There was this new rental car company I tried out in Los Angeles LAX, and the car return attendant tried to charge me $89 for refilling my "empty gas tank"; but luckily I'd taken a full video of my car along with showing the full gas tank view and submitted that to customer service, and they didn't charge me.

    This is misleading. Sooooooo ...
    1) You have to have the right credit card, specifically one that has primary coverage. Most cards that offer coverage only offer secondary which comes after anything that is not covered by your insurance.
    2) Call your insurance rep. Unless you have insurance for your personal vehicle and not just liability you most likely won't be covered. Or in situations where you own a corolla and are renting a minivan or suv, your insurance might only cover up to the same comparable vehicle you have.
In addition he does not mention Loss of Use which insurance rarely covers. Loss of use is basically the daily charge that the rental company adds for every day the vehicle is in the repair shop.
    Read the fine print....

I’ve seen about 10-15 customers over the years that have been royally screwed by thinking their credit card covers them on a rental car. Turns out actually getting them to cover it vs saying they will is a huge difference. Anywhere from 80-95 percent of the claims filed to credit card company’s are denied due to the fact that they will find a way to say you broke the contract(for example if at all you drove on a gravel road, could even be construction on a major highway and they would void the coverage) best advice actually find out what they do cover and what they don’t cover. Just bc a commercial says your good doesn’t mean it’s always true.

If you take cdw and there’s damage they won’t go after your insurance company so your insurance rates won’t go up for a claim . Also in many cases the credit card company won’t make a decision on payment till they have someone inspect the vehicle . So in the mean time you are getting the rack rate added to potential total . Many CC try to deny the claim . Courts tend to agree with documented details . At most airports there’s tons of cameras that are videoing the car before you leave the facility and there’s even cameras recording your return to facility.

Roadside Assistance covers your basic needs and covers if you lose the keys. Supplemental Liability covers if you hit someone or their property up to $300,000 in damages and even death possibly. Personal Effects Coverage covers if someone breaks into the vehicle and steals your personal belongings when you’re in or away from the rental. We don’t scam you. Not good advice. Primary goes to your insurance and card acts as a secondary but it’s not end all be all. Still have to file a claim, premiums still likely go up and any kind of towing charging 99% of the time would not be covered. Not to mention that insurance policies and credit card can vary greatly, so exactly what’s covered and what type of vehicle you were driving could lead to minimal help from insurance. Always take the rental insurance if you can afford it but stick with your own liability and other stuff

Car rental companies want to make money and the latest trick I’ve seen is where they ask to see your declaration page (electronic or paper, whatever floats your boat). Of course the average person doesn’t have it nor are they able to find it online so they’re essentially “forced” to pay out of pocket for additional insurance they already have. Safe travels y’all!

So if you get into an accident that’s your fault or someone hits you that’s not fully insured, you aren’t getting reimbursed plus you insurance policy goes up either way when you get into an accident whether you are at fault or not. Credit cards don’t reimburse you for you monthly policy going up for 6 months. In the long run, you are still paying more when you could just pay the protections at the rental car place. @@odell2970depends on what car you rent and where you are, apparently. Especially Spain (Balearic Islands, Canaries) seems to be quite expensive, likely due to stuff happening all the time there.

I have my personal insurance setup to be able to drive any car, regardless of who owns it, with full collision, maxed out for everything else including uninsured driver, passenger, property, etc and I have a $100 deductible. Covers me in a car worth up to $150k.
My wife and I together are $130 a month lol
I do have some rental insurance on the credit card I rent with too, but I don’t rely on it. It’s a back up.

  • @renamanvelova5200
    @renamanvelova5200 2 місяці тому

Ya but your personal car insurance has a deductible of either 500 to a thousand per claim. But since you think your smart paying 500 for a something that only costs a hundred and something to fix but your contract either way they win . But since you think it is so much smarter to go thru your insurance do it I’m sure it won’t go up .

And always check your contract after you leave the facility. Some car rental reps are assholes and will still add their insurance without you noticing it and you will have a hard time trying to get a refund.

Definitely not how it works credit card company will not cover anything your insurance doesn’t and let alone reimbursement for a claim already paid out by an insurance company, also what you missed out was the time hassle that process takes your better off purchasing the the damage waiver besides who wants a rental claim on their license for 7 years not this guy

  • @tylergoldstein1792

Car insurance doesn’t cover rental cars lol. The rental car coverage you pay for on your policy is if you’re in an accident and you need a rental because of said accident.
99% of credit card coverage only goes into effect after you’ve expended your liability of your auto insurance policy.

If you’re 18 you can’t rent a car, you have to be 21years of age or older. What a dumb ass law. Florida speaking here..I’m in collision and you would be shocked how many times I’ve seen 18-20 yr olds not being able to get a rental even though the insurance company takes their money every month for coverage for a rental car in case of a collision. Such bs man…I’ve seen young adults who aren’t 21 yet who have no family in the area simply stuck! Had to Uber everywhere even though they paid for that exact coverage.
