I actually still have mine, hardly used, so basically still pretty much a new motor. I had bought it in mid 1992, and fitted it to my Tamiya King Cab with a smaller pinion gear (cannot remember how many teeth). It was brutal on my King Cab, but when I say brutal, it was breaking things! I literally ran it for one or two battery pack sessions, and was in awe with the increase performance, but the fun came to an end with a grinding gearbox. The plastic idler gear bracket in the King Cab's gearbox had snapped one of its mounting legs off. So to fix this, I had actually fabricated a replacement part made of copper (of all things) to replace this idler bracket (which never failed). The last time I ran the King Cab was at an informal race, and again, the brutal nature of this motor revealed itself (or how fragile the King Cab could be). This time it managed to completely destroy one of the wheel hubs - it literally sheered off all the splines inside the hub! So after that, the engine was removed, cleaned again, and simply packed back in its box. It would've been better suited for a buggy like you are using here...

Ye took ma words Glenn. The motor transitions smooth. The smaller pinion wid pit the motor in the sweet spot ae the power band. Rest in peace tyres. LOL

I have a Tamiya Dynatech 02H with the optional 10-turn rotor running in my DF-03Ra chassis that I lowered for on-road use and fitted with a modified 2-speed transmission from an old HPI RS4. www.rctech.net/forum/chat-lounge/989695-build-complete-tamiya-df-03ra-2-speed.html It's a nutjob setup, but it's a lot of fun. I used to have an 01R in that car, with a non-Tamiya 11-turn rotor installed, and it was equally nuts, but it was a hell of a job keeping the 01R's brushes from sparking like crazy and destroying the commutator. I ended up wedging a couple bits of silicone fuel tubing into the leaf-springs that hold the 01R's brushes in-place, to effectively increase the spring-rate of the brush springs, and that helped a lot, but ultimately I decided the 02H was a better-designed motor to begin with.

Wow that pretty cool Shawn, there’s a video on here I did using the 02H with the optional 10t rotor 🤩. Ran it in the Top Force and it was pretty sweet 🚗💨💨

Great video thanks. Im just restoring my old Tamiya Falcon (my first R/C car I bought 30 odd years ago!) I also had the Dynatech 02H motor fitted and I recall having a lot of issues with current draw and getting really hot, it actually melted the leads off the motor! Any ideas what could have been the issue? Im replacing the old manual speed control with an ESC and will just run an 1800mA NiMH battery. Thanks

Yeah I’m not sure what causes that 🤷🏼‍♂️. I guess the condition of the brushes and comm play a big part. But what a great motor 🤩
I’ve done a couple of running videos with it in the Top Force, I even did a video with it using the 10 turn hop up rotor 🤩🚗💨💨💨

Why don't you use the 8.4v pack also? Just so we can see the difference.

Ah..yes. Brushed motors and the ‘pinion-dance’ 1, or 2 teeth could make the difference between ‘no guts whatsoever’ and ‘screaming around the track’. Or ‘went really fast... but didn’t finish due to drained battery. Made really worse because the limited power of the nicads of the day. 1700 mah at best. Nowadays, with a 4000mah LiPo, all bets are off. ( within reason, heat being the next problem) I still got my old one lying around. Brushes almost worn, and yet, it still goes like stink on a hot day on lipo.
Shelved it, tho. Far too afraid to completely wear the brushes. I haven’t been able to get new sets for reasonable prices. So. Yeah. It’s just sitting pretty in my man-cave.. :p

Put the 10 turn rotor in this motor and run it on a lipo and it will absolutely scream, rival some brushless motors!! I have this setup in my vintage fox.
Wasn't this tamiya's flagship motor? With the Pink Actopower.

@@TAMIYALegends Just a question, I've gone to adjust the timing on my pink actopower, its one of the ones with a label on the can just plain pink so I lost gauge of how far to turn the end bell. I dont know if the motor was sparking before when the brushes were touching the rotor but they are now.
Is this a common thing? Anyway of stopping it if possible?😐

The best way is to do it on the bench out of the car, you can hear when it’s in the sweet spot 🤓
I think they do ark abit more once the timing is turned up, nothing to worry about 👊🏻
