of how to defeat a senshu in Nitoryu. A good video to study should you fight against an Nitoryu senshu.
The white senshu scores a DO within the first 10 seconds into the match and then scores another DO and wins the shinai in less than 60 seconds.

    how
    its so impressive
he can hold the long shinai at the end of the grip
usually thats very tiring and can get really painful in a long time
    and its usually more heavy.
i recommend him to use the long shinai at the start of the grip because nitoryu is very offensive

Beautiful sport . Not all bloody and nasty . Fast as lightning.

Seems like the Red senshu had a very weak start on that first one. He was anticipating the men strike, trying to block before a debana. He then lowered his right hand, which was his downfall. It placed him in an opening for a hiki-men, which he tried to then guard, putting him in a weak stance for tsubazariai. If he had gone in or completed a strike on that kaeshi, he probably would have at least lasted a little longer in the match. Great speed by the white senshu, however. His dō is incredible!

Indeed you can't understand until you practice it.

well in my experience the right side, gyaku do, is actually harder to do and get points for cause you have to be able to be able to, theoretically speaking, cut through the sheath and the armor. So we are taught the left do strike, so most people are more comfortable hitting the left side. OR nito uses to hands (obviously) and the main is what swings the daito, the long shinai, because you have more confidence and control using your main hand, the shoto is in the off hand, which is harder to use

There are very specific points you have to hit to score. Plus in order to score it has to be done with the right technique. He probably didn't want to strike because there would be too much risk of his strike failing and opening him to a counter.

Break the stance. Split second go for unguarded flank because the opponent is left handed, reaction time is slower.

I can see that clearly from your comment where it said "openings". Try practicing kendo. it's fun and you will understand why.

I want to say, though, it might have been MUCH COOLER if one of the point was done with MEN.

@@danielkim2384 Hate to say this but i think the Do ippon is a cool type of ippon. Slicing through the side of the stomach!

Red senshu seems to not be used to tsubazariai in nitoryu, so hiki do is one of the most dangerous ippon for us nito player :)

Personally as a chudan player, I don’t think tsubatariai is a good strategy for against nito player. Since in real sword fight; nito fighter can use their shoto cut their opponents stomachs open. Tsubatariai is conflict with the principle of real sword.

not absolutely true. in the average rank you'r right but at the championships the strike is made in mostly a bit more the a second if not under

That is a wierd way the guy on the right is holding his sword. I don't doubt thats how it is supposed to be held in his martial art, but yeesh.

Actually, when you have the tatchi on your left hand, it is correct to hold on the bottom (agree it is weird because you can´t do that with a katana). Sometimes kendoka let the kodachi a little higher when the opponent is using a jodan but in this case i think the nitto kendoka just has not enough training.

I don't understand kendo, but why doesn't the guy on the right strike ? I saw so many openings :?

It's a point-based sport from what I understand. Just connecting strikes doesn't count.

He's just exploiting an evident weakness in the nitoka's kamae. It's easy to have a weak kamae in nito.

Because you know its like that stupid thing we did as kids, rub your tummy while patting your head, its hard for most people cause our brain just mess us up. Hopefully that was useful, its my opinion maybe he had some other reason, who knows.

This guy using NITTO has no idea of what to do.. he holds the TATCHI on the botton.. theres now way to do it with a real KATANA. He is a poor NITTO player.. since his RIGHT do is allways open due the position of the KODASHI, allways on the hi, protecting MEM.
He could have atacked the DO a thousand time, ans he didnt..
