I love Helmet.Aftertaste is still my favorite . An underrated record that slowly crawls in my top10 records of all time.Saw them live last year and they still give me serious neck pain.
Agreed! Aftertaste is my fav Helmet album too. Kind of falls below the radar next to Meantime and Betty, but I love the production and consistency of the tracks. Still have to check out the new album though. Sounds great so far.

I love all Hemet, but I think Aftertaste is probably my favorite as well.
I used to not like aftertaste but sound amazing compared to new helmet. His vocals suck now, old vox were simple and fit.
@@Dirty-Double-D- He's definitely trying something different now. Similar to Size Matters, which has some seriously dope tracks. I've got nothing but love for this band. If someone ever asked me what band's music I could bring to a deserted island, it would be Helmet. So much to be interested in.

I like this new song and am excited about the new album and where it will take us long-time Helmet fans to in their stylistic musical evolution. But the album I always return to is ‘Betty’…that era and lineup was just the best and it stands as a moment in time I will never forget when I first discovered Helmet and that album. I can still remember listening to it back in ‘94 and going “Whoa”, this is just incredible. I used to love the checkered tartan shorts Page used to wear on stage too as they were all the fashion rage back then and had plenty of pairs myself lol 😎🤘🏽
Betty was an amazing album. So innovative and unique heavy music much like Mastodon and Tool. I really enjoy Aftertaste too because its just such a brutal album with a very focused sound. Even Monochrome was interesting with some really unique tracks. After that though their material has really declined a bit.
Meantime and Betty are my two favorite albums of theirs. Sadly I tuned out after Aftertaste as I did not like that album as much, might have to return to it.

Different than anything I could've expected, but a welcome surprise. Love the chord progressions and the Gang of Four feel on some parts of it.
About time we had another Helmet album. Wasn't a huge fan of the last but I like this allot

Nice to hear Page being a little bit more explicit with his politics. Page has always approached the subject matter of his lyrics with sarcasm, facetiousness, and over the top charicatures, though often cryptic enough to make you wonder if he’s simply remarking on the nature of humanity or taking a stance.

I’m liking it much more after a few more listens. Sounded weak and anemic in my office and car, but absolutely slams on the home sound system. 🤷♂️

@EMENHD That’s more of a function of the person than the quality of the song, in that if a person has difficulty “getting” the song until after several listens, that’s a function of a person’s listening biases being challenged by new musical language. It’s a good thing to be mindful of when encountering anything that sounds “odd” or “off” at first listen. Songs aren’t really “good” or “bad” by personal standards. It’s what you appreciate. I like this song. But a song can be “good” in many ways and you can appreciate all those aspects and still not think it’s good.
But Page always brings it!

Production doesn’t suit the bands sound. Wish I could hear this with a more raw live sound.
So is the title of the new album supposed to be in reference of what remains of this once great band. I say that because for HELMET this is really subpar to meh at best. Sounds so generic compared to even material that I thought was bad like Dead To The World and Seeing Eye Dog. I guess the positive is they have many great albums of good material still.

@@Dingledangle1983 I will say this Seeing Eye Dog 👁️ 🐕 is going to age very well now. And even though I didn't love Dead To The World like the many other awesome albums they put out it did still have a few decent tracks. Who knows this new album might too if it has tracks that get away from this weak and generic sound that is also on the nose.
I love helmet they have drive for sure , but I like their blend of fu@ckery with their precision just more of the free form style. It does feel like they were pressured to have a very refined highly produced sound to get a record deal that's my opinion but this may be what they were going for. Still I like some others do enjoy Betty as well as Meantime and feel that is their true bread and butter. Most musicians loathe being boxed into a style or forced to remain as music tends to favor creative expression and I get that but it seems all musicians despise even the remotest idea of maintaining a sound especially if they had great success, only to find most of the crowds cheering to their hit songs. To me styling oneself to what sound got them noticed isn't selling out but most musicians seem to find it cheesy to even retouch any thing that came before. As a non musical talent I guess I've not experienced the demands that come with that territory so I'll leave this note as someone partly puzzled by artists need to deviate "wildly" from their original style. I guess I too wouldn't paint each painting the same (metaphorically speaking).

Hamilton also discussed "Gun Fluf", saying: "I feel I have a right to express myself. I'm happy to sit down and have a conversation with any gun owner. I own guns. I grew up owning guns. I grew up in southern Oregon. I got a 12-gauge shotgun when I turned 12 from Grandpa Bones, and I hunted. I'm all for it, but I'm not all for there not being tighter restrictions on who can purchase a gun.
"Automatic weapons are unnecessary for a citizen population," he explained. "They're not for hunting; they're not for recreation. They are for killing human beings.
"Every time there's another mass murderer shooting, it affects me deeply. That's just heartbreaking. What we are saying is, yes, we have the right to bear arms, but we also have children who have a right to go to school and not fear for their lives, or go grocery shopping - as in Buffalo - and not worry that somebody's going to come in with an automatic weapon that can shoot 200 rounds in however many minutes. So that song poured out of me. It makes me angry that people are not more responsible."

Just sounds like a filler track on a mid 90s grunge album. No excuse on age deftones have been active since early 90s and still releasing incredible albums.
My first thoughts as someone who's been a fan since "strap it on" ..just meh. Boring both musically and lyrically and I don't need another old band from my youth preaching their politics to me.

Yeah I just can't get into this. I don't like his vocals. Everything else is cool but I just think is vocals are bad now. I appreciate him and for everything he's done. I just don't like this direction. It's not for me but I wish them all the best
I think Page’s voice gets better with age honestly. He sounds better now than he did 30 years ago.

Yep, the music is definitely cool, but the vocals and lyrics make it impossible for me to blast this in my car with the windows down.
Kyle is a fantastic drummer and can do all of Stainer’s parts flawlessly.
