He was probably more than that...he was very well educated, read books on math and engineering and science, and has a pretty good understanding about the knowledge of the world. @@Crusader47 the movie was fine, the reason it gets called bad is all the self proclaimed history experts online who just assume that every aspect of napoleons life must have been as cool and extravagent as his military victories. the truth is that he was a weird dude, and the only people who liked him were his soldiers. he looked weird, he was awkward, women avoided him, he would stutter when talking in a normal conversation, etc. the only thing he was ever truly good at was inspirational speaking before an army, and thats what led to his short lived victories. the movie is one of the most historically accurate films about french history ever made.

This scene in real life is even more incredible than in the movies because he actually orders the soldiers to shoot him. He comes forward and opens his jacket saying: “Well if you don’t recognize me, shoot me!”. The phrase was noted by many witnesses. He dares to do it in front of 2000 soldiers! And the pressure shot works beautifully.
could've been a good movie but too bad the director wanted to portray Napoleon as a narcissistic man child that had no control of his emotions instead of the great leader he was in real life.
