Haven't played the games yet, but I've seen plenty of theories suggesting that the paradox Pokemon aren't actually real pokemon, but something closer to Entei in the 3rd movie, which is interesting in and of itself, but could also explain why they look/function the way they do.
From what I've seen so far, I like a lot of the newer pokemon. It's especially refreshing because during the pre-release, I disliked the vast majority of the pokemon that were shown, including the bikes. Only ones I actually liked were Ceruledge, Armourouge, and the cat. I've since warmed up to the bikes and the other starters. Quaxey's evo is cool and Skeledirge is awesome, but Meowscarada is my favorite. Partly because I just really like its design, but also because of all the people who wouldn't shut up about staying four legs. In the end, it became the biggest coomerbait since Gardevoir
I like the idea of convergent pokemon, but the execution is lame since they're basically just regional variants. They should've had the evolved forms be something completely different.

I love how many new Pokémon were made to have moving 3d models.
Something like a Glimmora looks jarring in sprite but comes to like as you see them feeding in the walls of caves. The "future" paradoxes take this to the extreme, with many dislodgeable parts. Though my favorite is Koraidon's wings torched into it's antenne looking braids

I was so happy to see the notification for this video!
About the convergent Pokemon, the Digglet and Tentacool parallels, at first I didn't like them not to be related to the original Kantonian families. But as an ecologist myself, I must admit that is something you find in the real world because of convergent evolution. Take as an example the Cacti and Euphorbias plants, and the case of the Porcupines (which are two unrelated families of rodents that look very similar). So it's always cool when GameFreak tries to include real biological phenomena in the Pokemon world.
PS: when I first saw the samba Pokemon dancing I was amazed because this is one of the few Pokemon based in my home country lol (alongside Toucannon from gen7, Hitmontop from gen2, and maybe Flamigo from gen9)

yo! just to clear up confusion on convergent evolution - the difference is that the source animal is a completely different type of organism! for example, while Paldean Wooper is based on the iberian ribbed newt, which is taxonomically similar to the giant salamander normal Wooper is based on, Wiglett is based on a garden eel, which is totally unrelated to moles and therefore to Diglett. in real life, convergent evolution describes two unrelated animals who evolved to look or behave similarly independently of one another, which is exactly how pokemon treats it too!

I do understand this, however this is a universe where a fish can become an octopus when it evolves. If the same individual can become completely different species as it ages, I think these kinds of distinctions aren’t as important in Pokémon.

One thing I noticed about gen 9 is how many vehicle-based pokémon there are. From the box art legends to the varoom line and orthworm, shoot, I've heard someone compare dudunsparce to one of those carnival rides made to look like a dragon. I totally see it. I've heard it suggested that it looks as if the Pokémon Company was preparing to make a theme park.
Honestly, I really like gen 9's roster, I'm largely drawn to fun designs, and gen 9 had some real doozies.

1:37 i'd argue it's been just as strong as gen 7 onwards it just that the bar was higher this time (spain has massive regional variety)

also the convergent evolution pokemon cant be regional forms, because there it would make zero sense for those mons to evolve in that way, impossible even. They were probably pitched as a regional form and then realised it wouldnt work out but liked the idea anyways.

Pretty happy to see more of this.
Also something I've been thinking about it, I can see the natural corse of Pokemon evolution lending itself to pokemon being less brutal for the past pokemon. But I understand the future pokemon are all like... giant robot references and a call to hokey scifi movies but I think this gives me the implication of these pokemon have maybe been modifed.
or perhaps there is something meta about the nature of Pokemon that is just somehow linked to the human imagination. cause it makes sense of past pokemon to be bigger and meaner looking, past animals look bigger and meaner, but future animals probably arnt going to be robots.....
Sleaker, yeah sure. If you wanna stretch it you can argue maybe we are seeing the early phases of pokemon getting in canon biologically smoother over time but not.... metallic.
Maybe more.... little green men would be a better place to go with this since the actual alien Pokemon tried to stay away from it.
