- A little late to the party, but here's my initial thoughts and impressions of the new Dynasty Warriors Origins trailer.
Honestly I'm still shocked and blown away by this trailer, this game looks so damn cool. Can this game live up to the hype? Or will it follow the same trajectory of the most recent handful of Warriors games?
Personally, I'm planning on going into Dynasty Warriors Origins/Dynasty Warriors 10 with an open mind, but with cautious optimism.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Koei needs this to work, or I can't see the franchise surviving in this current gaming climate. That said, what we've seen so far looks hype.

Koei needs this to work because every single new project they've released since Nioh 2 until this game has been plagued with issues: Wo Long runs horrible and does not have any of the combat depth or replay value present in the Nioh games, The Monster Hunter clone that launched before Wo Long has marginally better gameplay but still has all of the performance issues, Rise of the Ronin had the release date /pushed forwards by an entire year/ for no discernable reason and was a complete letdown on every level.
I think Kou Shibusawa retired, and I genuinely believe the company doesn't know what it's doing now that he's gone, so this is the one chance they have to redeem themselves otherwise they risk folding.

Yes we want a DW 3,4 and 5 with XL and empires with their respective games remake or HD remastered.

they should remake dw2 like capcom did with resident evil no need to add the other 50+ chars added in the later games or stuf like that just focus on expanding the game to its maximum fro there do it to the other games to but knowing them theid sell you half the game then exoect you to buy the rest after launch

- Would be absolutely awesome if the the game is a full-fledged Destiny mode
- Cao Cao was about 29 in YT rebellion and 35 in campaign against Dong Zhuo, then he was about 65 in Hanzhong campaign (Mt. Dingjun etc.) and Fan castle (which he died soon after), so it makes good sense here to have young and old models, and it should be for several characters as well.
Exactly and giving that is looking like it's full-fledged Destiny Mode we could be seeing the CAW go through the different years of his/her life starting as a young adult who swears fealty to one of the major players at the time during the Yellow-Turbin Rebellion, or just serves a wandering sword-for-hire and goes through his/her life throughout the entire 3-Kingdoms Period.
But that's just my theory.
Honestly a full fledged "DW 7 Conquest" Game with the Ability to create your own custom character sounds like a dream come true to me.
I'm cautiously optimistic. If this game ends up being similar to Samurai Warriors Chronicles where the main character is a CAW, but you still get to play as the usual cast and go through the story interacting with all of them and choosing which kingdom to fight for, that would be sick. But if every usual character is just downgraded to a UNPC and we only play as a CAW with different weapons, I'd be pretty disappointed. I think this idea has some potential, and it really just depends on how they execute it.
@@ironrex6979 I completely understand how you feel, and I feel the same way. I just want a modern traditional DW game in the same vein as DW5 or even DW8.
But I also recognize there is only so many times you can repeat basically the same story over and over again before general audiences start to lose interest and feel that it has gotten stale. I completely understand why they feel the need to reboot the series and do something different with it. They clearly already realized after DW8 that something new and drastic was needed, they tried it with DW9 and SW5. They’re trying again now and I can’t blame them. I just hope all the characters reappear in some capacity or are free in free mode at the very least.
I pretty much agree with you that I'm cautiously optimistic about this, it looks pretty good, but again this is Koei. One thing I'm kinda worried about is what characters are cut, because if this is sort of a reboot like SW5, then obviously we're not getting every character, which means that some of our favorites are gonna get cut, doesn't matter who's favorite it is, someone's still gonna get one of theirs's gone.
Also, maybe the other characters could be handled like how SW Chronicles did, where you have two or three characters per stage you can switch between on the fly alongside your original character.
It would be amazing if what faction we choose determine the ending. And it would be awesome if we can change factions if we feel betrayed or something.
I love seeing some bladestorm mechanics in this game. its been needing it.
in early Dynasty warriors games, my favorite mission was the battle of chi bi as Wei, rushing half way across the map to fight very hard bosses to prevent the fire attack, in later games they removed this and made it historical and you always lose and have to escort cao cao from the map, i really hope they return to this and make it a feature so you can win battle that were loses in real life, it give the game some fun replayablity

Yup. In dw2 even on normal Wu gained massive Morale if the Fire Attack succeeded.( I like that in Dw2 - Dw5 Empires you can stop the Fire Attack from Happening.
Ah, the days of Dynasty Warriors 3....cheesing Chaos mode by running it to the enemy commander, taking one hit to get your HP red - then slowly but surely, musou-ing him to death.
Wu Zhang plains as Xiahou Dun, on Chaos, on DW3, was one of the hardest parts of a videogame i've ever played.
@@danielseaburg9763 Chaos difficulty didn't exist back then. On dw3xl we had Very Hard Mode which made Yellow Turban Rebellion harder
Hopefully it runs well.
Koei has not had a good track record when it comes to performance since about the PS2 days, in which the games ran at 60 fps.
As long as there is a return towards replayable stages, without the open world, I think I will be hopeful.
For me, the peak gameplay is to play on easy and just have fun wrecking an entire army pretty much all by myself, so what would really make me excited is to be able to create my own character, build them up till I have troops under my command (custom troops would be amazing) , then other generals too, with the end goal to be like some of the more major characters in the game, which would be super fun, plus this can be expanded on if we get an empires version, where we can become the ruler aswell.

I am so excited. Literally when I saw Wo Long, I thought how cool it would be if they had the same character concept for Dynasty Warriors. So now here we are. After I finish my Monster Hunter marathon, this should be out, and I may have to start a Musou Marathon.
My only fear for having a story fully focused on a nameless hero assuming this is our custom character, is the depth of the interaction we'll have with the historical characters. Will we have unique conversations based on our personality and decisions? Or will we all get the same cutscenes?
If it becomes an RPG then I really hope they manage it well since I haven't seen them make an RPG with a custom character.
Overall, it looks like it runs well from the trailer, hopefully we get updates to answer more of our questions.
I hope the story mode offers branching paths including an independent route where your CAW can unite the land and establish a new kingdom. . .
Absolutely screams RPG-esque to me! I believe we'll have a DW 5 XL Destiny mode type deal with this game, where we can go through Yellow Turban Rebellion and Hu Lao Gate as a tutorial/get familiar with the game couple of stages, and then you'll be able to choose which faction your POV character aligns with, Wei, Wu, Shu etc and the story will branch from there. We'll probably start as a volunteer against the Yellow Turbans and build our way up, our choices setting us up to side with one particular faction.
I bet we'll still get a free mode where we can play as the old favourites though! Or maybe bring in Samurai Warriors "partner" system where you can control two officers in one battle, the first being your protagonist and then the second being a secondary general or something.
No idea where they are going to take this - and I like it. I'm cautiously optimistic (lmao you just said that same thing in your video), and I really really am praying for KOEI to get a win on this one. I know I'll be pre-ordering ASAP :)
Aligning with Wu and staying with them any offer I get to betray my family of Tigers and Tigresses by enemy envoys will be met with a swift NO!

This would be their 3rd reboot title, it started with DW6 and 9 (except they didnt removed characters but when it comes to changing the fighting mechanics)
Most likely Jin would be scrapped in favor of adding them to Wei.
Wei, Shu, Wu and Other should be in the game. And i hope we'll get a demo before the full release.
more like 5th the first was like soul calibur, 2-5 are the classic,6 is renbu, 7 and 8 are modern, and 9 is open world
The game looks good, but I'm really surprised by the direction that koei tecmo, Samurai warriors 5 and now Dynasty warriors Origin are taking, they are very different from what they normally bring. Honestly, what I'm looking forward to the most is Warriors Orochi 5 because Warriors Orochi 4 left a bad taste in my mouth and with these recent titles I see it more and more distant.
I wonder how's the DW Ladies in this new Dynasty Warriors Origin...

@@PancakesTsuki Sun Shang Xiang is a safe bet given she's been in every game since the PS1 fighting that started the whole franchise.
The archer scene has me hyped and cautious. I hope we finally have our own troops follow our move instead of just do crap.I also dont want it to be just a revamped bodyguard system or a 1 time "go here" scenematic and it be a scripted archer volley.
A reference point: DW5E when you use the ambush stratgem. All your ambush troops follow your route, instead of following an random AI officer.

think it would be cool if its one campaign with different scenarios depending on choices before and during battle, similar to DW2 altered paths depending on the stages of a battle. i wouldn't mind at all if they brought back the stage progression through menu within the scenario

I know the community wants less characters or bloat, but i hope they at least keep most of the weapons the rocket siege spear is the closest thing to a chainsaw moveset for juilet, or wang yi's emi piercers for yor forger. For my CAWs 🥺
gotta admid that i'm partially agree with what you said and also disagree. having cool weapons is adefinetly a huge plus, but i do not rlly want to see weapons like that rocket spear or deng ai's cross bow spear again. these just do not fit in it, that how i feel atleast
Cautiously optimistic. So far the game looks cool but we don’t know a ton about it, but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more. Hopefully Dynasty Warriors can come back with a heavy hitter after all this time.

One of the best i played was dw8xl, when 9 released it killed the whole franchise off for me so im hoping this is going to bring me back.
Big hopes, but imagine they put a semi storyline choose your adventure kind of game and have "nameless" as the main guy, plucks him into the setting of the 3 kingdoms, and see if he can take over. Basically like a combo of Dynasty Warriors and 三国志 (which is like a chinese version of Civilization in 3 kingdoms setting).
Whats funny is this is giving me the adventures of Craig's Army lol. I hope it's an awesome immersive experience. I wonder if we will be getting a Devil May Cry meets Dynasty Warriors kind of game..

I was thinking, the potantial huge drawback from this way of perspective would be how you going to tell motivations, actions, consequences of our player character that i would say already in rigid, 'set in stone story'?
Since watching almost the whole true historical story from Serious Trivia's 'Let's Talk Lore' series (Which you have to check if you are a Three Kingdoms history maniac like me). We know all the major players, the decisions, the aftermaths of it.
I'm geniunely curious how would they pulled it off in this game? Because some part of me think that don't take the historical characters action away from them. But if you don't pull off our playable character in they would act and react, meaning they just basically humanoid recorder. Then will us be satisfied with that?
Then i thought about Team Ninja's Nioh games, and how they done their story. Well, from what i remember they more broadly followed some of the big event happening in Sengoku Era and also they had more leeway since it has fantasy elements.
So i hope this game could be more grounded version of it, and some of you maybe would not like this but i do prefer to keep the story quite strict to history while developing the characters learning from their action in the romance version and also the real history version.
fans need fun games like used to be, good story line, good reward items, who care about ray tracing or path tracing tweaking
Like you I am also carefully optimistic. Seeing wjat you just posted I will keep some major detailled thoughts I have for that poll i am excited for it.
But the broad strokes of this I can say if they are using the DW9 engine it isnt exactly bad as I believe they havent really fully utilized it in DW9 so it has potential.
Plus it may be due to me being a Tecmo Koei Vet. But i can see plenty of blends in this trailer from previous games in a way. The army charge is very reminiscent of Bladestorm and their mechanics
The archers firing could be a mechanic like the Rush from Arslan Warriors of Legend.
Story wise I would be done if they went the Nioh 2 route but focus well on the DW characters as that is also what makes these games great.

I always love playing RoTK X, the ability to play as created unknown officer, and join any faction u want, raise to the top from bottom. or even make ur own kingdom.
Not to mention bunch sidequest and experiencing many 3 kingdom scenario through pov of unknown character, is so appealing to me. U can experience chibi from caocao side or liu sun alliance side as well, and both has different scene and dialogue.
I kinda wish DW can be like that sometimes, at least to lesser extent. DW5 destiny and empire series kinda lean more into that route, but not quite that expanded yet. Hope this origin can be like RoTK RPG series, but in DW style.
I finally have a reason to buy a PS5 if this pans out to be as great as this trailer shows it to be. This is giving the chills I had when I first played DW3!

I'm excited, I think I am ready for something new that works. You said it perfectly, DW was once a fighter before hack and slash, some changes could be good.
Okay, I'll bite for this one, it looks nice. I would like to see the next one return to the character heavy cast, though. Stay with me here, but if they were to do another game with an initial chapter focusing solely on the time period spanning Yellow Turbans and Dong Zhuo, then add the other main chapters as DLC, each with an additional classic game mode along with it, this would give them time to add characters appropriate to each chapter of the main story with their unique movesets and weapons (and also new skins such as for different ages of the longer living characters included as standard), brand new characters along with them, a few other skins for each (the truly awesome skins like Lu Bu's Dynasty tactics look for instance), new detailed maps with some more interactivity, and more story missions, along with as many as 5 total other game modes that revive and update popular DW game modes and maybe new ones, that would make sure they achieve a high quality of polish AND high volume of content and create as complete and fun a DW experience as possible.
Just think of it as a DW10 with as many as 4 or 5 XL expansions for a single game, that means no one part of the DW mythos feels glossed over or neglected if each part of "The Romance..." is fleshed out, and it's all in one game accessible from one menu over time. In terms of story it would mean they could really pack it in with all the exciting narratives and battles/conversations/other elements taken from the novels, the previous games, the Three Kingdoms tv series, and mythologised variations of events from other sources such as chinese opera, as there are just so many stories written about the famous characters that are either spread out across previous titles or not adapted for the hack and slash genre at all.
If anyone's worried about pricing, then they can release each chapter for 20 bucks each which is cheap for consumers (even less than a PS2 era DW game at early 2000's prices!) but still averages out as a nice earner for Koei bought as a complete set, and with the above suggestions that would mean good value for money for consumers and hefty, definitive gaming experience even without buying some of the tat that has passed for DLC previously. Hell you would also have the option of skipping or holding off on the chapters that don't interest you to save money, if say the late Three Kingdoms period after Liu Bei/Cao Cao/Sun Quan aren't your thing for instance.
Plenty of content in the main game chapters, a return to the classic approach to DW, and the only other DLC being previous songs sets and some non-canon characters (Warriors Orochi and some select SW characters, anyone?) would make fans feel like this will be a definitive DW experience celebrating the series' roots that can be replayed by veterans for years to come, and meaning a promise to innovate going forward won't seem so scary if people can say "That looks good, but I will still want to make time for Dynasty Warriors Ultimate Legends!"
I'm praying they nailed this one.

The voice work in the trailer has me slightly worried that they went for cheap on the VA again like they did on 9 but I'll wait until I see more to develop a strong opinion about it.
For now I am just assuming to keep things simple, our character is goong to be a never remember person in historical path storyline so we act more of a observer to events of DW story as it plays out normally.
For IF scenario path, I can see it as the What IF events for IF our character becomes a important figure that changes events of DW Historical scenario to the IF scenario path.
This trailer got me hyped for a good DW game again. I love the idea of a original character who can probably pick a side, change allegiances, and/or backstab leaders. I'm trying not too get my hopes up too high but if they can pull something like this off it'd be my dream game

Dynasty Warrior over and over again, it kinda tiring to see three kingdom era again. Kinda wish they make the story from Spring and Autumn period even thought i know there's ain't gonna be much. But i guess DW Origin will be like Legends mode with Empire on it, which could be interesting. Hopefully you can raise an armies, built a city, or built a war machine because you can see the environment is affected too

Honestly I thought they did the CAW POV pretty well in the Samurai Warriors Chronicle games so if this is of a similar quality to those then I'm in.
I'll buy if the game will be like the old DW games. Hack and slash arcade style is what DW is all about. Not that open world RPG garbage
Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires I own the physical copy. I love all the things you can do it ,plus customizations. It's my favorite still. "Dynasty Warriors Origins looks pretty great. Hopefully it keeps getting better. Good video 👍

Looks great as long as the legacy characters are playable. The legacy characters better not be skins with their respective move set behind a pay wall.

I wish they could add fist and legs movesets to DW, that we can use as weapons.
If they really made that, finally i can cosplaying as a hand-to-hand martial artist from Jianghu/Murim, or some sort of taekwondo master roaming around 3K period.
The closest thing i got for that is using CAW with Naotora Ii and Gracia weapon in SW 4.
This is what I wanted them to do, making the game focused on a protag with switchable weapons allows them to put more time to polishing up the base roster movesets so when they start on Dynasty Warriors 10 they can combine it with what they have and take the time to make the other units. This way, they cut the costs of making everyone at once and flooding it with clones.
I almost feel as if the name "Origins" means this is a new beginning of the franchise. I think this will serve as a foundation for the next mainline games.
At least I can somewhat write off this installment as its own thing and continue with my own headcanon from DW8 and 9 onwards, akin to the jump from SW4-to-5.

I'm just glad that they're still building on top of DW9. I was really worried that a certain vocal minority might scare them away, and make them pull another DW7, or worse, another SW5. Thankfully, we seem to have avoided that.
I've been playing Dynasty Warriors (DW) since the release of DW 2 for the PS2. The last DW game that was anywhere near decent was DW 6. Go back to the earlier games, as it's been like 25 years since we've had those games. Remaster DW 2, 3, 4 or 5! Stage select, unlocking all the characters, ranking up, weapon and horse/item acquisitions were by far the best iterations of the series! And don't you dare give us anything other than English voice acting! If the old games were a hit, and the new games are a flop, what does that tell you? Go back to making the older games!

Hi, just found your channel. Im torn about this. On one hand it looks good and DW has been needing some love, but on the other hand, i love DW for the history aspect which seems to be sacrificed a lil.
I would prefer a more grounded realistic combat style like the old games. Am I the only one?
Yeah i could see why you would want that. But i'm ok with having flying swords if it only matters in gameplay (meaning don't let any bullshit stuff happened in story cutscenes)

In the hard mode im not talking about just hitting body bags relentlessly but actually harder ai and more kind of like shadow of Mordor but in dynasty warriors style also wish they could add body guards where they actually help when your in trouble they notice and it’s like an all out battle

I always love a custom character concept in SW or DW setting, that's why I love the all the Empires game. That came from the manga series 'RAI', tell a story of an unknown soldier rose up and take the whole galaxy to himself and became an emperor (although the setting is space battle, but the detail in armor and weaponry are all feudal Japan), one of my favorite manga series in my childhood.
I doubt it'll happen and maybe I'm the only one but I'd love if they added the parry mechanics from Wo Long into DW
Could potentially lead to competitive pvp battles and mini bosses on the map would be actually challenging instead of just being damage sponges
I doubt it too, plus you can already see an NPC with super armor in the trailer so I don't have high hopes for any meaningful difficulty. During the jumping slam attack off the horse, after the transition there's an enemy officer ignoring the player character's attacks.
Hyped for this game.
Personally i don't think this is a reboot more of a side thing maybe trying to see if people would like something like this.

The game looks very cool specially since the chinese seem to be funding or having a lot of influence in the production of this new title but i only have one concern where are the guitars and the rock that has characterized the series for so long it would be very sad if they decide to throw music style away. I would still play it even if they change that but i wouldnt be the same

Dynasty Warriors 5 was the last good Warriors game. 6 tried something new, can't fault them for trying something new, but changing everyone's weapons was a dumb idea. 7 - having ''kingdom/force/small selection of said kingdom/force'' to play each stage of a musou - was dumb and stupid. I don't wanna play 6 of the 7 stages, to get to play the character i finally wanted to, in musou mode, the whole time.
Dynasty 8, ditto above.
Dynasty 9, the less said about it the better.
And every new itterance of DW has been more dumbed down, more diluted, less player options....
And instead of a return to ''It ain't broke, don't fix it'', we're going to get even more diluted. Hence my initial paragraph/comment.

And considering how Koei develops their games, i think it's a big no for Empires mode in 3.
The only logical possibility is they are remastering 5 and all of its expansions. Because 5 is the game that bring a lot of their current DW fanbase from EN, SEA, CH, and JP regions.

A "nameless hero........" ????......hmmm i think you will start like one title of DW series when you customise your own character and started as bodyguard of named hero that you choise......do you remember the title bro? If you do plz ,tell me witch one was,becouse i am trying to found it,and propably was from ps2 console,if i am correct
id rather they just remaster the old games tbh ii bet this ones gonna be the same as the other but from the view of a silent protagonist whos a soldier instead of the cool officers we useally use at least they didnt remove lu bu bet they remove a bunch tho and then sell them back to you as microtransaction like the weapons in dw9
