I do this trip twice a year from Paramaribo to Santo Domingo, always with Insel Air These guys are from the islands, though they know exactly what they do. Fine airline, good skilled pilots. no complaints. It's a recommendation.
Also because jets are so heavy, they have a slower reaction time to control input relative to smaller planes, so it takes a bigger correction to keep the plane on track when you're fighting stronger winds.
Nice landing... next time align the cam a bit lower.. It was a bit too high in the cockpit. So you couldn't see ahead, but only whats just in front of the cockpit.
Did they swtich off engine number 1 when the plane turned into the gate and completed the parking on eng2? and if that did happen, why not wait the few secs? also is that a comon SOP for the airline or aircraft type?
what airline do you fly for and how long have you flown for them? i've always wanted to be a pilot but i've heard the beginnings are quite hard especially here in the US
Lemme try: Big airplanes can take a lot of herky jerky control deflection when flying relatively slow, to overcome all that mass to make small attitude adjustments. Notice how a lot of those sudden flight control surface deflections are immediately followed by equally sudden corrections to stop that lumbering airplane movement. Otherwise, things would take way too long to respond.
Sir, this is undoubtedly an md80. Note the two small raised bumps on top of the dash in the center shear, they are actually mirrors that flip up and allow me, the pilot, to see the the compass which is located in the rear of the cockpit. Dead give away. Md80. Also if you note the three landing light switches to the left of the autopilot control, they have three small glow in the dark illuminators on them. Another dead give away. So maybe you should educate yourself a little better.
The speed at which the plane is flying in landing config is very low which lessons the effectiveness of the controls. If they were traveling faster through the air, the effectiveness would be greater. :)
Great video! I can get enough...keep it coming!
Excellent video Captain
excelent video! nice landing :)
i love st maarten
we want more MD Videos!!!
which airline?
thanks!
Awesome Vid!! What camera did you use?

Insel Air ta dushi!!!
Great vid once again!
great video!
did you already shut down the engines when the plane still rolled while arriving at the gate?
wow....nice video sir :) Thanks....
Nice again, i want to fly in the cockpit once with insel
Great job!!!!!

amazing! my favorite plane!

did you bounce up after you touched dowon the first time when the nose gear was still up

when youre coming in on final approach, what speed are you going?
if you are flying the plane...but who is filming?
You usually aim for between 80-40 fpm main gear. The approach may be as much as 1200 fpm, but the flare at the end lessens the impact.
What vs do you hit the ground for example -400 fpm
what is the touchdown speed for an md80?
@CrazyCessnaPilot An American airlines pilot said 500 and under is good for feet per minute

What airline was this?
it depends on the weight of the aircraft, but roughly 130/120kts
Would -200 fpm when you hit the ground be considered smooth still
¡Que chévere!, ¡it´s cool!
good landing!!!

I dunno how long that flight was, but they sure do taxi fast, slow down guys! Ease up on the coffee!
engine shutdown. big electric relays switch from engine generator power to apu generator.
thats the clap you hear
i would piss my pants as a marshaller, seeing a mad-dog 80 coming to me!
kool!!!
An American airlines piot
@cubanangel1985 insel air
My friends dad is a pilot
meh... the most unsafe plane ever made...
