My dad was a fighter pilot who flew several thousand hours in it, and commanded a Mig 21 squadron. As a child I grew up on an AFB that had Mig 21s. Watched my dad perform aerobatics and lot of night flying take offs with the awesome afterburners. I was fortunate to sit in the cockpit of a Mig 21 as well.
As did my dad. Commanded 108 back in the 80s and then a base in the desert.
My grandpa was a jet engine mechanic who worked on thunderchiefs

The Mig 21 and Mig 23 captivated me since I was little in Ethiopia Asmara in the 80s. Even though I was little and didn't know much about airplanes but always heard their names on the radio. Sometimes they would fly so low over the town we lived in we had to cover our ears because the sonic boom was so loud. Wow I used to make a mockup out of them from clays and play with them with my friends.

Amazing plane, with very scary sound...I had a "privilege" to "feel" the power of MIG 21 very close above the house in the village we guarding during Croatian liberation war. Very very SCARY. There was four of them, one by one. Luckily it was OUR planes in action. MIG 21 is truly one of a kind. One of the best ever made.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it is beautifull or not, depends on were you are from. To me it is a good looking plane. Just not beautifull. The A10 is to me way more beautifull. Heck. Even an SU27 is way way way more beautifull. The most iconic MIG, if you ask me, is the MIG15. To be honest. I like SU over MIG.

MiG-21 , alt , aber noch verdammt gefährlich. Ich habe sie mal in Volkel /Holland gesehen und sie ist verdammt laut , schnell und wendig. Super. 👍

Mig-21 - Very formidable little fighter.
I absolutely adore the Mig 21 - I love how complex and intricate she is despite looking like nothing more than a stovepipe with samosa wings and a cockpit stuck on the top. There's a certain elegance in her simplistic aesthetics, a perfect tribute to Russian 'no frills' agriculturalism
I was blessed to work in Mig 21 Squadron in Indian Air Force during 1982. Lovely memorable days❤🙏

MiG 21 BiS . the definitive version of this series . Even today this plane stands out for it's gracile and beautiful geometry , it looks sharp, flies sharp and very much comparable to generation 4++ fighter planes .
Good to see these are still flying and seeing good use , evidence what good maintenance and technical support can do . Unfortunately in my country lack of technical back up , maintenance and support from industry has lead to them not proving their mettle .
… more like generation 2++, though. Nevertheless cool to see that oldtimer fly and being maintained so well by the Croatians. Update: I see they procured Dassault Rafale in the meantime. Surely no bribes involved this time, eh? 😅

Fun Fact:
Yugoslav army all ready ordered Miarge III to replenish US fighter planes Sabre F 86, then Algeria decided that they dont want to be French colonie any more, YU helped Algeria to the independence a lot.
France was so furious that they strip off all ready signed agreement for +100 Mirage III, because of that Yugoslavia bought +150 MIG 21 instead
I appreciate your respect for this aircraft, but please be realistic. There is no way in hell it's a match for a generation 4+ aircraft. You are separated by at least two generations. Avionics, Weaponry, all of it.

Хорошо летать может только красивый самолёт! Отличный Истребитель СССР - 4 в одном: мощный, быстрый, маневренный и офигенно изящный!!! Пацаны уже на 4 курсе могли на сверхзвуке "потрогать бога за бороду"! Славное было время! Когда первый раз увидел пару Миг-21 низко над тайгой подумал, что треугольные НЛО, однако :-)

@@TheMotorman1981 no they werent. And if you read up on your newspapers, even the ones that said that an F16 was shot down have recently written articles admitting that India lost.

@Matthew McPeek Against the Germans they had 9 allied fighters for 1 german fighter and still got really beat up. And you say that they have still dominance on what references do you make that statement? If you heard about red flag then you should know that the "Stealth" raptor and F35 are not that " stealth" as hollywood states! 4 F22 vs 4 Gripens and it was 4 - 0 to the swedes with a plane that costs 8 times less than a Raptor... Even the US Navy that peolpe say is unstopable got sunk by one single Swedish Submarine. Thats a shame. Yes The F15 is by far the best built jet for its time. And of course the kills it got was mostly against older migs or shitty pilots from Iraq that turnfights with a MIG25
I heard that face to face from a Gripen Pilot Nils who is one of the guys on instagram that is posting on the stridspiloterna account he showed me a picture where he had a f22 in his gun sight lol these stuff is not getting leaked for many reasons one of them is because so they would not show that they are actually vulnerable in air combat. Even the french pilots won the duels against the super alien F22 in red flag according to him.
Awesome fighter, just a solid little beast...love its sound and watching those delta wings from below. Lucky enough to live in Romania where we still have quite a few flying, so get to see them here and there but up close at the BIAS airshow in Bucharest every year. If anyone wants to watch the MiG-21s getting around all day and other flying displays and aircraft from other air-forces in Europe, this year BIAS is on 5 September in Bucharest.

50-YEARS ago, I built a Revell Model Mig-21 with…[Drum Roll 🥁] BATTLE DAMAGE..!!! You could switch out panels on the wings/fuselage with new ones or battle damage. It was Revell’s new look/attempt to bolster sales, imho. Anyway, it looked SO DAMNED COOL that it stuck with me mentally after all those years..🇺🇸

Could you please tell us any story of your dad in the Iran - Irak war? Thanks in advance...
In the mid sixties an Iraqi pilot deserted and brought one Mig-21 to Israel. This aircraft helped Israel to learn its weak sides and to help with the six days victory. I remember that five Mig-21 with their Russian pilots were shot down by Israel in one incident. This Mig was transferred also to the U.S.A. and since then they had a bigger success in Vietnam against the Migs.

Красивый самолет! I had the pleasure to fly these Rockets with seat in the 90's when USSR fazed out the MIG-21. Much better than I expected for an older Fighter. Too bad its got such a short range.

It's amazing, how in our quest to find more and more efficient ways of killing each other, we end up creating beautiful machines whose original purposes we forget when we gather to watch them fly at air shows. May we all live in a peaceful future.
The MiG-21 was designed to kill me yet her elegant lines and beauty eventually seduced me. LOL! She is really a gem and I always wanted to fly her.
It's not the end here, , we created amazing beautiful machines to kill humans, that was even once mentioned by trump in one of his speeches, moreover humans on planet Earth, are putting more than 70% of whatever they got, to kill each other!
