Maybe this is the new "Notre Dame Rule" , lol. I think they should play a 13th game to make things even. I believe Hawaii and their opponents have the option to play a 13th game , so I don't see why Notre Dame couldn't do that.
If OU is ahead of Ohio St. after the rankings come out and OU beats Texas there is no way the comity has Ohio St. jump OU with a win over Northwestern. They want the TV ratings of Tua vs. Murray.

We can and/if all you want but the answer is it does not matter who gets in the fourth spot none of them can beat 1 or 2 and neither can number 3. Five right now might but that will work itself out this week.
As a Notre Dame fan, I had to deal with Desmond from College Game Day saying, "Upset Alert" on several teams we played against then said, Michigan should be ranked 3 even after we beat them heads up. What cracks me up the most is, if you beat a ranked team, now they are overrated. You can't win so just keeping winning 12-0 Notre Dame! PS: Michigan fans, stop saying if you played Notre Dame again, you would win.
LJ, yeah the concept of “over-rated” should rarely be applied after October. Teams get ranked for a reason, if you are 10-2 and a power team, chances are you are pretty good. Doesn’t mean you won’t lose.
The best offense BAMA has played is #20 Mizu and the same for UGA with Mizu. The important thing is how are you playing today (Saturday) and here is how that breaks down offensively. These are the numbers from the last 3 ranked teams these 2 teams have played, in offensive yards. I used ranked... just because, it's just a better read. BAMA = 1,405 yds UGA 1,389 yds Not much difference... 16 yards overall in fact, spread over 3 games. The break down- BAMA Passing-873 / Rushing-532 UGA Passing-566 / UGA Rushing-823 Meaning these 2 teams are closely matched overall at this point in the season, BAMA better at passing and UGA better at rushing. Interesting note... CLEM has not played but 2 ranked teams:) Ranked at the time they played.
Out of the two teams, Ohio State is the only team that has a chance to beat Alabama because of Urban Meyer and the athletic ability of the players. Also the last time Urban player Saban Urban Meyer won. Oklahoma has not played anybody of the caliber of Alabama and Clemson

What does a conference championship mean though? If you beat Pitt in the ACC... Northwestern in the BIG 10...or Utah or Washington in the PAC-12? Nothing really... Alabama or Georgia winning is a solid win and means a lot. But those two are probably in already anyway, or close to it. You can shove that last 13th data point where the sun don't shine because it doesn't matter. Christian Farkas, why bring up ACC and PAC12? No one is making that argument. Interesting you’d bring up Pitt though. Notre Dame REALLY struggled with them. You know who didn’t? Undefeated UCF. You also brought up Utah, who crushed USC. You know who didn’t? Notre Dame. Lastly, Notre Dames best Win was against Michigan. Ohio State just played the Wolverines. How’d that work out? Fortunately, the Irish have that 5 point win over Vandy and that 8 point win over Ball State. Personally, I think there should be no doubt that Notre Dame is in. They deserve to be in, going undefeated with a good (but not outrageously great) schedule. But they don’t pass the eye test. I hope they get Alabama in the first game. But even if they don’t, if they face Clemson, I expect they’ll get blown out there too. I think a lot of ND fans know this. Reminiscing about 2012. Certainly ND fans will be watching the conference championships. Hoping that Pitt and Northwestern pull off upsets. Sitting back and not having to play a 13th game? Nice for the Irish. Plus, they’ll be anxiously watching the ACC--if Clemson blows out Pitt, ND fans will realize ‘crud, we were down to Pitt late in the fourth’. And the BigTen. If Ohio State blows out Northwestern, the ND faithful will think ‘crud, we were only up 3 late in that game’. In reality, ND fans won’t think that, because by and large they are some of the least self aware fans in college football. But they should. Won’t matter. They’re in. They’ll get blown out. And the next time they are in this situation, the nation will have forgotten about it. And Georgia, fresh off a loss in a conference championship, will get left out, despite the fact they’d be 10 point favorites over the Irish. My thoughts: They need to go to 8. 5 P5 conference champs, 3 wildcards: 1 to the top G5 school (if ranked in top 10), and two others which can be other schools that didn’t win their conference and independents. Top 4 seeds get home field for quarterfinals. Neutral site for semis and NC. Edit: Conference championships matter to the teams and players, regardless of playoff implications. And they make for a 13th game, usually one with a strong opponent. So for teams on the cusp of the playoffs, they can make a difference, depending on the game, but it’s only one criteria. That’s why.

This is to all the commentary above...ND is in no matter what happens in these conference games. Conference games mean something only if they are a match up between top teams. Notre Dame avoids all that each year. Normally an 11-1 Notre Dame schedule would beat most in all of College football. This year they needed to be 12-0 to be a certainty...and that's what they did. We play Clemson next year in the regular season...and then Georgia the year after that. ND doesn't have to do that but we do to test our mettle and prove we are ND the independent crasher of the playoffs. I honestly would ask anyone do you think that ND in the coming years isn't trying to face the top competition? Exactly...now as for the dude who says Clemson will blow the doors of ND... come on...ND played Clemson two years ago with a much weaker lineup and they barely lost when it was at Clemson and in a monsoon. That year Clemson went to the Natty and lost by 5. ND can compete our history shows it. And to the dude who said ND fans aren't self aware...are you nuts? All this talk about who would get in 4th: y'all best not sleep on Pitt vs Clemson. Pitt has had a LOT of top ranked teams' numbers these last couple of years and derailed them toward the end of the season. UGA is coming for revenge and will be ready for Bama. This is exactly why the NCAA STILL hasn't gotten this correct. 4 teams picked by HUMAN FACTORS is STILL going along with the old BCS mentality. They need to take conference champs, Bracket them, and let them play to the championship. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY to play this fairly and without human factor in the selection. Just use those extra games like bowl games... That would also make the NCAA more money as more people would watch a bowl game with two teams that, one of which, will meet their team down the line for a championship. THINK, if you were a bama fan, wouild you really care at all about a game between something like Michigan and UCF? NO! However, same scenario, but playoff possibilities from either team, YES you would tune in (MORE MONEY FOR NCAA). They need to fix this or it will keep being biased.

As a sooners fan, we lost to Texas by 3 points. Ohio State was humbled by 5-4 Purdue and barely beat 3-6 Terrapins by just 1 point. Go Sooners. If we beat Texas then we should be in.

Win your conference your in. Seed the worst 3 conference champs against best 3 at large teams. Best 2 conference champs play against the 2 lowest seeded winners of round one. Bottom 2 of the 3 remaining teams play eachother to play the best remaining team. That way barring any upsets it would be 1-Bama 2-Clemson 3-Oklahoma 4-Ohio State 5-Washington 6-Notre Dame 7-Georgia 8-UCF If you're overrated you wont make it out of the first round, winning your conference actually counts for something, if you're a group of 5 team you get a fair shot at the big dogs. ND does not belong in the playoffs! This same overated hype was given to them in 2012 when they played Bama in the Championship, and Bama crushed them 42-14. and ND was ranked #1. Not to mention they don't even play a Conference Championship game. Any body that watched the first Texas vs OU game KNOWS that game was NOT close and that Herman GAVE 21 points away in the 4th quarter, by changing to a conservative offense and prevent defense. Texas was ahead 45-24 in the 4th. If Herman had just stuck to what he was doing the first 3 quarters, in the 4th quarter, Texas would have won that game 59-38. Herman knows what to do against OU's 1 man offense and no man defense...they will beat OU again.

Yeah , they need to get rid of the subjectivity in the process. Get rid of the rankings , no more journalists and coaches voting on whom they think on is the best team , just use conference ranks and use those to determine bowl placement. They should also separate the conferences and have a championship game for each ( maybe have a different playoff and championship game for the "Power 5" , "Group of 5" , etc. ).

OSU has beat Alabama before when everyone thought Alabama was the freaking greatest team ever, and OSU came in and wrecked them. Season after season it proves the COMMITTEE does not know how to rank teams and really only rank for ratings/viewership. Until there is a CFB playoff with at least 16 teams, I don't see these conversations ending. We might as well do a 24 team playoff with the top 25 or even 32 game playoff. IDC but we need a bigger playoff because as it is now, there is NO playoff and there are a group of 14 some guys and a girl picking teams based soley on who THEY think is better (or influenced by $$$$$$$$). Or the fact that there best win (WVU) is against a team that’s not even better than the 2 best win for Ohio st. (PSU). We have one loss against the number 2 team in the big 12 by a slim margin and we have a chance to avenge that. If we win we effectively erase our one blemish. tOSU lost to Purdue by 29 and went into OT against Maryland. Strength of schedule is in OUs favor as is overall efficiency. With all of that info wrapped into one OU is the most deserving. With all of that being said it isn’t about who is deserving but about who is *better*. What does a conference championship mean though? If you beat Pitt in the ACC... Northwestern in the BIG 10...or Utah or Washington in the PAC-12? Nothing really... Alabama or Georgia winning is a solid win and means a lot. But those two are probably in already anyway, or close to it. You can shove that last 13th data point where the sun don't shine because it doesn't matter. ND has the #1 SOR in the country right now...that speaks volumes about who they've played and how hard it is to go undefeated.

In reality, ND fans won’t think that, because by and large they are some of the least self aware fans in college football. But they should.
Won’t matter. They’re in. They’ll get blown out. And the next time they are in this situation, the nation will have forgotten about it. And Georgia, fresh off a loss in a conference championship, will get left out, despite the fact they’d be 10 point favorites over the Irish.
My thoughts: They need to go to 8. 5 P5 conference champs, 3 wildcards: 1 to the top G5 school (if ranked in top 10), and two others which can be other schools that didn’t win their conference and independents. Top 4 seeds get home field for quarterfinals. Neutral site for semis and NC.
Edit: Conference championships matter to the teams and players, regardless of playoff implications. And they make for a 13th game, usually one with a strong opponent. So for teams on the cusp of the playoffs, they can make a difference, depending on the game, but it’s only one criteria. That’s why.

This is to all the commentary above...ND is in no matter what happens in these conference games. Conference games mean something only if they are a match up between top teams. Notre Dame avoids all that each year. Normally an 11-1 Notre Dame schedule would beat most in all of College football. This year they needed to be 12-0 to be a certainty...and that's what they did. We play Clemson next year in the regular season...and then Georgia the year after that. ND doesn't have to do that but we do to test our mettle and prove we are ND the independent crasher of the playoffs. I honestly would ask anyone do you think that ND in the coming years isn't trying to face the top competition? This is exactly why the NCAA STILL hasn't gotten this correct. 4 teams picked by HUMAN FACTORS is STILL going along with the old BCS mentality. Just use those extra games like bowl games... Win your conference your in. Seed the worst 3 conference champs against best 3 at large teams. Best 2 conference champs play against the 2 lowest seeded winners of round one. Bottom 2 of the 3 remaining teams play eachother to play the best remaining team.

Any body that watched the first Texas vs OU game KNOWS that game was NOT close and that Herman GAVE 21 points away in the 4th quarter, by changing to a conservative offense and prevent defense. Texas was ahead 45-24 in the 4th. If Herman had just stuck to what he was doing the first 3 quarters, in the 4th quarter, Texas would have won that game 59-38. Herman knows what to do against OU's 1 man offense and no man defense...they will beat OU again.

Yeah , they need to get rid of the subjectivity in the process. Get rid of the rankings , no more journalists and coaches voting on whom they think on is the best team , just use conference ranks and use those to determine bowl placement. They should also separate the conferences and have a championship game for each ( maybe have a different playoff and championship game for the "Power 5" , "Group of 5" , etc. ).

OSU has beat Alabama before when everyone thought Alabama was the freaking greatest team ever, and OSU came in and wrecked them. Season after season it proves the COMMITTEE does not know how to rank teams and really only rank for ratings/viewership. Until there is a CFB playoff with at least 16 teams, I don't see these conversations ending. We might as well do a 24 team playoff with the top 25 or even 32 game playoff. IDC but we need a bigger playoff because as it is now, there is NO playoff and there are a group of 14 some guys and a girl picking teams based soley on who THEY think is better (or influenced by $$$$$$$$). As far as who is the most *deserving* team assuming both OU and tOSU win it’s definitely OU. We have one loss against the number 2 team in the big 12 by a slim margin and we have a chance to avenge that. If we win we effectively erase our one blemish. tOSU lost to Purdue by 29 and went into OT against Maryland. Strength of schedule is in OUs favor as is overall efficiency. With all of that info wrapped into one OU is the most deserving.
With all of that being said it isn’t about who is deserving but about who is *better*. I wish we’d quit arguing who is more deserving because tbh it just doesn’t matter. Both teams are great and either could go. It’s a 50-50 tossup imo and I’m an OU fan. It really just depends who shows up more in their conference championship game tbh.
