Was living in Seattle When Grunge Broke. It was strange Like all of the sudden our locals were on the TV all the time!!!! AWESOME to be in High School at the time. I miss me
Uplifting, inspiring, brilliant and unspeakably beautiful. Let this be both of their legacies and remember them as a way for us to get through our times of trouble.
One of the most underestimated, or better, unknown songs in history of grunge. They all want to hear black from PJ, but this one is the same level... To me alltime classic.
When I had to drive over icy and snowy roads several years ago to get to my job, I played this songs in my truck. Chris Cornell will never know how great his voice was, aND HOW MUCH HE WAS LOVED BY FANS AND SURELY HIS FAMILY.
No song ever so perfectly summed up addiction. I was there for a decade. I held on to my time, through the grace of God and my woman, whod breathe for me when Id OD. Cat with 9 lives. Somehow. Absolutely beautiful song. And a warning.
I believe Stone Gossard wrote the music and recorded the instrumental track with Jeff Ament, Mike McCready & Matt Cameron. He then sent a tape of it to Eddie Vedder in San Diego (who they were considering as the lead singer for their new post-Mother Love Bone Band). Eddie wrote the lyrics for "Footsteps", sang them over the taped music and returned the demo. This tape also included Eddie's vocals & lyrics for "Alive" and "Once". This trilogy is known as the Momma Son Tape. When Chris Cornell asked Gossard, Ament, McCready & Cameron to play on his Temple of the Dog project, the musical track was offered and Cornell wrote these lyrics to it. So basically, "Footsteps" and "Times of Trouble" are the same song with two different sets of lyrics -- one written by Vedder and the other written by Cornell.
Yeah, times of trouble is obviously about a heroine addict, likely dealing with withdrawals and suicidal, like most, if not all opiate addicts. Footsteps on the other hand seems to be a very personal tale of child sexual abuse.

Times of trouble he's (Chris) talking about his best friend and roommate (Andy, lead singer of MLB) who died from a Heroin overdose.
