Alan Rickman once said he doesn't play evil characters. He plays interesting characters. I think he was a truly thoughtful man and realised that, although Rupert might have drawn it in poor taste as a child, it was something they'd be able to laugh about later when he was older.
I've written five fan letters in my life. Two of them were for this pair. Rupert sent a letter back which was very sweet, Alan's manager or whatever sent back a blurb about how Alan was too busy to respond lol. I regret nothing. What a cute interaction.

Most of the cast on this film had fun and they got to know one another like family. I believe that Rickman really appreciated Rupert's attempt to emulate and immortalize a fellow actor whom he looked up to and I personally think that they are both wonderful actors.
We can see his talent in “Love, Actually,” “Blow Dry,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves,” “Dogma,” “Truly, Madly, Deeply,” “Galaxy Quest” (voice), “Bottle Shock,” “Something the Lord Made” and a lot more. The last one I listed is surprisingly good, though I loved his role in “Dogma”.
I worked with Alan Rickman in 1979. Very nice fellow. I was a kid, but he was very considerate towards me as he was the star and director of the play in which I had a very minor part. He was actually a gifted artist too.
I hope Rupert saw that clip of Alan saying that about his drawing at some point. I bet that made him not only laugh but feel better about the situation. If he found out after Alans passing, I’d imagine that was very emotionally conflicting for rupert. A mix of nostalgia, joy, and sadness.
