As always, excellent work @ Retropower. Normally I'll turn the video sound off when UA-camr's put background music in, I love that "serenity" music you use for the non narrated portions of the vids involving complex metal forming or spray painting, just perfect, so relaxing. I love work, I could watch it for hours...
The modern day equivalent of Sunday watching the antiques roadshow.
Nice one! I'm greedy I watch both!
Only a lot more expensive
The Escort looks about right in that colour, used to see loads of them racing round Sutton one-way system in grey primer in the 80's!
Ahh my first car and the same paint ...but I had a tiny engine and an 8-track I loved it!!
The paint job and bodywork on this Mk 1 is a masterpiece of work like all your work, a credit to the workforce, bet Toms glad to look at the arches now with some paint on them 💪💪💪
That Escort is stunning , If i had kept all mine i would be a very rich man .
ME too, mine had flared arches roll cage Capri Engine, 2000E gearbox , but 1100L badges just for fun
Holy cow that Escort looks great painted.
Nice work lads!
Damn, Project One is looking absolutely superb, I bet that paint looks phenomenal in the sunlight. Glad you're getting somewhere with the power steering on the Morris too, those sorts of gremlins can be hugely frustrating.
Hi Retropower,
Would it be possible to have pictures showing the Escort and the big Charger in the paint booth. Which, because of the walls all the way round, would illustrate the amazing difference in size.
Love Churchill Jag the shape just looks so right.
36:11. Looks grey to me but then that's probably due to post processing and color grading.
Is that wire wheel hub/cv setup gonna be strong enough for that v8?
Just wonder if a digitiser tablet would be useful, then your cardboard template could be laid onto the digitiser and drawn round and imported into fusion 360
Be better with an A3 flatbed scanner, cameras add lens distortion. I’m not keen on digitizers if you can’t input using a crosshair puck.
Maybe it show on camera, but that's definitely GREY GREY GREY
Put the mug down please 😂
First thing you need to teach your new harness guy is don't lean on freshly painted cars with your sodding elbows!!!!
Escort - blue grey - grey blue looks like wet primer how disappointing.
I can't help seeing robot faces 😯
I'm very unpopular on a Sunday watching this, Harry's garage, tyrells garage and once a year badobsession binky updates.
Loving the work guys, I'm eagerly waiting to fall in love with the jenson. Love the mechanicals, love the carbon aspect and the render looks fab but on the jig its not doing much for me. Can't wait to see it in paint.
Suggest curry’s on Saturday, gives you some plausibility for spending 20 mins in the loo. Then take a bath to destress before work on Monday, that’s another hours UA-cam time… Or just do what I do and straight up tell her that you’d rather stick pins in your eyes than watch made in Chelsea, and go chill in a different room.
And Collecting addicts (my new fav)
Darkside developments
Harry's Farm
Tavaris
T.J. Hunt
Rick Beato.....
Sunday's are proper graft!!! 😂
As a retired painter, there's nothing worse than someone putting elbow dents or bum dents on the panels, the escort looks sick
hahaha .. I literally said out loud, ""Alex .. get the **** off the paint job"
I’ve got a question. Why didn’t Cal answer any questions this week? 😂
New man but leaning on fresh paint !! Just saying 😊
Alex will need to learn not to rest hos elbows on the top of the fenders 36.40 the metal and paint guys will really not like him
Hand crafted Cad generated parts sounds like a rather nice development to me. (Cutting edge edge cutting!)😊
Cutting edge edge cutting. haha, luv it
Sunday night complete ☕️👍🏻😂😉
The Morris seems to be illustrating the truth of "the last 10% of the job requires 50% of the effort".
I've always heard it that the last 20% takes 80% of the effort. 🙂
@@Rabblewitz It gets worse as you approach "completion:.
@@parrotraiser6541 Indeed! My long career has been in software development, and it's just as true there.
The music you play during the painting "montage" has become sort of iconic. I am so in awe of the level of detail to which you blokes go, it's almost embarrassing.
Must be hard painting top coat over primer when the top coat is primer grey.
Or was it just clear coat over primer? I’m sure that is what manufacturers are doing to save pennies, with the number of grey cars you see these days.
" ... Land Cruiser, saw that fire up for the first time. ... What we wanted to do straight after that first fire up.." I was so waiting for "Let's go off road!".
600 hp, 600lbf with wire wheels - rerspect!
Nice, as always. By the way, the blue does not come out at all on the Escort in the video. It just looks gray ... kind of like glossy primer. Personal preference ... not a color I'm fond of on a car. Let's see how it looks when it's done though, I might change my mind.
i think in the final shots the blue comes across pretty good. always hard to tell what colors look like until you get them outside.
Does anyone else ffw through the 2 mk1 escorts??
Its not the engineering as that’s amazing
Its not the fabrication because that’s second to none
ITS THOSE HIDEOUS ARCHES ,, i know it’s probably what the customer asked for but ,, im sorry,, they do nothing for a mk1
Mk2 jag is so good
Moggy looks mean
Land Cruiser came out excellent
Im on the fence with the cv8
Thanks for the answer, regarding the time spent on the escort arches, seeing the finished article in paint, they were worth every minute spent on them. They look perfect as though they were always meant to be there. You've got some bloody talented boys there..
That's some shiny primer you've put on that Escort.
Who got Hans Zimmer to compose the Spray job scene???!!! 👌👌👌
At first I wasn't a fan of the grey but then I too noticed some blue tinge in it. Well done!
Out of interest do you fit wheelarch liners to your cars? Great videos, thanks
Is that reflections showing in the gold leaf under the Morris bonnet or is it wrinkly? it looks really scruffy in the video and am sure you won’t let that go.
Yes I agree they are usually so precise this is not up to muster
Do many of your clients use PPF after the amount of effort gone into with those lovely paint finishes?
How have I not seen any of this from Retropower before! Absolutely stunning work. Loving the allegro project. The Escort looks incredible. Amazing
Jensen and Churchill are the superstars, what utterly stunning projects
Direct Gloss mk1? Nice.
I think it is .
I've personally found direct gloss polishes better than base coat and clear especially for black and it lays down better .I usually add clear 50/50 for the last coats .
I believe it's more UV resistant , harder wearing and less likely to polish through in areas like the engine bay also .
You have mentioned black anodise as a finish for various bits, in and out side. The dye is fairly light stable, but can go a nasty purple in strong sun. Many by years ago I worked for a finishing company, we sold a finish which was known as Small Arms Black. It was very good at resisting almost everything. It was just a matt black epoxy paint which we deliberately over cooked, forcing more cross linking. While epoxy would not be first choice for UV resistance, I’d guess it’s a shed load better than any anodising dye.
Like #70. You all do some lovely work !
Awesome as Always...Really cool vid thank you
Honda power steering fluid helped me fix many problems.
The CV8 Has to be the most expensive car you've ever put together. Amazing gents. A dream factory is what you're put together.
obviously the newly sprayed Escort is to your high standards, but the colour looks like primer on screen - the flop only visible in person?
Escort looks fantastic in that colour. I can’t wait to see what you do with the bronze features, sounds amazing.
Very strange choice that JBL speaker in the Land Cruiser. I think I prefer the discreetly hidden systems you have installed before.
Cardboard-aided CAD. Meta! I hope the Integro interior will be brown?
Love what you do
Now you have the body moulds for the CV8 could you manufacture a couple? Mondeo donor car? Guaranteed money spinner! I'll have one.
A question. When you build a new hydraulic systems don't you flush down to NAS 6 before you start up? Even fresh oil out of a drum is contaminated.
Why the heck does Goozquad have 41 times the number of subs as this one? It makes no sense to me at all.
It shows that people are not interested in doing things properly. They'd rather watch unprofessional rednecks hobbling stuff together, I just do not get it.
How attractive for your work are laser welders ? I was thinking about their lower propensity to distort panels, but price ....... ? Regards
The Escort has the same problem as the Morris. Too dark color for such a small car. Both colors are "good" as colors yes, but when layed on a small vehicle, the small vehicle simply disappears. The Morris purple looks magnificent on a Charger, and the Escort gray creates an eye catching presence on a modern Audi, but smaller cars need different colors to complement the smaller size. The Morris can be purple and the Escort can be gray, they just need brighter shade of purple and lighter shade of gray.
Power steering issues : A colleague of mine (working in film & tv related special effects) also does quite a bit of custom hydraulics. He uses servo valves that basically work with vary a fine slit size to control the power / position of actuators. He uses some bio hydraulic fluid and came to realize that actual material from the rubber pipes formed a fine fine silt and that could block part of the slot in the valve and lead to erratic behavior.
I used to work at a place that put together a few project cars and, after a belt buckle scratched one of the fenders, we took massive precautions to keep it from happening again. I cringe to see you guys working on these cars with amazing paint without blankets, tape over zippers and belt buckles or anything. Are you taking precautions that are not evident in the videos?
i am glad you did not choose pencil eraser gray. did not like it in the 90s (MB190). the blue tint is good. i also like the Toyota Tacoma gray with a hint of green in it.
Builds at the moment are breathtaking. Jensen starting to look special. Love the LC and Churchill is going to be amazing.
It's a Hondaustin Altegra.... I still like it. :)
OH NO now cars are becoming transbenders :)
Are you stretching the point a bit to claim your bubble arches are exclusive? Also some things you do are copied from other resto moders so surely fair to share things!
All the fantastic car out there ,someone picks an layland desaster !
Therapy needed ??
Guys this may well be a stupid question but how do you work out will this car be A/F or metric and what do you do with the Alegro? This show just blows me away can't help but marvel at your engineering. Cheers🇦🇺
I REALLY hope that shiny undercoat Escort has some bright coloured stripes and decals going on to finish it off.
I'm truly amazed that someone would spend so much money on a car as great as this will be, do then choose a non-colour finish for it😓
Thank you for sharing, greetings from Costa Rica!
Escort just needs a hand brushed black underseal tide mark upto the lower swage line to complete the look.
I don’t believe that after all the work you’re sending the car out the door in primer
Re the minor's power steering, tell the owner to man-up and grow some biceps
shoutout for the escort wheel arches. they fix everything that was ever wrong with the rear wheel arches on the mk1.
That E Type is going to be stunning.. Beautiful. 😊
That escort is stunning !
My weekly dose of great car video ! 🎉🎉🎉
Not sure about the colour for the escort a bit boring in my opinion
Will you be fitting a d shape steering wheel in the alegro ?
All to there own but Escort colour is so wrong
But who am I.
Another classic being brought back to life brilliant 🇬🇧
I always think that restored Escort Mk.1's look slight awkward outside the original Ford colours with my favourite being Le Mans Green - my Dad worked for Ford and his company car was a 1974 Mexico in LM Green with 4 Cibies and white Ford Rallye Sport decals on each side). The arches are clearly a work of art and you won't see better metalwork (absolute credit to Tom for a supreme effort) but for my tastes nowadays (in my late 50's) they appear a tad strong and slightly too reminiscent of the iconic Fast & Furious car but let's see what emerges. I much prefer the understatement of the Retropower Gordon Murray Mk.1 but you pay your money and you make your choice. For what it's worth I actually think the grey/blue paint mix is spot on here on my screen. However, the wheel choice and colour will almost certainly make or break the final look; Retropower are not in the car business, they're in the dreams business.
It continues to enjoy your work!
Like the escort colour but I think the wheel arches do not suit the car.sooner put Forrest arches on
Love that Jensen!
So you clear coated the primer?
Thanks so much for the painting sequence of the Escort.. Such quality behind the camera.
Respect for your exclusivity policy - I'm sure it builds strong relationships with your customers. Like art collectors, your customers come to you for a unique product - an interesting spin, given the mass market beginnings of some of these vehicles
The Honda wheels look so much better on the Allegro. Minilite wheels are so boring these days and keeping the Honda wheels harks back to the BL/Honda partnership what this car essentialy is!
Is that a single stage for the escort?
16:00 the drive shaft is the upper wishbone????????? Please explain
Not really wishbone but it acts in parallel with the lower arm and keeps the vertical alignment of the wheel hub in check. So its responsible for more than just drive load. Its actually also the upper control arm. It is a fixed length with UJ crosses rather than a sliding DOJ or spline.
The old Mk2s sir, they all do that.
Wow! Excellent color choice on Escort! Good luck with PS on Morris!
That grey escort looks amazing 😮❤
2 questions, both paint related. How long do you let the paint cure for before you are happy to lean on it (as you are seen doing to the escort straight after painting)? And do your paint guys ever get a drip? What's your process for dealing with one? 😅 Keep up the great work.
I was a bit alarmed to see that too!
The new guy electrician gives no fux
Can you do an hour long video of the car spraying / classical music ❤ and...... half the speed of the sprayers to make it fit better please.... best bit of my bath that was 😂
Good evening gents
Well from the colour I think the owner of the Escort must be Nik from Bad Obsession Motorsport
Churchill Jag has had so much new steel added, that it’s going to weigh as much as it’s namesake Tank! Hate the grey paint on the Escort by the way. I believe the owner is going to regret being on the end of a certain fad for this colour. Porsche have a lot to answer for leading on this colour on the 992 launch vehicles.
Got to agree grey boring
Yus FIRST!! 😊
