We have a 2019 Macan Base and we just bought a 2024 BMW X3 S Drive. These SUVs are two different animals. The Porsche Macan drives like a sports car, handles amazingly. It is quiet and comfortable. The new 2024 BMW X3 S Drive is very quiet, comfortable and it has more updated infotainment features (wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and CarPlay, upgraded Harman Kardon audio, panoramic sunroof, 21" tires. Amazingly my out the door price for the Porsche Macan back in September 2019 was close to $55,000 ($51,000 plus fees). We paid about the same price for a well equipped 2024 BMW X3 S Drive in October 2023. (A new base Porsche Macan costs around $65,000 nowadays). So In comparison, the brand new BMW X3 S Drive is a much better value when viewed under the options and interior amenities prism. The Porsche Macan is spartan but sportier in demeanor when compared to the BMW X3, which my wife will be driving. She loves her new BMW X3 ride by the way it's definitely more luxurious! Also, the BMW X3 offers more usable space inside vs. the Porsche Macan, with more back seats leg room and a bigger cargo volume with the back seats folded down. The interior space of the Porsche Macan is cramped compared to the new BMW X3.
Just bought an X3 yesterday and the features it has are overwhelming for a non tech person as myself. Dealer ran through the functions with their tech specialist who showed us how to park hands free. While I acknowledged to him that "I got it", in all actuality that demonstration went in one ear and out the other, so I will be counting on persons like yourself to post "how to videos" on all these bells and whistles.
I agree the 2024 X3 display settings are convoluted, not user friendly. It's best to fiddle and familiarize yourself with the features of your vehicle while parked. Don't try it while driving!😅
Hi Ben! I think your review here should have also included a drive and a comparison of the base Macan. Being that I have owned both. 22 X3 and 19 Macan S The BMW has better tech, both drive great. Macan drives and feels more like a sports car. I feel the Macan has better materials ( leather, the sound of the door closing, paint,etc) You do have to compare apples to apples.. M40i to the Macan S .. or Base to 30i 40i has more horsepower but Macan feels faster. I drove 2 BMW x30i before switching to 40i. Great on gas and smoother then the 40i. I find since Macan feels more like a sports car it it not as smooth. Love the Porsche look and feel, but miss my tech on my tech and gas mileage on my X3. Macan is a drivers car. Puts a smile on my face especially with the Bose system 😊
I hear there are changes coming. This design is at the end of it's life (old looking). I have been a 35 year BMW owner and I have recently been looking to purchase a new SUV. Looked at and test drove the Genesis V70 , BMW X3 XDrive 3.0i with "M" package and the Macan S. I went with the Porsche due to the design and performance metrics.
Can anyone add what they are getting for discounts on a new purchase? Edmunds says about $2600 off msrp is average price paid but struggling to find a dealer willing to order 1 at that price.
Me tooo!! I ended up with the 23 X3M40i. I love the grand coupe still. I might lease it after this one , but I hear the new x3 will be very nice so I might end up getting that lol

Agreed. Our Macan definitely drives and handles like a sports car. The 2024 BMW X3 (which we just purchased) is more luxurious and laid back in demeanor. Two different vehicles.
I’ve had mine for three years, no problems. Consumer Reports rates them in the top tier. Four years warranty, three years free maintenance. After that can be a little costly to service, but no where near as costly as my 2018 Porsche Macan’s thre year servicing at $650! You give up a little in handling, but gain in ride, storage and cost to operate. Don’t write it off, it’s a worthwhile alternative!
I beg to differ, I bought a 2019 x3 brand new and it now has 150k on it and I’ve only done regular maintenance on it. Probably one of the best cars I’ve ever owned.

Go back to your dealer and tell them to show you again and slow down.

I'd go X4, but like you said - it's just a styling preference.
You should mention that the front seats do extend out for people with long legs to make driving and riding more comfortable.

I have a 23 x3M an I’m 6’1 and it’s perfect for me,but I am a skinny 6’1 person s,o I can’t speak for a big 6’1 person.
I’m 6’ 4” 1/2 and it’s perfect.
