Don’t pursue Hollywood, pursue telling stories you’re passionate about and collaborate with indie film makers. Just because your film doesn’t go international doesn’t mean you’re not a story teller. Keep up the good content man people are inspired by you.
I just have to say thank you for all of your screenwriting advice. Your explanation about philosophical conflict was a breakthrough for me to truly understand character motivation and what drives my characters to act and forces them to change inside their worlds. Follow your heart. You'll be alright. Your personal journey is far from over 😊.
Please don't delete your content tho, it's gold, it helps me a lot even if I don't try to go to hollywood I'm writing comics 👀🇫🇷 And good luck to anything you decide to do
Considering what we have had our eyes opened to about what goes on in Hollywood, I can understand why you feel this way and are going in this route. I still think your screenwriting and storytelling advice is invaluable for those who will want to continue the dream of storytelling and filmmaking by doing so through independent means.
Hey man, good luck - seems like you're going through the beginning of a spiritual awakening, I know exactly what you're talking about here, been there before. I hope you take care and stay grounded, it can get really overwhelming going through it alone, but it's a rewarding experience opening up your soul slowly. also: if you ever started a new channel, it would be great too, I'm sure many of us would enjoy it. anyway, happy new year, brother!
I "made it" as a tv writer. Worked for 6 years as an assistant to get to that point. Wrote for 2 Netflix shows and 1 Showtime show. Used a lot of your videos, Tyler, to help me understand the principles of storytelling. So, thank you for all you've done for me and so many others. This past September, after my 30th birthday, I left Hollywood for the exact same reasons. The impact I want to have on the world didn't seem to be possible in Hollywood. And it was corroding my soul to keep pursuing other forms of success in that industry. So, I left to follow God, and help mentor college students as they're learning to following Jesus at such a pivotal time in life. I made the right decision. And so did you, Tyler.
@@dvforever I hear you. I always thought that Christians need to be more involved in making good films, in order to spread their/our beliefs (and if you're reading this and claim that filmmaking/art isn't about spreading beliefs: Hollywood has been spending billions over the past 20 years to promote their beliefs. You can't make art without at least subconsciously injecting your belief system into it). I think Tyler might be thinking that Hollywood is dying, as in, it's not the primary method to spread beliefs anymore. Christians wanted to make movies/TV like "God's Not Dead" or "The Chosen" to help spread their beliefs, but they're actually now investing tens of millions of dollars into a now secondary, less influential market. Ideas are primarily now spread online, not through film. So Christians should actually focus more on engaging with people online, and less with making films... and it costs way less, as well. I'm wondering if that's the realization he's been coming to? I've had these similar thoughts recently, so, I may just be projecting that onto him.
Whoa, whoa, he didn’t say anything about Christianity. You can talk about Spirituality and your connection to Source, All That Is, God, Great Spirit, whatever and not walk into a church or mention Jesus once.
I totally relate to your experience, as a screenwriter in my own country (France). I hope you will not let Hollywood dry up your passion for storytelling altogether. It’s so much bigger than that… Your content is incredible, and relevant with or without Hollywood. How about expanding it to something bigger and integrating your calling for transcendance into your expertise? In addition to your « engineer’s approch» to writing (which is tremendously helpful to us) how about also exploring things like inspiration, style, originality, individual expression and the mysteries of artistic creation as a whole? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You are the protagonist on your own journey. Your arc is leading you from pursuing what you want to finding out what you really need. You just hit a plot point in that journey.
Good on you man! As a Christian and an aspiring storyteller, I feel the frustration with how modern day entertainment functions. Decided years ago to take a normal job and work on my passion projects on the side in my own time. I hope you find what you're looking for, and I'm looking forward to hearing what you decide to create next
Tyler, I feel you. Hollywood is dying. I studied animation, animation industry is dying, too and changing to more indie I believe. And maybe it should die to change for the better. You are an inspiration! Let’s tell our stories in some other way. Take care and stay healthy, that’s what matters the first, and Happy New Year!
i love your writing advice and do your own thing. im proud of you in doing a healthy change even though it may hurt your original goals in life. you can do different storys and how they impact us through biblical/ religous text. keep up with the hard work and most importantly give yourself time to process the change. thank you for helping me have the courage to continue to write my book.
For what it's worth I subbed way back in the early days of your channel. At the time I just wanted to get better at storytelling in general, but during the pandemic I was furloughed and my wife and I decided to go ham on independent game development for a little while. The content you made was invaluable in helping us craft better narratives. It wasn't totally smooth sailing of course, I bounced back and forth between real jobs and my own projects or a few years, but as of last year we managed to pay off our mortgage and quit our soul crushing careers to do something creatively fulfilling full-time for a change. I can honestly say that I'm more at peace now than I've ever been before. As it turns out the vacuum left by Hollywood's ongoing creative bankruptcy meant that there was a huge untapped market of people craving good stories. We just needed to find them in our own way. At any rate thanks for the screenwriting content, it has been transformative.
Can't wait to see what topics you'll be posting about in the months/years to come. Thank you for all your hard work and sharing with us your knowledge in story telling. Being called to something higher than yourself is a natural part of self growth. It's awesome to see that you've come to understand there are things that take precedence over what you've focused on in the past. If you love story telling and wish to continue, i'm sure God will guide you where you need to go...perhaps in a direction you never knew existed. 🙃
I have loved your content for a very very long time. I am a narratologist in part because of you, but in my narratological journey, I have found that everything is story. It isnt just creativity and Hollywood. Narrative structure is how our minds structure information. So I deeply encourage this new journey you are on, but I would also encourage you to see the story that it is.
@@TylerMowery If you ever want to chat how narratology forms everything you want to talk about let me know. I know I am pushing my narratological journey this year by supporting everyone I can in their storytelling journeys.
amen 🙏🙏i'm just starting to learn how to tell stories (and in fact just found this channel) and i'm so thankful for reminding me to keep Jesus above everything else i do
Welcome to the other side. You've got to this place much younger than many, so give yourself congratulations for making that progress. I look forward to seeing where your good character takes you from here. 👊
Tyler, your stuff has been very transformative to me and I incorporate it into my own stuff quite a bit. Yours, StudioBinder, and LocalScriptMan are the three best channels on story out there. Do your thing, but please don't stop talking about story. Your perspectives make the rest of us better!
Lived in Hollywood for 8 years writing scripts and focusing my life like a laser for the pursuit of getting movies made. It hit me hard having to give that up when living there was becoming more unbearable and how unrealistic it was to get a movie made in that environment
I am sorry it’s been a struggle for you and I am absolutely wish you the best success in whatever ya do, but if this is about to transition into an apologetics channel I’m definitely not staying. You’re a skilled story teller and have some great insights. Hollywood isn’t the only path for that skill set, but I recommend you start a separate channel if you’re gonna make religious content. That’s not what people followed for and a lot of us are TIRED of getting hit with the proselytizing at every twist and turn. Just some feedback. Obviously you can do what you want. I just subscribed for Tyler the awesome story teller and writer, not Tyler the evangelist.
I accepted I likely wouldn't have a "Career" in writing in my 30s.........................I still write even as I'm about to turn 42, because F---- haters that won't read, but one day, they'll find the books I left behind because they were the stories that RAGED to be read. I'm not a "Professional Author/Screenwriter"..............but I will die a storyteller because that's where my life led me.
Hey Tyler! Excited to hear about the new direction for the channel (Not that I didn't like the old content, but I'm happy to hear thoughts that you're passionate about). If you're looking for community for other creatives, may I humbly suggest Hutchmoot, hosted by The Rabbit Room? I think you may like it. Hutchmoot, as described by their podcast, "celebrates art, music, story, and faith, and all their many intersections." Andrew Petersen, who founded the Rabbit Room and co-founded Hutchmoot, has been one of the best examples (especially in current times) of one creating art inspired by the Good, the True, and the Beautiful (Check out his any of his albums or his children's series: The Wingfeather Saga). Also, Hutchmoot meets in Nashville! Keep up the good work!
I support your change of path. I'm sure that's a natural evolution that good storytelling should you lead to, cuz good stories are sth more that just interesting plot and cool characters (Hi from Eastern Orthodox church, i know you are in another confession, but nevertheless I'm glad you made that step with your channel, keep up brother)
I'm a novel writer - epic fantasy writer - and you have been a wonderful inspiration and source of information about constructing stories. But I totally get what you mean, I'm setting up a new company for creatives who want to connect with deeper human meaning through the arts - creativity and emotion that can't be replicated by AI or sold back to us by transnational companies wanting to exploit writers. What's happening in the world is intense and people like you are needed for humanity get through it.... just saying so you know you're valued by people out here ❤🙏
Even though you’ve quit I just wanna say thank you for all your advice on screenwriting over the years. I was never planning on becoming a screenwriter (or at least not for a Loooooong time), but I’ve always wanted to tell stories which is what you and many other channels have helped me with. Whether it’s for the big screen or not, it never mattered. I just wanted to tell epic stories that I wanted to bring to life. (Who knows, maybe I will publish a book or make a movie/show one day) Thank you Tyler for everything. Good luck!
Hey Tyler, hope you find more fulfillment down this new path. But don't let go of your screenwriting roots please! This is what Tim Urban said about careers in the arts: "I met many aspiring artists in my early 20s. Observing their trajectories since then, I've learned that long-shot careers in the arts (famous singer, actor, songwriter, filmmaker, etc.) are long shots not because success relies on wild luck or rare genius or insane connections. Success stories pretty reliably happen for people who combine three not-that-remarkable things: solid talent, savvy business sense, 15-20 years of persistent hard work. It's just that most people only pull off one or two of those things and not all three."
The devil is a lie. Overnight success usually takes a minimum of ten years in Hollywood and it’s always been a game of leverage, luck, networking, and craft. Bidding wars for screenplays still exist. Also, your place is huge for Los Angeles! The rent for that would make me nervous too! Keep your head up and never quit! Diversity yourself always. Time to become a master at financing and distribution. The industry only eats off a percentage of an artist. Figure out a way to make yourself worth an amount of money that would make them want to eat off you.
You don’t need Hollywood. It’s been dead for a long time. Gen Z don’t care about Hollywood, and most likely, all the generations to come won’t either. Put your art out there anyway, don’t wait. Indie movies, short films with a message, whatever you put out there will be great. At least you get to control the narrative! Good luck! You’ve already made a great impact.
I don't even write screenplays, but I found ALL your videos on storytelling extremely insightful and they helped me so much in my writing journey. I wish you all the best, and please don't give up storytelling, even if you give up on Hollywood.
Tyler, I’m so sorry if you feel yourself not valuable but for many of us on as subscriber you have done a lot of things for us about script writing especially I’m living in Haiti, a poor country but your channel is gift for me. Let me tell you something, Hollywood is the dream that you looking for but if you work a lot you can change the verse instead of your running after them why your indépendant works, sttories attract them toward you. Don’t follow the crowd but follow your loneliness path and the crowd will run after you. As Danzel W. Says put God first in all you doing and wait the result. happy New year my Mentor
I’ve been watching your content for a while now. The only thing I can say is that the work you put out was impeccable and inspiring especially for young man who has so much in-depth knowledge about storytelling and making movies. I don’t know if you actually believe in this moment that you’re in but it’s not too late, writing is a strenuous career, and it might take a long time for a career to develop but try to find connections as much as you can, start small, if you dream about writing movies, consider a different route like writing for television or internet content, at least they might pay. I think what you’re feeling is a moment of defeat and that’s okay, most writers have questioned this line of work is for them and it is frustrating but if this is really what you want to do, if you really do care about telling stories then the only advice I can give you is that you need to have a burning desire to tell stories, to write characters that make people connect with, that should always be the goal, writing not to make money but to entertain and impact an audience. This has been hard but it’s not over yet, you got this.
It's your life. You're free to live it your way (by not harming anyone). All the best, Tyler. And thank you very much for teaching us writing for free. Writing brought me out of depression. It didn't solve any of my real world problems. But it helped me psychologically escape into another realm. Hope you find your peace. Thank you.
Remember, art changes. Distribution changes. We are in a different area. Many mainstream media outlets are dying/dead for the most part. Going independent are what many artist & creatives are doing their own thing. Even smaller studios may be a better option. Praying for you and the direction you take in life. You were giving a creative mind from God. He may just want you to be doing things in a different way than the “norm”! Hope all works out well! You have my support and prayers!
I literally found your channel 2 days ago. The video where you wrote a screenplay starting without a concept to a first draft in 48 hours was incredible. You inspired me to start writing again, and I haven’t in probably 10 years. Good luck on your journey. Continue to inspire, brother.
As some have mentioned, it seems like you go through a form of spiritual awakening, something similar happened to me in a non-spiritual way (I had basically completely crashed my mind, turning into ashes and had to rebuild myself anew, with new values, ways of interpreting the world etc.) and what has helped me to navigate this new "mental layers" I had access into was the development model "Ego Development Theory" from Cook-Greuter, stages Pluralist/Individualist (where my mind was atm) and Strategist (where I subconsciously wanted to get, even before knowing this model). Check it as well should you be interested, the "awakening" or "relativization" stage of the mind (where you actually likely are) can be quite a mess for your "role in reality" you were unconsciously playing before is slowly being deleted (in your case leaving the 9-5 mentality, leaving the Hollywood dream, opening to a discussion about deeper topics etc. It's the mental structure expanding) and replaced by a new one, potentially leading to a lot of changes (including removing some people from your life, as well as accepting new ones etc.). Your channel specifically has helped me a lot for I wanted my vertical shift to produce something I could return to and eventually, my approach to basically picking apart my mind was creating characters based on my subpersonalities (there is no "one" self) and then letting them live through various stories (for which your channel and the structures and tools you present were CRUCIAL) to observe how their mind and view of the world changes on the go, who they become, how constructs in our mind work etc. Therefore, I will add my voice to others and ask you to not delete your previous content if possible, please. It really is tremendously valuable.
This generation needs a cinematic revolution, we should come together as indie filmmakers (especially financially well off ones) and let the studios know we don’t need them and won’t work with them until they respect the art form over just trying to line their pockets.
Big Brother you have always been and ispiration for me.I thank you will all my heart for awakeni the interest and love for movies and writing. I am very thankful. Please don't quit writing. Hope you will get through this brother. I am with you
Everybody's got their path, Tyler. I'm genuinely happy you’ve found one that speaks clearly to you. At the same time, I'm sorry to see you step away from your screenplay content-it’s always been so engaging and unique. But, so be it. Watching your video I wondered what led up to you making this new resolution/statement. There’s clearly a lot of emotion behind it, and that same energy might be a great launching point for your writing. Perhaps you could explore or dramatize what led you to this point-turn all that passion into a story “Tyler-made” for you to tell?
I just want to say thank you for everything you've done. You've taught me so much that I wouldn't have been able to learn from anyone else. Good luck with the path you choose next, and don't forget to enjoy it.
I've a follower of yours and a Practical Screenwriting course member for years (although I prefer to write alone). We even talked once over zoom. Your advice helped me IMMENSELY. Your videos always motivated me to continue for which I'm extremely grateful. You've given so much already, do what you want to do! Take care of yourself, and best of luck! PS Hollywood is a dump. I believe they are trying to continue with their business model by pushing for AI, suits them actually.
Just wanted to say, you are my favorite screenwriting storytelling channel out there. I in fact came home for new years and wanted to go through all your content again :) Hoping you find your happiness and storytelling forever. Cheers.
This video is so meaningful to me. I've been trying to tell stories about things that matter to me, hoping fiction could have an impact on the world. But now I feel I'm more interested in the world itself, and the things themselves, and stories often feel like a waste of time. What I'm interested in is not called God but it's not so different: it's Nature, our connection to the natural world around us, to other humans, and how we can be a happier society. In my ideal world, personal ambition is meaningless, and that's why it doesn't make sense to me anymore to pursue it. Anyway, thank you Tyler for sharing this big turn in your journey. Your videos have always been inspiring, not only as writing tools but also in themselves, as reflections on philosophy, psychology, etc. I am curious to discover what you will share with us this year.
From Russia with Love, Tyler. You're my first teacher. You made me realize many things about screenwriting. I have always considered people like you to be the best teachers because you can explain complex things in simple language. I especially like your video about setup and payoff. When I learned this principle from you, my writing took on a new level.
Hey Tyler, you may not know me, but your channel has helped me a lot man. Thank you for this video too. Really help shed light on things. I pray that you will tell the stories you want to tell, especially the ones that glorify God and show what the Truth is. For as an aspiring Christian creator like myself, I want stories that tackle deep meaningful connection about Gpd, Morality, Identity and things I want to bring forth that will help others. So don't worry man, you got this. Will be praying for you. 🙏✝
Was scared you were gonna go Chris McCandles maxing for second there. I really liked your stuff talking about the beauty and fundamental spirituality in making your own art, i’m. glad your taking a more personal direction with your channel. You’re gonna blow up and be super successful soon with a new and different audience who understands art and beauty and God. Good year to you
I hope you’re okay. This sounds like it could be a beautiful transformation for you but it is certainly a death of a sort that I’m witnessing here. I’ll watch what you put out there but I really hope you’re taking care of yourself. I’m not saying you’re coming off as mentally unwell. I just worry when anyone has fed up vibes and makes a big change that there’s a lot of torment behind the decision.
I'm proud of you. I know you will do great things. Just remember to be humble because a lot of people have the insight you do; they just don't have the means to follow through.
Not sure if you'll see this, but I want you to know how much your content and the effort you put into your videos has truly made an impact in my life. Even though it's been over a year since I wrote anything myself (due to my own bullshit), you've inspired me and given me confidence in my own writing. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone, and that your content is truly gold.
I see you are going through some internal turmoil and you are on a new road for yourself. I Support and wish you strenght and courage. I'm not a religious person, and I probably never will be, but I'll stay a while and listen. I trust you are one of those people that are worth listening to, even if in the end we'll not agree about some things ;) Stay strong man! Best wishes!
You are incredibly talented! I've read many books on writing and your insights, descriptions, and ideas are the best I've ever come across! Thank you for what you have contributed. It means a lot. Please take care of yourself. You are a treasure!
I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'll still be sticking around to see your content, especially if it's more motivated on what you want to do rather than what you think you should do! Happy New Year from the UK!
Can't control what you're getting, only what you're doing. When you accept that, all the anxieties of trying to control the uncontrollable goes away. You end up working harder and faster, ironically increasing your chances of getting these rewards. But because now you're focused on what you're doing, it doesn't really matter if you get it anyway.
Take a walk in nature and stop taking stimulants, your pacing around is very unsettling. You're still young, you will have many opportunities in life outside of Hollywood.
I won't discourage this new route since it's what keeps you grounded and you should foster that, I just don't buy into the whole god thing, but I love film and it won't die because film is not Hollywood and it's inconsequential in the grand scheme of things so I'll keep on seeking advice elsewhere, despite me getting a lot of that from you as of recent. Good luck
Been following your channel for a while and just wanted to say thank you for all that you've done, it definitely added a lot to the lives of people like me. It made me a better writer and I wish the best for you on your new journey ahead!! Keep creating and a Happy New Year to you!! Much love from India❤🙏❤
Tyler. I actually read all the comments and it seems like there’s essentially three comments. “Nooooo!”, “good for you” and “please don’t delete your videos.” It was all selfish comments (which is fine) or blind support. I didn’t really see anyone being straight with you. So, I will, despite it not being my place at all. You need to think this through, and you need to consider two different things: what this means for you personally/spiritually, and what this means for your career. Career wise, with no consideration to your personal feelings, I’ll be frank, this probably isn’t a great idea. I’m assuming you make a living doing this. You’ve got something here, regardless of if you ever “make it” in the industry, you still got something here, on UA-cam. Personal goals aside, this is a good deal that a lot of people would kill for. You’d be hitting the reset button on this and crossing your fingers. Just because you’re liked in this part of UA-cam, doesn’t mean you’ll be successful with religion videos. Obviously this is far less important than your personal happiness, but you should still consider it. For your own personal feelings and changing life goals, I’m not gonna share my opinion, because I don’t know what triggered you to feel this or how long you’ve been feeling it. Nobody here should be telling you that you are making the right decision, because they don’t know. You’re clearly feeling something though, and you should talk to somebody about it. This is a big decision and you owe it to yourself to actually talk it out with somebody, a professional. Again, I don’t want to claim I have any idea what’s going on with you, but generally speaking sometimes you can feel this way because of other things going on in your life, or with your body. Some of these things can be resolved, with time, therapy, or medication. If you’ve ever do decide the change is needed, then that same person can help you talk out and plan the career change as well. And on a personal side note, you shouldn’t have posted this video. I’m not saying you shouldn’t share your feelings with your audience. You should absolutely share your feelings and changing goals with your audience, but this seemed impulsive and you probably shouldn’t share the feelings when they’re raw. If you’re wrong about how you feel, or the feeling was fleeting, you now are going to feel like you have to follow through because you told everyone you were doing it. It’s hard to reverse course and walk things back. I don’t know if you were doing this, but, sometimes people post like this as a form of therapy. They get support from their audience, and they feel better. If you were intentionally or unconsciously doing this, I would caution you. As I said, before, all your comments were selfish or blind support. That is not therapy. If your therapist is blindly supporting you, they are wrong. Having a hundred people patting you on the back and saying “do it!” isn’t helpful because they don’t know what your motivations are or what’s going on in your personal life. We are all strangers. For all they know they are supporting you making a huge mistake. Speak to an actual professional. Also, you have a huge audience of aspiring screen writers, and you just discouraged all of them. This is equivalent to walking into a high school programming class and telling everyone “the industry sucks and you’re never going make it”. Good luck, and I wish you the best. Sorry for putting my nose in it, I’m sure it wasn’t necessary or very nice for me to do so.
While I realize that your channel is on the verge of a transformation, I would kindly ask that you please leave up your former videos regarding story. They have helped so many people and I believe they will continue to help people in the future. Either way, thanks for all of your Advice and insight into story structure. ❤
Thank you for your content and your insights Tyler. It is a sorry state of affairs in Hollywood. Whatever your reasons for turning to God, I hope it is personal and hope it is for the best. Please continue to inspire other aspiring writers to find their voice. I have recently found my voice: creating stories and dialogue in Shakespearean lingo. I will leave you with this: “As long as you are doubtful and skeptical of yourself, there will always be he who will keep you in doubt and skeptical of your abilities.” Jarod.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is my inspiration for this philosophy: “Don’t make movies because of money, make movies because you believe in your characters and your story.” I’d recommend watching his recent successes to drive home this point.
Good luck on your journey mate. Like some others have said, this is a huge step that requires consistent grounding lest you get lost in the cans and shoulds instead of what is. To me, the Buddhist parable of the raft is a key grounding point in that even the tools we use to achieve a better place of existence are just that - tools. Too many people who go the spiritual route get so infatuated with said tools they forgot their purpose.
Im sorry but what is this comment? Theres literally no proof psychedelics cause psychosis, and this is clearly just a man frustrated with the industry and his hard work going to waste. What an insane comment.
The problem with god is that there is nothing you can say to demonstrate his existence to anyone that another person from another religion wouldn’t say about their proposed god to demonstrate their existence as well. It’s all fallacious reasoning we’ve been conditioned to believe. I’m unfollowing but I hope you look into how to avoid fallacies while building your beliefs. Take care 🙂
I would've respected this shift in content, even though it's very much not my thing and not what I subscribed for, but upon checking the other things he's been posting in his other social media, I'm starting to worry he might be losing his mind. I've seen UA-camrs before suddenly start posting extremely religious content out of nowhere that is completely detached to the original videos they made and they just start to go downhill from there.
@ I believe in you. Dostoevsky thread that needle about as well as any man ever has. The fact that you have replied in this way makes me feel better. The suffering of that path is worth it. Even if 1 in 100 complete the journey. Failing to ascend is still a service to mankind because your example serves as a stepping stone to the next generation. If Dostoevsky was mad, can we please all go a little mad en masse immediately!?
There are two directions for you to take Tyler: 1) Quit the industry and find another path that doesn't allow you to hone in on your skills as a writer. 2) Quit Hollywood and find your way to becoming independent and flipping off the zombies of Hollywood in the process. Only you can choose the path, but I believe the potential from the man that I have learned so much from. If anything, please don't delete your content from the past. Hope you find your happiness and peace.
Thank you for sharing your heart. I have always been drawn to storytelling for the expression of self aspect. As a Christian and an artist, I enjoy sharing my faith and creative uniqueness in various ways, but I always thought it would be a struggle to fit both in a traditional career. Although, at the end of the day I thank God for art and for the heart of an artist. Here's to the future, whatever path that takes me! Godspeed on your new journey!
That's a ballsy and profound decision right there. Looking forward to whatever you'll be posting in the future, Tyler. Much love and greetings from Germany
I appreciate your sincerity here. I hope you keep your screen writing videos public because I have found them to be a very helpful resource for my non-screenplay writing.
I just wanna let you know that, in spite of the fact that you're correcting your course, the content you provided in this channel is still valuable. This week I shared one of your educational videos to a friend of mine and it helped him a lot to understand what was not working in his script and how he could go about it. Thank you for all the insightful material you provided us with.
What you have provided here up to this point has been extremely valuable. Thank you for all of it Feel free to switch to a path you consider important and authentic, not betraying yourself. Take care and good luck
I’ve been watching your channel since you first started it. Your videos have helped me grow and I’ve learnt so much. It’s been an honour and a privilege to learn from you. 🙏
Don’t pursue Hollywood, pursue telling stories you’re passionate about and collaborate with indie film makers. Just because your film doesn’t go international doesn’t mean you’re not a story teller. Keep up the good content man people are inspired by you.
I love this!
Also, what's the point of becoming good, only to allow Hollywood to ruin your work? See if indie film makers can help.

I just have to say thank you for all of your screenwriting advice. Your explanation about philosophical conflict was a breakthrough for me to truly understand character motivation and what drives my characters to act and forces them to change inside their worlds. Considering what we have had our eyes opened to about what goes on in Hollywood, I can understand why you feel this way and are going in this route.
I still think your screenwriting and storytelling advice is invaluable for those who will want to continue the dream of storytelling and filmmaking by doing so through independent means.
Well, that's one hell of a New Years resolution, I"ll tell you that.
🤣
Hey man, good luck - seems like you're going through the beginning of a spiritual awakening, I know exactly what you're talking about here, been there before. I hope you take care and stay grounded, it can get really overwhelming going through it alone, but it's a rewarding experience opening up your soul slowly.
also: if you ever started a new channel, it would be great too, I'm sure many of us would enjoy it.
anyway, happy new year, brother!
Screw Hollywood, you can do it on your own.
I wish we had more Christians in Hollywood. But you did the right thing. God is good.
@@timeslot09 He's mentioned it elsewhere.
If you don't mind me asking, how exactly was your soul being corroded?
I totally relate to your experience, as a screenwriter in my own country (France). I hope you will not let Hollywood dry up your passion for storytelling altogether. It’s so much bigger than that… Your content is incredible, and relevant with or without Hollywood. How about expanding it to something bigger and integrating your calling for transcendance into your expertise? In addition to your « engineer’s approch» to writing (which is tremendously helpful to us) how about also exploring things like inspiration, style, originality, individual expression and the mysteries of artistic creation as a whole? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
My passion for story is at an all time high. Now I feel that I am living in my own
Salut ! Si c’est la recherche en la matière qui vous intéresse. Je m’y consacre aussi et je ne suis pas loin de chez vous ! Bonne année !
You are the protagonist on your own journey. Your arc is leading you from pursuing what you want to finding out what you really need. You just hit a plot point in that journey.
Truth.
as an aspiring filmmaker, I should not have watched this video
Same 😢
It's his struggle. He's down. Don't let it discourage you.
Also, he has a UA-cam channel, which has its own challenges. A lot of influencers burn out.
There's other avenues outside Hollywood, look into corporate gigs, real estate videography, workplace instruction videos, etc.
🤣
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(But seriously, I am grateful for all the memories, the journey, and everything. I can not thank you enough, and goodbye.)
Please keep the existing content live, dont take them down
i love your writing advice and do your own thing. im proud of you in doing a healthy change even though it may hurt your original goals in life. you can do different storys and how they impact us through biblical/ religous text. keep up with the hard work and most importantly give yourself time to process the change. thank you for helping me have the courage to continue to write my book.
Thanks for all the help in all those years, you really made an impact in the community and I wish you know that. Stay well!
I do know that! And I won’t forget
100% true
@@TylerMowery If you ever want to chat how narratology forms everything you want to talk about let me know. I know I am pushing my narratological journey this year by supporting everyone I can in their storytelling journeys.
amen 🙏🙏i'm just starting to learn how to tell stories (and in fact just found this channel) and i'm so thankful for reminding me to keep Jesus above everything else i do
Welcome to the other side.
You've got to this place much younger than many, so give yourself congratulations for making that progress.
I look forward to seeing where your good character takes you from here. 👊
Thank you Rob!
Glad you found clarity, hope you're doing alrigth. Thanks for all you've done.
I am!
You don't need a studio’s approved to get a movie made. Go ask indie filmmakers to get it made.
This won’t be an apologetics channel lol
This might be your inciting incident 👀 Don’t worry buddy. You’re valuable to this trashy world
Don't quit writing Tyler, God wants you to keep telling stories. Do it for love, not money. Happy New Year, Best Wishes, Curtis.
I'm sure that's a natural evolution that good storytelling should you lead to, cuz good stories are sth more that just interesting plot and cool characters
(Hi from Eastern Orthodox church, i know you are in another confession, but nevertheless I'm glad you made that step with your channel, keep up brother)
In story telling, i believe this is called "The Heroes Journey"...
What's happening in the world is intense and people like you are needed for humanity get through it.... just saying so you know you're valued by people out here ❤🙏
Even though you’ve quit
I just wanna say thank you for all your advice on screenwriting over the years.
(Who knows, maybe I will publish a book or make a movie/show one day)
Thank you Tyler for everything.
Good luck!
Hey Tyler, hope you find more fulfillment down this new path.
But don't let go of your screenwriting roots please! This is what Tim Urban said about careers in the arts:
"I met many aspiring artists in my early 20s.
Stay strong friend. Thanks for the knowledge
So great to see your content again Tyler ❤ I hope you are doing well. Thanks again and again for helping us with your story and writing tutorials 🎉
Learned a lot from you man - now I want to go back through all the ones I missed. Hope you know you've made me a better writer and artist
I'm so sorry man, if i will ever make it i WILL BRING YOU IN.
WISH ME LUCK.
WISH YOU THE BEST ❤
You should quit pacing around while filming.
Tarkovsky would be proud.
Your videos about storytelling, conflict etc. helped me so much in my job. Forget Hollywood! You are one of the best writing teachers ❤
Perhaps you could explore or dramatize what led you to this point-turn all that passion into a story “Tyler-made” for you to tell?
maybe this is just your "all is lost/ dark night of the soul" moment in your life. Time to break into 3
Based on what he’s suggested about his life the dark night of the soul happened a while back so maybe this is the climactic choice haha
I just want to say thank you for everything you've done. You've taught me so much that I wouldn't have been able to learn from anyone else. Good luck with the path you choose next, and don't forget to enjoy it.
God bless you and whatever your next chapter is, bro.
I in fact came home for new years and wanted to go through all your content again :)
Hoping you find your happiness and storytelling forever. Cheers.
I, and many others, are grateful to have learned from you. I hope your channel is preserved for future generations.
I hope so too!
NOOOOOO MAN PLEASE CONTINUE UR CONTENT IS ACTUALLY SO HELPFUL PLEASEE 😭
Trust me my videos will be continue being helpful, Icey. Dont worry
@TylerMowery ohh okay!! if so then really just do what you wanna do man keep on going :]
You're videos have been very educational and fantastic structure for me and several pals. Thank you! From england🏴
Glad you like them!
Thank you for your prayers, Josh. They will not go to waste.
Interesting change but let's see where this goes
Was scared you were gonna go Chris McCandles maxing for second there.
I really liked your stuff talking about the beauty and fundamental spirituality in making your own art, i’m. glad your taking a more personal direction with your channel. You’re gonna blow up and be super successful soon with a new and different audience who understands art and beauty and God.
Good year to you
NOOOOO I JUST WATCHED YOUR THE END OF THE F***ING WORLD VID, CAME TO YOUR CHANNEL LOOKING FOR MORE 😭😭
I hope you’re okay.
Hahaha do you fear my fed up vibes?
@@TylerMowery I just love you for helping me and I hope you’re okay.
Happy New Year, and New life, I always followed you because of your philosophical visions.
Appreciate you!
Thank you Taeyon. I will keep pushing towards light and truth
I see you are going through some internal turmoil and you are on a new road for yourself. I Support and wish you strenght and courage. I'm not a religious person, and I probably never will be, but I'll stay a while and listen. I trust you are one of those people that are worth listening to, even if in the end we'll not agree about some things ;)
Stay strong man!
Let's get honest. This lifetime's everything.
You don’t like my pacing? 🥺
“Nooooo!”, “good for you” and “please don’t delete your videos.”
It was all selfish comments (which is fine) or blind support.
I had the exact same realization today.
While I realize that your channel is on the verge of a transformation, I would kindly ask that you please leave up your former videos regarding story. They have helped so many people and I believe they will continue to help people in the future. Either way, thanks for all of your Advice and insight into story structure. ❤
The film industry is becoming decentralized. Connect with other creators and produce your own work! Good luck Tyler
I will leave you with this: “As long as you are doubtful and skeptical of yourself, there will always be he who will keep you in doubt and skeptical of your abilities.”
Jarod.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is my inspiration for this philosophy: “Don’t make movies because of money, make movies because you believe in your characters and your story.”
I’d recommend watching his recent successes to drive home this point.
Best of luck, man. I look forward to seeing what kind of new content you post. Take care, and be kind to yourself.
Maybe you shouldn't have taken psychedelics. Psychedelics are not good for careerists. To be honest, I recognize signs of psychosis.
He's not psychotic, dude. He's opened his mind and woke up to the BS.
Im sorry but what is this comment? Theres literally no proof psychedelics cause psychosis, and this is clearly just a man frustrated with the industry and his hard work going to waste. What an insane comment.
Wtf is wrong with you😮
The problem with god is that there is nothing you can say to demonstrate his existence to anyone that another person from another religion wouldn’t say about their proposed god to demonstrate their existence as well. It’s all fallacious reasoning we’ve been conditioned to believe. I’m unfollowing but I hope you look into how to avoid fallacies while building your beliefs. Take care 🙂
You should listen to System of a down, that might help (they even has a song "lost in Hollywood")
It looked sudden but that was something which was building from long ago
Kinda agree with you man, His new bio is "Seeking Truth." Hes odviously going through something crazy
@@Tstorm731 Wow you are so right thank you for telling me this!
I have a new plan, to go mad. - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
YESSS congratulations tyler and thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I appreciate your sincerity here. I hope you keep your screen writing videos public because I have found them to be a very helpful resource for my non-screenplay writing.
Jacob Tyler Mowery, have you secretly been a fan of The Cinema Cartography this whole time? *finger wag*
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
What you have provided here up to this point has been extremely valuable. Thank you for all of it
Feel free to switch to a path you consider important and authentic, not betraying yourself. Take care and good luck
