I like how Engineer is described to “sprinkle a little damage here and there” along his sentry when he can provide teleportation, healing and ammo restock which are traits Torbjorn could only dream of
I must say that the sentry gun not only has tons of damage, but it also pushes you back. This is very important. It prevents players ftom getting close to the enemies or the turret itself. Also, if you DARE to fly near the sentry, it can and WILL pin you against a wall or even the edge of the map
@@thegreatdokidefendertf2889 so why mention two secondary slot items and not a single melee slot item? Random crits alone makes melee a decent DPS weapon, like it or not.
honestly genius man a really really good torb has a really really really good gun but any combat engi with even half a brain cell knows that crits = good, mini sentry = 3 or so kills before going boom and 3 or so kills = *start fucking praying* but if it's a rescue ranger then torb is better, but his turret still sucks in comparison
Torbjorn was a world class inventor and weapons designer. He was the inventor of mechs ( In overwatches universe) and created the Bastion units, which were a massively strong robot army.
I'd like to point out, the widowmaker, short circuit, and the frontier justice. The widowmaker can have massive damage output if you land your shots at a short distance, due to not needing to reload and an effectively infinite.... drum? clip? tube? The short circuit can do 15 damage per couple seconds while inside the sphere, and prevent enemy projectiles from harming your person. So if the enemy is backing up you can also do around 45-60 damage per sphere per person. Granted you get three-four hits on a given person. With the frontier justice, you get free crits(which don't suffer from damage falloff) per kill/assist you get with your gun, and considering how sentries tend to steal kills and assists, you'll rack those up fairly quickly in a good game. It's also unfair to discount the engineers stock option up close, as a decent engi can easily kill over eager dps classes with his shotgun, and given a distraction like you gave Torb when discussing upclose tank shredding, the engi can do that too with his shotgun, and range isn't out of the realm of possibility, considering he also has the pistol, which does do generally reliable damage at range, granted not as much as the headshot projectile Torb fires. I would also like to point out the gunslinger, which basically changes the engi from 20 him 80 sentry, to a more 40 sentry 60 him if you play it right. Along with bringing the engi from 125 health to 150. I think ultimately, this just highlights how many more ways there is to play a class in TF2, than in OW, which makes the comparison unfair to both sides, because you have to ignore all unlockables for engi for torb to really stand a chance, since we also covered the fact the mini still does more damage than the turret, but by nerfing the engi, you also make him very boring to play, because you sit behind your snety gun waiting for the enemy to walk into it, or maybe you can do a risky teleport play. You have to discount everything else that defines the engi in order for Torb to have a chance, but it's unfair to even just compare Torb to engi, since OW is more focused on set classes, which fill the niches the different weapons TF2 has that change the way classes play. Such as Symetra's shield gen and teleport being comparable to the engi's dispenser and teleporter, or even Lucio's aoe healing to the dispenser. Ammo is also a somewhat unfair comparison since one game uses ammo as a common currency across all classes making it so that each class has a reason to get an ammo pack, even spy who relies on melee more than his ranged weapon. When the other just... doesn't. Engineer plays a huge role in the ammo and health economy for TF2, where in OW there's no need for an ammo provider. Which is why I'm somewhat upset with your cost comparison, it really should've just been setup time since one game just doesn't have a comparison to make. While the video was fun, the actual comparison ultimately falls flat, since you went beyond just sentry gun and turret, and went into the people placing it while still looking at it from the view of the sentry gun instead of the classes themselves.
i was going to complain about how it makes much more sense to use the average hp's rather than the baselines, but after figuring those myself turns out the ratio is still 1.6-1.7. dosent actually change much for these calculations. also engie bits torb on every visual and audio design front.
@@DarthWidar if they could decide whether he's fat or muscular, and make that muscular, hell get higher. Never as high as engine, but higher. You can also customize engies appearance with as many ridiculous wares as you please, while torb only has some boring, highly detailed and designed skins.
If you want to compare, the mini sentry is fairly similar to torb turret, whereas a level 3 is very much the same sort of threat as a turret-mode bastion, one is a drop and run nuisance, whereas one is an almost immediate death threat
The Sentry Gun is a much larger investment, intended to be a core component of a team's ability to halt a push - Engineer is a very real contender for the most important person on a team in TF2, with his buildings (especially his teleporter) being the things that a team fights around. The Turret, however, is an anti-flanking tool that serves to compliment the team, not control it. Unlike the Engineer, Torbjorn is not the most important person on his team - the team's "Main Tank" (the character who is responsible for giving their team space to work with, usually being Reinhardt, Orisa, Winston or Wrecking Ball) is. Torbjorn is intended to be one of many possible damage options, his main specialty being his sturdiness and protecting his team from being surrounded and picked apart. The concept of "Making Space" is very important in Overwatch, while TF2 doesn't really have a concept of making space. Both the Sentry gun and the Turret make sense considering the respective roles of the character they are bound to, and the structure of the game they are in.
I'd say that "making space" is still quite important in tf2, because of uber. You need to have an area where your medic can be safe while still healing, and your engineer can build up support buildings. This "space is often created by power classes such as soldier, demo and heavy, that have the hp and damage to hold ground, and create a front line.
Jack Hudner a good way to see which class in TF2 is high priority is to use my domination theory. Basically, take out that class's bot and play it yourself(if you good at the game and can play better than a bot). If you lead your team to victory, then that class is important(same goes if you bad and cause the team to lose). If you are doing godlike and have the highest points, but your team still loses, then the class only has situational importance. Edit: TF2 bots are pretty stupid and suck at aiming TBH and this idea should be scrapped.
Engineer's Sentry Gun is more resilient than the Heavy, who is the strongest class in TF2. The Sentry Gun is basically a combination of Soldier and Heavy.
This really reflects a different design philosophy in the 2 games. The Engineer was designed to cause stalemates, to be that wall the enemy team had to work together to push past, while Torbjorn is just one of 6 heroes who all have to work together to MAKE that stalemate.
Except the engineer can also be many, many other things, and torb has the sort of role-schizophrenia that makes almost anyone who chooses him look stupid because the chances of them actually performing what tiny little limited role he works within well are infinitesimally small.
@@knavenformed9436 That's good thought in theory, but in practice well-placed teleporters are often protected by the continuous stream of teammates coming through it.
Wouldn't mini-sentry vs torb 2.0 turret be a better comparison to make? Cool info, nonetheless. (lol i need to finish the video before commenting next time)
Imagine all the classes of Tf2 vs all the heroes of Overwatch. It would be interesting to see how well each class would handle all the heroes and vice-versa.
In terms of gameplay, it’s a battle between damage or trickery. TF2 weapons do a crap ton of damage, and healing is also at a rapid pace. Overwatch is more about trickery, relying on abilities to take down threats.
Well if we're also running with each side having their own team's server rules we're looking at 12 vs 6, for starters. On top of TF2 weapons being way more versatile, dealing way more damage, healing way faster, and being far less relient on teammates.. Yeah thats going to be a hard stomp the moment a single overpriced merc goes down
Bull... the defective turret beats both! -0 dmg? Big whoop. The defect is more sexy, can talk and is still looking for bullets, therefor making its determination stronger then the others, the ones that wait for ammo to come to them. Also +75 more bullet per bullet is the portal turret's whole deal!
So Torbjorn is sort of a battle Engineer? Never really got into OW because I didn't like the playstyles offered 2 years ago, I guess I shouldn't have overlooked the short fellow.
Another ting to add to the dps section is that the rockets dont always hit on the tf2 sentry because of the slow projectile speed. Just keep that in mind.
The Turret looks much more similar to the Mini Sentry tbh. The Lv3 Sentry definitely adds so much more to the depth of the game. A well-positioned Sentry nest is like an overpowered war machine, and the other team has to play around it, using both the appropriate counter weapons/classes and the map's terrain.
As a point I think is interesting, while Torbjorn only has his Sentry as a building to work with, Engineer has essentially three OW heroes as his buildings: besides the Sentry as mentioned in the video, he also has an essence of Lucio with his Dispenser and an essence of Symmetra with his Teleporter. Given that, it's clear how each game prioritizes those three elements based on level design and character abilities.

Little bit irrelevant to non-overwatch guy but ur comparison needs were fulfilled ;) next up U can top yourself and compare stock vs original rocket launcher. Nice approach as always with juicy stats. Keep it up as nice and imaginative as u do.
The changes are minimal, height is the same, but rocket spawns with >7 cm lateral position difference, but converge at the same spot at >1 m distance. You have to be tapping the movement keys and shooting at a window to perceive any difference
The one thing i see on almost every Tf2 vs overwatch film is that in comments there are almost only Tf2 (ik here that this is Tf2 channel) and almost noone protects the Overwatch. This is the thing i love in TF2, the *COMMUNITY* Edit: ... Stupid grammar mistakes
it's actually annoying to take down a level 2 turret in overwatch from my experience and then there is the removed level 3 which is stronger then a level 3 sentry
Jayden C It wasn’t really as powerful as the lv3 sentry. It may seem more powerful due to the pacing of OW rounds and because less overwatch characters are equipped to fight them, but it’s simply not the case.
@@Jdudec367 in health the turret is better but all it has is rockets for a short duration. The sentry always has rockets and its bullets are as deadly as he said in the video, taking you down in a couple seconds, not to mention the rangler, which increases the sentry fire rate and gives the sentry a major damage resistance, effectively giving the sentry around 600 hp from its 216 hp. And the ability to aim the sentry at long range enemies negates the range advantage the turret had
Tf2 Sentry: Absurd damage but you can never get it to it’s max potential outside of preparation time without leaving your team down a player Overwatch turret: A useful utility that provides decent damage damage practically on demand when you throw it as well as Torbjorn doing major damage to the enemy by himself
the engineer just feels so much more like a whole package deal vs torb. you get healing, mobility, and area denial all in one class while also not being completely defenseless. meanwhile torb has a tiny little bit of area denial with the turret and has to ult for strong area denial. neither are good but it's undeniable that engineer is just better designed vs torb. torb suffers from the fact the dev team has constantly felt the need to casualize him and dumb him down so that mobility hero's can just run rampant instead of respect his area. not only that but ults just ruin the entire idea of builder classes. whats the point of building up all of these time consuming high value buildings when they're just going to get wiped out during a push anyway? it's why overwatch will never be really all that interesting to me. it's like every class has uber, so the entire game becomes "poke to build Ult, Run in, press Q, whoever presses Q the best wins."
There is a stark contrast of play styles between two characters with similar abilities. Engineer can play passively or actively while Torb almost always is more active due to most of his effectiveness being on his person instead of his building. Says a lot about the nature of both games, I think.
I fell like calculating the mean amount of health out of all the characters in both games would’ve been more accurate. For Tf2 that would be: (125+125+125+125+150+175+175+200+300)/9 = 166.667 as the mean for Tf2 health pools.
It's amazing to me how much Overwatch tries to ape mechanics from TF2 without actually wanting to commit to any type of intricacies that would require any mechanical knowlege making everything incredibly dull and generic.

"The engineer himself only adds the 20% of the possible damage output"
**jag intensifies**
Turret: I am only used for assistance.
Sentry: Enjoy your 56 kills and 32 assists against these bots in Practice.
*casual
While the video was fun, the actual comparison ultimately falls flat, since you went beyond just sentry gun and turret, and went into the people placing it while still looking at it from the view of the sentry gun instead of the classes themselves.
theres also the issue that a good chunch of overwatches weapons are projectiles so the short circuit would hard counter half the roster
The frontier justice doesn't give crits unless the sentry got a kill and it got destroyed/ you demolished it
i was going to complain about how it makes much more sense to use the average hp's rather than the baselines, but after figuring those myself turns out the ratio is still 1.6-1.7. dosent actually change much for these calculations.

Both the Sentry gun and the Turret make sense considering the respective roles of the character they are bound to, and the structure of the game they are in.
tldr: Torb is like a battle engineer with a super strong emphasis on the battle aspect.
You gonna need atleast 1 engi on your team
Free ammo and heal is always a good thing
@@THG_thehumangod that's a pretty bad way to do things, because tf2 bots are incredibly stupid

Engineer's Sentry Gun is more resilient than the Heavy, who is the strongest class in TF2. The Sentry Gun is basically a combination of Soldier and Heavy.
2 brass beast heavies and a soldier lol
This really reflects a different design philosophy in the 2 games. The Engineer was designed to cause stalemates, to be that wall the enemy team had to work together to push past, while Torbjorn is just one of 6 heroes who all have to work together to MAKE that stalemate.
Except teleport is most important building engineer can ever build.
-Sentries kill people
-Dispensers save lives
-Teleporters win games.

In terms of gameplay, it’s a battle between damage or trickery. TF2 weapons do a crap ton of damage, and healing is also at a rapid pace. Overwatch is more about trickery, relying on abilities to take down threats.

Gammera It also made him a lot more useful on both Attack and defense, unlike how he was before
Another ting to add to the dps section is that the rockets dont always hit on the tf2 sentry because of the slow projectile speed.
Given that, it's clear how each game prioritizes those three elements based on level design and character abilities.

the engineer just feels so much more like a whole package deal vs torb. you get healing, mobility, and area denial all in one class while also not being completely defenseless. meanwhile torb has a tiny little bit of area denial with the turret and has to ult for strong area denial. neither are good but it's undeniable that engineer is just better designed vs torb. torb suffers from the fact the dev team has constantly felt the need to casualize him and dumb him down so that mobility hero's can just run rampant instead of respect his area. not only that but ults just ruin the entire idea of builder classes. whats the point of building up all of these time consuming high value buildings when they're just going to get wiped out during a push anyway? it's why overwatch will never be really all that interesting to me. it's like every class has uber, so the entire game becomes "poke to build Ult, Run in, press Q, whoever presses Q the best wins."
