Bonanza was riding high in the ratings when the TV show Maverick decided to have a little fun with it in an episode called “Three Queens Full.” Jack Kelly is Bart Maverick and he has to deal with the Cartwrights...I mean Wheelwrights when they ask him to keep an eye on their new mail order brides in this classic comedy episode.

5:09 That's Harry Lauter hanging out! That guy was in so many of these shows! I first saw him when I was a little kid. We went to the drive-in and saw a double feature, "It Came From Beneath The Sea", and "Creature With The Atomic Brain". He was in both movies! After that, Harry showed up often on TV westerns. He was in the U.S. Army in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" uncredited(as he was often uncredited) early in the movie as the platoon leader. Many times in was in shows with another familiar face, Myron Healey. This is a funny, funny, Maverick. I want to see the entire episode!

I am a big fan of Westerns and as a kid regularly watched them on TV back in the 1960s. I had heard about the Gunsmoke spoof but I had no idea that the Maverick show had also spoofed Bonanza !! This looks hysterically funny - hope to catch it someday. Thanks for the info - it’s much appreciated.

You might be interested in seeing the revival of Maverick in 1981. James Garner returned to the role for the first time in almost 20 years. It only ran for 1 season. It's currently running on GET-TV.
FTR The Monkees also did a light spoof of Bonanza (being the villains of the episode) in Season 2. The episode was "Monkees in Texas" in which they protect Mike's Aunt's ranch from local bad guys. The spoof comes in the form of a neighboring family, The Cartwheels, made up of patriarch Ben, and two sons Mule and Little Moe (Adam's doppleganger wasn't present since that character had left Bonanza by then).

Thanks, I will definitely look them up! I watched the first episode of the 1981 Maverick a few months back, I liked that they used Rockford's old pal Angel in it.

I did not usually take to Westerns. In fact if it wasn't Bonanza or Big Valley I despised them until I about 20 years ago and I discovered Maverick. The series was brilliantly written, perfectly acted. The spoofs were the surprise icing on the cake. Btw: my name is Teri. I used my last husbands account. Can't remember the password on my own. Lol. Oh, my favorite was definitely Jack Kelly as Bart. Idk why the powers that be completely ignored the fact that the ratings would go up on the episodes that he appeared in. He should have been a bigger star. But it is what it is.

And that was beautiful and Jim Backus really come on when he said that in the end I wouldn't have cared about the rest of the show just to hear him do his Magoo I used to use that term or I should say my friends and I used to use that term for stupid blind people not physically blind but mentally they were Magoo's that's a good spoof I watched both of those shows religiously and Gilligan's Island and all of the shows and I never saw that well I might have but I'd forgotten about it good on you
