One reason: credit. Push the problems away. Also rent and groceries are a tad bit higher but it’s not as bad as the media portrays it to be. Yes people are saving less on average but it still hasn’t reached unreasonable prices. People can still survive you just won’t have as much disposable income as you used to.
I have Amex for 35 years since I signed up @ MSU and they cannot convince me to pay for annual fees or anything else. I'm used to waiting for my flight at the gate, without WiFi, because I usually review my itinerary and have a snack i brought before flight! In Dubai, if tour connecting flight is over 5 hours, they provide free buffet from the emeritus restaurant, by showing your boarding pass. In Paris, since June 2019, CDG has a new airport free lounge for long transit passengers with lots of space to chill, free WiFi, which is only a short airport train shuttle away. It's only for passengers with boarding pass. I booked a 12 hours transit between flights, to go to the city and meet my parisian friend for munch before I flew to Istanbul 😊
That's some false advertising. I've had the sapphire reserve for over 8 years and never ventured onto that airport. Hard to do if living on the west coast and not going through some layover through NY (still hasn't happened). Priority Pass is a scam nowadays as well since all lounges I've visited in multiple locations are full or a shell of what they used to be 8 years ago. Card specific lounges are not a selling point for anyone getting the Sapphire Reserve, Capital One Venture X, or Amex Platinum.

Amtrak and Greyhound. I haven't heard much reports like this with those transportation companies.
