The “Girl you better not be dead” text breaks my heart. I lost my best friend in HS and found out she had passed after I wasn’t getting a reply from her all day and I texted “you didn’t die on me did you?” You feel so terrible for making a joke that, if your friend was alive, they would chuckle at, but they’re not.
My great friend and neighbor passed 5 weeks ago today. We were supposed to meet that morning for our usual morning walk. When he didn’t show up or answer calls, I texted him “ you alive over there”? When I hadn’t heard back from him still I called police for a wellness check and was told 4 hours later he had a heart attack the night before! When I found this out I felt horrible and then felt worse because of the text I sent!
Exactly! I cried! And all the pink! I cried even more! The vigil and everything. Brianna touched a lot of lives. Need more people like her. This world needs love not monsters.
I can’t even imagine living and enduring that kind of cruel irony of meeting my best friend in person at her funeral, much less the crimes and pain inflicted on Brianna.
i couldn't even imagine if one of my internet friends was murdered and the only chance i got to meet them was at their funeral. how absolutely devastating.
I have selective mutism and I had to give a witness statement in court after I was harassed and I was not given any accommodations for my disability in court. It really pisses me off he got all this help and he's a murderer and i could not get this as a victim of harassment. This case is truly sickening. My heart goes out to the victim and her family.
I'm so sorry to hear about your mistreatment I hope you are doing well as well can be expected and have been able2 resolve at least something legally,of course, regarding your harassment Case. 🫶🏽
I found this very sad to read. You are so strong. I am so sorry for the mistreatment you received. Here you are sending love to the victim and family while being treated so badly in your time of need. It really shows the person you are. I hope you get the Justice you deserve and continue to spread your message. Love and thoughts your way!
A guy from my high school class murdered a trans girl i knew. This was a very small school in the countryside of Sweden. I did meet the girl at a big party where I left my friends to spend the night with her. She was life, she was brightness and darkness and swept me right away with her chaos. She was beautiful and kind, her name was Emilia Lundberg. This murder didnt get any recognition and was brushed under the rug because drugs was involved. HIS name was Andreas Andersson (his identity was protected and his name not mentioned by media). HE GOT 15 YEARS. He was 21 and got 15 years because of his age for the brutal murder of Emilia. She was found in the river going through the town, stabbed and beaten to death. I will always remember her, and the vile injustice of this case.
Honestly it's so fucking stupid how some cases and murderers get let off the hook because "They were under the influence!" "They were on drugs!" "They have mental issues!". Honestly I think the justice system needs a reboot because it's becoming a joke on how many people get let loose because of small things even after committing an undoable crime. I'm genuinely sorry for your loss xx. I hope Emilia finally gets her justice and that Andreas Andersson gets what's coming to him. Fly high Emilia xx 🕊🤍🕊🤍
@@SuperstarMelodii yeah and we in scandinavia live to talk about how good our system is, but we don’t wanna talk about the uncomfortable and ugly.. thank you so much for your words
I just watched that movie for the first time after I heard someone mention how his life was like that movie in his recorded jail phone call. (It was in the Ernesto Williams calls on Phone Calls From Prison's channel 😂)
- anxiety because they got caught and now realize that they can face a lot of years in jail. No compassion or caring about the person they killed and her family that will never have this person in their lives again. So sad. 😢
@@gerudraven2881 Depends on the person. People with ASPD rarely actually kill, they just don't feel any empathy and have a sort of "emptiness" that makes them distant from everyone else in the world. From what I understood back in school, it's like 6% of the population who have this condition. While they by nature wouldn't feel anything if they did kill a person, they still would be able to recognize how it would effect them legally. It could also be that they were so poorly raised that they became monsters due to their clearly horrid upbringings. Like... One kid was able to get their hands on drugs multiple times, while the other had a pedophile as a father. Not to mention both kids having multiple indications of some sort of neurodivergence on top of it all... Really, they could have any number of conditions.
If you don't want to face the consequences of murder and the thought of that makes you anxious, don't do it. You brought this upon yourself and do not deserve to play with toys in *COURT.*
When the funeral came and the online friend had shown up, my heart DROPPED and SHATTERED at the fact that it was the first time they would be meeting. :(
The fact that they were allowed to have fidget spinners and sudoku books in the court room is completely disrespectful to briannas family in my opinion.
It's crazier than that. Eddie was in a different room, and had a support person. He would type his answers and the support person would read them out loud on the camera for the jury and the court.
I think it was planned by their defense. Make them seem dumb or childish, or incapable of speech or coping. It'll push the "they couldn't have done this!" Narrative. These kids aren't dumb and lawyers aren't either.
hearing how violently brianna's life was tragically taken away from her and how her best friend, amelia, met brianna for the first time at brianna's funeral absolutely broke me. rest in peace, angel
This is a very charitable way to describe this. You don't meet a dead person u freak. You can goto a dead persons funeral who you were friends with but never met. You don't "MEET" a dead person at a funeral god u people are so weird, and all 36 people who upvoted this and the comment above.
I agree. If you can be that evil as a teen, then we all need to know who you are for life. I’m sorry but no amount of rehab is going to stop someone who has bloodlust.
I'm honestly in two minds about it. The side that supports it is like yes, they deserve to be named and shame. The side that doesn’t is more towards the media and their use of her photo. A lot of these people want the fame from their killings and by getting their picture in every newspaper, they've got what they wanted. Scarlett's face was everywhere when it should have been Brianna's face. (Editted because I made a spelling mistake!)

What I think is terrifying is that Scarlet was able to act so friendly to Brianna’s face, she went to McDonald’s with her, just did normal things … all while trying to kill her.
You’d be surprised the lengths homophobes and transphobes will go to protect their made up fantasy land. While most may not go to murder, they still go out of their way to discrimate against these people.
I lived around the same area a few years back, Eddie's Dad actually tried to lure my little girl into the house, she was supposed to call at the house so eddies sister could play outside, when my daughter knocked on the door, the dad answered and told her that his daughter was not home yet, but if she wanted to, my daughter could come in and wait with him. My lil girl refused and walked off, a few moments later my daughter got a call from Eddie's sister, saying " i thought you was coming round?" She told my lil girl, that her dad is strange saying "he knew I was inside upstairs, why would he say that to you?" I was told this story today, as Eddie ratcliffes dad has now this week been found guilty of taking pictures of kids. I'm so relieved that my daughter walked off.
Just because someone is different doesn't give you the right to take their life. He should never be allowed into the society . A monster like him will be a monster no matter what.
They both targeted her because she was an easy victim. Thry had a list of FIVE kids they wanted to m...., but Brianna was the only one they had easy access to. Watch the BBC documentary here. They wanted to be serial ki*lers.
@mysticloverfairy1 Scarlett was the one initiating it and she kept pushing. Definitely just as bad, she wanted to become a serial ki*ler and made a list of 5 kids to go after.
Brianna was an online friend of mine. We never met but she was always so lively. I really appreciate you keeping her image alive and not disrespecting her in any way. I cried the whole time listening to this episode, but I’m extremely happy you made it

For REAL. Like he took every single future experience of Brianna’s away from her. A kind and beautiful girl who had so much to give the world. She’ll never get to eat her favourite foods again or fall in love or do all the things a teenage girl has to look forward to. And he has the audacity to complain about your fruit not being fresh. He deserves his fruit rotten, makes me so mad.
I rolled my eyes too. I said ok hybristophiliac... you think she'd still be infatuated if she was near him, smelled his breath, was a victim to even half of what he would do? Yea I'm all for true crime, but if you think thats hot, you need help.
hey! I was a friend of Brianna's and im so glad you've covered her story. I had found out she passed away on tiktok of all places and i was absolutely shattered, You never think something like this can happen to the people you love, but then it does. we arent the most amazingly close but every time i spoke to her online she made me laugh, we met through a mutual friend and i will forever thank them for introducing me and man does it suck she had to leave so early. Brianna Is and will continue to be missed by all of us and she is a prime example of why we have to protect our trans youth. edit- I should mention everything said about how amazing she was is true. i confided in her about a heavy situation i was going through and she was nothing but kind and it enrages me that someone with so much love was shown nothing but hatred by the people she trusted, its insane to think that this angel of a girl whos saved many people has no chance at being saved.
I'm so sorry for your loss.. Brianna seemed like a wonderful person and a true light in this world! its never talked about but the crushing despair and hopelessness and fear you feel as a trans person just from the way we are treated and having our lives and rights taken is so hard to live through. It drives me to suicidal thoughts frequently, it is the most soul crushing guttural feeling on this earth. People like to say trans suicide rates are high because we’re delusional and then scoff when we say the rates are high because of people like them, because it’s true. just wanted to add this but about a month ago the prime minister of the UK made a very insienitive "joke" about trans people while Brianna Ghey's MOTHER was in parliament. He has refused to apologise and has instead doubled down.
Was going to say this. He claimed that the opposition was using Brianna's death as a way to detract and that it demonstrated the "worst of politics" after he literally couldn't help himself from making a jab at trans people in HOC knowing Brianna's mother was there. seriously?
I, too, had a ‘friend’ who stabbed me in my home at 16. Broke in and tried to attack me in my sleep. The thought in my mind all through dinner was "If anyone ever hurts him, I'll kill them." He's my heart and soul. It's really disheartening to know that schools in the UK still put socially anxious/struggling kids together with those who have anger issues/behaviour problems-- more than ten years ago this happened to me, I got more bullied due to it and had to leave. It's so so so upsetting to know this could've possibly been avoided if our school system/mental health systems were better.
America does this aswell. I went to a therapeutic school, and they put me in a class with a violent autistic kid who used his autism as an excuse. I have anxiety and they decided it was a good idea to keep me in class with a kid who threatened me, and harassed me. Reminder it's a therapeutic school.
The part of the story where you mentioned that Brianna was in an inclusion unit reminded me of what happened to me as a child. I was heavily bullied to the point where I could no longer even walk through the school gates. I started "therapy" and was moved to a centre for disruptive children and learning disabilities, I felt so out of place surrounded by kids from abusive homes and never understood why I had I to leave and the bullies didn't. By mixing Brianna and Scarlet in the same unit the school had already failed her on their part. It's upsetting to see nothing has changed since then. Rest in Peace Brianna, you deserved so much better ❤
Something is terrifyingly wrong with our society... a girl killed herself, here in Spain, due to continous bullying and harrassing and when the bullies heard that she was dead cause of them they started celebrating it. Like literally sending each other texts saying " good, she's finally dead!", "how great that she killed herself!"... When did everything went so wrong in our society? Bullying is not something new as I, myself, was a victim of bullying in highschool, but it never went to such extremes. To kill someone and not even feel remorse and realize that what you have done is an atrocity?
eso dónde y cuándo??? es realmente asqueroso lo horrible que puede llegar a ser la gente, nunca lo entenderé, ojalá los manden a la cárcel porque vamos…
It’s messed up. I’ve been on both ends but mostly on the victim end as my “bully” streak was me fighting against my bullies. I’m glad that the bullies I had at most did the isolation and weak kicks and punches (elementary kids) but I remember Stephanie talking about the real life glory bullying stuff and other bullying related shit…. People are so power hungry and depraved that they don’t understand that the world doesn’t revolve around them and even if they’re struggling it doesn’t give them the right to lash out on other people
I’ve been a bully and I’ve been a victim of bullying. I hope one day that when the bullies will get older they will reflect, and when they do I hope they feel empathy and somewhat regretful. At this point, joking about another persons death isn’t bullying; it is straight up evil 😞
It did, you just couldn't hear about it, you really think things are worse now than like in the 60s? Where poc people where hanged in the street, there has always been horrible people, you just didn't see it
the only real difference is now we have social media and awareness, so we can openly talk about it, but COME ON, it isn't even 200 years since women were considered men's property, and mental illness was treated by locking people in dungeons, so how can you think things got worse?
Honestly, I feel like as much as Eddie hated trans people, Scarlet fetishized them, or at least she fetishized Brianna's transness. The way she brings that up in her first text to Eddie is unsettling. I don't think either of them truly viewed Brianna as a human being.

@@EllaGreennit was a hate crime, scarlet was definitely heated by the fact that a trans girl was way prettier than her. Kind of like a “how dare this person is better than me” literally
@@EllaGreenn No.. No it was a hate crime and I'll tell you why. Scarlet is a spiteful angry girl who thought being emo was her personality trait. She deliberately PICKED Brianna out of anyone else and decided to kill her. She and Eddie would proceed to dehumanize her by misgendering her, and even chose "Gay" as their code. If that isn't a hate crime, then I really don't know what is.
My daughter was another internet friend of Brianna… She was heartbroken and couldn’t bare to travel to the funeral. Brianna made so many people happy and stronger for just being who she was. that joking text about "you better not be dead" really got me. In high school a close friend of mine passed away and they called my class out to tell us. I remember jokingly saying, "somebody must have died for them to let us skip math," and 10 years later I still feel so terrible.
In hs my classmate would always be late to 2nd period and a certain person would say “oh she died” everyday as a joke. Sadly enough that classmate actually died in 2nd period in front of everybody in the classroom including the person who constantly made that joke. They would skip 2nd period for the rest of that year and I’m sure it still eats away at them every time they think about it
But you still said it? Its funny how they ALWAYS Say your past doesnt Dictate who you are but..... Yes it does.... Not trying to put you down. But again you Said it 🤷♂️
The lack of empathy is so alarming... I keep saying... Who raises these kids and don't realize that something is wrong.. EDIT: I am humbled by the love. Even if you disagree, we can still be friends.
Eddie is autistic, and Scarlett has ADHD. They both struggled with anxiety, so maybe the parents cut them some slack. I have ADHD and ASD both, and in the UK there are legally seen as disabilities. Most often than not, neurodivergent children are bullied, excluded, harassed themselves for being a bit different, and they develop social anxiety and sometimes depression from a young age.
No question about it, it was a hate crime. With Eddie hating trans people and Scarlet fetishizing and placing Brianna on a pedestal. Rest in Peace Brianna, she sounded like a beautiful soul
Im leaning toward hate crime too but its honestly just as likely that she was simply an easier target being the reason they targeted her. Like if she had the same anxieties and awkwardness without being trans he (in that hypothetical of not being trans) would have been targeted just the same but I have never believed in the mentality that if someone is from a certain group and they're attacked that it becomes a hate crime by default, that mentality is turning it into more of a meme of a privileged class which is causing way more harm than good
@@JohnDoe-og2bt I am completely aware of that as well. I know when any crime happens to someone considered a minority, it's automatically a hate crime. When in reality, the person that committed the crime probably wasn't thinking of the color of their skin, their gender etc. They were just looking for someone vulnerable, or alone. OR, they are two people with personal drama that went too far. I understand a person killing a trans person is not an automatic hate crime. It can be hard to determine where the line is drawn, and it's not so black and white. Over all I feel like trans people could be more vulnerable to crimes by the nature of stigma and people disliking them. Especially depending on what country/area you live in. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
@@JohnDoe-og2bt My gut says hate crime because every other person on that list, Eddie talked Scarlett down or got disinterested over. He didn't for Brianna. He encouraged it and the way he engaged with Scarlett about it said a very different story to the others. Brianna's trusting of Scarlett was preyed on for sure, she was vulnerable, so there's some complex elements in this that can't be put towards that. They would have hurt that Eric kid, but they let him go when he didn't take the bait. They never tried again. What made Brianna different? Because she didn't go meet them on one of the times. So what kept the fixation going? They tried THREE times and succeeded the third because Eddie hated Brianna's transness enough to not talk Scarlett down and Scarlett was jealous and stubborn to the idea of killing her. That's my take on it, it wasn't a big rage fuelled attack in the standard sense, but it was encouraged to some degree by both parties. I agree though that it's more nuanced. It could have just been Scarlett couldn't get anyone else but Eddie's comments and calling her 'it' and all this, it just sits rotten. Idk.
I breathed out the biggest sigh of absolute sadness and disbelief when you said Amelia met Brianna for the first time at her funeral. The amount of disrespect and unjustifiable behaviour from the media and spectators deadnaming Brianna is honestly disheartening. I'm genuinely speechless, one of my best friends is transgender (FTM) and I couldn't imagine losing him in such a cruel way, and then to have to mourn him with people saying such things and deadnaming him. Honestly disgusting and saddening, this is the kind of thing to make me lose faith in humanity.
to think there's so much hate in this world, but the fact everyone wore pink to Brianna's funeral, just brought tears to my eyes.. she was just a young kid, she had her entire life ahead of her, yet adults like the journalism in this case truly killed her a second time with their thoughtless words rest in peace & pride //
My girlfriend is trans and she tells me that she's gonna get hunted down and assaulted and as a partner, i try my best to calm her down. After watching this i get why she's nervous. Because people like the killer exist. Bad people exist yes. But you have ABSOLUTELY no reason to harm someone in anyway shape or form just because of their personal decision. Yes you may dislike trans people but you and all of humanity does not have any right to harm or embarrass anyone for going through life like you do. And to my trans folks, i hope all of you are safe and healthy. Dont let the actions of the bad apples get to you. Boy or girl or anything else, you are valid! You are important and amazing!! Stay safe and be you! 💕
the most warped and fascinating thing about this is that the Police didn't rule it as pure Transphobia. and looking at Scarlet's texts to Eddie, it's clear to see why. She clearly respected her pronouns and not only see Brianna as a women, but as a Competitor and a Rival. Competition that in her view needs to be erased. Jesus christ, for Eddie he's transphobic, but for Scarlet?.... its pure jealously. Pure. unadulterated, Envy. Brianna mastered the looks Scarlet couldn't, in response she did something beyond evil and petty.
Maybe it came down to the literal meaning of Transphobia - which means excessive fear for trans. They are not fearful of Brianna. They hate her for being trans. There is a difference between 'hate' and ' fear'. It is just my thought. I might be wrong.
@@Satanabi well, still no. by that definition, only Eddie is transphobic. which he is. But Scarlet? nah, she respected everything about her pronouns and looks. Samira Ayalne… she went to my uni and was missing for 3 weeks, she was found on a river bank with no ID and so the day she was found missing (3 weeks prior) no one could ID her. The students at my university are trying to build the awareness for her because we are angry at police and at our university
The two monsters that killed Brianna have convinced me that some people are just born f*cked in the head to an un rehabilitating degree. The fact that teenagers and even small kids have plotted to do harm or worse to their peers and succeeded is terrifying.
I think the idea that anyone can turn into a monster like this is scarier. Bullying can escalate when the abusers egg each other in for example, especially when they are teens or children. I have a child and I worry every day what going to kindergarten and schhol will turn them into. I can only teach them to be kind, but when every single other interaction in their life might end up brutal cruelty or in the teachers' case, annoyed indifference? I can only hope their school years will be better than mine were
I remember once that Steph said something like this: I believe everyone is born either a gun or a teddy bear. Now imagine the trauma they’ve experienced is a bullet. It will load the gun and hurt others, or it will get stuck in the teddy, and only hurt the teddy. I believe it was about the six year old serial killer she covered and I fully believe this.
@@maniaclaugh I genuinely want to give you honest input in regards to your worries and I hope you believe me that I have the best in mind for you and your family. There are fundamentally two more things besides instilling kindness that you as a parent can do to help your child grow up with the strength to do the right things, no matter the peer pressure: -avoid building any sort of resentment -teach them mindfulness and meditation and see that they understand their capacity to hurt and harm and how to only do so in self-defense and when absolutely needed. To not build resentment in your child, you yourself have to be grounded, emotionally healthy, aware of your own needs and how to get them met. You also need to see your children as the full humans they are, make them feel that their needs are just as important as anyone else's and give them as much autonomy and responsibility as they are able to handle and want to do so, as well as the circumstances allow. If your child doesn't have a significant amount of frustration built up, then it won't have the need to lash out at someone weaker when given the chance. Next up is to teach your child to be aware of how their words can hurt others and of how they physically can really hurt someone when they lose control. You'll have plenty of moments that present a good teaching opportunity in these regards. A more advanced and incredibly valuable lesson is how to be mindful, especially of one's own motivations and regarding this issue, of the more primal impulses. Children and especially teenagers can meditate and it is THE way to become aware of one's impulses before they manifest. Just the practice of mindfulness and meditation itself will do the trick. It's a bit of a cliche, but martial arts are usually great in many of these regards. Teach your child how to fight, so they never have to. If your child is emotionally healthy and mindful of their impulses, then you can be assured that they'll withstand negative influences.
You want to believe that because you don’t want to think that these sort of actions are the product of the society we live in, but they are. Yes, these kids were predisposed to violence. But they chose Brianna specifically because of the hatred they have grown up being taught. We should not be brushing that fact under the rug.
Anyone is capable of anything, people who say they could never do something like murder or whatever, just haven't been presented a situation severe enough where they had to choose that. Monsters aren't born, they are created by society and in cases with children they have problematic behaviors that are ignored or even enabled by adults around them.
i really like how Stephanie covered this case because it's been really influential in the UK but still some people are still not taking it seriously like our prime minister.
What do you expect PM to say? It is not common for “trans” people to be murdered more than women. It was a heinous crime by hateful individuals. To put in perspective for all who push a false narrative: 1 “transwoman” murdered in UK last year; 3 women a week murdered.. Here in U.S: Mahogany Jackson, a Birmingham mother held against her will & tortured for hours before being killed by a gunshot in February - 7 people arrested for the brutal crime, no mention by those in gov’t, people aren’t “taking it seriously” I guess.
@@madwickedfollyYou’d expect him to at least not push such hateful narratives about trans people. Like really, no one is describing the fact that women are killed often. But remember anti-trans thoughts greatly effect women as well. We are both at risk.
@@freddiebishop9622 what hateful narratives is it that the PM pushes? I simply stated a fact that those with a comprehension problem never want to hear because it challenges their belief system.
@@madwickedfollyyou’re american so i don’t expect you to know what we’re talking about, our dickhead prime minister thought it would be an appropriate time to diss another MP and make a transphobic remark in the process, while BRIANNA’s mother was in the house of commons. This is just one out of a string of events of him being transphobic, he owed us all a lot of words actually and all we got was sarcasm and a half arsed “apology” let me be clear Us brits fucking hate sunak and the tories right now, he is absolutely relevant in a hate crime against a young trans girl, he and the tories have been feeding into trans hate for a while now.
im a trans girl thank you for not hesitating to tell the story. i wish people like the perpetrators didn't get defended like many people defend them. trans women dont deserve to be treated like shit... ill try to shout it as loud as i can, but no one will probably ever hear me.
No one deserves to be treated for who they are. But respect comes from both ways. I know a few transwomen who are aware they're biological males and don't go into women spaces. This I respect and I really think that's the main problem people have with trans, many don't understand boundaries. I believe if we can be who we are without affecting other people, no one would be bothered and we can all live in harmony. Although there will always be bad apples on either side.
@@Lulu-xl5cm You are not a savior. you are not helping anyone by saying that. Cis men will still go into women's restrooms. Cis men will still try to come into women's spaces. Denying women women's spaces is not only misogynistic but also degressive. I will go into the bathroom I want, trust me. I'm a trans male and I will not be stopped because someone like you cannot fathom I need to use the restroom and leave. The trans women you're friends with are trans medicalists likely, which are neither accepted nor tolerable in the transgender community. You are not a savior. It's not okay for you to try and say to respect everyone. Trans people will ALWAYS have less respect than cis people. The only vibe I'm receiving from you is "I'm a lukewarm ally that only says I support CERTAIN trans people so I can get transgender approval, but when it comes to people who are actually living, I don't care!" You're not an ally, you're a cherry picker. I will continue to live on as a male in male spaces.

What do you expect the Prime Minister to do? There are probsbly tens of stabbing in London on a daily basis, and it's all young people. People get targeted all the time for hate crimes, for the race, sex, being an immigrant, homeless, etc. And the PM is kind of useless at best 😢
@@livgrace2460that's disgusting of him, but I'm not shocked. As a disabled person, I know most people with MH problems or disabilities are treated by second hand humans by the government and the system. And as an immigrant, I always read abuse against my own online.
I have to say, I really like your approach to true crime. You capture who the person really was, Brianna's quirks and personality etc. It really humanises the victims at the centre of all of this and just shows how cruel and senseless these crimes really are. So thank you for your work!
His “I know gay people” comment is definitely giving “I can’t be racist, some of my best friends are black” 😒….riiiight 🙄. I just hope that they are never given parole.
As someone who’s socially anxious and has been diagnosed with social anxiety, seeing her mother being proud of her socially achievements broke my heart. Thank you for covering this horrible tragedy. Another kid was killed, Nex, because of similar hate and bullying. I hope spreading awareness about these horrible cases about ANY gender or identity get people to truly see the horrors of humanity
The team might've been waiting on the final verdict on their death. I do hope they cover Nex's case though, they were failed by the system just like Brianna.
That case isn't comparable. Nex committed suicide, is non-binary, and initiated the physical altercation the day before their death. Nex' bullying was well known an they were let down by the school (not calling the police after she was beat is INSANE), whereas Brianna's murder was a surprise. Etc. Not all LGBT people are The Same. @@Zombii_x did you... watch the video? they were absolutely targeted for their identities. the texts between brianna's killers were full of transphobia. discussing the genitals of a 16yo girl is a transphobic classic. on the other hand, nex told their family about being bullied for their identity more than a year before their death. their suicide is a direct result of bullying from their classmates.
@@Zombii_xYeah, no. You have zero authority to try and say this had nothing to do with their identities, as it absolutely did. Your voice in this situation is meaningless and unwelcome. Thanks.
reminder that the victim being trans is not an open invitation for people to share their unwarranted opinions on trans people. nobody cares if you think “this case is terrible BUT these pronouns are going too far” or “i think she should’ve have been murdered BUT i’m against minors transitioning.” read the room, now is not the time or place for that discussion. we should be honoring the victim, not debating about her identity.

No fucking way he held up a sign that said “not guilty” after he committed the fucking crime. This makes me sick. And the fact that Brianna thought scarlet was a friend and hoped she would drop the knife, and wondered why she deserved that after being so nice to scarlet…. They both deserve LIFE. Idk about the UK, but in the US there is zero legal benefit to pleading guilty in a criminal case. That applies even to people who know they are guilty unless there is a preponderance of evidence against them.
@@jnhartonit matters for sentencing in the UK, there’s a range of sentences for each crime, you start at a sort of baseline sentence, and that sentence can go up to the maximum or down to the minimum depending on a variety of factors, all of which are considered. The sentencing difference between someone who immediately holds their hands up, cooperates with police, says “I did it, I knew it was wrong, I’m sorry for my actions,” and someone who refuses to admit any wrongdoing even in the face of evidence ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ can be quite large.
Being interested in the dark and scary. and serial killers/true crime doesn't make someone evil. But scarlet was OBSESSED, to the point she idolized horrible monsters and even ADMIRED them enough to wanna recreate it. This just makes me sick to my stomach. Im glad the parents of the monsters disowned (at least scarlets), there are too many cases where parents of monsters are blinded by motherly/fatherly love, I'm glad this case is not one of them.

She was a teen, she was autistic, she had ADHD, she had anxiety and she was trans. She was just like me. She didn't deserve this. She had her whole life ahead of her, she was beautiful, she could have been a model if she wanted, but these monsters took that away from her. This is unfair and brutal and so so tragic. It's awful that a girl that was just like me had to die. rest in peace, Brianna...
I work at a summer camp (based on the Party Jackson series) where a bunch of our campers and now are staff ...we check pretty much all of those boxes. We often refer to it as 'gay pagan larp camp'. We are also in Texas. Let that one sink in as well. For some of our kids, that is the one week out of the year they feel safe to be their true selves. We shouldn't have to create safe spaces, because everyone should just be safe to live...
Eye contact issues are common in autism and doesn't necessarily mean heartless killer. Just wanted to point that one thing out. These two were complete monsters though.
Got to add that Brianna’s mother also went on to urge that the families of the killers should NOT be receiving hate. That those families also lost children and she would not stand for hate being any part of Brianna’s legacy. Incredibly powerful ❤

You have such a gift for storytelling. I know these aren’t “stories”, but your delivery is so engaging and passionate and real. Great great work! *wow. This is such a beautiful tribute. The line about being someone’s strength when you’re at your weakest. And that she did that every day.
I don't know with that reason he could have reasonably even tried to plead not guilty. There is so much evidence that they planned to murder someone and then specifically the future victim for months. There is proof both of them were more than a bit mentally disturbed for even longer. He's absolutely guilty and so is she. Brianna was a victim of these two who showed so many signs that nobody did anything about until it was too late.
The problem is they don’t view Bri as a person. These, will not even call them trash for that is disrespectful to trash, do not deserve to be apart of this world.
I genuinely appreciate the fact that you handled this case the way it is. Brinna was murdered for her identity, it was not random. Thank you for speaking the truth.

It must take a lot of passion and patience, to be able to research your cases so thoroughly, simply because you want people to really get a sense for who the victims in these cases were as individuals, not just their names, faces, or being victims of such horrible crimes. Thank you, RT, for all of your hard work, research, and all that you put into these videos. Thank you for taking the time to research/get to know who the victims were as people, and not just focusing on the crime itself, thank you for sharing with us who they were beforehand ❤
Hate crimes are pointless enhancers. A crime is a crime, and ironically enough, it's been shown that making special enhancers for "minorities" just further "others" them.
For Eddie? Maybe, but rather not in particular. For Scarlett though it was apparently a "love" crime (Jeffrey Dahmer kind of "love"). Does it makes the murder any better?
honestly its totally unjust but for scarlette it was more bitter jealousy because as she said herself that brianna was prettier than her and she was jealous i dont think they killed her solely because she was trans more becuase they had to kill somebody one way or another and brianna just so happened to be so kind that she couldnt see past their bad reputation
i fully believe this wasn’t labeled as a hate crime (i think not officially?) because the british government is sooooo deeply transphobic. both the “democrats” and “republicans” (don’t make me remember the parties i know one is labor) are transphobic, so no one in power (especially in the media) had motivation to fight for brianna 😔
@@ForeverL0vingH3rI think that was true for Scarlett mostly but for Eddie he definitely had a dislike for her because she was trans and a lot of his motive for helping Scarlett was out of his own morbid interest

I think because Brianna was fetishize by her murderer. Making it a case of Envy. Since Brianna has some stunning genetic traits, most trans victims were killed by men, but being murdered by women?... it's envy.

I've been presenting as transmasc since I was a small kid. When I was 8, some of the older neighbor kids liked pulling my pants down to see what genitals I had and if I'd "grown a d*** yet." I started wearing overalls outside. I'm from south america and being a trans kid there was miserably hard. Every time I hear of a trans person being murdered it really hurts the kid inside me who didn't know until age 20 that I'm not just a girl. Thank you for covering this Stephanie, and for all the work and amazing narration you put into your videos. 🏳️⚧️❤🏳️🌈
I’m sorry you were abused by those kids - that was hurtful and makes me wonder if they had some sort of predisposition to sexually assaulting people. Hope you find peace in your life.
Don't worry, if you look up the numbers you'll see that people outside of the lgbt+ get murdered a lot more. Just live your life, life is too good to waste in fear.
For me as an autistic person, who naturally avoids eye contact, but has trained themselves into looking people in the eye and just recently learned that making eye contact doesn't mean "stare into their soul", hearing about the rules of keeping eye contact, how many seconds, that it comes natural for people, was a bit mindblowing 😅.
I don't really notice or care when people don't look in my eyes. If I notice someone is looking there, I will look at them back in their eyes to be polite. I know when to look away once it feels the same as when you hug someone, and it starts to get uncomfortable if it goes on any longer. Looking in someone's eyes is like physical contact to me, so I think similar rules apply. Sorry for the rant. lol just dont be too hard on yourself if you don't make eye contact alot, some people (like me) don't care.
Oh my god, same. I trained myself to make eye contact and I've relatively recently noticed that I may or may not have come off as creepy to my teachers for it.
Please look into masking. It's damaging mentally, and DON'T feel like you have to conform. I'm shocked that Stephanie made such an insensitive comment, as an AuDHDer myself I've always struggled with eye contact. I'm 42 and only diagnosed with ADHD last year, and it opened my eyes to my life long struggles.
It makes me so angry that they weren’t charged with a hate crime because it absolutely was. It sounds like Brianna was an amazing person she looked so beautiful and sweet. The fact that it was the first time she took the bus alone really hit hard it shows how young she was, how much more of life she had to experience. And because of my social anxiety disorder I congratulate myself on small accomplishments like taking the bus and getting out of the house so I can understand how her taking the bus alone to meet up with some friends was an accomplishment her mom was probably proud of but it lead to her life ending so tragically.
for Eddie he's the true Transphobe. Most of the Transphobia is from Eddie's genuine beliefs. For Scarlet she seems to purely want a target to kill. So she larps as one to lure in a murderous bigot, but surprise the bigot was too weak so Scarlet, being the evil witch she is, finishes the job for him. Evil goes beyond even identity as she even wanted to kill the rest of her friends she deems "weak", and even her care takers.
Exactly. At the very least the dude should've gotten a hate crime charge. I can understand scarlet not getting one cause she seemed to respect her pronouns (thinking of what another comment said about why they thought the police didn't rule it hate crime) and she had a weird infatuation and fetish about Brianna

im so glad this is on your channel! the two killers went to my school- culcheth, i used to call eddie ''jesus'' when i walked past him as a joke, he always used to laugh it off but now i realise how bad that was. i remember the next day in school my mum was really nervous about letting me go in because there was an investigation at my school although they had both been arrested. before their anonymity was taken, everyone in our area knew who it was, theres this thing called ''google classroom'' where all the students pictures are on, and their school email addresses, we were all getting their photos there (eddie and scarlett) but once the school caught on that we had their photos, they took them down. any posts, videos, tweets, ect, would all be taken down within the day due to their anonymity still up. it was odd because we all knew who they were, we had all spoken to scarlett and eddie, but the poor girl, brianna had been expelled from my school (culcheth) and had joined birchwood, a school very close to mine.

One of them (talking about Brianna) said "she can't control that, why would they kill her for that?".
In Japan there's a concept called "chunibyo" or "8th-grader syndrome", it's like a youthful delusion a lot of teens have where they imagine themselves as a hero, supervillain, having secret superpowers etc. and act out their fantasy like wearing certain clothes or posing. It's like a perfectly normal melodramatic "cringe phase" that a lot of teens do to stand out and then cringe at later in life, but with those two it seemed like they just enabled and fed into each other's "I'm totally a stone-cold killer" delusions to the maximum with how casually they talked about killing or their "accomplishments", like they were constantly trying to one-up each other.

Exactly. Even though he's still technically a child, letting him be known/accountable puts other children less at risk. Which IMO is more important.
I'm honestly in two minds about it. The side that supports it is like yes, they deserve to be named and shame. The side that doesn’t is more towards the media and their use of her photo. A lot of these people want the fame from their killings and by getting their picture in every newspaper, they've got what they wanted. My lil girl refused and walked off, a few moments later my daughter got a call from Eddie's sister, saying " i thought you was coming round?" She told my lil girl, that her dad is strange saying "he knew I was inside upstairs, why would he say that to you?" It's really disheartening to know that schools in the UK still put socially anxious/struggling kids together with those who have anger issues/behaviour problems-- more than ten years ago this happened to me, I got more bullied due to it and had to leave. It's so so so upsetting to know this could've possibly been avoided if our school system/mental health systems were better.
I'm sorry that happened to you.
Yeah that's so maddening, what! I'm so sorry you went through that.
My school counsellor in secondary school forgot about me
That's how it is in America too. It's alternative schools, doesn't matter if your anxious or homicidal you're going to that school

@@zainab_hashmiii Thank you xD
Idk.

She's not transphobic, Eddie is, she's using a Transphobe to lure eyes away from her envy.
as a trans man..thank you for talking so sweetly about Brianna. It's so rare, to hear ppl talk about us in such a loving way. you will always loved by someone never forget that
I don’t know if you live in England or not, but pretty much everyone remembered her this way here. She was just a child who struggled with anxiety and having pushed past that to go out, had such an evil thing happen to her by someone she should have been able to trust. She was a kid and no child deserves that. From everything I read in the papers at the time, it sounded like she was a very sweet girl.

Brianna was simply unapologetically herself, she loved life, and from what we hear from her here, she was a gem of a person. It must have taken a lot of strength for her with her anxiety to take the bus like that. I'm so sorry that her life was cut short like this, in such a horrifying way. Hate crimes are the worst.

I can only hope their school years will be better than mine were
I remember once that Steph said something like this:
I believe everyone is born either a gun or a teddy bear.
There are fundamentally two more things besides instilling kindness that you as a parent can do to help your child grow up with the strength to do the right things, no matter the peer pressure:
-avoid building any sort of resentment
-teach them mindfulness and meditation and see that they understand their capacity to hurt and harm and how to only do so in self-defense and when absolutely needed.
God I hate our government
We are both at risk.

im a trans girl thank you for not hesitating to tell the story. i wish people like the perpetrators didn't get defended like many people defend them. trans women dont deserve to be treated like shit... ill try to shout it as loud as i can, but no one will probably ever hear me.

I'm 42 and only diagnosed with ADHD last year, and it opened my eyes to my life long struggles.
@@Reverse_Cat_Cowgirlno worries, it's not a rant, it helps
@@hellochildren3780 but fetishizing trans people is transphobic, one of the first thing she brought up is Brianna’s genitals that’s disgusting both of the killers were bigots and didn’t see her as a human being.
@@Cha4kPhobia can also mean "hate towards..." Transphobia is both the fear and hatred of trans people. There's no excuse for a murder.
im so glad this is on your channel! the two killers went to my school- culcheth, i used to call eddie ''jesus'' when i walked past him as a joke, he always used to laugh it off but now i realise how bad that was. i remember the next day in school my mum was really nervous about letting me go in because there was an investigation at my school although they had both been arrested. before their anonymity was taken, everyone in our area knew who it was, theres this thing called ''google classroom'' where all the students pictures are on, and their school email addresses, we were all getting their photos there (eddie and scarlett) but once the school caught on that we had their photos, they took them down. any posts, videos, tweets, ect, would all be taken down within the day due to their anonymity still up. it was odd because we all knew who they were, we had all spoken to scarlett and eddie, but the poor girl, brianna had been expelled from my school (culcheth) and had joined birchwood, a school very close to mine.
Really?? So the three of them were in your school?
@@farahsyifa9150 yes, but i wasnt in the school when brianna was there, she had got expelled before i joined.
why did brianna get expelled??
@@staymadluv5655 because she was involved in drugs
THANK YOU for covering this and shedding light as to how much of a sweet person she was. I’ve seen so many people cover this case and sum it up as “trans girl killed for being trans” and NEVER talk about the person she was. It’s so nice to hear how sweet she was.
The parents of those teens failed them 🙁
The father of one of the kids got arrested recently for s*x offences - I don't think the parents can help
I completely agree...I would have wanted to meet every Friend my kid has before they can go on their own with them..I'm sorry nowadays is extremely dangerous!
@@irenecorrea9149this has always been a dangerous realm
True
It always like that
Thank you for this video... I'm from the UK and I didn't expect everyone to hate the killers as much as they did. I was so glad people empathized and sided with Brianna. I work in home care and my patients are usually around age 80. Two women have already spoke about how upsetting they found this case.
That actually makes a lot of sense . The majority of middle schoolers and high schoolers want to be different and stand out so they are liked or even just noticed
@@Allyourbase1990 explains the whole gender obsessed trend ongoing too
Its not a trend @rigg4146
@@Crybatty that's literally the same thing goth kids said 20 years ago but ok
@rigg4146 goth too isnt a trend either its a music subculture and a movement there are still plenty of goth people and community, adults included. That aside, Music subculture is still different than someone's identity. You think you ate. Im an alternative adult im in my 20s. (My best friend is traditional goth n has been for 10 years we saw sisters of mercy together who are also still a goth band surrounded by community of all ages) Though im in a different subculture point still stands so looks like your point still falls flat lmao if facets of your life, identity, and community to you are superficial and just trends then thats ur life view but not everyone is like that and i suggest not to project that onto othersh
I absolutely was lost in tears when the picture of Brianna’s funeral was shown. The pink coffin and pink feathers on the white horses got me. It really shows how much she was loved, how much she was cared for, how well her parent(s) knew her. My heart is broken.
honestly so pissed off, what's obviously a hate crime, people make an excuse that its not a hate crime :(
I mean…. Crime …..hate…. Go hand in hand

It’s cause they white
I first found out about this case when a video popped out “how criminals reacted to their sentences”. This case popped up but they hid the faces. They do not deserve anonymity
I cried when Stephanie mentioned there first meeting being her funeral. This is such a sad case
As the parent of a trans teenage daughter, this story breaks my heart. The fact that the UK media added to the loss and trauma by misgendering and dead naming her is outrageous. What a senseless and tragic loss.
Right? It's the ultimate disrespect to the poor girl, it was horrible enough that somebody killed her, but to not respect her after she's gone is just an additional stab. Her poor mother and friends...
Congratulations
They did WHAT
@@theodorebarton4256right like wtf it’s not hard to do at all😕
That's because the UK has rapidly become an Anti-Trans country in the past few years. Much like the United States and Canada.
