I like how the episode shows that Bart and Lisa have both inadvertently trained each other to be their greatest adversary. Throuhout the futures as well, Bart nearly sinks her presidency and then outdoes her in world diplomacy. They both know each other so well from shared experiences at both cross and same purposes, so they know each other's weakness, as well as how to either exploit them, or shore them up, because this also makes them excellent teammates. They mirror a trend seen in Married With Children where the Bundys would hate each other and fight, right up until some outside force threatened or shamed the family as a group. Then all internal differences were dropped, and a unified front was adopted, and I think that sums up the United States pretty well at the time, too. As for the popularity of hockey, I live in St Louis where hockey is our second most popular sport after baseball and we love it, and we're glad to be rid of that old football team, anyway. Because it was haunted.

Yeah I can kinda see that. the parallels between The Simpsons and Married With Children have become more and more noticeable as i've gotten older

The way that lisa/bart fight starts with the arm swinging and kicking "its your own fault if you don't get out of the way!!" is such absolutely classic sibling violence, one of the great simpsons episodes with a lot of timeless gags.

I always wanted to play hockey, but I’m from Miami. Finding hockey here is really hard to come by, or it least you really had to search for it. It’s not like Baseball and Basketball where they pretty much fall out of the sky. I also roller bladed. It’s hard on legs, specially the ankles.
About permanently ruining your childhood toy on a whim: I had a Woody doll where the limbs are held together by white thread you had to wind up in order to keep the doll in place while standing. I had it in the late-90s and loved playing with it. I had scissors one day and on a whim I decided to cut thread that head in place. To this day I don’t understand why I did it. I loved that doll. I felt like Andy with that doll. Lol. I tried fixing the doll but the thread was too short and tried playing with it for a little while after the fact, but eventually it was useless. When I did the deed, I stared at the doll for almost half an hour thinking, “ what have I done”. The impulsivity control with kids is fairly shit at times. Oh well.
    Cool vid as always.

I think the destruction of a toy like that is a combination of curiosity, not understanding the consequences of actions and general poor impulse control
Oh god I can’t imagine trying to get into hockey while living somewhere that isn’t a hockey town 😭
